THIN LIZZY Live From Germany 1973 LP
Nine tracks recorded for German TV in 1973 give a fascinating insight onto how Thin Lizzy would develop into one of the world's biggest rock'n'roll bands. This three-piece line-up emphasized their roots in blues and folk, illustrated by two versions of hit single "Whiskey In the Jar." Four of the tracks included here were not included in the studio LPs that the band released at this time. Recording quality is very good. The LP comes with full credits and extensive sleevenotes.

RENDELL-IAN CARR QUINTET, DON BBC Jazz Club Session April 1965 LP
At its heart the Rendell/Carr Quintet had one of the leading British jazz musicians of the post-war era -- saxophonist Rendell -- whose CV included work with American big hitters such as Woody Herman and Stan Kenton. Around him he had gathered four younger, more adventurous jazzmen, all wishing to push the envelope of the music. This session captures a moment that, without any hint of sleeve note hyperbole, can rightly be called historic. That moment is the April 19th 1965 debut within the Rendell/Carr ranks of pianist Michael Garrick, a musician who was -- again with no little sense of overstatement -- to quite literally change the course of the group's direction, and it can be argued with some conviction, that of the wider sound of British jazz. The overall fidelity on this recording is excellent and pressed on 180gram vinyl.

TOM VR Acheless 12"
Following two acclaimed European and Asian tours, UK producer Tom VR returns to All My Thoughts with a special vinyl release of his latest single, "Acheless." The vinyl features the original tracks "Acheless" and "Couldn't Find the Words," plus a brand new VIP edit exclusive to the format. This edit showcases Tom VR's signature sound: a tapestry of textured electronica that's both driving and dark, yet punctuated by flourishes of vibrant color. While the original "Acheless" unfolds melodies within its framework, the VIP edit takes a different approach. Here, the focus shifts to the pulsing rhythm section, with the signature plucky melodies subtly restrained. For fans of: Four Tet, Daphni, Barker, Ross From Friends, Cameo Blush.

EDMONDSON Vanarama Bar 12"
Newcastle-born artist Edmondson has solidified his position as a fan favorite within the DJ community, earning praise from influential names like Ben UFO, Bicep, and Moxie over the past decade. With an impressive back catalog featuring releases on Hypercolour, Me Me Me, and his own imprint Lissoms, Edmondson now steps into the spotlight once again with a four-track EP slated for release on Seb Wildblood's label, All My Thoughts. The sound of the Vanarama Bar EP is rooted in the post-industrial North, but more so an escapism from it. The name is a tongue-in-cheek pun juxtaposing the dizzy heights of Panorama Bar with the official sponsor of England's fifth tier of football, a fittingly greyscale representation of the kind of "old man and dog" culture which some people associate with the area. On a slightly deeper level the name speaks to a feeling of distance and disenfranchisement up North, and the disconnect between it and the more celebrated cultural hubs. For fans of: Four Tet, Hnny, DJ Seinfeld, Youandewan, Lone.

NOMEANSNO Wrong LP
LP version. "At last, one of the all-time bat legends, Nomeansno has returned to Alternative Tentacles Records. The entire catalog no less, starting with their most beloved album, Wrong. Using the original all-analog master, from the original mother, as engineered by George Horn, John Wright, and Jello Biafra. Nomeansno formed in a vacuum, in Victoria, British Columbia in 1979 and honing their sounds for years before relocating to Vancouver and releasing eleven albums over an almost forty-year career, including a collaborative album with Jello Biafra, and numerous EPs and singles. Originally formed as a two-piece by brothers John and Rob Wright, and later joined by monster guitarist, Andy Kerr. Mixing hardcore punk, dark lyrics, and sophisticated arrangements boarding on prog, Nomeansno was massively influential and widely regarded as the first band to be referred to as 'math rock.' Originally released on Alternative Tentacles in 1989, Wrong stands on its own and is still considered to be a much-loved classic. Allmusic called the album a masterpiece and a definitive jazz core album. In 2021, the album was voted by the publics' to win the Canadian Polaris Heritage Prize to honor classic Canadian albums released before the creation of the award. In 2015, drummer John Wright described the album as their 'most popular album by a country mile' and to the St. Louis Music Press of Wrong's success to the rise of alternative music and the success of Nirvana: 'That's where all the buzz about us came from. We were touring throughout the States in the mid-'80s, and we'd get a little bit of an audience here and there, but after a couple of years in Europe, we started doing some big shows there, and all of a sudden, people in the States were coming out to our shows. And we went from getting paid $200 to getting paid $1000. It was just like that. You had to have the buzz, and then it all just kind of blew up.' WELLMAN, IAN The Night The Stars Fell CD
Written and performed by Ian Wellman. The Night the Stars Fell is a journey that begins in a fire-scarred forest. The fourth album by Ian Wellman, and his Ash International debut, The Night the Stars Fell is built from field recordings from the forests and deserts of Southern California, shortwave radio static, and cassette tape loops layered in distortion. The eleven tracks across the album are carried by the physicality of wind which drove the fires that burned the forests where the sounds were recorded. The Night the Stars Fell explores a time of rebuilding, of searching for a new path. Ian Wellman is a sound artist currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. His recordings have been published by Room40, Dragon's Eye Recordings, Luminous Drift, and Industrial Coast. Ian is an IATSE Y-1 journeyman, and a member of the LA-based sound collective VOLUME. Recorded, composed, and mixed in Los Angeles between 2021-2023. Field recordings recorded in the forests and deserts of Southern California.

K-LONE Catching Wild Pt. 1 12"
Wisdom Teeth co-founder K-Lone is dropping two EPs on Aus Music: the first instalment nods to UKG and house flavors, while the second offers a deeper, broken techno vibe. "Give It Up" opens Part 1 with a bubbly rhythm and bassline that percolates through the woody, organic percussion. Lush pads and neon lines swirl skyward to silky and seductive effect as various other samples and daubs of color bring the groove to life. The heady "Wait 4 U" is a textbook K-Lone house cut with low swinging bass, sultry sax stabs and molten R&B samples that get the juices going next to warm, diffused synth lines. On the flip, "What I Want" ups the pace but keeps it deep and smooth with rubbery kicks and gooey bass overlaid with soft-edged chord stabs that will pump the floor. Lastly, "Own Way" closes down with a tumbling bassline that takes you deeper as muted vocal sounds and glowing chords hook you into an infectious groove suited to the most intimate dancefloors. UK trailblazer K-Lone heads up the label Wisdom Teeth with fellow producer Facta and has released everything from club-primed garage to innovative home listening records. Whether cooking up kinetic beats and bouncy bass or soundtracking a lazy summer's afternoon with synthesized bird calls and lush marimbas, the London-bred artist is a proven studio wizard. Critical acclaim has come for both his Swells and Cape Cira albums, and now his Catching Wild EPs for Aus Music offer yet another portal into the colorful world of his idiosyncratic, signature sound.

LES DYNAMITES Uzi Kinrot/Sea Gull 7"
Les Dynamites make a jubilant return to Batov Records' Middle Eastern Grooves series of vinyl 45s with two irresistible instrumentals capturing the spirit of the Mediterranean surf rock renaissance, "Uzi Kinrot" and "Sea Gull." Comprising accomplished musicians Roy Bar-Tour, Atzmon Avrahami, and Adam Yodfat, Les Dynamites built themselves a strong following for their fresh blend of Mediterranean and classic surf rock with Balkan and Yemini folk, catching the attention of Middle Eastern groove connoisseurs Batov Records. Their debut single for the label, "Pop Oud #2," packed enough punch, and funk, for both psych fans and break dancers. Backed by a dubwise flip by digging pioneers Radio Trip, it received support from the likes of Juno, Monolith Cocktail and Worldwide FM. "Uzi Kinrot" takes its name from guitarists Uri Kinrot and Uzi Feinerman of Boom Pam, pioneers of today's resurgence in Middle Eastern surf rock. Ray Bar-Tour riffs like a Klezmer-playing Dick Dale over a Balkan sousaphone bass lines and snappy drum rhythms. Towards the end, Yemen Yehudith adds a special touch of traditional wailing, raising the excitement by another notch. On "Sea Gull", Les Dynamites pay tribute to Greek-Israeli guitarist and singer, Aris San, credited for being among the first to play the electric guitar like the six-stringed Greek bouzouki, and spreading the popularity of Greek and Mizrahi music. San's joyful and infectious style is bulked out by some Ventures-style grit, rock drumming and the Vox Jaguar, sixties style hammond, ready to uplift any hot and liquor-soaked dancefloor. Recorded in single takes with minimal overdubs, "Sea Gull" packs a powerful punch, avoiding the pitfalls of overthinking and multi-track re-recording. Recorded, co-arranged, produced, mixed and mastered by Uri "MixMonster" Wertheim of famed funk band The Apples, and obscure sample scientists, RadioTrip.

HIRT, AL Soul In The Horn LP
Al Hirt's infamous Soul In The Horn is inextricably tangled up in crate-digger lore. Originally released in 1967, the album has been in heavy, heavy demand for over 30 years, entirely down to the majestic soul-jazz fire of "Harlem Hendoo." And it's a song so good, so vital, so timeless, that it will always tower above everything else in its proximity. However, it would be an error to dismiss this record as merely a one tracker, loaded as it is with dope samples for adventurous beat makers. Certainly the funkiest Al Hirt record, it definitely lives up to the "soul" in the title. Thanks to composer Paul Griffin and arranger Teacho Wiltshire, Hirt got uncharacteristically free and groovy throughout. Soul In The Horn represented an expressive detour into authentic soul-jazz for Al Hirt. Throughout is a fiery energy that's otherwise absent from his typically easy listening work. Without question, the slinky, magical "Harlem Hendoo" is the standout, here. It's also the reason why the record is so scarce and commands awe among crate diggers, sounding like something from an obscure and deeply revered spiritual jazz record. As is often the case, the true genius of the song is tricky to do justice to; it's like a minor miracle of songwriting and performance that simply swooned down from the heavens on the back of horns, bells and harpsichord. It's one of the sweetest musical compositions ever recorded inside a studio. Sampled brilliantly by De La Soul, it has also been used by The Roots for "Stay Cool" and Nightmares On Wax for "Damn." An album deserving of a place in every serious record collection. The audio for Soul In The Horn has been carefully remastered by Be With regular Simon Francis, ensuring it sounds better than ever. Cicely Balston's expert skills have made sure nothing is lost in the cut whilst the records have been pressed to the highest possible standard at Record Industry in Holland. The original sleeve has been restored at Be With HQ as the finishing touch to this long overdue re-issue. This is after-hours music. Let it speak for itself. Listen. Listen to the soul in Al Hirt's horn.

STILL HOUSE PLANTS If I don't make it, I love u CD
If I don't make it, I love u is Still House Plants third album and the fullest embodiment of their sound to date. Where Fast Edit formed with quick attachment and jump cuts, If I don't make it is shaped by persistence -- a commitment to the songs that makes the music solid, warmer and accepted. Marking the trio's decade of friendship, this is the first record written whilst all live in the same city since 2017's Assemblages. The band rehearsed it relentlessly, playing for nobody except themselves, consistently building support for one another and growing the way they play. Jess's voice is deeper. Fin's guitar is full size, richer. David drums harder. Focused on one point together, everyone gets bigger and nothing falls apart. The guitar and the drums blend, raise the voice, make room for what is being said, what is felt. When able to finally record, production allowed layers, gave elasticity, a chance to fully stretch. Playing with length and connections, the band brought in analog techniques -- a Leslie cabinet on "Headlight", sidechaining the snare with the guitar, pushing vocals through cheap DJ software -- each process an attempt to bring one instrument closer to another, to give bass, body, backup. If I don't make it, I love u seeks beauty, holds feeling maximum and builds surety with its sound. The most generous SHP record to date, the music is wide open, demands less. Play it again, it will come clear.

VA WIZZZ! French Psychorama 1967-1970 Volume 3 LP
2024 restock; LP version. Includes six-page booklet. One, two, three... hold your breath for 40 minutes for a peregrination through a special kind of pop music "made in France" between 1967 and 1970, a mix of ribaldry, flashes of brilliance, and adventurous twists on familiar sounds. We will plunge into French-style pop, unapologetic and defiant; blue-white-and-red pop that does not take itself seriously, not out of line with its "y?-y?" contemporaries, who were themselves uninspired by the boring, commercial teenage music that dominated in France at that time. It is pop music fueled by creativity -- though not always well-focused -- with peculiar arrangements, inspired compositions, and precarious production... but oh so tasty! WIZZZ 3 spotlights French artists who dared to try, to experiment... Includes tracks by Dansez avec Moa, Bernard Chabert, Joanna, Pierre Paul Jacques, Evariste, Jean-Bernard de Libreville, Crischa, Long Chris, Nato, Papy, Fatty Nautty, Balthazar, Jane et Julie, Bruno Leys, and Marcel Artero.

VA Disque La Raye: 60's French West-Indies Boo-Boo-Galoo LP
2024 repress; LP version. Printed inner sleeve. In 1966, a new pulse spread like wildfire on the sidewalks of Spanish Harlem and local radio waves. Like no music genre ever before, boogaloo brought together African Americans and Latinos. As the ultimate musical syncretism of popular genres in the Barrio, boogaloo is often described as "the first Nuyorican music". A revolutionary hurricane was then blowing on Amerika: in the trail of the Black Panthers and the Young Lords Organization, minorities were gathering in the streets to reclaim their rights from the establishment. Boogaloo was the soundtrack of a social revolution overtaking the country, before it got overshadowed by salsa. Boogaloo's energy seduced young people from different backgrounds, well beyond the borders of the USA, and especially in the Caribbean cradle land. From Fort-de-France to Pointe-?-Pitre, old biguines and mazurkas from West Indian orchestras strong of a bloodline of virtuosos, from father-to-son, became outdated by those modern beats. On Fred Aucagos's "Ti Man'zelle", there's a subtle mix of imports from the mainland, the USA, and the neighboring islands. Musicians dabbled with boogaloo, coming up with rather unorthodox interpretations. This is precisely what gives this compilation its singularity. It incorporates influences from the African continent thanks to the Rico Jazz (an adaptation of "Si Tu Bois Beaucoup" of the Congolese rumba orchestra O.K. Jazz). It rubs elbows with the "Jerk Vid?" of a David Martial before he turned in a doudouiste clich?. With the cheeky humor of the Guyanese Dany Play ("Mais Tu Sais"), the perkiness of Joby Valente ("Disk La Ray?" with Camille Soprann on sax), the listener (re)discovers classics published on two historic Guadeloupean labels: Aux Ondes of producer Raymond C?lini, and Disque Debs, whose boss Henri Debs can be heard on "Ou Pas Z'ami En Moins". "Ou Qu? Di Moin" from Monsieur X is a Creole funk pamphlet, neither Latin, nor festive, and not strictly boogaloo for that matter. The Nuyorican rhythm is a tiny fraction of what the West Indies orchestras were playing, as they often incorporated biguine and Haitian kopi elements. Assisted by Jean-Baptiste Guillot, Julien Achard spent over three years compiling this best of the Creole boogaloo. Also features: Maurice Alcindor, Gabby Siarras, Les Bois Sirop, Le Ry-Co Jazz, and Les Vickings. LP version comes with a printed inner sleeve with liner notes in English and French.

VA Moris Zekler: Fuzz & Soul Sega from 70's Mauritius LP
2024 repress; LP version. Includes six-page booklet and download code. A tax haven and dream destination for wealthy travelers, the Republic of Mauritius is a multi-ethnic country that is currently experiencing full economic and social ascension. Banking, textile, tech, tourism industries... in this fast-paced melting pot, business is strong. But not too far from the heavenly beaches and luxurious hotels are quasi-shantytowns, reminding us that a large part of the population, often Creole (of Afro-Malagasy origin) are still excluded from the "economic miracle of Mauritius." These Creoles are mostly descendants of slaves who were deported in mass in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from Madagascar and the East African coast for the cultivation of spices and coffee and later sugar cane. On the margins of these hellish plantations was secretly created a music called tchiega, ch?ga or tsiega, a distant cousin of the blues. The music from Mauritius in the '70s found on this compilation naturally evolved from this original sega. Created at the crossroads of Afro-Malagasy, Western and Indian cultures, pop, soul and funk arrangements, syncopated ternary polyrhythms, saturated guitars, psychedelic organs and Creole vocals, this musical phenomenon is as incredible as a tropical flower in bloom. Although the origins of sega remain quite unknown, it is known that it contains vocal and percussive practices that originated from Madagascar, Mozambique, and East Africa. A social escape and a space for improvisation, satire, and verbal jousting, it transcended everyday life and made room for the expression of conflicts and the transgression of taboos. Inseparable from dance, sega is thus exposed as part of a pair: bodies brush against each other, stare at each other, get excited but never touch each other. The main instrument of sega is the ravanne, a large tambourine-like drum made of a large wooden frame and goat skin. It is accompanied by the maravanne, a rectangular rattle filled with seeds, and also often by a triangle, a bottle, a machete or any metal object that can be hit with a stick. Features Harold Berty, Ti L'Afrique, Claudio Veeraragoo, Paul Labonne, Georges Gabriel, The Features Of Life, Roland Fatime, Jean Claude Gaspard, Jos Henri, Coulouce, John Kenneth Nelson, Lelou Menwar, and Daniel Delord.

CYRIL CYRIL Le Futur Ca Marche Pas CD
Cyril Cyril's music seems familiar because it's not deaf to its neighbors, in the broadest sense: Geneva, their lair, Europe, their playground as a duo, and the world, their grocery store. There's plenty in those two heads, but just the two of them on stage. Cyril Yeterian fiddles with a polyglot banjo and catches his tangy voice on the fly with pedals. Cyril Bondi hauls around a huge drum kit (voted wackiest of the decade), covered in sonic shells and the occasional pad. For their third Born Bad album, they have invited two lads from Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Ine?s Mouzoune (multi-instrumentalist from Amami), and Violeta Garcia (whose cello features on Le Futur c?a marche pas). Genosidra, aka Carlos Quebrada, who crafts club delicacies in Bogota?, mixed heavy, full gravy, a challenge given the quantity of material, recorded as a family affair at Insub Studio. This album features heavy guitar/drums text-driven ballads, polyrhythmic noisy drum splatter with crafty vocal knitting, deconstructed and harmonically ambitious compositions, and Latino frogs croaks. Since their previous efforts Certaine Ruines (BORNBAD 109CD) and Yallah Mickey Mouse (BORNBAD 138CD), it turns out that the future isn't working out so badly for the two Cyrils, who each have a label to run. Bongo Joe for Yeterian, Insub for Bondi -- who also beats the drum for La Te?ne in his rare spare time. And that's not counting with their supergroup Yalla Miku (with Hyperculte, Anouar Baouna, Ali Boushaki, and Samuel Ades). Quietly sitting on crates of records, they patiently build their sound. Never tired of sick networks and never-ending struggles, Cyril Cyril live is a rousing mess, shouting out the common spleen while still managing to have a good laugh.

DE POLO, RICCARDO Ascension 12"
The epochal energy of "Ascension" captivates from the very first moment, making it an ideal intro track. With its cinematic soundtrack reminiscent of "Vangelis," Italian producer Riccardo De Polo has crafted a sublimely ethereal experience that transports listeners into the vast expanse of space. As stars and planets drift by, the music beckons listeners to explore further, to surrender themselves to the moment. The low strings serve as a booster until the rocket engine roars to life and the spaceship disappears into another galaxy. Subsequently the polyrhythmic sequence of "Wahnstimmung" spirals abstractly far below the cerebral cortex. The driving bass drum, paired with shakers and percussion, propels the composition forward at a steady pace. The tension intensifies, painting a picture of liquid metal pouring into a melting pot. Pure, stripped-down techno as we know it from its origins. "Inception" hypnotically takes you into a deep state of trance, engulfing you in a tribe's energy. It's truly a classic Cocoon sound that has its very own place in Sven's sets. The vigor is palpable, the shimmering sequence will make the dust visibly glow above the open-air dance floors while the air begins to shimmer. Noisy snare drums heat the narrowed arrangement to the absolute boiling point.

MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO & MERZBOW Extinct CD
Cold Spring Records present a unique collaboration between industrial breakbeat pioneers Meat Beat Manifesto (Jack Dangers) and the undisputed king of Japanese noise, Merzbow (Masami Akita). "We may not speak the same language, but in the vortex of sound, there's a raw, primal understanding that transcends words. Noise can be art, a visual representation could maybe be Jackson Pollock's No 5, a plexus of chaos redefining what music can and could be. Pushing boundaries with Masami wasn't just a musical adventure, it was a masterclass in sonic anarchy" --Jack Dangers, January 2024. Extinct sees the duo take listeners on a transcendental journey, focusing on the dismantling of beat and structure and recycling the result through layers of beautifully crafted noise and feedback loops, giving birth to new rhythms buried deep in the dirt. The 20-minute opener "!FLAKKA?" takes constantly evolving breakbeats which are gradually broken down over time, driven through a filter of harsh noise, destroying the old to give birth to the new. Raw and unforgiving, the track is a behemoth that blends mutant forms of broken beats and hints of dub, creating rhythmic noise of the highest caliber in the process. "Burner" takes the record to its ultimate conclusion, the initial drum beat broken down so that it is barely recognizable. Pulsating distortion and high-end audio fragments bleed into each other as the track lumbers forth and destroys everything in its path before slowly unravelling, degrading and falling apart. A harrowing yet somewhat cathartic trip through walls of harsh industrial noise and audio degradation, Extinct is a masterful pairing of artists who have delivered something truly unique yet totally relevant. Composed, recorded, and produced November 2023-January 2024 by Jack Dangers and Masami Akita. Art by Abby Helasdottir (Gydja).

LLYN Y CWN Megaliths CD
Step into the shadows of ancient mysticism as Llyn Y Cwn, the maestro of Welsh dark ambient, unveils the mesmerizing odyssey that is Megaliths. A profound exploration of the sacred resonance embedded within stone circles, capturing years of field recordings from the silent and enigmatic monuments that stand as timeless witnesses to the ebb and flow of existence. Ben Powell has crafted a sonic voyage that mirrors the sacred spaces marked by stoic pillars of rock, each track representing a specific site. Delving deep into the esoteric significance of stone circles, the album portrays these structures not merely as historical relics but as religious ceremonial sites where the veil between the world and the eternal realm becomes tantalizingly thin. Extracting ambient soundscapes from burial chambers, Ben has utilized convolution reverbs to replicate the ominous ambiance of these ancient spaces. A veteran of stone circle exploration, Ben's decades-long journey has yielded field recordings that capture the haunting whispers of wind and the solemn caws of crows, enveloping the listener in a ghostly atmosphere that transcends the ordinary. Guided by the wisdom found in Julian Cope's The Modern Antiquarian and Aurbrey Burl's A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain, Llyn Y Cwn embarks on a sonic pilgrimage across the country, exploring the remote bleakness of these sites. The album transitions from the cramped, gloomy chambers of tombs to the unroofed, wide rings -- a journey from darkness to light, from the dead to the living, and from the grave to the sky. Megaliths is a ritual, a sonic s?ance that beckons listeners to commune with the ancient energies that saturate these sacred circles -- an atmospheric descent into the heart of mysterious realms, where the boundaries between the earthly and the spiritual blur into an indistinguishable, haunting atmosphere. Embrace the darkness, and let the stones speak. The journey begins now. Presented in a six-panel flood-printed digipak with breathtaking photography by the artist.

NERVOUS GENDER Music From Hell 2LP
Repressed; double LP version. "Nervous Gender's legendary synthpunk LP Music From Hell burbles up from infernal depths to resurface on Dark Entries! Confrontational, unhinged, and unabashedly queer, Music from Hell is an unholy grail for fans of the strangest underbellies of post-punk, minimal synth, and early industrial music, and is presented here newly remastered and on expanded double LP. Nervous Gender (de)formed in LA in 1978 at the hands of Phranc, Gerardo Velaquez, Edward Stapleton, and Michael Ochoa. Phranc, the androgynous embodiment of the band's name, left in 1980. Following her departure, a wide cast of LA freaks would find themselves drawn into the band's orbit, including Alice Bag of the Bags, Paul Roessler of the Screamers, the Germs' Don Bolles, and an 8-year-old drummer named Sven Pfeiffer. In 1980, Nervous Gender appeared on the seminal Live at Target compilation alongside Factrix, uns, and Flipper. With the band's notoriety cemented, Music from Hell followed in 1981 on Subterranean Records (as no LA label would touch this material). Side A, dubbed 'Martyr Complex,' presents a more punk-forward sound with live drum salvos and slabs of aggressive synth. These twitchy, unsettling shockers ooze with the kind of snotty misanthropy that will endear them to fans of the Screamers or Crass. Side B, known as 'Beelzebub Youth,' is a live performance the band labeled 'an electronic bruto-canto dissertation on the banality of spiritual transcendence.' Mutant melodies cede way to synthesized clangs, whirs, bleeps, manipulated tapes, and howls of despair. In addition to all the material from the original LP, we're treated to a full disc of the band's demos, the material from the Live at Target compilation, and early live recordings. Included are unrecognizable covers of Carly Simon and Lou Reed, and the Sex Pistols that are so despairingly skewed they fall into the void. This reissue of Music From Hell includes a 36-page lyric booklet, foldout poster, and gatefold sleeve with photos, flyers, and news-clippings designed by Eloise Leigh. Tackling taboo issues like sexual kinks, mental illness, drug use, and childhood molestation, Music From Hell is still surprising -- even shocking -- over 40 years after the album's release. Nervous Gender stand as one of the most genuinely anti-establishment outfits in underground music, a colossal fuck you to social norms from religious strictures to gender essentialism."

BREEZY Riding On A High & Windy Day 7"
"Here's the inaugural release in a new series from the archives of the late great engineer and producer Philip Smart. Philip's resume is impeccable -- early friend and collaborator of Augustus Pablo, radio host and DJ, first apprentice of King Tubby, and founder, producer and engineer at one of the major reggae studios of New York City history, HC&F. Many years back label Goldshop did a series of 45 reissues of the dancehall classics from Philip's Eclipse label. This first release is a must -- produced by Philip during his time as engineer at Tubby's studio, this is an awesome rockers style take on the moody Paragons classic. The flip features a classic blueprint mid '70s Tubby's style dub, HPF in effect with the first Prince, Philip Smart at the helm. Originally released thru Brooklyn's legendary Keith's record shop back around the time it was recorded."

NICOLAI, BRUNO Bruno Nicolai For Jess Franco 5CD
Digitmovies presents the soundtracks composed by Bruno Nicolai for four of Jess Franco's movies: A Virgin Among The Living Dead, 99 Women, Nightmares Come At Night, and Eugenie De Sade'70. A Virgin Among The Living Dead's score features several atonal music themes for strings with additional distorted electric guitar. Nicolai has written a wonderful love theme for the main character of Christine, a sweet and melancholic theme performed by the crystal voice of Edda Dell'Orso. For Nightmares Come At Night, Bruno Nicolai has written an OST of experimental kind, perfect as background for the protagonist's recurrent nightmares. He alternates experimental atmospheres with piano and percussions, with suspended motifs for guitar, organ and light percussions and with a magic love theme. The soundtrack for Eugenie De Sade'70 was originally released in 1969 on the Gemelli label. On the 99 Women soundtrack, Nicolai has written and conducted a symphonic score that alternates mysterious, dramatic and action themes to other romantic and sensual ones given by the sax and the orchestra that reprise instrumental variations of the main theme song. For this publication, Digitmovies used every take found in the original master tapes.

BAIRD, MEG Dear Companion LP
2024 repress. "There was a time when traditional music was just folk -- a time when folk wasn't hyphened up with words like psych and rock and pop. It was just there on its lonesome, like a lone girl and guitar. That's what you hear on Meg Baird's Dear Companion. Her lyrical singing and songwriting imbues the sound of the psych-folk group Espers, but this is Meg's solo debut. Traditional songs are of such great age that it is not known where they began. They are lost to time, for a world to pick on and interpret. With songs like 'The Cruelty of Barbary Allen,' 'Willie O' Winsbury,' and the title track, Meg interprets the old airs with voice and fingerstyle picking. Mixing traditional songs with her original compositions lends the album its variety. She further mixes it up by reaching for some deep cuts from a few records most listeners haven't yet heard. Sure, there's a Jimmy Webb song -- but there's Meg to thank for all future listens to Fraser & DeBolt (whose delightful 'The Waltze Of the Tennis Players' is covered) and Chris Thompson. And her cover of The New Riders of the Purple Sage song 'All I Ever Wanted' will make your heart explode in a way the NRPS version never did -- gently. Dear Companion has such a completion that just as the album is finishing and your mind is thinking 'Great record, I wish she'd sing one a cappella,' the moment comes when Meg does just that, as if a mind were being read somewhere. Whether you're a listener of hyphenated folk music or not, Dear Companion is a musical companion that will show you a bit of the traditional sandstone that folk is built upon and the simultaneous empathy and entertainment it can provide."

BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY Lie Down in the Light LP
2024 repress; LP version. "Bristling with guitar strings and laced with harmonies, Lie Down In The Light is the brightest album to date from the Bonnie 'Prince.' Brisk tempos skip among his signature slower numbers and ballads. Bonnie's vocals are among his most expressive: carefully nuanced, singing all up and down his range, showing him at a judiciously dynamic and tuneful apex. Coloring the sound, is a subtle backdrop of percussive slaps and shakes (but nary a drumkit), touches of keys and steel, delicate harmony-vocal arrangements and other sweet surprises that might send some sad-sack fans back to their auto-erotic dungeons, fresh toys in hand. Lie Down In The Light features Bonnie repeat players Paul Oldham and Emmett Kelly and also benefits from the multi-instrumental presence of Shahzad Izmaily, who works percussion, piano, guitar, banjo and the mysterious, sensual 'row of wenches' -- I mean, mysterious, sensual 'row of wrenches.' New (duet) partner Ashley Webber forges her own presence next to Bonnie in a pair of fantastic turns. Additionally, some of Nashville's finest appear in between the band's strings and harrows, adding light (and yeah, we see a little darkness, too) wherever they appear."

UNKNOWNS, THE East Coast Low LP
The Unknowns second LP, originally released on Bargain Bin Records in Australia. "There have already been some monster LPs released in 2023, and the sophomore album from The Unknowns just might be the best of the lot. The Brisbane-based then-trio released one of the greatest punk albums of the roaring twenties (so far) with Nothing Will Ever Stop back in late 2020. Now a foursome following the addition of The Chats' Eamon Sandwich on guitar, The Unknowns have returned with an even better follow-up. East Coast Low manages to take most of the musical genres I hold dear and mash them together in the most delightful way. Basically the sound is classic punk rock with a ton of energy and catchy tunes (what else would you expect from Australia?). Yet at the same time, this album aligns beautifully with modern-day garage punk, power pop, and straight-up rock n' roll. East Coast Low packs ten tracks of punchy sing-along punk rock into 23 and a half minutes of pure fun. Songs like 'Dianne,' 'Rid of You,' 'Thinking About You,' and 'I Don't Know' prove once again that there's a certain kind of itch that only old school punk rock n' roll can scratch. These guys are doing nothing new. But man, they do it so freaking well! If we're talking about the cream of the contemporary Aussie punk crop, The Unknowns have earned a place in the conversation." ---Josh/ Faster and Loude.

JODOROWSKY, ADAN The Dance Of Reality LP
2015 release. After a twenty-three-year hiatus, The Dance of Reality marked the triumphant return of Alejandro Jodorowsky, the visionary Chilean filmmaker behind cult classics El Topo and The Holy Mountain. In the radiantly visceral autobiographical film, a young Jodorowsky is confronted by a collection of compelling characters that contributed to his burgeoning surreal consciousness. The legendary filmmaker was born in 1929 in Tocopilla, a coastal town on the edge of the Chilean desert, where the film was shot. Blending his personal history with metaphor, mythology, and poetry, The Dance of Reality reflects Jodorowsky's philosophy that reality is not objective but rather a "dance" created by the imagination. Written, performed and recorded by Alejandro's son, the acclaimed actor, director and musician Adan Jodorowsky, Dance of Reality's original soundtrack expands from gossamer folk acoustic guitar themes and solo piano compositions to rich cinematic orchestral arrangements echoing the work of John Barry and Ennio Morricone combined with extrovert narrative traditional pieces executed in the vein of Nino Rota. This LP contains the sixteen original compositions that make up the score for Alejandro's seventh feature film which witness a return to the ABKCO film company who produced his underground classics El Topo and The Holy Mountain.

T.R.A.S.E. Electronic Rock 7"
Originally released in 1981. Known amongst a small group of teenage friends as T.R.A.S.E. (Tape Recorder And Synthesiser Ensemble) this previously unearthed and fully formed electronic music project was spearheaded by a 16-year-old schoolboy as an extension of his woodwork, metalwork and science classes in 1981. Composed and recorded using a self-made synth, audio mixer and electronic percussion units T.R.A.S.E would bridge the gap between a love for sci-fi horror soundtracks, Gary Numan B-sides and an extra-curricular hobby as a sound and lighting designer for school plays -- bequeathing a backstory as unique and unfathomable as the individualistic sonic results that he would finally commit to C90. Having successfully recorded his only solo album, Electronic Rock (which was never duplicated beyond his own demo copy), this early musical achievement by Andy Popplewell stands up as a rare self-initiated example of embryonic experimental electro pop and genuine outsider music, marking the early domestication of synthesizers and the dawn of electronic home recording studios and the uninhibited results. This ambitious cross section of robotic funk and moody soundscape sequences makes instrumental nods to John Carpenter and Kraftwerk next to unpolished vocal drones worthy of a sedated Human League or Joy Divison, all of whom shared radio dial digits amongst Giorgio Moroder, Tubeway Army, and The Glitter Band as Popplewell's clearest unabashed influences. The T.R.A.S.E tapes, finally unearthed by Finders Keepers, show the full extent of the projects repertoire before the "group's" final hiatus which, for Andy, was followed by a working education in London under BBC employment as a trainee radio engineer (not far from the closed door of the Radiophonic Workshop) which has since led to a widespread reputation as one of the country's leading independent tape engineers/editors/archivists indiscriminately splicing and baking vintage tapes for anyone in-between Alpha in Brussels and ZTT in London.

YIN YIN The Age of Aquarius LP
2024 restock; LP version. Y?n Y?n's dazzling second album dives even deeper into dancefloor propulsion and space travel atmospherics than their lauded debut The Rabbit that Hunts Tigers (2019). The beautiful, old and somewhat staid city of Maastricht, where the band is based, isn't really conducive to setting up a bustling music scene: and it's a place where the outsiders quickly recognize each other. Y?n Y?n are all "nightlife people", which meant their friendship initially came about through co-organizing and deejaying DIY parties. Things started to move for real when Yves Lennertz and Kees Berkers decided to make a cassette tape that drew on references to Southern and South East Asian music. Once the idea was formed, Lennertz and Berkers wasted no time in taking "a lot" of instruments to a rented rehearsal room in a small village near Maastricht. They asked friends to help out, and they became a full band: with Remy Scheren on bass, Robbert Verwijlen on keys and Jerome Cardynaals, and Gino Bombrini on percussion. A "united against the world" stance is also heard at the end of "Declined by Universe". It's a funny, maybe surreptitious statement of belief in what they do. Y?n Y?n also wanted to create an illusion of strength in other ways: "Declined By Universe" sounds as if there is a large group of people playing, not just the core band. Nods to brilliant, invigorating dance music abound, some of the thumping beats in numbers like "Chong Wang" the title track and "Nautilus" drop some thumping 1990s-style electric boogie and Italo disco chops along the way. Then there is "Sh?nzou V.", which plots a stately course between eastern-inflected pop music, Italo, and Harmonia-style electronic meditations. The expansive richness in sound and feel may be down to the fact that more samples, drum computers, and synthesizers are used on The Age of Aquarius than in their previous records, a process that intertwines with real-time playing in the studio. "Faiyadansu", for example, started with a sample found on an old traditional Japanese koto record. Cosmic appropriations of time also crop up in the titles, which may give the lie to some of the band members' preoccupations with the state of the world. An old trope musically the Age is most famously referenced in the hippie musical, Hair. Other direct references to cosmic times are in the track names "Kali Yuga" and "Satya Yuga": the Kali Yuga, in Hinduism, is the fourth and worst of the four yugas (world ages) in a Yuga Cycle, preceded by Dvapara Yuga and followed by the next cycle's Krita (Satya) Yuga.

The freedom and power of a live performance is important to Child in their approach to music, endeavoring to never perform the same way twice. They look forward to once again bringing this to the world on their continued search for sonic paradise. 2018 saw the release of Child's first EP, simply titled I. Recorded live to tape, I is a glimpse into the boundless directions that could be taken on upcoming releases.

KOMEDA, KRZYSZTOF Jazz Jamboree 63 LP
This is the legendary Krzystof Komeda Quintet caught live at the Jazz Jamboree Festival in Warsaw in 1963. A marvelous combo featuring some of the greatest Polish jazz musicians such as Tomasz Stanko (trumpet), Michal Urbaniak (tenor sax), Maciej Suzin (bass), and Czeslaw Bartowski (drums). Komeda, Stanko and Urbaniak were sort of pioneers who effectively opened up a way for jazz in Poland. Komeda's fluent modern jazz conception was a perfect synthesis between the American influence and a certain Slavic lyricism. The album includes an astonishing version of "Ballad -- From Knife In Water" from Komeda's soundtrack for the 1962 Roman Polanski movie. A major statement in the East European music history.

MARTIN, KEVIN RICHARD Black 2LP
Long-awaited vinyl release for this critically acclaimed album from October 2023. "Black is a musical eulogy to Amy Winehouse, a heartfelt memorial to a sorrowful demise. It's an album of predominantly beatless ambience possessed by the ghost of 'Back to Black.' Fragmented moods and hypnotic drones melt together as its circular beauty is set adrift, floating away into an endless void, where the original only remains in spirit alone. It doesn't make particular sense why I was drawn to this idea and compelled to immerse myself in the original song, and her life in general, but sometimes you just have to roll with your muse. Having barely registered her whilst she was alive and not cared for Mark Ronson's poptastic productions, it was only when I heard of her tragic death that it struck an unexpected chord, recalling the same surreal emotional impact as when I had heard of Kurt Cobain's premature passing previously. Both figures were unarguably gifted, but both left this planet largely without essential support, whilst they were at the peak of their powers and on top of the musical world. Gone too soon and departed too young, a world-weary voice carried on a downward spiral, Amy Winehouse seemed trapped in her self-destructive descent. It was only years later, whilst randomly watching Asif Kapadia's moving bio doc Amy on a long-distance flight, that I realized the scale of her greatness and the tragedy of the circumstances that led to her untimely death. This album is simultaneously a treatise on lovelessness, tragedy and loss, echoing the absence of a support network when it matters most during such a freefall. And just as myself and others I know shed tears watching that Amy documentary, this album is as much a reaction to the universal emotional themes conveyed within that touching documentary as to the tragic life of Amy herself. I have been working on the idea of this sonic album for over a year, and the slo-mo dream rotations remain as blurred and impressionistic as they are repetitive and haunting. An eerie cocktail of spectral jazz, shoegaze drone and dubbed out ambient music, it continues the solo path I have been developing as KRM. I hope it strikes a chord." --Kevin Richard Martin

VA Basso Presents: Sitting In Trees LP
John Mayer band member and studio guru called Basso, the "ECM of chill wave," is best known for his label Growing Bin and probably even more so for the online record shop of the same name. He is one of those miraculous figures in music or record culture who can be called a true believer. Helplessly addicted to collecting music nonstop (hence Growing Bin) from all corners of the spectrum and with an uncanny knack of finding precious little diamonds, where others only assume slop, his shop features everything from original trance tapes to fake reggae and plain private press folly. Much to the pleasure of his devoted customers and even more so to the nickel nursers who use his website for window shopping and go bargain hunting in the dusty canyons and wide plains of the internet. Unfair, you might think, because knowledge like that comes with a commitment. Sitting in Trees for International Feel is a sampling demonstration of this commitment. Devotees of his previous compiling efforts Proper Sunburn (Music For Dreams) and Lucky Are Those Who Hear The Birds Sing (Growing Bin), know what to expect: some of the best songs you have never heard before, some you would probably never hear without this and even some that you did not know you would even like. Even self-proclaimed record diggers might not recognize more than "Mystery Voice" by smooth jazz new agers Dancing Fantasy. It is a world of merry music that pretty much is boundary- and genre-free and includes sunshine stepper like Beau Michael's "Move Away." Patrick Jahn's and Erobique's previously unreleased "Moonlight Shuffle" (the soundtrack to a lost Schimanski Tatort) and Christian Ch. Kneisel's impossible-to-find Balearic digi gem "Jungle Connection." All contextualized, explained and wonderfully described with meticulous liner notes by the king of record descriptions himself: Basso. Also featuring Edwin Schimscheimer, Peak Of Normal, Beau Michael, Summer Vee, and Ikee Largo.

CONGO, DAWEH Human Rights & Justice LP
"Daweh Congo has propelled himself to the forefront of conscious heartical roots reggae with this album Human Rights & Justice, originally released in 2000. Human Rights & Justice personifies the essence of jah music today. Daweh's voice and his righteous livications for Rastafaris and Marcus Garvey often result in his being compared to 1999 Grammy winner Burning Spear. On Human Rights & Justice, Daweh exalts his spirituality with such incantations as 'Jah is my shepherd,' 'Drums,' and 'Jah Mercy Seat.' His cries for a better world can be heard on 'One World,' 'Earth running,' and the title track. Daweh Congo recruited the formidable talents of Roots Radics, Jamaica's premier back -up band to lay the rhythms that can be heard throughout this album. The heavy drum and baselines from Style Scott and Flabba Holt, along with Daweh Congo's mesmerizing voice, have catapulted human Rights & Justice to the number one position on ireggae.com's top ten album for the month of May, 2000."

AL-DOS BAND Doing Our Thing With Pride 7"
Kalita presents the first ever 7" single reissue of what is possibly the most coveted gospel disco record in existence, the Al-Dos Band's soulful masterpiece Doing Our Thing With Pride. This iconic reissue is backed by the band's previously unreleased recording "Love Jones Coming Down." At long last, Kalita revives this South Carolinian grail single, housed in a limited-edition picture sleeve. Originally penned and produced in 1976 by husband-and-wife duo William and Elizabeth Robinson in Greenville, South Carolina -- a city steeped in musical heritage -- the record was released in a run of just 200 copies the following year on their own label, Warmer Productions. Doing Our Thing With Pride epitomizes the best in uplifting crossover gospel disco, equally suited to both peaceful listening and dancefloor action. Despite garnering some attention upon its original release, the single struggled to make headway against the prevailing music forces of the time. Coupled with mounting academic and familial obligations, the release faded into obscurity, eventually becoming a highly sought-after gem, commanding exorbitant prices whenever an original copy surfaced for sale -- a rarity that occurred only once every decade. Now, following their successful unearthing of the band's unreleased album in 2021, Kalita present this remarkable record in a limited-edition 7" picture sleeve single.

TUPPERWEAR Pentagonono LP
With this new project, their fourth full-length work, Tupperwear completely departs from the "stylish" electronics and trends to delve into a profound exploration of the fundamentals of music. It involves a quest or even a game through the extrapolation of geometry into various musical parameters, encompassing classical aspects like pitch, timbre, rhythm, intensity, etc., as well as noise, textures, or the implicit mathematics in natural or irrational elements. Pentagonono delves into cosmology and nature. It is a musical approach without prejudices to basic numerology that unveils the universe, the harmonic scale, the number e, and logarithmic spirals. The golden ratio (phi) and the omni-present number pi are also explored. Geometric shapes, proportions, and divisions of vibrating elements are transmit-ted through the air, internalized by humans, and transformed into music. Following in the footsteps of previous sound explorers from various spatial and temporal origins such as Gamelan music with its infinite polyrhythmic replication, psychedelia, serialism, musique concre?te, Bach, or J Dilla, this album presents itself as a materialization of ideas and concerns that, while already present in the band's musical understanding, are now brought to the forefront as if it were a vital manifesto. Artwork by Aristides Garci?a. Mastered by Daniel Baez.

MONTGOMERY, ROY Temple IV 2LP
"This is the first vinyl issue of Temple IV, arguably Roy Montgomery's finest solo album, originally released in 1996 on CD. The original album has been enhanced with two newer tracks that constitute side four of the album. Montgomery states: 'The two new tracks recorded in 2018 were about asking the question 'Can you step into the same river twice?' Heraclitus said you cannot. I say you can.' From the original press release: Few recording artists have aligned the quantity and quality of their releases as well as New Zealand singer/guitarist Roy Montgomery has in 1995. Beginning with Kranky's release of the soundtrack for an imaginary film That That Is... Is(Not) by Montgomery's duo Dissolve early in the year, a series of superb albums and singles have been issued by a variety of labels across the world. Each one of them is a must have. Most recently, the Drunken Fish label released a collection of pastoral drones entitled Scenes From The South Island, singles have appeared on the Roof Bolt and gyttja labels, and further singles are scheduled with Ajax, Siltbreeze, and others. Temple IV is the first solo recording by Roy Montgomery on Kranky. The album was recorded by Montgomery on a four-track tape deck and then thickened up with monophonic moog. The tracks on the album are thick with interwoven guitar lines and moog drone, inspired by the Guatemalan rain forests and the mysterious ruins of the temple and ruins Montgomery visited there."

VA Kuboraum Sound Residency 2LP
For its second release, following SAL?'s feverish self-titled debut album, Berlin-based platform Kuboraum substantiates its musical perspective, bringing together an eccentric set of tracks from friends and family. Each artist was invited personally by the platform to write a piece of music inspired by Kuboraum's philosophical and aesthetic principles. On this first compilation, Kuboraum asks like-minded mavericks to enter into a dialog with both the brand and each other, harnessing their personal expression to paint an open-ended portrait that emphasizes the lysergic spectrum of Kuboraum's vision. Veteran producer and Planet Mu boss Mike Paradinas, operating under his ?-Ziq moniker, crafts a hypnotic, dubbed-out roller with "Never," careening from willowy dancefloor rhythms into melancholy ambience, and on the other end of the scale, Space Afrika obscure an angelic voice with evocative glitches, melancholy pads and a dissociated kick drum on "3less." Meanwhile Moin -- the post-punk influenced project of Raime's Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead, alongside virtuoso percussionist Valentina Magaletti -- travel earthwards on "Lapsed," bending distorted, angular riffs around thuds, flutters and stifled vocal chops. Kuboraum also welcomes V/Z, with Susumu Mukai, aka Zongamin, and on "All the Rest of It," they disrupt cinematic, hauntological echoes with syrupy rhythms and spine-tingling, tape saturated sonics. Paris-based cloud rap futurist Emma DJ takes a sharp left turn, marrying flickering, neon-hued synths, tight Atlanta-inspired beats with ghostly bars, and notorious Nyege Nyege duo MC Yallah and Debmaster pull that thread even further, juxtaposing brittle, 8-bit blips with dexterous rhymes and an infectious chorus. Each track shines a laser through a different fragment of Kuboraum's vast artistic prism. The unifying force throughout is experimentation, something that's easy to hear on Zi?r's "Vacuum," two minutes of sticky, foley percussion and piercing bass, and on Quelza's undulating "Boiling Ice in Frozen Cup," that's like being trapped in an airlock as reality shifts outside. And the compilation closes with two tracks that couldn't be more different, or more fitting. Techno innovator Regis provides a dimly lit, eroticized banger with "Let Love Decide," and composer Lucy Railton plays the compilation out into the end credits, looping ornate strings, fictile electronics and breathy vocals on the fittingly baroque "Medieval Sui." Listened to as a whole, Kuboraum's debut compilation is unusually coherent, an accurate representation of the label's musical interests that paces confidently around the fringes of Berlin and beyond.

KRIEGSHOG Kriegshog LP
2010 release. The new wave of brutality and hardcore massacre has arrived. Tokyo punks Kriegsh?g are back with their first full length. After three lovable 7"s at LVEUM, they finally went for the album. Thirteen tracks of extremely bass-driven hardcore destruction. The recording is relentless, full of energy, and distorted. Yet, moving from the ultra blown-out recording of their earlier output. This is the band's most dynamic recording so far and in our humble opinion is destined to be a classic and genre-defining album. Second press of Kriegsh?g LP which La Vida Es Un Mus released back in 2010. Released in time for Static Shock Weekend 16 where Kriegsh?g will played their first ever European show. BRUX Fills De la Nit 7"
Brux are back with four tracks of their trademark sound. Four flanged out hard-hitting anthems, mixing the sharpest possible post punk with the roughest street rock'n'roll vocals. They keep their boots firmly pressed between two styles which seem polar opposites, resulting in new sounds made up of old formulas. Too angular for boot boys yet too crude for post punkers. Blending both blitz eras with death rock and current punk wave, and resulting on a fully formed band not afraid of displaying all their influences at once. Originally released by the band's label on a 100-run cassette at the end of 2023, this recording was simply too good not to exist on vinyl.

KRIEGSHOG Love & Revenge LP
Kriegsh?g is back. Five years after their last single and 14 since their debut album, the Tokyo Hardcore band finally delivers a new release. Love and Revenge is a record of consummate savagery and monster riffs. Picking up where the Paint It Black 7" left, and moving forward as a heavy toned hardcore record that finds the band in its own realm. While following the Japanese tradition of long running bands operating at their own pace and mastering their sound along the way. The band leave behind their speedier sound, moving now at a slower tempo but still pummeling their riffing sound. The incorporation of a new drummer, adds much more than a steady beat, amplifying the Kriegsh?g sonic experience. Their sound is still very bass driven, to the point of becoming nearly hypnotic -- quasi psychedelic at times, the guitar tone is crunchy and nasty and the vocal delivery has only got more brutal, with a glass eating demon on the mic conjuring the darkest side of your soul. Perfect for night rides into the abyss. Their influences are still there. With Kuro, Zouo, or The Clay shaking hands with the darkest '70s hard rock via Jerusalem and modern stoner rock via Kyuss or Sleep.

PEVERELIST Pulse Phase 12"
Matching his signature melodic futurism with enduring club music structures, Pev brings the Pulse series to a natural conclusion with the Pulse Phase EP. On this third release he underlines the broader approach to tempos and styles he's taken across this latest period of his output. If there's been a nostalgic streak detectable amongst the crisp modernism of the Pulse series, it comes through clearer than ever in the looped-up house jack and starry-eyed techno synth hooks of "Pulse IX." "Pulse TEN" pares back for a lean sound-system workout driven by a strafing arp and fractured drums while "Pulse XI" revisits '90s bleep techno with a deep, dubby intention. "Pulse XII" completes the picture capturing the skeletal pressure of two-step at its most slender and deadly. There's never a sense of over-familiarity -- the exacting angles of the drums and alien hue of the synths maintain Pev's distinctive sound first and foremost. But this series has also been an opportunity to hear some of his musical DNA more explicitly than before, cast in universal rave motifs propelled by the unrelenting pursuit of new forms for the dance. Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. DJ Polo returns to Livity Sound with an EP that moves beyond the UK funky styles he established alongside Tribal Brothers on The Link Up EP in 2021. Through his productions and steady online radio presence, the Bristol-based producer has been flying the flag for lean, punchy rhythms with a low-end focus, but on If The Glove Fits, Polo has branched out to explore different tempos and sounds taking influence from gqom, techno and Afrobeats. Much like his approach to funky, this isn't a set of genre exercises but more a celebration of the shared qualities which bind together dance music from different parts of the world. The result is four sharply-defined club workouts unique to DJ Polo that balance tension and release, flair and subtlety and a consistent physical weight true to Livity's emphasis on soundsystem suitability. Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. CHLOE SloMo A/V LP
SloMo A/V is the meeting of DJ and producer Chlo? Th?venin, who works in the studio to build soundscapes (as four albums and many soundtracks can testify), Dune Lunel, Paris-based art director, who has worked in the cultural field for over twenty years (her studio has produced many visual identities, with dynamic links between image and text), and Adrien Godin, a young artist from ECV Digital in Paris (Visual Communication school) who works as an art director and graphic designer. This special live recording is available on limited edition gatefold vinyl. SloMo A/V is not strictly speaking Chlo?'s ambient project, but an experience that could be described as immersive. Each SloMo A/V performance unfolds in the same way: Chlo? builds the sounds live while something comes to life on the screen, in the way the image is manipulated, the way it slows down, distorting the sound, drawing it out or spurring it on. Here, sounds generate images, or perhaps it's the other way around: hard to tell in this enigmatic, hypnotic dialogue. Since 2015, SloMo A/V has been performed at the Centre Pompidou, the Philharmonie de Paris, the TAP in Poitiers, the Sonar Festival, the Lieu Unique in Nantes, and the Southbank Centre in London.

ELIJAH & JAMMZ Make The Ting LP
"Make The Ting is a project born out of my writing on creativity that lives online as post it style notes known as the 'Yellow Squares' found across Instagram and Twitter. The first square was posted on July 31st 2021, as covid-19 restrictions were lifting in the UK and I was thinking about what the music scenes and wider creative communities are after 18 months of lockdown. The idea's developed into lectures presenting them in real life, but the platform felt right to explore my own creativity more broadly to challenge my own ideas in real time. My history as a DJ, label owner and promoter in the Grime scene wasn't at the forefront of these ideas, but I wanted to reconnect back to the ecosystem that inspired and gave me a creative career in the first place. Blay Vision's 'Cammy Riddim' in the summer of 2022 inspired an idea to translate the ideas in the squares into song form. I approached Grime MC Jammz about the idea, and the first song 'Yellow Square' was done with the core principles that I had written about so far? Jammz wrote all of the songs to one of his own beats, then we selected the final instrumentals we liked that we thought fit the ideas from both our camps the day before recording? On announcement of the album in March 2023, we released the acapellas, for people to do their own versions, before most of the original songs had been heard by anyone. We encouraged people to remix The Ting, and I did custom artwork for everyone that sent me a complete remix before the album came out on the 30th June 2023. The front covers are drawn individually by me. I wanted to make the record an extension of what I do with the yellow squares themselves and capture the energy of where my head is at in 2023. If it's blank, it's space for you to draw your own yellow square. Maybe what you think about the album, what it's inspired for you, or just a snapshot of where your creative brain is at on the day you are picking up this record. This could be the first of many albums, this could be a one off. Nobody knows what is going to happen next. It all may make sense in the end." --Elijah

Since 2011, the Berlin born and raised producer and DJ M?rbeck has been delivering numerous acclaimed techno releases via Vault Series and his own Code Is Law imprint as well as making his mark on the global club scene as a DJ. Fast forward to 2023 M?rbeck inaugurated his house guise, Midnight In A Toyshop, which aimed to showcase his passion for house productions in a lighter shade, whilst still retaining his signature rawness. Setting the tone to open the EP is "100's & 1000's", laying down war bling pad sequences and crunchy saturated drums in combination with a bouncy bass line and hypnotic vocal hooks throughout. The aptly titled "'90s Memento" follows, encapsulating a classic house sound with bright, mesmeric chords, rumbling subs, processed vocal lines and a bumpy drum machine workout. On the flip-side title-track "Dreams For Sale" shifts focus to trance-tinged staccato melodies, cinematic atmospherics, acid licks and a heavily swung rhythm before "Every Night" rounds out the EP on a classic deep house tip via ethereal pads, robust percussion circling synth lines and a vacillating low-end drive.

GRUPPO SOUND New York City LP
The discography of the phantom Gruppo Sound exceeds over thirty titles published in an undefined time frame between the '80s and the '90s. However, there is very little information about this curious pseudonym. it is possible to find a library music album by Gruppo Sound inside the Canopo, Deneb, Flower, Monosound Records, and Teams catalogues, all managed by Flipper Music publishing group, but both the creators and the musicians have never been the same. Gruppo Sound is only a collective name, maybe to identify a certain number of "new" productions characterized by an electronic background and, not by chance, the author of New York City is a single artist, the multi-instrumentalist Gabriele Ducros. Son of the prolific composer Remigio Ducros, he first followed his footsteps in the field of music libraries and soundtracks and then become the author of many tracks for television commercials of a certain relevance, winning some international awards. "Some of these tracks may have been associated with a pornographic film. Others were, however, made as brief comments for a theatrical show, perhaps never made", remembers Gabriele Ducros. What unites the thirteen pieces is the same musical language, which derives from a widespread funk and jazz matrix. Both genres are thus declined through a different approach and taste, in line with the fusion trends of the time, when the early synthesizers were used by few artists. A handful of electric guitar notes for an "urban" mood, the acoustic ones from a dreamy morning awakening. Electronic keyboards to arouse a sense of nostalgia in the listener, while flute and saxophone always punctuate different atmospheres. A computer melody, a theme for children and a sophisticated ode to the fusion sound of the Big Apple, perhaps true source of inspiration of the work. New York City is not a concept album, but one of the best cross-sections of Gabriele Ducros' great creativity.

QUANTEC Journey Of Mind 2LP
Quantec is nothing if not versatile. An aficionado of many styles including ambient, deep house, Detroit, dub, dubby electronics, experimental and roots reggae, he can turn his hand adeptly across the musical palette. For his latest release on Neighbour Recordings it's all about the "D"; deep ambient, drone, and dub techno that's dope with a capital "D." Not for nothing is his album titled Journey of Mind. It's a personal and self-assured trip from first note to last -- not surprising for a producer with almost 25 years in the game -- drifting as it does through contemplative sonic worlds and ethereal soundscapes. And while the label co-owner's handiwork here is from the "less is more" school of production, it's nonetheless big on atmosphere with an undercurrent of drama or melody never too far away. Notable destinations on this journey include "Depth of Immersion," "Mind Wandering," "Motionless," and "Perfect Stranger." Bon voyage.

MENDES, VINICIUS Macunaismo Tardio Vol.1 & 2 2LP
Vin?cius Mendes is a saxophonist, flautist, composer, improviser and researcher from the inland state of Minas Gerais in Brasil, known not only for its wealth of minerals and mining activities, but for its deep musical traditions founded by such pioneers as Milton Nascimento and L? Borges. Having graduated from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, one of the most important centers of excellence in Brasil, with a BA in Popular Music and an MA in Music, Mendes continued to research improvisation in free jazz and in Brasilian popular instrumental music at the university. In 2014, Vin?cius released his first instrumental work at the Savassi Jazz Festival, and one year later he recorded the album NAU -- a heady mix of free jazz and traditional Brasilian music, and something of a prelude to Macuna?smo Tardio, the album he recorded Volume One of in 2021 with Volume Two following in 2022 and one that is finally available in full. Macuna?smo Tardio is a perfect release for the label, masterminded by Jazzanova's J?rgen von Knoblauch, which concerns itself with shedding light on criminally overlooked masterpieces. This album is, without a doubt, one of these. The LP features original compositions by Mendes himself, as well as fresh arrangements of Brasilian classics from Lucca Noacco, Toninho Horta, and a stunning version of the evergreen dance floor classic "Aldeia de Ogum" by Joyce Moreno.

"Lethal Tender consists of the combined visions of Corum (of Timelash/Beguiling Isles) and newcomer 6-Ear colliding through a barrage of crunchy beats, off-kilter rhythms, hacked up speech synthesis, and bizarre melodies colliding and weaving to deliver a strange commentary of Americana industrial foolery a la Orange Milk Records, Sewn Leather, or even Herbie Hancock's Future Shock era chopped and screwed ripped and drippy on that special syrup. Funky, weird, and big but from a free-form noisy groove tip. Hard to pinpoint like a lot of Psychic Sounds releases, but intriguing as always. UNIVERSAL CELL UNLOCK Quasimodo The Streetsweeper LP
"What remarks can recall the pampered page when the subject shines through so many shaken seams? The remarks are for the producer of Quasimodo The Streetsweeper, the mysterious, though constantly revealing, CF, presenting himself here as Universal Cell Unlock. Christopher Forgues of Brown Recluse Alpha, Mark Lord, Kites, and author of blazetastic comic books. What remarks could remain after all that? However, one still finds this fresh pile of inviting and mature music, coated in the haunting haze of digital reverb. What premeditated remark could recharge reminisces of New York more than the city's newly appointed director of rodent mitigation? The lost legend of Tony Conrad running up the steps of a Manhattan church to meet the mysterious mad one playing the bells in the spire, Charlemagne Palestine. The bristles from the machines of swirling repetition that push parking brush to the side are repurposed here as pluckphonic metal keys, mined for their rich harmonic content. There are strategies taken from the decidedly unfocused on New York musical tradition of American and global capital-N Noise music. An invitation to a closed eye head bob is quickly revoked with a shock call to attentiveness. There's an attentiveness here. Across forty minutes of percussion music, with some stark electronic accouterments along the way, the focus on the form and compositional aspects is forgotten only to let the sounds build and interact without pesky human interruption. That's the remark to recall: remarkable music with new surprises pushed through." --Ben KudlerBlack and white double sided 11x17" hand stamped insert by CF. BOULDERHEAD I Need Space To Dance 12"
Boulderhead debuts on Rhythm Section International with his most expansive EP to date, I Need Space to Dance. The Bristol based producer, known for his intricately crafted, up tempo club records has long been a favorite at RS HQ and has, over the years, garnered much respect from a plethora of influential DJs. His most recent hit "Bread, Butter, Noodles, Spice," was a festival earworm and one of the most played underground tracks of 2023. Existing in the sweet spot between tech-house, prog, broken beat and minimal techno -- this EP sees Boulderhead widen his sonic palette with a collection of songs that showcase his versatility. Equally appealing to the Ricardo Villalobos contingent as it will be to those delving into the history of progressive house and the golden days of minimal techno. Despite the many different bases the EP touches on -- the sound pallet and production are unified and coherent. Henry is at the top of his game, and much like contemporary artists like Adam Pits, Priori, and Russell EL Butler -- his style screams ALBUM!

HANDOVER (ALY EISSA, JONAS CAMBIEN, AYMAN ASFOUR), THE The Handover LP
"There is, and has been, a prevailing orthodoxy permeating the Egyptian musical hierarchy that would render this spectacular piece as scandalous. But let us remember that over the past 100 years, Said Darwish, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Halim El Dabh, Ahmad Adaweya, and the modern Mahraganat movement have all experienced their fair share of scandal and opposition. Music must always be pushed forward -- it may not always succeed as revelatory, but in this particular case, it does. Much like the venerable magic carpet, The Handover slowly builds to escort you into its swirling, ascending expression of the psychedelic, eventually descending, step by step, back to earth, landing as a wonderous spaceship with wide open doors inviting us inside for repeat listening. Perhaps this should have been happening in Egyptian music 50 years ago but it's here right now, and that's what matters. We are often asked an impossible question to answer: 'What constitutes a Sublime Frequencies release?' For the moment, we can point to this record as the answer to that question." --Alan Bishop/Sublime Frequencies (March 2024)In The Handover, Aly Eissa, Ayman Asfour, and Jonas Cambien explore the common and uncommon senses of Egypt's ritual music. It is clear that Aly Eissa's original composition is deeply rooted in Egyptian and Arabic traditions. At the same time, this band is one of the most progressive coming out of Egypt today. This is in big part thanks to Eissa, who has proven time and again to be not only an extremely skillful composer, but also a real visionary, combining tradition with modern experimentation. A performance by The Handover is typically one stretch without break: a long build-up that lasts for the duration of the concert. Towards the end of the performance, all the tension is released in an exuberant, joyful climax, when wild improvisations are driven forward on top of exciting dance-rhythms from rural Egypt. The Handover elegantly combines the delicacy of classical Arabic music, the raw expressiveness of Egypt's countryside music, and the spontaneity of free improvisation, carefully obliterating the artificial separation between acoustic and electronic instruments. Despite the remarkable absence of any percussion or drums, The Handover is an extremely groovy band, with an ability to slow down and accelerate the tempo in almost telepathic synchronization at exactly the right moments. Alongside the tight ensemble playing there is plenty of room for individual expression as the oud, synthesizer and violin take turns playing solos on top of repetitive riffs. Throughout the album, native Alexandrian Ayman Asfour plays the violin with breathtaking beauty, while not being afraid to make the violin buzz, squeak and rattle at times. Belgian/Norwegian keyboardist Jonas Cambien makes the synthesizer a melodic instrument in its own right, at times evoking almost classical Maqam, while in other moments it seems like he comes straight out of an Egyptian wedding. The oud forms the backbone in the composition's structure, as Aly Eissa's solos guide the listener from minimalist, meditative drones, to a compelling climax, and back to earth. There is much more to The Handover's sound then the obvious references to Arabic and Egyptian music. The opening drone section of the album is pushed towards abstraction and even noise, and the vintage Farfisa organ gives the music a touch of '70s psychedelic rock. The repetitive riffs can be reminiscent of Embryo's experiments combining krautrock with influences from the middle-east, but the use of repetition to induce trance dates way back in Egyptian music, and is present in many rituals like Sufi and moulid celebrations. The composed melodies on this album couldn't be possible without Eissa's deep love for this music. And what The Handover does with this composed material couldn't be possible without three strong individual voices, their love to play music together and their dedication to push the traditions forward. (Recorded in Alexandria Egypt in January of 2023, this Limited-Edition vinyl LP includes a two-sided insert with additional photos, liner notes and bios of the musicians).

TELESCOPES, THE Radio Sessions (2016 - 2019) CD
The Telescopes Radio Sessions collects together the essence of three live session recordings in three different countries over a three-year period between 2016-2019. This is the third in a series of radio session releases from Tapete Records that have so far included The Monochrome Set and Comet Gain."Here we have three sessions, all different people transmitting The Telescopes sound on each. Some are regulars, some dip in and out and some were just passing through. In each case The Telescopes chose them as their vessel and as the lighthouse keeper I did everything I could to help them on that journey while trying to be a good caretaker to the house of many rooms. The Telescopes have been invited in for many sessions over the years, the first two were for John Peel on BBC Radio 1. We also recorded a session for Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe before their celebrity when they had a show on BBC Radio Manchester. We could have compiled this album from those sessions, it was certainly considered but Tapete and myself believe this selection gives an exciting glimpse into that fleeting side of The Telescopes in a constant state of flux that is left mostly to myth and imagination. For those who listen to the records but have never had the chance to take in the live experience, welcome to the other side. For those that follow us live, here's a little reminder and a keepsake. Infinite suns." --Stephen Lawrie, February 2024

CHARTIER, RICHARD On Leaving CD
For over a quarter of a century, sound artist and composer Richard Chartier has interrogated an ever-deepening thread of minimalist sound that meshes questions of stasis, pulse and timbre. The result of this work is some of the most quietly intense compositions of this century. His is a music of subtle variation, unwavering concentration, and also patience. This five-part work created between 2020 and 2022 is dedicated to his friend and fellow sound artist Steve Roden. Mastered by Denis Blackham. Photography and design by Jon Wozencroft."I first became friends with Steve Roden (and later his wife, Sari) back in 1998 when my first album direct.incidental.consequential was released. He was one of the first group of artists to whom I sent the album. Almost instantly he had been there on the other side of the phone (or email) and ever since. His way of listening and attention to details (no matter how small) was inspirational -- the clarity and complexity of his understated and only seemingly simple compositions, engaging... I worked on the compositions included on this album as Steve gradually slipped away from communication. He was not in my life like he had been before. During this time, it became apparent that these pieces were for Steve. A reflection of his ability to find beauty in the most minute details. Even when finally reviewing the final masters after his passing, I tried to think about how Steve would listen. What would Steve hear in the details? His effect on this album is strong... the accumulation of influence and inspiration. This album feels organic and warm and was developed during a time when his absence in my life increased." --Richard Chartier, February 2024

GEESIN, RON Basic Maths: Soundtrack From The 1981 TV Series LP
Limited black vinyl. Full color sleeve with unseen pics of Ron Geesin in his studio doing math stuff on the back. Ron Geesin made this kooky electro groovy score to a really progressive math educational program on Central TV in 1980, and it's musically anarchic and amazing, and it's never been issued before. Until now."Basic Maths was the second educational TV Series for the Midlands-based ITV station for which I composed, played and recorded all music and noises. The first series, also for budding mathematicians in the 7-10 age group, was Leapfrog in 1978 produced by ATV (Associated Television): Basic Maths was for the newly-formed Central Television, the work spanning 1980-1981; both series were of twenty-eight parts. The most-worthy idea for both of these series was to project mathematics into life by means mainly of non-verbal sound and vision, with both animated and live action films, linked by two presenters, Fred Harris and Mary Waterhouse. In my role as media composer, I had had quite enough of voice overs, therefore music well under, so this fairly radical educational approach at the time encouraged my creative juices to run unhindered. Of course, the sound had to do something with the picture and not just use it as a carrier for peacock display. It had to duet, play with and explain the visual content using novel and engaging techniques, so this involved the usual and sometimes intricate mathematical calculations which constantly exercised my already reasonable school maths." --Ron Geesin

VANNIER, JEAN-CLAUDE Roses Rouge Sang LP
2011 release. Precisely four decades since the original release of the 1971 LP Histoire De Melody Nelson, Serge Gainsbourg's most celebrated composer, arranger and composer Jean-Claude Vannier returns to the same artistic territory that has since come to represent his most iconic period and continually inspire almost five generations of experimental rock luminaries. Respected throughout France as a long running singer-songwriter and experimental composer in his own right, it has taken this inclusive forty-year period for his music to travel beyond his central European fanbase thanks to a growing community of vinyl archeologists and French pop and conceptual rock enthusiasts who have come to clearly recognize the recurring production credits to JCV as a seal of quality and approval while taking gambles on Parisian picture sleeve pop. This LP comprises a personnel of the legendary European session players that appeared on classic Vannier and Gainsbourg scores such as Cannabis, La Horse, Slogan, and Les Chemins de Katmandou, as well as Histoire De Melody Nelson itself, and his own mythical follow up LP, the truly bizarre 1973 avant-garde ballet L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches. The rhythm section line-up for the album comprises Pierre-Alain Dahan (drums), Dougie Wright (drums), Herbie Flowers (bass), Tony Bonfils (bass), Vic Flick (guitar), Denys Lable (guitar and banjo), and Marc Chantereau (percussion). Recorded partly in Paris and partly in the UK (not unlike the classic Gainsbourg LPs) the album Roses Rouge Sang ("Blood Red Roses") hears JCV taking care of vocal duties in his own unique style combining the macabre and the optimistic with ingenious world play and expert poetic use of the French language. Flourishing from initial rehearsal sessions for the first-ever live performance of Histoire De Melody Nelson, Roses Rouge Sang captures the authentic line-up just weeks after their initial reunion. With Roses Rouge Sang, JCV combines a lifetime of experience working with some of the best orchestras and pop rhythm sections in throughout the world with a return to his roots and his initial, radical ideas on how contemporary music could combine the two.

The musical references are to the America of Tim Berne and the Europe of Marc Ducret -- the polyphony and rhythmic pulse of the urban environment. But the connections, even if not strictly musical, reach far; "Axis: Bold as Love" by Jimi Hendrix and "AlasNoAxis," Jim Black's debut album. More than one axis: axes.

STAR SPLITTER Medea LP
Duo in the mirror that, in a continuous game of doubling and multiplication, ventures into another world, dense with unexpectedness and vital thrills. Sun Ra and post-rock, as well as Chicago experimentation and echoes of the world of Suzanne Ciani and minimal music, are the hints one can sense while listening to Medea, a journey to the edge and beyond. Star Splitter's new album comes five years after the debut album, a period in which Gabriele Mitelli and Rob Mazurek experimented with the infinite possibilities of this lineup, the length and breadth of Europe, at some of the most important festivals. In complete freedom, a three-day session in the recording studio in Reggio Calabria gave birth to Medea, a dedication, in retrospect, to the film work of Pier Paolo Pasolini.

GORAN KAJFES TROPIQUES Tell Us CD
The Swedish quartet Goran Kajfe Tropiques share their new music with We Jazz Records. Tell Us, an album consisting of three long pieces composed by the group, is "slow music" to the bone, a deep body of work utilizing the language of jazz as its core mode of communication but echoing way beyond. The quartet is expanded with strings, adding wings to the music and helping it lift off the ground in a personal, highly engaging manner. The Tropiques quartet consists of Goran Kajfe (trumpet, synthesizer), Alexander Zethson (piano, organ, synthesizer), Johan Berthling (acoustic bass), and Johan Holmegard (drums) -- each a key member in the Swedish creative music scene, with experience from groups such as Dungen, Ghosted, Fire!, Gard Nilssen's Supersonic Orchestra, Oddjob, plus many more, including Goran Kajfe's own Suptropic Arkestra. Their music, groove based and connected to the tradition of "minimalism" has at times been called "hypno-jazz." Tropiques initially came together in 2011 when Kajfe was commissioned to compose and perform music to a performance by the Swedish modern dance company Vindh?xor. Since then, the group has evolved in its own ways and independently from, yet informed by, their origins. That is, the experience of creating music together with a strong sense of movement. All three compositions on Tell Us expand on what the Tropiques have done before, building around their signature style and its spacey texture and rooting the musical narrative in strong melody, rolling groove and their collective limitless urge for sonic exploration. As the opener "Unity In Diversity" goes to show, Tropiques's compositions are like flowers opening slowly, each element and layer growing out of what has come before, in a constantly surprising manner. This music, then, becomes the perfect antidote for the quick-fix eye candy rolling down your smartphone screen. This music will take its time, but it'll also create new dimensions with each second as it unfolds.

AHVENLAHTI, OLLI Mirror Mirror CD
Mirror Mirror is the new album by the Finnish jazz legend, pianist/composer Olli Ahvenlahti. Championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Kenny Dope, Ahvenlahti is a master of hard-grooving jazz funk. Here, he continues the evolution of his style, much-beloved since the legendary 1970s albums such as The Poet and Countenance. Ahvenlahti's new group highlights some of the best talent on the Finnish scene, including trumpeter Jukka Eskola, saxophonist Joonatan Rautio, bassist Ville Herrala and drummer Jaska Lukkarinen. "I'm always striving to make one more great record," Ahvenlahti says. "I'm 75 years old this year and as the years pass, this goal seems all the more concrete. Thus, Mirror Mirror feels a bit like 'now or never', an album that reflects all of my career and searches for something new at the same time." For fans of the classic Fender Rhodes-driven Ahvenlahti jazz funk sound, Mirror Mirror is manna from heaven. Earlier performances of the current group were billed as "The Poet II," which speaks of Ahvenlahti's desire to continue on the lineage of his classic '70s period, while adding new layers and hues into his signature sound. The present album is a further continuation of the idea, the next step for the band tried and tested on such sought-after performance spots as Helsinki's Flow Festival, Odysseus Festival, and Pori Jazz. Mirror Mirror is a well-balanced affair for Ahvenlahti and group, showcasing both their hard-driving funky edge and Ahvenlahti's knack at composing effortless and melodic "slow music," which strolls along at its own pace. The singles "Paint It Blue" and "Rhythm and Rhymes" drive the groove hard, with each band member bringing their soul into it, while especially on the album's last two selections, an honest form of serenity reigns supreme. Perhaps "honesty" is the key here. At 75, there is no extra effort to gain recognition or short-term goals with Olli Ahvenlahti. This is "simply" beautiful new work from a seasoned artist and a scene legend, whose wisdom extends beyond mere composition and performance into the social workings of a jazz quintet. He knows how to make music where everyone can bring in their core musicianship and also be challenged to top what they knew before getting in. RIYL: Olli Ahvenlahti, The Poet and Bandstand, classic jazz funk ? la Bob James, Herbie Hancock, Patrice Rushen, and Mizell Brothers productions.

MO KOLOURS Original Flow CD
We Release Jazz announces an exciting new body of work by Joseph Deenmamode aka Mo Kolours. A catalog of critically acclaimed records, including his self-titled debut (2014), Texture Like Like Sun (2015), 2018 album Inner Symbols and three companion EPs, established Deenmamode as a prodigious musician and vocalist. The tracks on Original Flow have been constructed from sessions, improvisations and soundbites captured around the world; collecting contributions from musicians including Deenamode's brothers Reginald Omas Mamode and Jeen Bassa plus Andrew Ashong, Charles Bullen, Dwaye Kilvington, Eddie Hick, Stefan Asanovic, Myele Manzanza, Ross Hughes, and Tom Dreissler. Original Flow is an album of UK street-soul nouveau, future indigenous jazz fusion, Rasta Segga, Nyahbinghi jazz, Malagasy Hebrew hip hop. While retaining a spirit of exploration and improvisation, it sees Deenmamode grow and flex beyond beat tape brevity, expanding composition and stretching his musical muscle to play live with other musicians. Themes of empowerment, overcoming adversity, and mental liberation coexist with notes from ancient history, futurism, and science, as well as musings on family and togetherness.

FAIRUZ Kifak Inta LP
2024 repress; Wewantsounds present a first-time vinyl reissue Fairuz's classic album Kifak Inta produced by her son Ziad Rahbani in the late '80s and only released on cassette and CD in 1991. Composed and arranged by Rahbani, who had already produced Wahdon (1979) and Maarifti Feek (1987), Kifak Inta features his usual blend of jazz, funk, and Arabic music, spiced up with Brazilian influences serving Fairuz's beautiful voice. Fairuz is a living legend and one of the greatest divas of the Arab world. She came to prominence in the '50s crossing path with the Rahbani Brothers (Assi and Mansour) an encounter that turned into a fruitful collaboration that would last until the '70s, spawning countless classics in the process. Fairuz's marriage with Assi produced a son, Ziad, who would start a brilliant career as a cutting-edge playwright, musician, and producer in the early '70s. When Assi Rahbani became ill in the mid-70s and the couple separated, Ziad took over as Fairuz's musical director and started to add elements of jazz, funk, and bossa nova to her music. The collaboration started in 1979 with Wahdon which included the funky cult classic "Al Bosta". They worked together again in 1983-84 on the album Maarifti Feek which was released in 1987 and continued their collaboration with Kifak Inta a few years later. The album was released on the Lebanese label Relax-in in 1991 on cassette and CD only, but, although there are no recording dates listed, the track "Ouverture 87" indicates it was recorded around that year. The album follows the same pattern as previous Ziad Rahbani productions for his mother and mixes traditional Arabic music ("Farewell Song", "It's Not a Problem"), jazz-funk ("Ya Leili Leili Leili"), and bossa nova ("Indi Thika Fik"), all featuring Ziad's superb orchestrations and slick arrangements. The jewel in the crown is the album's title track, "Kifak Inta" (And You, How Are You?), a ballad written and composed by Ziad Rahbani. The song is sung by a woman opening her heart to her childhood sweetheart, now married to another woman, and confessing she still loves him. The subject was controversial and created quite a stir when the song came out in the still conservative Lebanese society of the time. The track "Prova" which closes side one is a fascinating studio rehearsal of "Kifak Inta" featuring both Ziad and Fairuz. Remastered audio by Colorsound Studio in Paris. Includes new liner notes (French/English) by Mario Choueiry (Institut Du Monde Arabe).

MUMMIES AND MADMEN Glow Dark in the Sun CD
CD reissue of this cassette, originally released by Coventry's Slob Tapes in 1984, featuring two lengthy pieces of garbled electronics, distant planet serrated guitar churn, basement Wobble-esque bass, primitive rhythms and the kinda spoken word that wouldn't seem out of place on a record by The Fall or The Shadow Ring. Originally recorded as a one-off, these tracks feature connections to what at the time seemed like a fervent enough local scene via the involvement of not only Slob Tapes' founder and early Attrition live percussionist Bob Oliver, but also Alan Rider of Stress and the Adventures In Reality label. Serving as another document of an incredibly fertile time in music, this album perfectly illustrates just how far some of those concerned could go with limited resources.
