FLEETWOOD MAC Live in Seattle 17.01.1970 2LP
By their US tour of early 1970 Fleetwood Mac live were combining their love of the blues with extended versions of their own songs, leavened by a smattering of '50s rock n' roll classics. The version of "Rattlesnake Shake" here breaks through the twenty-minute barrier, whilst covers of "Let Me Love You", "Stranger Blues", "Baby Please Set A Date", and "Great Balls Of Fire" never made it on to a studio album. Double vinyl LP recorded for FM radio. Recorded at the Eagles Auditorium, Seattle on January 17th, 1970 and broadcast on KOL-FM. Comes with full credits and extensive sleeve notes.

ELODIE Enteha LP
A Colourful Storm presents Enteha, the latest piece by Elodie, the duo of Andrew Chalk and Timo van Luijk. Chalk and van Luijk embody a free-spirited approach to music making whose improvisational process can be traced to a distinct period of Europe's post-industrial landscape. More than two decades of ambitious solo and collaborative work would solidify both Chalk and van Luijk as masterful craftsmen exploring the tension between composition and free improvisation: their individual lists of collaborators boasts Christoph Heemann, Giancarlo Toniutti, David Jackman, and Colin Potter, to name but a fe. A figment of two imaginations, Elodie appeared in 2011 almost fully formed with each record patiently revealing glimpses into a world concerned with time dilation, the phantasmagoric and spirits of the everyday. Enteha is one of the duo's more melancholic pieces and can be seen as a human response to seasonal transition. It's one of their uniquely longform explorations of mood and atmosphere as an air of romance drifts deftly into mystery and despair. The delicate hues of autumnal haze. The deceptive optimism of morning light. A work of supremely understated beauty that will appeal to anyone who finds solace in Harmonia, GAS, Joanna Brouk, Roberto Musci, and Zoviet France. Includes insert.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Tepid Peppermint Wonderland Volume 2 2LP
2022 repress. Tepid Peppermint Wonderland Volume 2 includes the second half of the double CD Tepid Peppermint Wonderland: A Retrospective (AUK 013CD, 2004), remastered for vinyl. Following Tepid Peppermint Wonderland Volume 1 (AUK 026LP, 2004), Volume 2 continues to mine the period of 1995 through 2004 and includes key tracks from all of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's albums as well as live recordings and many otherwise unreleased tracks. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist and singer Anton Newcombe. Beginning in 1995, The Brian Jonestown Massacre released numerous albums, first on BOMP!, the label that gave them their start, and later on TVT Records and Tee Pee Records. The band was essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase (the band name is a reference to Stones guitarist Brian Jones and Peoples Temple founder Jim Jones), but his work in the 2000s expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music. Gatefold double LP version.

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Fire Doesn't Grow On Trees LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl. Recorded in Berlin and remotely between 2020 and 2021, The Brian Jonestown Massacre returns with their 19th full-length studio album. Fire Doesn't Grow On Trees is the beginning of a thrilling new phase for Anton Newcombe and his band. Joining him in the studio and remotely for this album were Ricky Maymi (guitars), Ryan Carlson Van Kriedt (keyboards), Hakon Adalsteinsson (guitar), Hallberg Daði Hallbergsson (bass), and Uri Rennert (drums). Originally, Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase -- the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones. But his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK shoegaze genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

LEROSA Catena Cassette
Lerosa's fourth full-length, Catena, is also his second for Berlin-via-LA label Acid Test. It sees the Dublin-based producer once again draw deeply on his diverse influences -- dub, industrial, electro, trance, funk, IDM -- and transform them into a sound signature that has always been uniquely his own. This alchemy is no accident. Rather it is driven by Lerosa's ongoing pursuit of the fundamental meaning of dance music: to immerse ourselves in sound to the point where our only desire is to move and feel in the moment. Hence how, on Catena, the slow and sensual sway of a cavernous bit of dub can sit side-by-side with hands-up trance-like ecstasy, and all still sound like Lerosa. This achievement is the result of a dedicated daily studio practice. Each track starts from a dynamic studio jam in which Lerosa plays drum machines and synthesizers live and then overdubs them with further modulated layers. He uses looping techniques to build up the density of certain instruments while mixing the layers on-the-fly, using something as unassuming as an iPad. This imbues each track with a spontaneous shifting quality that defines the entire album. What comes through is a sound that speaks of Lerosa's love for the studio, for the tangible substance of an audio frequency -- analog and digital, raw and processed, pure and saturated -- and the intangible, indeed bewitching mystery of how these frequencies can transport you to other places.

FERRARI & CHRISTOPH HEEMANN, BRUNHILD Sturmische Ruhe LP
After her stunning collaboration with Jim O'Rourke -- Le Piano Englouti (BT 055LP, 2020) -- Brunhild Ferrari returns to Black Truffle with Stürmische Ruhe, her first duo with Christoph Heemann. A legendary figure in underground music, Heemann has quietly produced a unique body of work since his beginnings with the absurdist cutups of H.N.A.S. in the mid-1980, including collaborations with Merzbow, Organum, and Nurse With Wound, the eerie psychedelia of Mirror (with Andrew Chalk), In Camera (with Timo van Lujik), and Plastic Palace People (with Jim O'Rourke), and the precise cinema pour l'oreille constructions of his solo works. Created together in Ferrari's Parisian studio (once shared with Luc) between 2011 and 2014, Stürmische Ruhe is a single half-hour piece that folds rain and storm recordings into an intricately woven fabric of haunted electronics, unexpected edits and disorienting processing. Banging with the jarring thump of a slamming door (an element that will reappear periodically throughout the piece as a kind of punctuation mark), it is immediately obvious that concrete sound is used here in a free, poetic way outside of the strict confines of documentary field recording. The wind captured by Ferrari's microphone roars and whistles, accompanied by thick clusters of wavering tones whose unpredictable rises and falls in volumes are synchronized with the bumping and thudding of windows and doors. At some points the microphone sound melts into a wavering low-bit digital smear before fanning out into broad, atmospheric depths. The cinema for the ear constructed here suggests not linear narrative or documentary, but an organic flow of cross-fades, double-exposures and abrupt cuts, a free-associative dream in which wind and water take on mythical characteristics. Throughout the piece's second half, layers of synthetic floating tones, and pinging upward glissandi negotiate a constantly shifting balance with wind-borne whispers and rustles, at times dropping to silence, at others rising up with elemental force. As Ferrari explains in her liner notes, Stürmische Ruhe is a meeting of "completely opposite sound worlds" in which "almost-violence" is joined with a "reconciling harmony". Reaffirming the infinite possibilities of the musique concrète tradition while avoiding its academic tropes, Stürmische Ruhe is accompanied by tri-lingual liner notes from Brunhild Ferrari and arrives in a sleeve graced with the beautiful art informal paintings of her father, Wolfgang Meyer Tomin. Cut at 45rpm for maximum fidelity. Includes insert.

ALIT & GAMELAN SALUKAT, DEWA Chasing the Phantom LP
Dewa Alit, Bali's master of contemporary Gamelan composition, returns to Black Truffle with Chasing the Phantom, presenting two recent works played by the composer's Gamelan Salukat, a large ensemble that performs on instruments specially built to his designs, using a unique tuning system that combines notes from two traditional Balinese Gamelan scales. Alit explains that the ensemble's name suggests "a place to fuse creative ideas to generate new, innovative works" and both compositions demonstrate the composer's ability to wring stunning new possibilities from variations on the traditional Gamelan ensemble. While using familiar elements of Balinese Gamelan music, such as unison scalar melodies and stop-start dynamics, Alit's music is overflowing with harmonic, rhythmic, and timbral inventions, the latter often facilitated by unorthodox playing techniques. "Ngejuk Memedi" (Chasing the Phantom) results from Alit's reflection on the complex relationship between tradition and modernity in Balinese culture, particularly in the way that belief in the phantoms or spirits known as "memedi" are shared through social media using digital technologies. Embodying this uncanny co-existence, the opening passages of the piece are at once immediately recognizable in their use of the metallophones of the Gamelan ensemble and strikingly reminiscent of electronics in their timbre and movement. At points, what we hear seems to have been fragmented with digital tools, or even to originate in some incessantly glitching DX7. After several minutes of this manically tinkling metallic sound world, the metallophones are joined by drums for a meditative passage of lower dynamics, as the uniformly high pitch range explored in the opening sections gradually opens up to include resonant low gong hits. "Likad", written during Covid-19 lockdowns, channels anxiety and uncertainty into musical form, resulting in a piece that, even by Alit's standards, is stunning in its complexity and the virtuosity it demands of Gamelan Salukat. Its opening section is perhaps most remarkable for its mastery of texture, with rapid transitions between dry, muted strikes, and metallic shimmers calling to mind the use of filters in electronic music. At points, the complex irregular repetitions of short melodic patterns, where the music seems to get stuck or be suddenly interrupted by a skip, recall the mad sampler works of Alvin Curran or the skittering surface of prime period Oval more than anything familiar from acoustic percussion music. Moving through a dizzying series of twists and turns, the piece ends with a majestic sequence of chords possessing an almost hieratic power.

HENNIX/LAWRENCE KUMPF, CATHERINE CHRISTER Poesy Matters & Other Matters Book
"This two-volume set, Poesy Matters and Other Matters, presents selected texts by the Swedish polymath Catherine Christer Hennix. Volume one, Poesy Matters, is divided into two sections: poetry and drama, with each section also containing pieces of commentary by Hennix or her longtime collaborator Henry Flynt. Volume two, Other Matters, is divided into two sections: first, program notes and essays about a wide range of topics (including music, psychoanalysis, and mathematics), and second, a reproduction of Hennix's 1989 work The Yellow Book. The first comprehensive publication of Hennix's written work, Poesy Matters and Other Matters illustrates the singular depth and variety of her contributions to contemporary music, art, literature, and mathematics. Best known as a composer, Catherine Christer Hennix has, throughout her fifty-plus-year career, produced innovative work in the fields of not just minimal and computer music, but psychoanalytic theory, intuition mathematics, poetry, and prose as well. The texts in Poesy Matters and Other Matters reflect Hennix's diverse training as well as her long-standing personal interests in Lacanian psychoanalysis and Japanese and Middle Eastern poetic forms, resulting in a rich, diffuse collection of writings that reveal one of the avant-garde's most implacable, not to mention overlooked, creative minds."

TOMOKAWA, KAZUKI Try Saying You're Alive!: Kazuki Tomokawa in His Own Words Book
"A vivid account of life on the margins and Tokyo's 1970s underground culture from a Japanese folk legend Tokyo in the 1970s was a magnet for young musicians, poets and painters. Among them was Kazuki Tomokawa, a prolific singer-songwriter from Japan's northern provinces, whose guttural vocals and incisive lyrics earned him the unofficial title of 'screaming philosopher.' The stories in this memoir--originally published in 2015 in Japan and now appearing as the first English translation of Tomokawa's writing -- are told with a rambler's wit and wisdom, bringing together his memorable reflections on six decades of day labor, drinking, gambling, acting, singing and writing. Figures such as Kan Mikami, Nobuyoshi Araki and Sh?ji Terayama drift through this down-and-out vagabond's memoir, which observes the turbulence of postwar countercultures and the explosion of Tokyo's underground film and music scenes. Also available from Blank Forms Editions are Kazuki Tomokawa's first three records: Finally, His First Album (1975), Straight From the Throat (1976) and A String of Paper Cranes Clenched Between My Teeth (1977). Since his debut in 1974, he has released more than 30 albums. He is additionally known as a poet, painter, keirin enthusiast and inimitable drinker. ANDERSON, MILLER Bright City LP
Bonfire Records present a reissue of Miller Anderson's Bright City, originally released in 1971. Miller Anderson is a guitarist and vocalist, born on April 12, 1945, in Houston, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Since cutting his musical teeth in bands with Ian Hunter (pre-Mott the Hoople) and Bill Bruford (pre-King Crimson and Yes), Anderson has been a member of such bands as the Keef Hartley Band, Savoy Brown, T. Rex, Mountain, the Spencer Davis Group, and in groups led by Deep Purple's Jon Lord and folk-rock balladeer Donovan. His 1971 debut Bright City was released on the legendary Deram, sub-label of Decca that released new records from 1966 onwards for the likes of Moody Blues, Caravan, Camel, and several British jazz-rock legends. The album is a brilliant example of modern folk with lush strings arrangements thanks to guitarist and producer William "Junior" Campbell, leader of the Scottish pop-rock group The Marmalade. A brilliant songwriting alongside a pastoral feeling, gentle melodies and a solid background with several amazing players literally bridging the gap between contemporary pop and blues. Harold Beckett (John Surman, Graham Collier) on flugelhorn and Lyn Dobson (The Keef Hartley Band, The People Band, Third Ear Band) on flute were literally stalwarts of the British jazz-rock and experimental scene, their contributions is behind greatness. Same with keyboard player Mick Weaver, another Keef Hartley alumni. The album -- faithfully remastered -- offers a vision of urban Scotland with a bluesy feel and it has to be ranked alongside the work of such luminaries as Donovan or Nick Drake. Fully licensed. 180 gram vinyl; edition of 500.

SALAMANDER The Ten Commandments LP
Bonfire Records present a reissue of Salamandar's The Ten Commandments, originally released in 1971. The biblical ten commandments are surely the main inspiration behind this concept album originally released on British independent label Young Blood in 1971. The one and only release by Salamander, a short-lived UK four-piece, the album is a quintessential prog opera with a heavy effort on Hammond organ and lush orchestral arrangements. Comprised of Alister Benson (organ, vocals), Dave Chriss (bass), John Cook (drums), and Dave Titley (lead vocals, guitar) the band was often compared to The Moody Blues and Deep Purple Mark I. Even if the ten tracks are inspired by the holy script, the band was not proven to be Christian rock itself. The album is a sublime pompous pop affair, with a good dose of fuzz guitars and brass section. Fully licensed. 180 gram vinyl; edition of 500.

LA FEMME Psycho Tropical Berlin 2LP
2022 repress. French indie-rock band La Femme is a conundrum -- an episodic band with various faces. La Femme was born during the X years in Biarritz, France, when Sasha and Marlon started composing music on their guitars and recording it onto Garage Band. Together they ride surfboards, pianos and synthesizers as they explore various styles from '60s yé-yé French pop to California surf music. Marlon moved to Paris, and there he met Sam, who played bass. Together, they formed SOS Mademoiselle along with Olivier Peynot, and played vintage French rock, as Sasha was practicing his scales in reverb surf band Les Redoutables. Sasha then joined his friends in Paris, where they discovered French cold wave and synth pop, Marie et les Garçons being one of their favorites. They polished a style that could be described as one of the following: surf-wave, bizarre-wave, strange-wave, weird-witch-wave, silly mental-wave or psycho-tropical Berlin. Joined in 2010 by drummer Noé and female singer Clémence. La Femme formed its first live roster in a few days and took shape that same year with its first anthem, "Sur la planche," a song that was made to be hummed and whistled while riding a surfboard. Later on, La Femme released their second EP, Paris 2012. Soon joined by fancy rhythm drummer Nunez Ritter von Merguez aka La Sauterelle and singer Clara Luciani, as well as a whole roster of female singers, they now present their debut album Psycho Tropical Berlin where rock, pop, rococo Bauhaus, as well as influences from Kraftwerk and Elli & Jacno conjoin just to please you. WHITE PAIN Paroles Absurdes LP
Camisole unveil another part of the French cold wave history with the reissue of the Paroles Absurdes LP by White Pain, originally released in 1986. Hailing from Lyon the band began as a duo with Patrick Saveau and Patrick Gravier in 1984. Active figures in the underground scene of their city, they played some gigs and even had their own show on the local radio station. They developed a small following around them and recruited other members to record this album in 1986. Paroles Absurdes is driven by the feeling that you can't escape your fate. Saying words that you sometimes regret but you feel to be true. This testimony infuses this whole album. However, positive assumptions flow from time to time and left their more pop appeal roll into some songs. This reissue also includes the first two tracks of the group only released on tape in 1985. As a duo, White Pain was a synth and drum machine band inspired by early '80s German pioneers like DAF or Din a Testbild. They used to have a raw, powerful, and dark sound quite unique in France at this time. "Vienna" is probably the best way to resume their first intention.

GOLDENROD Goldenrod LP
Reissue, originally released in 1969. The Vietnam War, the excruciating motto "turn on, tune in, drop out", all of a sudden everyone was in a new era, just across the lysergic exploitation and the political turmoil. The self-titled album by American trio Goldenrod was released on a small run in 1969 on the enigmatic Chartmaker. An instrumental album full of extended and improvised jam recorded in their hometown of Los Angeles. It comprises of just four tracks, enough for an essential trip. Titles such as "Karmic Dream Sequence" and "Descent Of The Cyclopeans" offers a new exploratory vision, between the past and the future. Goldenrod was a rare metaphysical drug experience you wouldn't miss again! All three band members met while playing behind The Fifth Dimension and they had earlier played with Ballroom who were a pre-The Millennium-Sagittarius band. After all the three members became all of a sudden top LA session musicians. Jerry Scheff went on to play with The Millennium (the Californian super group led by Curt Boettcher, basically consisting of psychedelic rock musicians) while Ben Benay appeared in the blues-rock outfit Funzone in the seventies.

Lovecraft, after whom the band had named themselves. This is possibly one of the best second-division psychedelic albums, that shows the immediately identifiable Edwards-Michaels vocal tandem at its best. With deft touches of folk, jazz, and sultry horn arrangements the album was a cult behind his own generation.

REPEAT ORCHESTRA Infamous Lost Tracks LP
Stefan Schwander's Repeat Orchestra presents Infamous Lost Tracks, an album appearing out of the blue, coming from spheres where time, space and Zeitgeist are nothing more than words. With the Repeat Orchestra, Schwander (who of course also is Harmonious Thelonious, A Rocket In Dub, Antonelli, and a lot more) found a unique way of channeling deep house music, a minimalistic setup and an idea of creating enjoyable music into amazing tracks that sound so effortless and natural. From first track "Call And Response" on it's obvious that the main thing that this album is about is the groove, sometimes euphoric, sometimes quite unobtrusive but always irresistible, build from massive basslines, complex rhythms and the masterfully performed interplay of repetition and modulation. Warm harmonies, multilayered (at times quite unusual ("Nightdubbing") melodies and subtle arrangements complete these Infamous Lost Tracks and their very own formular between Düsseldorf, Chicago, and Lagos. There's nothing harsh in this music, no aggression, still it's far from being tame or tranquil: The pumping energy of "A Means To An End" or the sublime liquid shuffle of "Less Sensational" show the swing and kick inside these works that are made for delight but not to please. And "Monks In A Club" is the most brilliant example of dancefloor understatement that you'll ever hear in your life. Reduction, elegance and the right kind of mania concentrated into some minutes of pure club heaven. Handclaps, nonchalance, and madness. An essential singularity and the swan song to the Repeat Orchestra, there will be no more of it.

ORTOLANI, RIZ Farewell Uncle Tom LP
Restocked, last copies/reduced price. Dagored present a vinyl reissue of the soundtrack for Farewell Uncle Tom ("Addio Zio Tom"), complete with extra tracks. Italian directors Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi gave birth to a whole new subgenre of "non-fiction" exploitation movies with their 1962 hit Mondo Cane. After repeated accusations of forgery, unethical behaviors, and war crimes, they decided to make a movie about the atrocities of American slavery as an apology of sorts. It was 1971 and the movie was Farewell Uncle Tom ("Addio Zio Tom"). The famous critic Roger Ebert called the result "the most disgusting, contemptuous insult to decency ever to masquerade as a documentary." Naked flesh, voyeurism, and violence is constantly used but gorgeous photography and a memorable score from Academy Award nominee Riz Ortolani add a sickening slickness to it all: rock-beat tunes mixed with classic big band themes, waltz, and funny marches and the beautiful "Oh My Love", with the vocals from Katyna Ranieri, used, among many others by Winding Refn in his cult movie Drive (2011).

NURSE WITH WOUND Salt Marie Celeste - Salt 2CD
A welcome re-release, as an expanded version, of one of Nurse With Wound's most notable albums. Originally recorded in 2002 by Steven Stapleton and Colin Potter, the piece "Salt" was a limited-edition release to accompany an exhibition of Stapleton's artwork at The Horse Hospital in London. The following year Salt Marie Celeste was released as a single 61-minute-long piece of droning atmospheric sound that manages to be both minimal and maximal at the same time. A parade of strange, often unlikely, sounds appear and disappear during the voyage from Z to A. Described by many as being one of the most unsettling and/or engaging NWW recordings, it went on to feature in many "albums of the year" lists of 2003. This new edition comes in a six-panel digipack with stunning all-new artwork by Babs Santini.

VA Thai? Dai! - The Heavier Side of the Luk Thung Underground LP
Limited 2022 repress; originally released in 2011. Fourteen slabs of the heaviest Thai funk and psych rockers ever committed to vinyl. The styles featured on this compilation fall somewhere between luk thung ("song of the countryside") and luk krung ("song of the city"). Bangkok was a melting pot for the evolution of these two genres, the former alluding to musical themes and lyrics aimed at the wider national population and the latter looking westward with a more urban audience in mind. Thai? Dai! collects experiments by both little-known groups and established figures like Plearn Promdan. Even within Thailand the majority of these tunes remain unissued outside of this compilation, making this a truly essential glimpse into the strange underbelly of Thai luk thung in all its unique, original, and outlandish glory; a small snapshot of an otherwise forgotten era, gloriously remastered from the original sources and officially licensed from the original label, Sound of Siam Co. Ltd. Includes performances by Sroeng Santi; Plearn Promdan; Rung Petchburi; Rung Fah Puping; Petch Burapa; Teungjai Bunpraruksa; Riem Daranoi; and Jalwal, Annie & Geerasak.

STEVIA/SUSUMU YOKOTA Greenpeace 2x12"
Reissue, originally released on CD in 1998. In 1997 and 1998, the late great Japanese composer, producer, and DJ Susumu Yokota released two of the most eclectic albums of his decades-long career, Fruits of The Room (GLOSSY 010LP) and Greenpeace. Recorded under his Stevia alias for Tokyo techno pioneer DJ Miku's Newstage Records/NS-COM, they were Yokota-san's homage to the foundational days of club music in Japan. Glossy Mistakes present the first official vinyl editions of Fruits of The Room and Greenpeace, originally released on CD during the golden days of the format. Packaged in reimagined cover artwork created by the celebrated Japanese visual artist Masaho Anotani, these two albums perfectly capture the diversity at the heart of Yokota-san's oeuvre. Across Greenpeace sees Yokota-san conjuring up a heady concoction of dusty loops, sampledelic breaks, kraut-rock, and psychedelic downbeat. A remarkable listening experience based on the inspired era of a genius. When Yokota-san wrote and produced the music on Fruits of The Room and Greenpeace in 1997, he was reflecting on the broader culture that surrounded dance music in Japan in the early to mid-nineties. It was an era when the psychedelic culture of late sixties America, the afterglow of UK acid house/rave, the new age movement and cyberpunk dovetailed together. Within DJ Miku and Yokota-san's social circles, the thinking of Timothy Leary, Ram Dass, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William S. Burroughs electrified the air. By 1996, the moment, brilliant and blinding as it was, was over. "We all felt that the rave scene fizzled out," DJ Miku says. As he puts it, there was a collective feeling around him that it had all become too much. From the calm that followed, DJ Miku, Yokota-san and their open-eared peers made the decision to switch tracks and start from scratch. DJ Miku believes that with his Stevia releases, Fruits of The Room and Greenpeace, Yokota-san wanted to express the sweet and sour nature of the passing of those wild early days and his wish for true peace. "At the time, we saw eye-to-eye, with an implicit understanding of each other," he explains. "Even now, twenty-five years later, I am confident it was like that."

LANE, DANNY SCOTT Wave To Mikey LP
Wave to Mikey, the fourth album from the Los Angeles-based actor, musician, and photographer Danny Lane is a nocturnal, neon-lit ode to the friendships that shape us. "I made this album for my friend Mikey from back home," Danny explains. "We were pretty much inseparable for a large part of our lives, and our musical and social minds were always in sync in a special way. Then with age, we drifted apart, especially since I moved to Los Angeles. This album is just a little wave hello to an old friend and a kindred spirit." Equal parts avant-garde composition, instrumental city-pop, ambient, Kanky? Ongaku (environmental music), and fourth world music, Wave to Mikey is an impressionistic and reflective cycle of eleven richly detailed memory portraits. Throughout the album, the influence of Jon Hassell, Arthur Russell, Hiroshi Yoshimura, and Yellow Magic Orchestra hangs in the air like late-night mist, adding character but never overshadowing the rhythmic ambience of Danny's musical visions. Wave To Mikey began as a series of sketches on analog synthesizers, guitar, sample and found percussion sketches, initially recorded in Danny's home studio. Once he'd located the vibe, Danny called on his friends E Talley II, Solange collaborator John Carroll Kirby, and Destroyer session musician Joseph Shabason, who respectively added flute, spiritual synth textures and saxophone to the record. For Glossy Mistakes founder Mario G.R., who originally discovered Danny through his photography, Wave To Mikey captures a vivid feeling of melancholy and peace. Wave To Mikey marks Glossy Mistakes' second contemporary album release, following on from Evenings by Japanese composer Metoronori. Mastered by Damian Schwartz.Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Danny began playing music with his friends when he was thirteen, before putting that passion on pause to study Fine Arts (Theater) at Rider University in Lawrence Township in pursuit of an acting career. Acting led him to photography, after playing a photographer in a film, he was inspired to pursue the medium. Danny began shooting photos on film for magazines and lifestyle brands, spent a stint living in New York's Chinatown neighborhood, and eventually relocated to Los Angeles in 2017. Four years ago, Danny started recording and releasing music under his own name, leading to the trilogy of releases that preceded Wave To Mikey, How To Empty A Cup (2019), Memory Record (2019), and CAPUT (2021). Over the course of these releases, he's revealed himself to be a sophisticated composer and producer with a studied ear from years spent digging through record bins for ambient, experimental, new age, jazz, and electronica records from around the globe, with a particular emphasis on Japan.

Rather than concentrate themselves on other outputs, the band wanted to celebrate the long road made together as musician and human beings, that made as background in the progressive construction of this album, with a proper debut album, long in its creation as the band itself. Through the episodes of this journey, the trio experiences different moods and sounds on the path, sealing through the dreamy waves of space and acid rock towards the perilous reef of heavy blues, stoner, and sludge metal, finding strength and inspiration in the solid cohesion that bound the three members. Steady rooted in the metal, rock, and blues tradition, Cosmic Awakening tries to find a personal manner to melt heavy music and psychedelia, shadows and lights, with a focused starting point, but going to nowhere defined. PHASE FATALE Burning The Rural District LP
LP version. Burning The Rural District overcomes eight tracks of heavy rhythmics, cold sequences, and blue flame atmospheres related to experiencing a closed society. This energy is tied and twisted through a widescreen vision manifested in stressful breaks/d'n'b cut-ups, and the maddening dysmorphia of bent sequences and signature fuzzy bass guitar harkening back to NYC post-punk roots. Recorded over many years entirely in Tbilisi, Burning The Rural District is influenced by the emerging super strong techno scene thriving in Georgia, despite that there is a lingering homophobia outside of the vast club culture. This is a snapshot putting a different window on that time of displacement, newness and ultimately creation. lived vicariously and personally, in the aftermath of physical street violence among ex-soviet state impromptu warehouses, to the sudden suicide of an acquaintance, in the shadow of the orthodox church, an unlikely but singular uplifting freedom emerged from this very closure. "He died in the town where he was born." Cover art by Richard Ramirez.

L.U.C.A. Terra LP
Rome's own disco wizard L.U.C.A. aka Francesco De Bellis is back for his second LP Terra, hot on the heels of his Venus 12" EP earlier in 2022. In this far-reaching album, the Edizioni Mondo founder explores the deteriorating relationship between man and nature, and the dire consequences. The album is split into two themes -- part one is "Consacrazione (Consecration)" and side two is "Coscienza (Conscience)" -- as L.U.C.A. charts a trip through mankind's psychic universe, and imagines worlds beyond our physical dimension. The opening composition "Cities" is an up-tempo number that slowly comes into focus, as dreamy drum machines emerge from the urban bustle, before settling into a soulful groove as keyboard, upright bass and guitar figures dance across bright percussion. As it builds up a head of steam, the piece gives way to an ambient, tribal breakdown, which is also echoed in the following song, "Drum Talk". This second tune sets up in a fourth world dreamscape of drums, synths, and abstracted echo effects, and is peppered with word fragments from the bush of ghosts. By the time we've reached the third track, "Congiunzione" sounds like travelling at singularity speed, beaming in from a future where human consciousness and gaia can finally dance on a cosmic plain. Part two of Terra details how revelation of the spirit can guide the mind, as "Time Spirals" rises out of a drum motif with a nod to classic ragas, as a disembodied voice asks questions on the nature of corporeality. The sound design is just as front and center as the sitar and fretless bass, and the song gives way to a richly-layered soup that sounds like the vast space between atoms. It's this shift from composition to ambience that is the dynamic core of Terra, giving L.U.C.A. plenty of space to showcase his next-level audio and arranging skills. Midway through part two, "Giallo Assoluto" begins with reverb tails and choral voices before expanding in brightness and texture until the audio field is practically levitating your hi-fi speakers, vibrating them with drones, twinkling keys and shards of digital noise. The closing composition "Ritorno al Domani" is a perfect balance of optimism and mystery. Tension and release collapse in on themselves as waves of ambient pads crescendo and then break over stretched-out sonic turbulence, before reversed synths bring the listener to a closing door, and the end of the journey.

"The paths of Steve Potts and Jobic Le Masson have crossed frequently since the beginning of the 21st century, through collaborations with many artists. They have performed together regularly for the past ten years, namely in a quartet with John Betsch and Peter Giron. The album 'Song', released on the Enja label in 2016, offers a document of the current career of the quartet. 'Indispensable' in Jazz News and Jazz Hot, 'Oui!' for Culture Jazz, **** for Jazz Magazine... The lockdown was an advantageous opportunity for the duo to make researches 'like two scientists looking for a cure'. They concentrated themselves on developing a common language open to free improvisation and new compositions. The album Live at Console, recorded during the concert at the end of the rehearsals, demonstrates ample evidence of their incredible intimacy and complicity."

REICH/ENSEMBLE AVANTGARDE, STEVE Four Organs/Phase Patterns/Pendulum Music LP
2022 repress. Three early compositions (1968-1970) by Steve Reich, one of the most prolific exponents of minimal music, in stunning interpretations by the critically-acclaimed Ensemble Avantgarde. Available on vinyl for the first time ever. Steve Reich (born 1936) is undoubtedly one of the key figures in 20th century contemporary music, and along with Terry Riley or Philip Glass, one of the founding fathers of so-called minimal music. With classics like "18 Musicians," "Drumming," or "Different Trains," the American composer proved himself one of "a handful of living composers who can legitimately claim to have altered the direction of musical history" (The Guardian). The four pieces on this collection date back to the time before his famous masterpieces (1967-1970): "Four Organs" and "Phase Patterns" build on short, repeated patterns that gradually go in and out of phase with each other, creating "a shimmering matrix of sound that is both hypnotic and fascinating in detail" (Allmusic.com) and anticipate Reich's later trademark sound. "Pendulum Music" is a process piece where only a few starting parameters are given: four microphones are suspended within an array of amplifiers and speakers, then set in motion -- the shifts in feedback as they move in space create the music, and the results differ with each new performance (as can be experienced listening to the two versions here). Reich's early works are presented on this LP in stunning interpretations by Leipzig-based Ensemble Avantgarde, whose dedicated, inspired renditions of essential masterpieces of modernism (documented on CDs on reputed labels such as Wergo or Hat Hut Records) won them the Ernst von Siemens Foundation Prize and the Schneider-Schott Prize of Mainz. 180 gram, gatefold sleeve, download code. Ensemble Avantgarde: Steffen Schleiermacher (organ, piano, electronics), Josef Christof (organ, piano), Michael Obst (organ), Klaus Steffes-Holländer (organ), Stefan Stopora (maracas), and Martin Demmler (electronics).

KASPAR, JONATHAN Umfang EP 12"
New great four-tracker EP by Jonathan Kaspar. Renowned German artist Jonathan Kaspar will make an eagerly-awaited return to Kompakt next month via his Umfang EP, with the four-track offering acting as his first full-length solo release on the label since March 2021. "My third Kompakt EP feels particularly special as it is the first time I'm releasing on my home label with dancefloors being open again. The result is four different tracks producing four different vibes, each of which transport my pandemic desires into today's world." --Jonathan Kaspar The title track leads the way, taking the form of a retro-leaning cut that features whirring synth stabs throughout. "Kupfer" comes next, a track packed full of emotive chords and a delicate underlying bassline, before "Am Raster" leads us to the dancefloor and beyond courtesy of minimal-laced kick patterns. "Gemach, Gemach Herr Rabe" ends proceedings on an incandescent note, as symphonic keys combine with intermittent crow samples to form a slice of wholesome, nature-inspired musical bliss. Hailing from Bonn, Germany, Jonathan Kaspar is an integral part of the scene in Cologne. He is a resident at the city's renowned Gewölbe club and also one of the current main figures at the legendary Kompakt label. His discography boasts releases on some of contemporary dance music's most esteemed labels, including Innervisions, Cocoon Recordings, and Crosstown Rebels to name a few, whilst performances at Watergate (Berlin), NDSM (Amsterdam) and Extrema Festival (Hasselt) have brought his sound to global audiences. The Umfang EP proves exactly why he has become one of Germany's most exciting prospects in recent times and with a highlight year ahead, the future certainly shines bright for Jonathan.

Lantern Rec. presents a reissue of Nico's The Drama Of Exile, originally released in 1983. After the 1974 release of The End -- the magnetic and controversial Warhol muse went on a fruitful partnership with French director Philippe Garrel, for almost seven films. Back in New York in 1979 she started to perform again live, appearing firstly at the CBGB with John Cale and musical partner Lutz Ulbrich (former guitarist of Agitation Free and Ash Ra Tempel). Back in France, she met young and talented Corsican bassist Philippe Quilichini who produced her comeback, The Drama Of Exile, in 1981. The album was released twice, in two different versions. Hereby Lantern Rec. present the second, appearing in 1983, after a legal controversy was settled with Aura Records that released the first issue. While the first press was a nine-track offering, this second issue excludes "Purple Lips" but adds the tracks "Saeta" and "Vegas" released on a 7" single in 1981. For this album, Nico recorded covers of the Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting for the Man" and David Bowie's "Heroes". Fully remastered and licensed. 180 gram vinyl.

CIPRIANI, STELVIO Sono Stato Un Agente CIA LP
Sono Stato Un Agente CIA (1978), also known as Covert Action, is a twilight film directed by Romolo Guerrieri and set in Greece, starring David Janssen, in the role of a former Central Intelligence Agency agent who became a writer of incendiary books on prostitution and drug trafficking, flanked by Maurizio Merli, a colleague in possession of some compromising tapes, sentimentally linked to the romance novel character played by the seductive Corinne Cle?ry. The two are involved in a murky game: the stars and stripes secret services intend to eliminate those who could spread the dangerous content of the military plan designed to stem the advance of communism, to be implemented through the assassination of government officials. It's not among the most famous crime stories. It's not even a real action movie. Sono Stato Un Agente CIA benefits, however, from the admirable compositional talent of Stelvio Cipriani. His soundtrack, released for the first time in full vinyl version, reveals an unpredictable versatility. His "classic" style expressed in the course of the scores for previous "poliziotteschi" is enriched here with disco suggestions and Hellenic exoticisms. The writing on the staff of the Roman composer is effective and empathetic in commenting on every fold of the dark and violent story. A simple and catchy theme, even danceable. The atmospheric situations with guitars and synthesizers. Some funk echoes, tension peaks, melancholy notes. The constants of success.

KARIJORD & JON EKSTRAND, REBEKKA I Am Greta LP
Reduced price, last copies; First pressing on red vinyl, exclusive for the USA. Unique composer duo Rebekka Karijord and Jon Ekstrand create compelling, hybrid score to intimate portrait of teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. I Am Greta, the intimate Hulu documentary by Swedish director Nathan Grossman, tells the story of teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg through compelling, never-before-seen-footage. Starting with her one-person school strike for climate action outside the Swedish Parliament, Grossman follows Greta in her rise to prominence. The film culminates with the extraordinary wind-powered voyage across the Atlantic to speak at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York. To musically accompany Greta and the children of the Fridays for Future movement on their journey, composers Rebekka Karijord and Jon Ekstrand spent time searching for the right balance when it comes to how much emotional triggers the music should offer: "With the music for I Am Greta, we aimed to find a sonic counterpoint to the friction between the shy, contemplative inner world of Greta, and the unbounded energy of the natural world and climate change movement. From the start we found it useful to separate the score into three distinct voices: Greta's Voice, the voice of the natural world, and the voice of the climate change movement. We choose to work with repetition and persistent musical patterns, often illustrated through energetic string arpeggios. This we felt helped underline the remarkable persistence and focus of Greta has on the climate issue, as well as that of the relentless-ness of nature. Then we found a few places throughout the score, where more melodic aspects could be introduced and carry the story through its dramaturgical journey. It allowed the melodic aspects to shine through when they are introduced. The score consists of a string octet, modular synthesizers and a voice instrument built by Rebekka of 25 unique singers sampled in their full range. Our soloist on the soundtrack is the cellist Linnea Olsson, whom has a very specific airy and organic tone." "Rebekka and Jon's dynamic score to I Am Greta is huge and intimate, uplifting and melancholic, and manages to carry the emotional nuance of Greta's story. The score forms a musical parallel to Greta's journey and narrative voice throughout the film. It's energy, urgency and emotional depth reminds us that the time for climate action is now." --Nathan Grossman, director. Records made of 100% recycled PVC vinyl. GORDON, ISA For You Only LP
JD Twitch of Optimo Music: "When Isa Gordon sent the demo of this album to me, I knew I wanted to release it before I had got half way through it. I had previously released her super good Resili collaborative project but I wasn't quite prepared for how good this was going to be. Isa is patently a once in a blue moon talent and I feel honored to help get her unique, visionary sounds out into the world. This is next level programming and sound design but always with soul, and musicality. Sui generis."Isa says: "For you only came about in the lockdown winter in 2020. I started seeing a lot of beats and motifs that I'd been working on working together as a collection and spent a few months compiling, completing, mixing, and weaving together the tracks into a coherent album. It was many nights tucked away entering the wormholes of making music and trying to honor the emotion contained in each song by expanding the sentiments within them into complete pieces, chasing down the journey in each one. It was a very personal, solitary exploration of how I interpret and compose instrumentals, with the rare global situation inhibiting outsider contact and influence. I include a mix of tempos, styles, and freely combine digital and live instruments in order to serve whatever intention or feeling needs to be heard."Isa is an Ayrshire bred, Glasgow based producer and singer. Impressed upon by myriad styles; Singing folk music since a youngster, playing guitar since a teen, producing electronic music thereafter. Now freely cherry-picking whatever sounds, instruments, words and methods serve the feeling. Exploring solitary beat making as Isa Gordon and singing and writing heartfelt lyrical ditties with her band Fantasy Land.

HASNI, CHEB Volumes 1-2-3 3LP BOX
Triple-LP box set with A4 insert with liner notes and three large postcards; each LP on separate color vinyl, yellow/blue/red, exclusive to boxset; edition of 300. Raï is the music of a youth hungover from Algeria's recent independence. It became a space for a liberated, transgressive dialogue that told the social truths of its time -- an up-front yet poetic voice that covers the taboos and frustrations of daily life, expressing emotion without detour. This voice is heard at weddings, cabarets, in the nightclubs of the Oranese coast, and casually on the street... With the boom of the audio cassette, an avalanche of raï tapes were produced in Oran and diffused all over the world. Both women and men sang and listened to the new sound, as raï is intimately tied to parties, alcohol and the night. With the spontaneous improvisation of its singers as the main part of each song, raï keeps reinventing itself. In this style, Cheb Hasni, along with Cheb Nasro, incarnates a second generation of musicians. With the "love raï", or sentimental raï, Hasni sings about love, passion and its setbacks -- moving away from the bittersweet daily chronicles of the first chebs and chebates. Having recorded nearly 150 cassettes, Cheb Hasni remains one of the most prolific and talented raï singers of his generation. Almost thirty years after his death, this three-volume compilation of rare tracks from his cassette releases on the Oriental Music Production label is a tribute to the lasting legacy of Cheb Hasni -- ya raï!

KOTTIS, THEO On Your Mind EP 12"
Fresh from delivering standout performances at Berlin's renowned Panorama Bar and Amsterdam's DGTL, Theo Kottis presents his first solo release on Permanent Vacation, the sparkling On Your Mind EP. The creation of the six tracks on On Your Mind EP, provided moments of escapism for Theo Kottis, during the depths of lockdown 2020. His nods to synth pop and Italo fun, inspired by bands of the new wave era, are intended to bestow upon the listener those same blissed out moments. There's more to these tracks than meets the ear, particularly stand out "On Your Mind", the product of relentless pursuit. For Theo, the collaboration with Permanent Vacation was long awaited and is a memorable mark within his thriving career. Theo Kottis said: "Thrilled to finally share these tracks, I worked on them two years ago and was fortunate enough to find them a home at Permanent Vacation, which has long been one of the labels I've admired most. As these tracks were a solo lockdown project, I've loved collaborating with PV on the release -- particularly the creation of the vinyl. Next up -- I can't wait to play them out IRL in parties this summer."

FUCHS/PAUL FUCHS/FRIEDRICH GULDA, LIMPE It's Up To You 2LP
Reissue, originally released in 1974 on Preiser Records. Gatefold sleeve. Free music is free. It is the opposite of traditional, conventional music bound by various rules or by any kind of metric, tonal, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic, social or other system, as well as music that is beholden, restricted, schooled or unfree. In short, it's the opposite of any music we've known before. In free music, every rule that's ever existed in unfree music is rejected. Likewise, all existing notions about how music should or should not be, what its purpose must or cannot be and so on. Free music comes from the unconscious, an original source from within the self. It is by placing trust in players and listeners that we liberate them. The individual's pride, fears, inhibitions and aggression resist this act of liberation. But if they yield to it, whether as a player or listener, they discover something shockingly new and unheard. They feel like they've suddenly been transported from their familiar, oppressive surroundings into a glorious flower meadow. What's happened? They've simply returned home, to the realm of ordinary wonder, and to their own soul. With happiness and gratitude, they rediscover how to connect with their soul to move, live and laugh. They also learn that they can communicate musically with anyone, perhaps even with any creature. It transpires the styles, traditions, conventions and languages which were developed to enable communication are actually great impediments to it. Having decided to discard them, communication immediately becomes freer. Until now, there have been very few players who comprehend free music in a profound sense and who are able to create it. But it's likely that their numbers will quickly grow, and free music will soon become widespread. There's a clear need for it. Artists include: Limpe Fuchs, Paul Fuchs, Friedrich Gulda featuring Albert Mangelsdorff, Barre Phillips, Munir Bashir, Gerhard Herrmann, Leszek Zadlo, Ursula Anders.

DJ MARCELLE/ANOTHER NICE MESS DJ Marcelle: The Musical LP
Tina Turner. Princess Diana. Johan Cruijff. Jesus. Abba. Spider-Man. Jerry Springer. Mormons. A brothel. Monty Python. A gay remake of Shakespeare. Anne Frank. Nothing and no-one seems to be able to escape the fangs of the musical industry. So it's no real surprise that the last woman standing, DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess, has also fallen victim to this evil fate. The album, after 2021's Explain The Food, Bitte (PL 113LP) her second release with Berlin label Play Loud! Productions, is as surprising and up-to-date as ever. Marcelle's productions come into existence quite quickly, like sketches capturing a moment. Take, for example, "The Quarantine House Party Try-Out", a bouncy track dealing with those illegal parties people organized in their own homes during the covid period. With the pandemic now hopefully over, the DJ/producer travels the world again. Marcelle deals with this in "Soups On Tour", related to a link on her website where she documents all soups she eats on the road (and in restaurants). It's this individual approach to her creative process that gives her artistic fulfillment; her DIY attitude is inherent to everything she does and is reflected in her creative process as a whole, from the music itself to how it is presented: on the sleeve of DJ Marcelle: The Musical you see her literally "dropping" a musical. The freedom she grants herself is essential, she never had the difficulty of coping with certain expectations or being stuck with a certain perceived musical (ha!) profile, because she has always been able to make sure people didn't have any anticipation of where her music (and DJ-sets) would go in the first place. So it's no real surprise that, following danceable tracks like "Voted Best DJ School (25% Off)" and weird album opener/warning "This Record Is Scratched" on side A, we get only one track on side B: the 17-minute-plus technoid stomper "Smacznego!" (Polish for "enjoy your meal"). It's a hypnotic, continually shifting track which, even when it ends after such a long time, leaves you hungry for more. The hilarious promo video of the song hopefully satisfies this appetite. So now you have DJ Marcelle also being exploited as a musical. There is one consolation, though: DJ Marcelle: The Musical happens to be the first instrumental musical in the world.

VA Love, Peace & Poetry - Chilean Psychedelic Music LP
Limited 2022 restock; LP glossy gatefold heavy sleeve; 180 gram pressing. The Love, Peace & Poetry series from QDK continues in Chile, with 17 tracks culled from some of the lost treasures of the psychedelic music scene of the 7-year period between 1967-1973. In 1973, the Chilean dictatorship banned most rock bands and most musicians had to stop or leave the country, or take it underground. The ban extended to the retroactive destruction of many master tapes for many of the albums included here, which only just stopped as recently as the 1980s. Kissing Spell represents with "Yellow Moon" taken from their 1970 album Los Pajaros, as well as Embrujo who released their self-titled LP in 1971. Los Jaivas' debut LP was pressed privately in 1971 in a small edition of 500 copies, making this track extra-rare. Los Vidrios Quebrados were one of the real South American psychedelic classics -- their Byrds-like jangle-pop coming through clearly on their track. Aguaturbia were pioneers of psychedelic rock in Latin America, who also generated considerable controversy over their album covers. Los Blops released three now very rare and very sought-after LPs between 1970 and 1973, and their sound was focused on their guitarist's electric 12-string guitar (an unusual instrument in Chile at the time). Sacros were among the first electric folk-rock bands to perform during Catholic mass -- their recording was almost destroyed by the military and only a handful of copies survived. Los Macs' 1967 masterwork, Kaleidoscope Men, is rightfully considered by many collectors to be one of the finest examples of '60s psychedelia from South America and original copies are impossibly rare. Los Beat 4 was one of the most successful groups of the national scene in the mid-'60s and both of their rare LPs are represented here. Tumulto was respected for being non-commercial, and their track is taken from their rare debut album. Escombros released their sole LP in 1970 and are a gem in the psychedelic progressive folk style. Congregación released their sole LP on the IRT label in 1972, and El Congresso's sound is the result of a unique blend of contemporary elements and Andean roots. Chilean psychedelic music was produced during a time of great cultural change and social turmoil and is exceedingly rare and very special.

RANKING TOYAN Ghetto Man Skank LP
Radiation Records present a reissue of Ranking Toyan's Ghetto Man Skank, originally released in 1983. By the time Ghetto Man Skank appeared on Jah Thomas's Midnight Rock imprint in 1983, Ranking Toyan was already a seasoned veteran of Kingston's soundclash scene, having apprenticed with a number of smaller outfits before becoming earning a slot with Henry "Junjo" Lawes's Volcano Sound and winning widespread acclaim for his effortless, patois-laden delivery and his gruff putdowns of rival DJs. Though Toyan had already cut a number of outstanding sides for producer Don Mais, his collaborations with Lawes are undoubtedly his definitive recordings. Ghetto Man Skank stands as the very best of these. It boasts a set of simple, punishingly hard rhythms from the ace studio band The Roots Radics, which Toyan dominates with ease. His ability to spill forth unending streams of wordplay, streetcorner boasts, and infectious slogans is truly remarkable, enlivening every song on this set. Though Toyan didn't receive the same acclaim as fellow Volcano Sound DJs like Yellowman and Eek-A-Mouse, his outstanding performances on Ghetto Man Skank prove he was their equal in every respect.

ATOM TM Neuer Mensch CD
Brilliant new album by AtomTM -- After 3 (R-M 189CD/LP, 2020) comes the Neuer Mensch. The continuously edited, autonomous piece of code as which AtomTM defines itself enters the hot state of flow. Neuer Mensch (New Human) is the relentless, visceral expression of metamorphosis. A projection of the metahuman horizon, an exercise in shedding the exoskeleton. Dead tissue is being torn off in radical body movements. Dead ideas are crushed by feet, dancing the dance of brutal elegance. Somatic exorcism via hyper realistic surfaces of binary noise. Physicality. Unseen geometries dressed in the most basic of rhythmic patterns -- simple structures of hidden symmetries. The false promise of linear progress as it shatters, hitting the barrier of sound. Familiar vocal fragments speak to us in foreign tongues, languages still to be invented. Indecipherable messages from another species -- future faux amis. The seductive spell of artificiality and its inherent promise of tomorrow's bliss. A soundtrack for all of you hi-tech vagabonds, you godless drifters, deprived of past and present. [text generated by x1n]

TUMULT HANDS TH 2x12"
The Tumult Hands duet is made by Jacek Sienkiewicz and Jerzy Przezdziecki. The producers whose composition has -- to a large extent -- defined the Polish techno music. Sienkiewicz -- as early as Recognition -- started his adventure with music in the late 1990s. Subsequent records, already under his own name, were released, among others, at Cocoon Records, Trapez, Klang Elektronik, and WMFRec. Przezdziecki started publishing a little later. Over the last two decades, he has been presenting various types of electronic music, among others, as Praecox, Epi Centrum, and Jurek Przezdziecki. Tumult Hands has two EPs on its account -- Tumult Hands EP (2014) and Tropic Factory (2016). Both were published by Recognition. A full record was a matter of time. The album titled TH has been prepared for many years. The repertoire was created mainly out of improvisation. As artists themselves say, "it is the result of discovering and accepting a chance event." For both producers, close contact with instruments was important during their composition; the type of interaction between the maker and an electronic device. Individual works have been maturing for a long time. Paradoxically -- the lapse of time did not cause them to be ageing but vice versa -- allowed them to mature and gain natural weight. TH brings very diverse music. In part, it is the repayment of the debt that Sienkiewicz and Przezdziecki incurred towards the most creative techno period, that is, the '90s of the 20th century. The lovers of experimental dance music from before the quarter of the century will easily capture in the duo's themes the art of Cristian Vogel, producers known from the tin series of Chain Reaction record company, or early recordings of Richie Hawtin (Plastikman, F.U.S.E.) This is a very similar, non-standard approach to sound structure and an original approach to rhythmic structures. Minimalist melodies, accompanying, e.g. the opening of the "enter TH" or "pow" set, contribute to the composition an element of some sublimity and metaphysical anxiety. Obviously, it is still the dance music but the duet -- to some extent by abandoning the club functionality (understood in the techno convention) -- has given its music a definitely sophisticated, artistic elegance. Turquoise and black vinyl.

HENRY COW Concerts 2LP
Reissue, originally released in 1976 and reissue in 2012. This collection offers a snapshot of Henry Cow as audiences would have heard it in the year before. In the chronology, Concerts came between In Praise of Learning (1975) and Western Culture (1978) -- that is, after Virgin had lost interest in releasing any more Henry Cow studio records and before the band quit to make one of its own. It was also the year of the "merger" with Robert Wyatt for a series of concerts in which compositions were shared -- the last show, in Rome, was also Robert's last public performance. From its earlier records, the band was known for its rather complex compositional work. This double-LP for the first time gave serious space to the improvisations that accounted for maybe a third of any of its lengthy stage performances.

CRUZ, NICOLA Self Oscillation 12"
Self Oscillation is made up of five club-ready psychedelic workouts swaying with natural momentum, from Ecuadorian superstar Nicola Cruz, who makes his second appearance on London's Rhythm Section INTL. The internationally renowned producer, Nicola Cruz, has been instrumental in pioneering the sound of Andean music over the last decade. Born and raised in Ecuador, Nicola has found his own unique way to tap into Latin America's illustrious musical past to create something utterly contemporary. His previous projects have had the four elements running through as major themes: Fire and lava erupted during his sophomore album, Siku, with an Ecuadorian volcano doubling up as a recording space. And now, with his second Rhythm Section release, you are met with sounds of flowing water that Nicola describes as "aqueous explorations". On this EP, Self Oscillation, Nicola Cruz fuses experimental production techniques with underwater, bass-heavy constructions. Moods change like the tides; from euphoric highs with acid riffs and Latin drum patterns, the music quickly dives to moody submarine basslines and dark, frenetic rhythms. Self Oscillation sees Nicola's production move to new heights as he expertly bridges the gap between natural and mechanical sounds. With the help of iconic '80s and '90s synths and the retro colors of a Roland Space Echo, his newest work is a hybrid of electronic dance music and a synaesthetic image of nature. In the spirit of his previous EP on Rhythm Section INTL, Self Oscillation showcases the synergy -- or rather ongoing battle between the organic and inorganic, the analog and digital, civilization confronted and confounded by nature. It's within this dichotomy that Cruz revels, and manages to say so much, without words.

VA Front EP Compilation 12"
After the happily received and critically acclaimed Running Back Mastermix retrospective of Hamburg's seminal Front club by Klaus Stockhausen & Boris Dlugosch, another look at the playlists, hits, classics, and unclassics is overdue. Now, the menu is solely set to the nineties -- well after Stockhausen's departure and into Dlugosch's prime at said club. Starting the dance is the sought-after evergreen "Deep Introspection". Produced by Rob Mello and Zaki Dee for the legendary Jump Cutz series on their Luxury Service outfit in 1995, it's as ageless as deep house can be and on heavy rotation since its release. Same goes for "Agitate It" by Body Moods from 1993. Still an insider tip, and touched by the hands of Jazz-N-Groove it wouldn't sound out of place on a Louie Vega tape from that time. The flip comes with DJ Disciple's Street Experience from 1993 and its Todd Terry-esque "Hide-A-Way". Snare roll, please. Rounding off with two home made co-productions by Boris Dlugosch himself: the remix for U96's "Come Together" (yes, the one from the submarine-movie-score-sampling techno chart topper "Das Boot") and his exclusive edit for VDT "Strangest Music". Both proofing the fact that to what seems odd at the beginning (if classic US house is the indicator), can withstand the test of time and even gradually mature. Collector, progammer, dancer, and DJ use only. Also features Sensory Productions. To be continued...

Remastered here from its original release (previously digital only), Gainer is now available for the first time on vinyl in plush packaging including UV spot gloss 'invisible ink'-style jacket printing. Gainer is rumored to be the first record in a series of collaborative albums by Lattimore and Growing. Based on the premiere statement at hand, let's hope it shall be so!"

FOX, TERRY Audioworks LP
Last copies, reduced price. Song Cycle Records present a reissue of Terry Fox's Audio Works, originally released in 1983. Terry Fox (1943, Seattle-2008, Cologne) was one of the leading pioneers of American body art and conceptual art. He became famous in the '70s with performances and installations, which took their point of origin in the transformative processes of materials, and in which he used his own body as a medium for exploring often extreme psychological and physical experiences. With his lifelong exploration of sound and space, Terry Fox was also one of the pioneers of contemporary sound art. Terry Fox belongs to those artists of the '60s and '70s who radically rejected traditional art forms and sought new forms of artistic expressions. In numerous installations, performances, and street events he directed attention to everyday phenomena and aspects of social existence. He researched unknown or little regarded aspects of energy in substances and materials, most especially sound and vibration. Since the '80s Terry Fox composed objects, language, acoustic, and process-oriented events into multilayered images in space and time. In his later years, quiet sounds at the limit of audibility became more and more prominent. This collection of Terry Fox's AudioWorks was published in 1983, during the time he lived in Florence, by Maurizio Nannucci in the Recorthings series of audio cassettes on the Exit & Exempla label. Recorthings is a record label linked to the activities of Zona non-profit art space (1974/1985) and to the broadcasting program Zonaradio (1981/1983).

ORMI E LA SUA ORCHESTRA, PAOLO P.O.X. Sound LP
Sonor Music Editions team was able to rescue from oblivion the lost tapes of this incredible recording, composed and orchestrated by the great Italian arranger and pianist Paolo Ormi. Originally conceived in 1972 at RCA studios in Rome, the album has been never officially released on any commercial/physical format until now. A promo Stereo-8 was only issued at the time on a ridiculous run, and only distributed for non-commercial purposes among the TV circuits. P.O.X. Sound is a really special Latin-funk banger that anticipates P.O.X. Sound Vol. 2 LP, issued in 1973, and clearly shows maestro Ormi's strong Latin-influenced take on music with tones of groovy Latin jazz, exciting breaks and hot Latin funk groovers. A fabulous album from start to finish and another lost gem of the 1970s Italian music scene rediscovered.

WILEN, BARNEY Moshi 2LP/DVD
2022 restock. Deluxe remastered reissue of Barney Wilen's 1972 album Moshi, featuring additional artwork and a 20-page booklet of rare pictures, sheet music, and the original liner notes. Includes a bonus DVD (packaged with exclusive artwork) of Caroline de Bendern's 1971 film à l'intention de Mlle Issoufou à Bilma, documenting this amazing African journey. "In 1970 Barney Wilen assembled a team of filmmakers, technicians, and musicians to travel to Africa for the purpose of recording the music of the native pygmy tribes. Upon returning to Paris two years later, he created Moshi, a dark, eccentric effort fusing avant jazz sensibilities with African rhythms, ambient sound effects, and melodies rooted in American blues traditions. Cut with French and African players including guitarist Pierre Chaze, pianist Michel Graillier, and percussionist Didier Leon, this is music with few precedents or followers, spanning from extraterrestrial dissonance to earthbound, street-legal funk. Wilen pays little heed to conventional structure, assembling tracks like 'Afrika Freak Out' and 'Zombizar' from spare parts of indeterminate origins." --Jason Ankeny, AllMusic

TUSQUES, FRANCOIS Piano Dazibao LP
Reissue of François Tusques's Piano Dazibao, originally released in 1970. To avoid the "Quésaco?" on the sleeve of Piano Dazibao, François Tusques explains everything: "A wall mural on which the Red Guard expressed their opinions during the Chinese proletarian cultural revolution. So much for the 'Dazibao', very good; but the piano in all that?" The piano, François Tusques was self-taught and his work was influenced by Jelly Roll Morton and Earl Hines before discovering Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, and then... free jazz. In Paris in 1965, Tusques mixed with Michel Portal, François Jeanneau, Jean-François Jenny-Clark, Aldo Romano, or Jacques Thollot. He also met Don Cherry and above all recorded, with other like-minded Frenchmen (Portal and Jeanneau alongside Bernard Vitet, Beb Guérin, and Charles Saudrais), the first album of free jazz in France, named... Free Jazz. In 1967, Tusques again served up Le Nouveau Jazz, this time in the company of Barney Wilen (and Guérin, Jenny-Clark, Romano). Three years later his thirst for freedom led him to isolation; between May and September 1970, the pianist recorded, at his home, the first of two albums that he would release on Futura Records: Piano Dazibao and Dazibao N°2 (FFL 074LP). Under the influence of Mao and Lewis Carroll, the free spirit roamed and composed seven tracks which are not so much free as libertarian. As an homage to some friends (Don Cherry, Sunny Murray, Archie Shepp, Clifford Thornton but also Colette Magny, Michel Le Bris or the Théâtre du Chêne Noir), the pianist played cascading bouquets of notes, free-form wanderings, blues-ambushed dances, growls, discords, a fatal requiem... A cherished freedom, songs of hope and demands, François Tusques offers the most unrelenting of independent records. Licensed from Futura / Marge. Carefully remastered from the master tapes. 180 gram vinyl.

TUSQUES, FRANCOIS Dazibao n2 LP
Reissue of François Tusques's Dazibao n°2, originally released in 1971. This was of course not the first time that François Tusques was a "headline act". In 1965, he recorded, with other like-minded Frenchmen (François Jeanneau, Michel Portal, Bernard Vitet, Beb Guérin, and Charles Saudrais), the first album of free jazz in France, named... Free Jazz. In 1967, Tusques again served up Le Nouveau Jazz, in the company of Barney Wilen (and Beb Guérin, Jean-François Jenny-Clark, and Aldo Romano). Three years later, between May and September 1970, the pianist recorded, at his home, Piano Dazibao (FFL 073LP), an album on which he multiplied joyful escapades as a critical iconoclast. The following year Tusques recorded Dazibao N°2, which shows him as an incisive commentator of his times. Following in the footsteps of Don Cherry, who he had met a few years earlier in Paris, Tusques made a plea for "friendship between all the peoples of the world" to the sound of Universalist hymns which transported us from Africa to Asia. But it is really a song to America, evoking the assassination of the activist George Jackson and the mutiny in Attica prison, before covering "Seize the Time" by Elaine Brown -- three years after the release of Dazibao N°2, she became the first (and only) woman to lead the Black Panther Party. The turmoil of Piano Dazibao, was opposed, on Dazibao N°2, by long, labyrinthine tracks with alternating discords and repetitions. Often using prepared piano, Tusques was more percussive (even heady) than ever, exposing a melody with solid hammer strikes or painting an image which radiated peace in spite of the storms. Piano Dazibao and Dazibao N°2 thus form the two sides of one coin, which displays the effigy of François Tusques, an international national monument. Licensed from Futura / Marge. Carefully remastered from the master tapes. 180 gram vinyl.

WOODS, CAROL Out Of The Woods LP
Soulgramma present a reissue of Carol Woods's Out Of The Woods, originally released in 1971. Carol Woods was born in Jamaica, New York in 1943. She was deeply influenced by her grandfather, a Pentecostal minister, and her mother Marion Jones, which led her to become lead singer with the local church choir. A necessary soulful album long out of print. Recorded in London and published on Ember (British label formed in the early 1960s by club owner and promoter Jeffrey S. Kruger, owner of the Flamingo Club, London) in 1971, Out Of The Woods is still a shiny gem on its own. The four tracks on her singles were included and the rhythm section backing tracks for the remainder were put down by Beau Ray Fleming (well known for his studio work with Mandrill) in New York. Ember's producer, Mike Berry, then added Carol's vocals and the horn section. Woods's vocals are full and rich and the record has a sort of post-Supremes vibe with an obvious seventies approach. Since that time Carol has found success in stage musicals, such as One Mo Time where she took over the role of Big Bertha Williams, the hard drinking vaudeville star. She has also appeared in movies, including Eddie Murphy Raw (1987) where she played Eddie's aunt. Fully licensed. 180 gram vinyl.

VA Punk And Disorderly Volume 1 LP
New vinyl editions of the three legendary Punk And Disorderly compilations originally released between 1982 and 1983. At the dawn of the eighties the first volume arrived as a fiery statement from the heart of the British punk scene. Back in the day, the glorious early punk energy was still alive and, in the meantime, transforming through a wave of new bands coming up with fresh ideas and attitudes. Thanks to a great selection of both originators and newcomers, the whole explosive energy that was at the core of punk movement is perfectly captured throughout these three landmark compilations. An incredible roster of bands such as Vice Squad, Blitz, Chaos UK, Anti-Nowhere League, Vibrators, Angelic Upstarts... all original British punk acts except the San Francisco based Dead Kennedys represented here with their seminal hit "Kill The Poor". This is fierce, loud, and raw music caught in the midst of transition between punk rock and its next "hardcore" evolution. All three volumes feature brand new track lists including bonus tracks not available in the first editions. Volume 1 features Vice Squad, Disorder, Peter And The Test Tube Babies, Red Alert, Blitz, Dead Kennedys, The Partisans, The Insane, Abrasive Wheels, Chaos UK, Outcasts, Anti-Nowhere League, The Defects, and Special Duties.

999 The Biggest Tour In Sport LP
Spittle Records present a reissue of 999's The Biggest Tour In Sport, originally released in 1980. Formed in London in 1976, at the dawn of punk explosion, and still going strong to this day, 999 are one of UK's finest punk-rock bands of all-time, and certainly one of the longest-lived ones on the scene. Intended to capture the band on their extensive 1980 US tour, producer Vic Maile was flown to NYC to record a show in Long Island. Unfortunately, the tapes supplied didn't fit the recording unit and so in order to save the already scheduled release, recordings from an earlier London gig were used instead! First released in the US in November 1980, The Biggest Tour In Sport consists of six songs capturing the band's live excitement in performing several of their hits such as "Homicide", "Emergency", and "Feeling Alright with Crew".

NONAKA, EIKI A-Key LP
Once again Studio Mule dives deep into the music history of Japan, unearthing the multi-colored album A-Key by Eiki Nonaka, released as CD only on the short-lived Japanese label Sun & Moon Records in 1995. An album, that uniquely unifies global ethnic music styles, the playfulness of jazz, innovative electronic soundscapes, and the winding personality of spiritual music. It's the only solo album of a musician that has influenced the advancement of electronic Japanese music culture since the early 1980s. Eiki Nonaka was part of electronic new age quartet Interiors releasing the two minimalistic, synth-pop leaning albums: Interior (1982) and Design (1987). Likewise, he was a member of Haruomi Hosono's band Friends Of Earth, playing, voicing, and tuning the drum machine, guitar, synthesizers, and microphone on their second landmark experimental, pop electronic album Sex, Energy and Star, released Hosono's outstanding Non-Standard label in 1986. His one-and-only solo album A-Key features the essence of all his musical journeys until 1995, bringing, as he puts it on his blog: "all my musical career up to that point designed in sounds that were ringing in my head at that time. It's extremely introspective, but the various mental landscapes of that time are still vibrating fresh and acoustically new."

In 1978 he studied music composition in Jakarta Institute of Arts under guidance of Slamet Abdul Sjukur. TAM, PHUONG Magical Nights: Saigon Surf, Twist & Soul (1964-1966) 2LP
Sublime Frequencies present the first ever retrospective of Ph??ng Tâm, the groundbreaking Saigon teenager who became one of the first singers to perform and record rock and roll in 1960s Vietnam. By chance in early 2020, Hannah Hà (USA) learned that her mother, Ph??ng Tâm, had once been a famous young singer, performer and recording artist at the heart of Saigon's music scene in the early 1960s. The family had heard some mention of their mom as a singer at the time, but the extent of her legacy and the many songs she had recorded came as a big surprise. Further investigations soon led Hannah to producer Mark Gergis, compiler of Saigon Rock and Soul (SF 060CD, 2010), enlisting him to join her on a journey of discovery and recovery. The result is this essential document of Ph??ng Tâm's brief but prolific career, and at the same time, reuniting the long-lost music with its singer. The unique strengths and qualities of Ph??ng Tâm's voice, coupled with her commanding stage presence, had swiftly elevated her to top billings on Saigon's nightclub stages. Parallel to the brutality and uncertainty of an already protracted war, South Vietnam's music and recording industry were developing at a rapid pace in the early 1960s. Globally, musical trends with wild, ephemeral dance crazes were being thought up weekly; the twist, hully gully, the mashed potato -- none of them a problem for Ph??ng Tâm. She soon caught the attention of Saigon's leading recording companies and composers (Y Vân, Khánh B?ng, Tr??ng H?i, Thanh S?n, Y V? and M?c Th? Nhân, among others). Her energy translated unsurprisingly well in the studio, backed by electric guitars, contrabass, drums, lush brass sections, saxophone, piano, organ and rich backing vocals. Between 1964-1966, Ph??ng Tâm would record almost 30 known tracks, released by the three main record companies in Saigon. The teenage starlet became a vital centerpiece of pop music of the time, and one of the very first singers to perform and record rock and roll (known locally as nh?c kích ??ng, or, action music) -- though as you'll hear, she could also transform a jazz ballad into something otherworldly. While these musical styles were undeniably influenced by contemporary trends worldwide, the musicians and composers worked to localize the sounds, incorporating linguistic adaptations, lyrical content and past artistic traditions into something all their own. In 1966, as Saigon's music scene continued to evolve and escalate, Ph??ng Tâm walked away from her singing career without looking back -- marrying the man she loved and beginning the next rich chapter of her life. But her recorded output had laid the stylistic groundwork for the following generations of singers, and many of the songs she first sang would later be further popularized by others. Her impactful, but short-spanning career has seen her legacy remain historically understated until now. Due to the lack of master tapes or documentation from pre-1975 Vietnam, and the scarcity of records and tapes that had survived the war, it was difficult to grasp the extent of Ph??ng Tâm's discography. A collective effort was required in sourcing materials and information to compile this record, involving key collectors and producers internationally (Jan Hagenkötter, C??ng Ph?m, Adam Fargason, Khoa Hà -- granddaughter of composer Y Vân, and researcher Jason Gibbs). As the veils of history were slowly lifted, the genuine thrill was witnessing Ph??ng Tâm herself, hearing these songs for the first time in over 50 years -- sometimes since the day she recorded them. At the heart of this project is a family story -- Hannah Hà's dedication to recovering and sharing her mother's musical legacy is helping put Ph??ng Tâm back on center stage after 55 years. But it is also a story that adds critical context to the fragmented understanding of Vietnamese popular culture during the 20th century, particularly after so much has been lost to war and dislocation. The album features 25 tracks, restored and remastered from original records and reel tapes. Deluxe double LP release comes with two 14-page booklets in English and Vietnamese, featuring extensive liner notes by Hannah Hà and Mark Gergis, exclusive photos, album and sheet music art, original magazine and newspaper extracts, nightclub advertisements and more.

SIR LORD BALTIMORE Kingdom Come LP
2022 restock. Trading Places present a reissue of Sir Lord Baltimore's Kingdom Come, originally released in 1970. Hard-rocking Brooklyn trio Sir Lord Baltimore's highly sought-after debut album is a legendary precursor of the heavy metal genre, a 1971 Creem review of the disc perhaps the first to ever use the term. The group benefited from the songwriting and production team of Mike Appel and Jim Cretecos, Appel the future manager of Bruce Springsteen and Cretecos already heady from success with The Partridge Family; recorded at Vantone Studios in New Jersey, it was mixed to fine effect by Eddie Kramer at Electric Ladyland, fresh from his work with Jimi Hendrix. Guitarist Louis Dambra co-arranged the material with Appel and Cretecos; he had earlier played in garage band The Koala as Louis Caine, and here his screeching guitar is a major draw, backed by plodding bass from Gary Justin, as front man John Garner shrieks his vocals while pounding furious drumbeats. Aside from a tough cover of Ray Charles's "I Got A Woman" and a track inspired by Yeats poem, "Lake Isle Of Innersfree," the album features heavily-stoned acid rock originals, delivered the Sir Lord Baltimore way. 180 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve. 3MB FEATURING MAGIC JUAN ATKINS 3MB featuring Magic Juan Atkins 2LP
2022 repress; double LP version. 180 gram vinyl; includes download code. Tresor Records reissue a classic from the early catalog, 3MB featuring Magic Juan Atkins. Initially released in 1992, Juan Atkins joined forces with Moritz von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann, for the second iteration of the latter duo's 3 Men in Berlin project, producing a monumental collaboration between Berlin and Detroit that profoundly affected the path forward for techno music. The impact this album holds is evident in how it elevates beyond a singular or separable representation of its origins. Instead, it resonates through a collaborative nature that reflects its inherent melting pot. Where hints of each member's sound -- Atkins's mangled and bouncing funk, von Oswald's purist echoes and foundation rumblings, and Fehlmann's ambient meshes -- may be heard coalescing in a slipstream, and at other times tussling in fervent unfoldings. It may be almost 30 years old, but it remains deeply innovative at its core -- folding and warping, unrelenting from its vision. Densely packed is a propulsive drive of discordant bubbling and jazz-induced textures. Featuring much-beloved tracks such as "Jazz Is The Teacher" and "Die Kosmischen Kuriere", Atkins, von Oswald and Fehlmann forming an emission bound together as a mould of metropolis navigation. Be it amid destructed realities harboring the bleakest of nights, or long-lensed sci-fi visions, joining dots between the position of the feet and the head. The flanging pads and chirruping percussion of "Jazz Is The Teacher" lead in a moment in dance music that is as legendary as iconic, shifting into terrains far-out, receiving astral missives then rendering them to groove. Laidback, soulful and affective, it equals ultra-funky, interstellar techno that, once heard, leaves us never quite the same.

PLASTIKMAN & CHILLY GONZALES Consumed In Key 3LP
2022 repress. Turbo Recordings present its grandest achievement yet, a reimagining of Plastikman's 1998 magnum opus Consumed, transformed as a new collaborative composition between original artist Richie Hawtin and musical genius Chilly Gonzales. This is an album three decades in the making, brought into the world by executive producer Tiga. A masterpiece of restraint, depth, and music as architectural vision, Consumed was profoundly influential, defining the soon-to-emerge minimal movement. Shortly after its 20th anniversary, Chilly Gonzales was inspired to compose accompanying piano pieces (counterparts) for each of the tracks and shared them with Tiga, who became the conduit between both artists and led the project to fruition on his label. Hawtin mixed the new combined work, allowing each artist their own space within the project, more of a sonic conversation between them than a conventional collaboration. The artwork is a reinterpretation of the original album's, flipped to black-and-white and with the cutout size transposed to the dimensions of a piano key, the die-cut in the white outer sleeve revealing a shiny black foil stamp on the black inner sleeves. Vinyl and packaging were made using recycled materials.

REAL ESTATE Real Estate LP
2022 repress. 2009 release. LP version. "Real Estate waft in on vibes of hazy summers past. The New Jersey quartet of Martin Courtney IV, Matthew Mondanile III, Etienne Pierre Duguay and Alex Bleeker cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots it's no surprise that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound, lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through parched neighborhood streets. Martin Courtney's songwriting has a way of wrapping up the immediacy of youth with the ennui of age for the perfect shade of bittersweet bliss, mind you though, much heavier on the sweet than the bitter. Add to this Mondanile's (Ducktails/ Predator Vision) shimmering guitar strains full of equal parts sea foam and beer foam, pepper in the boardwalk clatter of Duguay's drums Bleeker's staccato low end and the perfect afternoon is just a lawn chair and boom box away." --Andy French/raven sings the blues

MORBY, KEVIN Harlem River LP
2022 repress, color vinyl. Originally released in 2013. Forest green opaque vinyl. "Harlem River marks the solo debut of songwriter Kevin Morby. Known for his work as the singer/guitarist for Brooklyn band The Babies and bassist for Woods, the Kansas City native and new Los Angeles resident calls the record 'an homage to New York City,' his adopted home for the past five years. Harlem River features eight interweaving tales of tragedy and misfortune from a series of desperate characters playing out their dramas with the city as backdrop. A departure from some of the signature sounds of his better-known projects, Morby's solo material glistens with a haunting intimacy. He maintains that the songs are about other people, but it's hard not to feel a piece of him in each one -- a half-imagined, half-painfully personal world of lost love, addiction, violence and prayers for the departed. The album was recorded in Los Angeles in February and March of 2013 with producer Rob Barbato, who recorded The Babies' second album Our House on the Hill and whose guitar and bass work figure prominently on Harlem River. It also features drummer Justin Sullivan (The Babies) as well as contributions from Will Canzoneri, Tim Presley (White Fence), Dan Lead, and Cate Le Bon."

MORBY, KEVIN Still Life LP
2022 repress, color vinyl. Originally released in 2014. Transparent green vinyl. "Received a 7.9 rating from Pitchfork. Still Life is the second solo album from Kevin Morby. The namesake of the record is an art piece by Maynard Monrow entitled Still Life with the Rejects from the Land of Misfit Toys. The album's title has several meanings. On the surface, it refers to Morby's change in lifestyle that came with moving to Los Angeles from New York in August of 2013. But he also admits that the title is ironic. The songs from Still Life were written during yet another period of tour and travel for Morby, as he spent almost all of 2013 on the road with Woods (with whom Morby parted ways amicably last year), The Babies (who are currently on hiatus) and as a solo artist. The album reflects both this time in transit and the quiet confines of his new home in Montecito Heights. Scenes of performers, audience expectations and the paradoxical confines of a roving individual perpetually caught in a crowd percolate the songs, notably in 'The Jester, The Tramp & The Acrobat,' and 'Parade.' (Morby calls the latter an elegy of sorts for one of his major influences, Lou Reed.) Violent fates, wrestling with destiny and the nature of death creep into songs like 'The Ballad of Arlo Jones,' 'Bloodsucker' and 'Amen.' Even Morby's more obvious love songs like 'All of My Life,' 'Drowning' and 'Our Moon' are highly bittersweet; the characters seem to never quite find each other, but perhaps they find themselves. As with Harlem River, Still Life is produced by Rob Barbato (Cass McCombs, Darker My Love) who adds his signature guitar and bass playing to the album. The album was engineered and mixed by Drew Fischer, who also worked on Harlem River and The Babies' second full-length album Our House on the Hill, and recorded between March and June of 2014 at Barbato and Fischer's new studio, Comp'ny. Morby is also once again joined by Justin Sullivan (The Babies) on drums and percussion. Sullivan is a fixture in Morby's live band. Solo artist (and Cate Le Bon guitarist) H. Hawkline handled bass duties for Morby on the tour and contributes bass to three songs on the record that were a live staple. Multi-instrumentalist Will Canzoneri (Le Bon, Cass McCombs, Jessica Pratt), who also performed live with Morby on the tour and who was a contributor on Harlem River, performs piano and organ on the album."

WOODS City Sun Eater In The River Of Light LP
2022 repress, color vinyl. Originally released in 2016. Red vinyl. "Received a 7.6 rating from Pitchfork. Woods have always been experts at distilling life epiphanies into compact chunks of psychedelic folk that exists just outside of any sort of tangible time or place. Maybe those epiphanies were buried under cassette manipulation or drum-and-drone freakouts, or maybe they were cloaked in Jeremy Earl's lilting falsetto, but over the course of an impressive eight albums, Woods refined and drilled down their sound into City Sun Eater in the River of Light, their ninth LP and second recorded in a proper studio. It's a dense record of rippling guitar, lush horns and seductive, bustling anxiety about the state of the world. It's still the Woods you recognize, only now they're dabbling in zonked-out Ethiopian jazz, pulling influence from the low-key simmer of Brown Rice, and tapping into the weird dichotomy of making a home in a claustrophobic city that feels full of possibility even as it closes in on you. City Sun Eater in the River of Light is concise, powerful, anxious -- barreling headlong into an uncertain, constantly shifting new world." --Sam Hockley-Smith

ALLRED, JOSEPH The Rambles & Rags of Shiloh LP
"The prominent biblical city of Shiloh was first mentioned in the Book of Joshua: And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them" (Joshua 18:1) It held a perhaps unsurpassed place of importance for the Israelites until the construction of Solomon's Temple and elevation of Jerusalem as the capital of a united Israel some centuries later. The Shiloh, which is the primary matter of interest here, is not the biblical city, but rather a namesake community in rural Overton County, Tennessee, situated in the Upper Cumberland region of the Appalachian Plateau near the Tennessee/Kentucky border. It isn't a town, but a community made up of a church, two cemeteries, a smattering of houses, some farmland surrounded by forested hills, and a mostly gravel road. The West Fork of the Obey River tumbles through the area at a fairly leisurely pace, and Joseph's father, who was born in the adjacent and slightly easier to access community of Allred, always called Shiloh Road "the River Road" since the road and the river often unfurl through the valley side by side. The instrumental pieces for guitars and banjo on the album at hand mostly depict images and events, both real and imagined, that take place in Shiloh and the broader river valley it's situated in. "I won't go into the details of the inspiration for each tune here," Allred comments, "but I will say that Shiloh is a place where the distinction between past and present isn't always clearly defined. It's a kind of 'mandorla,' a place where the spheres of past and present, dead and living, immanent and transcendent, overlap. It's also a place that has attracted some odd characters over the years, or just people who are weary and trying to find refuge. Though I grew up in a small town about 25 miles away from Shiloh and have lived in Boston since 2016, my dad's side of the family has been in the area for over 200 years, and that valley feels a lot like the place I'll be buried when I die." Gatefold sleeve; art by Jonny Brokenbrow."Joseph Allred's recent outpouring of excellent releases has been an impressive enough feat on its own considering how unique they all are in relation to one another and how focused each one is when taken as individual statements. The Rambles & Rags of Shiloh strikes such a deceptively comfortable balance between more familiar folk guitar approaches and Allred's own wholly distinctive techniques that it'd be hard to believe it was the same person playing everything if you were able to ignore how seamlessly it all fits together." --Rob Noyes"If you don't know Allred already, you will soon." --Byron Coley

TAKADA, MIDORI Cutting Branches For A Temporary Shelter CD
WRWTFWW Records and MEG Museum (Geneva) present the first new solo album by renowned Japanese percussionist Midori Takada in 23 years, Cutting Branches For A Temporary Shelter. Recorded in a live setting and played with instruments conserved in the collections of the MEG Museum, Cutting Branches For A Temporary Shelter is Midori Takada's very own rendition of "Nhemamusasa", a traditional work emblematic of the musical repertoire for mbira of the Shona of Zimbabwe, well known worldwide, thanks notably to its version by Paul F. Berliner included on the famed 1973 album The Soul of Mbira. The choice of this title by Midori Takada evokes the links between traditional African and contemporary music which are the foundation of this work, and it also translates the resolutely multicultural vision of the artist. Midori Takada explains: "African music is remarkable for its polyrhythms. Not only are there simultaneously several rhythmic motifs, sometimes as many as ten, but furthermore it may be that the part played by each musician has its own starting point and its own pace, all combining to form a cycle. All the cycles progress at the same time according to a single metrical structure which functions as a reference point, but which is not played by any one person from beginning to end. The structure emerges out of the multi-level parts, all different. With the Shona, the musical system is based on the polymelody: one performs simultaneously several melodic lines which are superimposed, each having its own rhythmic organization. It is truly captivating. In Western classical music, one four-beat rhythm induces some precise temporal framework and regular reference points, which come on the strong beats 1 and 3. But in the logic of the Shona musical system, and in other African music, the melody can begin in the very middle of the cycle and be continued up to some other place in an autonomous manner, as if it had its own personality. It's very rich." Includes in-depth liner notes that include an interview with Midori Takada, a point of view by Zimbabwean scholar, musician and activist Forward Mazuruse, and background information on the project by Isabel Garcia Gomez and Madeleine Leclair from MEG Museum. Artwork by celebrated Zimbabwean painter Portia Zvavahera.

TAKADA, MIDORI You Who Are Leaving To Nirvana CD
WRWTFWW Records and MEG Museum (Geneva) announce a new full-length album by celebrated Japanese percussionist Midori Takada, in collaboration with Buddhist monks belonging to the Samgha group of the Shingon school of Koya-san, led by Reverend Syuukoh Ikawa. Recorded at The Premises Studio (London) and in Tokyo in 2019, You Who Are Leaving To Nirvana is a majestic work combining a suite of six Buddhist liturgical chants and a musical creation by Midori Takada. The Buddhist chants come from three types of repertoires: shomyo ("Teisan", "Unga-Bai", "Sange", "Taiyo"), but also goeika ("Kannon-Daiji") and mantra ("Hannya-Singyo"). After supervising the recording of the Buddhist chants, Midori Takada added her own compositions, with subtle layers of percussion and the melodies of her beloved marimba, giving full life to the sacred texts. Reverend Syuukoh Ikawa explains: "Shomyo is a form of declamation of sacred esoteric texts, inherited over many generations. The power of words goes far beyond their mere pronunciation. I think there is something that words alone cannot really convey. If I recite prayers in a musical way, the feeling transmitted will be even stronger than if I say it normally, in everyday language. I think that the musicality of a work carries a hidden power that cannot be expressed in words alone. The setting of the music has an additional power for you and for those around you who listen to it. The words of a song are not just words set to music. They carry an additional hidden power that cannot be expressed in any other way. Listening to Midori Takada's musical performance, the words truly seem to come alive." Original recordings of the Buddhist chants are held in the International Archives of Folk Music (IAFM) at the MEG Museum in Geneva. The album sleeve features an artwork by famed Japanese sculptor Katsura Funakoshi selected by Midori Takada.

GHANIA WITH PHAROAH SANDERS, MALEEM MAHMOUD The Trance Of Seven Colors 2LP
2022 repress. Zehra present The Trance Of Seven Colors by master Gnawa musician Maleem Mahmoud Ghania and free jazz legend Pharoah Sanders, available on vinyl for the very first time. Originally released in 1994 on Bill Laswell's Axiom imprint, and produced by Bill Laswell, The Trance Of Seven Colors is the meeting of two true musical masters. Maleem Mahmoud Ghania (1951-2015), son of the master of Gnawa music Maleem Boubker Ghania and the famous clairvoyant and "moqaddema", A'isha Qabral, and a master of the traditional Gnawa style in his own right. Mahmoud learned this craft as a youth along with his brothers, walking from village to village, performing ceremonies with his father Boubker and was one of the few masters (Maleem) who continued to practice the Gnawa tradition strictly for healing (the central ritual of the Gnawa is the trance music ceremony -- with the purpose of healing or purification of the participants). With 30 cassette releases of music from the Gnawa repertoire with his own ensemble and performances at every major festival in Morocco, including performing for the King in various contexts, Mahmoud Ghania was also one of Morocco's most prominent professional musicians. In 1994, Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders went to Morocco equipped with just some mobile recording devices to record Ghania and a large ensemble of musicians (a good portion being family members) in a very intimate set-up at a private house. Sanders, the legendary free jazz musician, contributed the distinctive tenor saxophone sounds that gained him highest praise as a truly spiritual soul right from the days of playing with John Coltrane and his wife Alice and on seminal solo albums, like Karma (1969). The aptly titled The Trance Of Seven Colors ranks among the best Gnawa recordings ever released, making it onto The Vinyl Factory's list of "10 incredible percussive albums from around the world". 25 years after its original CD release, it is finally available on vinyl. Remastered for vinyl and vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. 180 gram vinyl; comes in gatefold sleeve; includes download code. "One of the most important albums of Gnawa trance music released in the '90s." --The Attic "first-hand access to Gnawa healing ceremonial music" --All Music
