KRAJENSKI. B-3 Vol.2 LP
LP version. A journey -- that's how musicians like to describe working on a new album. In the case of krajenski.'s new LP B-3 Vol. 2 it really was a journey. Many ideas were born and discarded, several sessions were played for inspiration, plenty of songs were produced in advance -- the journey is the journey. Then the decisive missing link: krajenski. was able to find the two musicians and producers Dirk Berger (Peter Fox, Seed, Marteria) and Samon Kawamura (Joy Denalane, Max Herre, Till Br?nner) for this project. And suddenly the production took a completely different magical turn -- away from a "band album" towards a musical experiment. These three musicians locked themselves up in a studio for two days, let the inspiration flow and recorded everything that happened spontaneously and unplanned. The nucleus can be a small, melodic phrase, a beat or simply a sound from the Hammond organ. The tracks, some of which last ten minutes, were then reduced to their essence and refined with great care and diligence and finally produced -- without changing the original DNA of the material. As there were basically no musical guidelines, the songs have a wide range of styles -- from groovy-funky to atmospheric to boogaloo, bossa nova and Latin. The common thread, however, is always the wonderfully diverse sound of the Hammond organ. But B-3 Vol.2 is not just an instrumental album: Nen? V?squez from Mo' Horizons recites a hymn to the most legendary of all Hammond organs and MOORE, a rising star from Italy, enhances two further tracks with his voice.

NATURE'S CONSORT Nature's Consort LP
Obscure and outstanding free jazz album reissued for the first time since its original release in 1969. Old-style gatefold LP, with liner notes by Ed Hazell. In the late 1960s, young jazz musician Bobby Naughton, a keyboardist and vibraphonist, faced significant challenges as he sought to record his first album. With major record labels and jazz clubs catering only to big names, Naughton and other creative musicians of his generation found themselves sidelined by the mainstream music industry. They turned to self-reliance and self-production, becoming part of a movement of independent musicians. Naughton's debut album, Nature's Consort, was a DIY effort in every sense -- recorded on home equipment and featuring a hand-printed woodblock cover. The album was distributed independently at concerts and by mail, receiving little attention initially, but over the years it gained a reputation as a rare, sought-after artifact of the period. Though recorded during an outdoor concert in Connecticut, Nature's Consort reflected the "loft jazz" scene in New York City. This avant-garde jazz movement centered around musicians who lived and played in loft spaces in lower Manhattan. Naughton commuted from his home in Southbury, Connecticut, to play with his bandmates Mark Whitecage, Mario Pavone, and Laurence Cook in New York's lofts. These musicians regularly performed at venues like Studio We, a key gathering spot for free-form jazz, where musicians could experiment and develop their sound, often with no audience present. Naughton's journey into jazz was a winding one. Originally from Boston, he played rockabilly and blues-rock before transitioning into free jazz. Inspired by avant-garde artists like Carla Bley and Paul Bley, Naughton sought to explore new forms of music that went beyond traditional jazz structures. His bandmates, Mark Whitecage and Mario Pavone, were both deeply affected by the death of John Coltrane in 1967, which prompted them to quit their day jobs, attend Coltrane's funeral, and move to New York to pursue jazz full-time. Nature's Consort was a collective project, with band members sharing equally in any profits. However, Naughton was the driving force behind the group's creative direction. He composed much of the original material and selected pieces by Ornette Coleman and Carla Bley for the band's repertoire. Jazz critic Nat Hentoff praised the album for its "high-risk improvisation" and the musicians' ability to anticipate each other's moves. Though Nature's Consort received little press at the time, it has since been recognized as a significant early document of the loft jazz era, representing Naughton's disciplined, improvisational approach to music.

HOWARD, NOAH Patterns LP
Classic free jazz album reissued for the first time since the '70s. Old-style Gatefold LP, with liner notes by Ed Hazell. Noah Howard, an alto saxophonist and composer, was known for weaving intricate and innovative musical patterns, often likening his work to "sound paintings." His 1971 album Patterns, the first LP he self-produced on his Altsax label, stands as a testament to his experimental and spiritual approach to music. In interviews, Howard frequently used visual terms like "patterns" and "shapes" to describe his compositions, emphasizing the importance of melody and structure even in highly improvisational settings. For Howard, patterns and melodies were essential to guiding listeners through his explorations without alienating them, maintaining a balance between innovation and accessibility. Howard's quest for an original sound was deeply influenced by jazz greats like Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman, and Jackie McLean. While he admired these legends, Howard avoided imitation, striving instead to develop his own distinct voice. His sound was unmistakably his own, and he felt a deep obligation to carry the jazz tradition forward through personal expression, not by mimicking others. His music was also rooted in spirituality, a legacy he traced to his upbringing in the Black Baptist Church. He believed jazz had always contained a spiritual essence, from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane, and his work aimed to channel this cosmic, spiritual energy. Patterns was recorded in the Netherlands during Howard's second stint in Europe, where he found a more open, less racially charged environment compared to the U.S. For the album, Howard collaborated with Dutch musicians such as Misha Mengelberg (piano), Han Bennink (drums), and Earl Freeman (bass). Despite the challenges faced by guitarist Jaap Schoonhoven, who felt out of place in the session, the album came together as a powerful mix of blues, jazz, and classical elements. The music on Patterns is a high-energy fusion of American free jazz and Dutch improvisation. Howard's saxophone work alternates between leading with passionate, lyrical lines and blending into the collective improvisation. The album's dynamic interplay, particularly between Mengelberg's dissonant piano clusters and Bennink's thunderous drumming, creates a vivid "sound painting" full of contrasting forms and colors. Patterns remains one of Howard's most unique and celebrated recordings, showcasing his visionary approach to jazz.

WYLAND, LUKE Kuma Cove LP
"Music is my forever cove," writes Portland, Oregon's Luke Wyland of the ideas that give shape to Kuma Cove, his latest album under his own name. Though named after a real place on the Oregon coast, Kuma Cove casts its gaze far beyond the sightseer's line of vision. Recorded live in the studio and blurring obvious lines between computer-based composition and electro-acoustic instrumentation, it is an album about flow, borders, transitory states, and shelter. Composed of discontinuous ripples and repetitions, shaped into richly emotive arcs, and informed by his experience as a person who stutters, it is also an album about identity, self-expression, and the energies that sluice through and across what is perceived as linear time -- like floodwaters seeking an exit, like streams running into the sea. Luke Wyland is an interdisciplinary artist, composer, and performer based in Portland, OR. Wyland has been releasing critically acclaimed records for the past 20 years in the groups AU and Methods Body, as LWW, and under his own name, working with such labels as New Amsterdam, Beacon Sound, Balmat, The Leaf Label, and Aagoo Records. As a person who stutters, Wyland's approach to music is informed by his idiosyncratic relationship with language. Wyland believes deeply in the cathartic power of live performance as a means for collective healing. Through an interdisciplinary art practice that focuses on improvisation, somatic embodiment, bespoke tuning systems, the cadences of disfluent speech, and time manipulation technologies, he's collaborated with choreographers, high-school choirs, filmmakers, sound designers, and renowned musicians such as John Niekrasz, Holland Andrews, Colin Stetson, and Abraham Gomez-Delgado. Wyland has toured nationally and internationally and performed at the Whitney Museum, Ecstatic Music Festival, Issue Project Room, PICA's Time-Based Arts Festival, End of the Road Festival, and Les Nuits Botanique, among others.

ISABELLE LEWIS Greetings LP
Brand-new band featuring Bedroom Community's own Valgeir Sigur?sson at the helm, commissioned by Belgium's BClassic arts and music foundation -- this project has blossomed into a full band for its three core members. Who is Isabelle Lewis, anyway? What kind of music does she make? Is she an opera singer? Does she write pop songs? Does she compose ethereal ambient soundscapes? Does she play chamber music on the violin? Is she producing dark, electronic beats? Well? yes. But Isabelle Lewis is not so much a person as a project. Isabelle's debut album, Greetings, credits a trio of composer-performers at its heart: producer Valgeir Sigur?sson, vocalist Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, and violinist Elisabeth Klinck. The sound of the elusive Isabelle Lewis is heard most clearly in the push and pull between them, the three-way tension that gives the album its musical and emotional drive. Each of the three brings more to the collaboration than those epithets might imply. Elisabeth's solo performance practice incorporates composition, improvisation, live electronics, and a close command of bowing and fingering techniques that make her fiddle sing, whisper or whistle as required. Benjamin is a self-taught countertenor -- keening, crooning, and swelling to a voluptuous sensuality -- but also an interdisciplinary stage director and performer. Well known for his work as a producer and studio collaborator, and as a composer of scores for film and stage, Valgeir's solo discography interweaves meticulously crafted electronics, drones, noise, and other digital elements with acoustic instruments and vocals recorded with naked, unflinching clarity. But the extravagant theatricality Benjamin brings grapples against the thudding bass of the implacable digital backdrop. The album as a whole is elegantly shaped, swelling from an intimate, interpersonal statement into something deeper and more spacious. The first half of the album leans slightly towards self-contained pop songcraft and ticking beats, while side B jumps off into the almost symphonic grandeur of songs like "Moonshell" or the instrumental "Not the water, air, or the dirt." The ominous weight of the droning sub-bass and trombone (guest player Helgi Hrafn J?nsson) only makes the interplay between vocals and violins (guest player Daniel Pioro joining Elisabeth) seem more delicate and vulnerable. RIYL: Perfume Genius, Anhoni, Rufus Wainwright, James Blake, Bat For Lashes, John Grant.

LA FEMME Psycho Tropical Berlin 2LP
2024 repress. French indie-rock band La Femme is a conundrum -- an episodic band with various faces. La Femme was born during the X years in Biarritz, France, when Sasha and Marlon started composing music on their guitars and recording it onto Garage Band. Together they ride surfboards, pianos and synthesizers as they explore various styles from '60s y?-y? French pop to California surf music. Marlon moved to Paris, and there he met Sam, who played bass. Together, they formed SOS Mademoiselle along with Olivier Peynot, and played vintage French rock, as Sasha was practicing his scales in reverb surf band Les Redoutables. Sasha then joined his friends in Paris, where they discovered French cold wave and synth pop, Marie et les Gar?ons being one of their favorites. They polished a style that could be described as one of the following: surf-wave, bizarre-wave, strange-wave, weird-witch-wave, silly mental-wave or psycho-tropical Berlin. Joined in 2010 by drummer No? and female singer Cl?mence. La Femme formed its first live roster in a few days and took shape that same year with its first anthem, "Sur la planche," a song that was made to be hummed and whistled while riding a surfboard. Later on, La Femme released their second EP, Paris 2012. Soon joined by fancy rhythm drummer Nunez Ritter von Merguez aka La Sauterelle and singer Clara Luciani, as well as a whole roster of female singers, they now present their debut album Psycho Tropical Berlin where rock, pop, rococo Bauhaus, as well as influences from Kraftwerk and Elli & Jacno conjoin just to please you. SCHICKERT, GUNTER Uberfallig LP
2024 restock. 180 gram LP version. Bureau B reissues G?nter Schickert's album ?berf?llig, originally released in 1979 on Sky Records. "No sooner had electronic music broken through in Germany, principally aligned in the two schools of D?sseldorf and Berlin, than G?nter Schickert also began his first musical experiments. Although GAM, the group he founded in 1973, did not then release a record, he did issue his first solo effort, Samtvogel, a year later -- an album which was eagerly snapped up and re-released by the Brain label. It would take five years for Sky Records to release his next LP, entitled ?berf?llig (trans. "Overdue"), which proved to be the last for a number of years. This album, as its German title suggests, was long overdue. G?nter Schickert had developed his own unique, forward-looking type of music, assuming an exceptional position in the concert of German electronics. In spite of the clearly discernible influence of music from the so-called Berlin school (Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel etc.), Schickert is anything but a copycat. Schickert concentrated on pursuing his own ideas and pushing the boundaries of his remarkable aural creations. He is at pains to emphasize that, unlike almost all of his contemporaries, he did not use any synthesizers; his instruments are the electric guitar, his own studio with a multi-track tape machine and a comfortable arsenal of effects. Similar experiments had also been attempted by Manuel G?ttsching (Inventions For Electric Guitar) and Achim Reichel (A.R. & Machines: Die Gr?ne Reise), but without stretching the multifaceted nature of their music to the point of microtonality, as Schickert dared to do on ?berf?llig. His own take on minimalism places him closer to the likes of Steve Reich and Glen Branca, free from the reach of Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream. Schickert's use of concrete sounds and his completely autonomous way of working in his own studio presaged a stage of development more readily associated with the early 1980s. In 1979, the album was a statement of a virtuosic outsider, a guitarist and sound sculptor whose musical visions transgressed the level of expectation of a potential audience, detached from the electronic mainstream. G?nter Schickert was one of the protagonists who furthered the development of experimental pop music from the outer margins. The reissue of ?berf?llig was, in a word, overdue." --Asmus Tietchens; Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens.

GROSSKOPF, HARALD Synthesist LP
2024 restock; LP version. "Harald Grosskopf was in his early twenties when LSD 'blew [his] reality away,' as he recalls. Born in Hildesheim in 1949, he had previously drummed in fairly conventional rock bands, most recently for Wallenstein. Their label-boss Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser was fond of facilitating jam sessions for musicians on his Ohr und Pilz label, often supplying his 'cosmic couriers' with LSD (unbeknown to them, on occasion). In one such session, the drug inspired something of an epiphany in Grosskopf: 'There I was playing the drums when, in the midst of my euphoria, I realized that I had been imitating other drummers. Suddenly a voice spoke to me: stop trying to sound like Billy Cobham or Ginger Baker. From that moment on I felt liberated, free to drum without having to shine in a particular role.' Having discovered his own musical identity, Harald Grosskopf understood that a standard rock combo was not the ideal conduit through which to express it. Grosskopf: 'I was completely in thrall to electronic music and the total freedom that it offered. This was the music I wanted to create. I knew it would be a success, the energy levels were so high.' Grosskopf consequently left Wallenstein. 'I fell into a hole at first, wondering what I was going to do. So I sold my prized drum kit and used the money to buy a guitar, amp and echo device.' A few days later, the doorbell rang. It was Manuel G?ttsching, on his way back to Berlin from a tour of France. They knew each other from Berlin's electronic scene and recording sessions for the likes of Ash Ra Tempel. G?ttsching invited Grosskopf to sign up for his new project Ashra and the rest is history: Ashra (Grosskopf, Gottsching, Lutz Ulbrich alias Luul) released a series of successful albums in the years that followed. It was not until the summer of 1979, however, that he finally felt ready to release a solo album. Synthesist comprises eight instrumentals, recorded largely by Grosskopf on his own. His melodies, carried along by synthesizers and drums, were reminiscent of works by Berlin electronic friends such as Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream, as well as those 'cosmic' sessions of the early 1970s -- yet each melody retains a unique timbre. Synthesist is thus regarded as a classic by electronic music enthusiasts all over the world, evoking a thrilling musical era of the past with equal capacity to excite today." --Christoph Dallach

WOODLEIGH RESEARCH FACILITY, THE Vous Du Music 12"
Byrd Out Limited presents the release of previously unheard music from The Woodleigh Research Facility. The four-track EP Vous Du Music pulses with a chugging, acid-tinged electronica recorded between 2016 and 2017. The EP opens with the title track "Vous Du," a nod to the Gallic black magick musical creations of Erick Legrand, whose track Woodleigh Research Facility reworked here (indeed, Erick is given a credit). "Vous Du" is packed full of blips, beeps and propulsive energy, as well as spoken word interlaced with the unmistakable sound of the 303. Clocking in at eight minutes, "Between Two Waves" is arguably the standout track, with a swirling, hypnotic groove that captures the listener. With its insistent beat and interweaving melodies, the track conjures to mind the tide coming in and sweeping you away to a different place. The third track, "Tempesta" aptly moves to a more-stormy place, with industrial noises and haunting sonic layers. But looking to Caliban, the sounds and sweet airs give delight, and hurt not. "Tempesta" is almost reminiscent of a Hardfloor sound, moving along at pace. Closing out the EP is a remix of "Vous Du" by producer Timothy J. Fairplay, who sharpens the original into a dancefloor weapon of the highest caliber with more acid, more synths, more kick drum. This is harder, dense, acid-flecked techno. Fairplay is a firm fixture of the electronic music scene releasing on Dungeon Module, Pinkman Records and more, as well as formerly being in The Asphodells, and being co-founder of club night and label Crimes of the Future alongside Scott Fraser.

GARNIER, LAURENT 33 Tours Et Puis S'en Vont 3LP
2024 repress; triple LP version. Laurent Garnier is one of electronic music's best-known acts, a pioneering household name responsible for decades of clubland classics. From experiencing the acid-house movement first-hand as a DJ at The Ha?ienda through to timeless hits such as the breakout "Crispy Bacon" and the enduring "The Man With The Red Face", his tireless enthusiasm has permeated the dance music landscape via six celebrated albums, numerous singles and a relentless touring schedule. On 33 Tours Et Puis S'en Vont, Laurent Garnier's first solo LP in eight years and his most dancefloor-oriented yet, a total mastery of house, techno, and beyond is on full display. Club-leaning cuts from "Liebe Gr??e Aus Cucuron" through to "Granulator Bordelum" all distil his years of warehouse, club, and festival experience into thrilling expressions of musical tension and release. Vocal-led tracks tastefully borrow from a range of genre influences; from the hip-hop inflected "In Your Phase" with 22Carbone, an incendiary number that will be firmly burnt into the memory of any attendee of Garnier's recent DJ sets, to the punk of "Saturn Drive Triplex", which features vocals from the late Alan Vega, of influential duo Suicide notoriety. Elsewhere, sprinklings of broken rhythms appear in the leftfield downtempo cut "...et puis s'en Va!" and drum & bass experiment "Sado Miso", offering listeners a further view into his wide-ranging taste. Across 2022, Garnier released five EPs, each containing a special hidden code referencing a fairground ride from his childhood, alluding to the album. 3LP version features Alan Vega, Scan X, and 22Carbone.

LANGENBERG Central Heated House 2LP
After a considerable career releasing on numerous labels, as well as being co-founder of Essen based label Mild Pitch, Max Heesen finally drops the first album under his Langenberg alias. Heesen, (who is also one half of Ribn with Manuel Tur) delivers the smartly titled Central Heated House for Steve Bug's Dessous Recordings. The LP format suits Langenberg's hypnotic house classicism well, allowing time and space to stretch out the grooves and moods over four sides of vinyl - working both for the DJs and perfect as a soundtrack for the autumn. The LP kicks off with "Jade," a melancholic, tape-saturated introduction to Langenberg's deep tastes. "Room 210" maintains this atmosphere, with fizzing percussion and warm Detroit-esque melodies. "Groove 26" is perfectly timed for the hot summer, as lush Rhodes chords and KDJ style vocal snippets provide the heat for the open air vibes. The single from early 2016, "Shadows", features the talents of vocalist Blakkat, and caused some serious response when it hit airwaves and dancefloors alike. "Never Worry" is a heads down roller, built around a simple but perfectly executed bassline, while "Dreamliner" is trippy laidback sunshine house all the way. "I'll Be Late" and "Planitz Proposal" step back into the club, with Langenberg's signature crisp percussion, crunchy hits and analog synth wizardry on full display. "Rain & Roses" closes out the album in a similar way to how it started - wistful, thoughtful house music with soul.

PHIZMIZ, ERGO Selected Ambient and ASMR Works 2001-2003 LP
An extremely prolific artist, whose work encompasses composition, opera, theatre, radio plays, film or performance, Ergo Phizmiz returns to the Discrepant fold long after his Two Quartets and Disco Carousel -- under his given DW Robertson name -- albums. A purveyor of the Creative Commons rights, Phizmiz has been deploying much of his work on the ever-expanding Free Music Archive directed by WFMU since the early 2000's, creating a sprawling and defiant body of work that defies given and stale notions of sound hierarchies, history and copyright through a process that comprises collage, sampling, reappropriation, songwriting, covers and pretty much any available media with a playful and thoughtful approach. For this new Discrepant entry, Phizmiz goes back in time to push into the future a number of pieces recorded more than two decades ago creating this perpetual motion outside a linear chronologic progression. Anticipating by almost 20 years the memefication of ASMR videos, Selected Ambient & ASMR Works 2001-2003 -- itself a pun on the AFX classics -- embraces the ambient tag not at its functional face value, but instead as a means to the "evocation of imaginary spaces, and correspondingly the invention of their sonic environments." Collecting recordings from a myriad of instruments -- violin, xylophone, banjo, kora, found percussion and so on -- shortwave radio and field recordings to create loops with different lengths that play with and/or against themselves continuously in a process "(dis)conjunction" not far removed from Feldman's Why Patterns? or hip-hop's sampledelia. A free-floating temporal space that collapses the flashing images of Angelfire pages unto Web 2.0 sense of displacement.

INDIAN PALE MALE Dance Of The Red Herrings LP
Debut solo record from Manchester based writer Nathan McIlroy, formerly of Frazer King. The record is produced by Jim Noir and his sonic fingerprints sculpt the raw materials into a weird pop opus. Noir is also releasing the record on his Dook Recordings label and played drums and vocals on several tracks. Recorded by McIlroy's long-time friend and musical associate, Big A, the songs are laden with cracked harmonies and homemade instruments, including found materials used as percussion. The pair drew on the talents of fellow travelers for backing vocals and rhythm tracks which has resulted in the live outfit expanding to a three piece, with Ben Price (bass) and Charlie Garson (drums) on board. Commenting on the writing process McIlroy explains: "It was written during a period of madness and adverse offending behaviors. The songs dash from one theme to another and reflect the mistaken beliefs we cling to when our perceived realities are threatened. It's also got jokes." Opposing a streaming culture that values top tracks and playlists, the record is intended to be heard in one sitting, with Side A showcasing more extroverted songs, in all their loudmouth braggadocio, and Side B being more introspective and honest. Limited to 300 copies only on black vinyl.

SATIN JACKETS Panorama Pacifico 2LP
2024 repress; 5th year anniversary repress on colored vinyl of Satin Jackets' debut album. Double LP version. Electropop darlings Satin Jackets (German producer Tim Bernhardt and lead performer Den Ishu) unveil their debut artist album, Panorama Pacifico, featuring a string of cameos from vocalists jetting in from LA, Berlin, London, Belgium, and Australia. Scaling the heights of the Hype Machine right from their first release and clocking up almost ten million plays on Spotify, the duo deals in an original brand of diva funk and smooth disco that has whetted the taste buds of the likes of Majestic Casual and i-D (the latter of which called the duo's work "super sexy, infectious house music thats filled with the vibe of summertime"). Their smash single, "You Make Me Feel Good," has accumulated close to three million plays on SoundCloud and YouTube at the time of this release, while their eponymous live show has relentlessly toured the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe, opening their fluid pop appeal and accessible four-to-the-floor groove up to the world at large. Bernhardt recalls the origins of their debut album: "The idea came from our character, Mr. Satin Jackets, who's been travelling the world quite a bit the past two years. Four continents, about twenty countries, he's on the West Coast and takes a break. He watches the ocean to put his mind at ease and . . . Panorama Pacifico." This idyllic perspective is launched by the vocals of Scavenger Hunt, the Los Angeles-based electropop four-piece who have been charted by Billboard and featured by the likes of Nylon, while Nigeria-born, Birmingham-based UoB's Got Talent winner IsaacO contributes to "Keep Moving On." The album also takes a peek into the past successes of Satin Jackets, with 2015's smash single "Shine On You" featuring UK-born, Berlin-based talent Esser (which Clash called "an exploratory glimpse into the mind-expanding side of Satin Jackets' electronics") and 2016 single "We Can Talk" featuring vocals from Emma Brammer. Further collaborators include Ghent-based collective I will, I swear; Melbourne's Kids At Midnight; and Belgian pop diamonds-in-the-rough Marble Sounds. Fellow Eskimo artist and Greek producer NTEIBINT and KLP from Australia also feature. Three-quarters of the tracks are fresh and introduce exciting guest vocalists and producers. These are complemented by the duo's much-loved staples, "Girl, Forever" and "You Make Me Feel Good."

SATIN JACKETS Solar Nights 2LP
2024 repress, double LP version; includes download. 5th year anniversary repress of Satin Jackets' Solar Nights. The A/B vinyl will be available on orange transparent vinyl, while the C/D vinyl will come on red transparent vinyl. Solar Nights is the long-awaited second album from German nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets. Released on Eskimo Recordings Solar Nights follows on from Bernhardt's critically acclaimed, and Gold certified, debut Panorama Pacifico (ESK 507583/ ESK 507585, 2016) and features 14 tracks of smooth disco and leftfield pop sounds with guest appearances from the likes of Future Classic's Panama, David Harks, Niya Wells, Emma Brammer, and Anduze. The global success of Panorama Pacifico has seen Bernhardt coaxed out from his remote studio in one of Germany's ancient forests to play to fans across the world, from South Korea to Mexico and beyond, experiences that inspired both the album itself and its title, Solar Nights. In recent years the world's become smaller, a more inter-connected place. It can be dark and cold here, with snow all around, and the next day I can be playing to people on a beach. Somewhere on the planet it's always daytime or summer, but beyond that day and night just blend into each other these days," Tim explains. "We have daytime discos so you can go and party while the sun is still high in the sky, and you can go and hit the gym at night. Be it day or night, Satin Jackets is your soundtrack." And what a soundtrack it is, from the first chords of opening 'Welcome Back' it's clear we're in safe hands here, the warm pads, delicate guitars and pianos providing the perfect introduction to the album. Solar Nights takes everything we loved from Panorama Pacifico and polishes it to an ultra-high sheen. And in an age when rough and raw production is seen as an easy shorthand for authenticity, Tim's love of ?ber-smooth production has made him an unlikely iconoclast, producing music that reflects the glamour and glitz of '70s Manhattan, artfully updated for the 21st century.

VA Tribal Organic: Deep Dive into European Percussions 79-90 LP
Ultimo Tango (Milan) and Glossy Mistakes (Madrid) present the release of Tribal Organic: Deep Dive into European Percussions 79-90, a compilation of otherworldly percussion-driven tracks, digging deep into this unknown realm of a past era. Compiled by Luca Fiore and Glossy Mario, the album takes listeners on a rhythmic journey through the diverse sounds of Europe from 1979 to 1990. This collaboration between two like-minded labels highlights forgotten recordings from across Europe, including works by artists from France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, and more. Opening with the ethereal "Rainforest" by British female duo Ova, this collection weaves together nine tracks from artists who were deeply influenced by global percussion traditions. With hints of jazz, new age, gamelan, and West African rhythms, these tracks feature instruments like congas, tablas, and shekeres, and reflect a shared fascination with the organic beat of the drum. From the industrial-meets-African grooves of Jean-Michel Bertrand's "Engines," to the hypnotic accordion and tribal chants of Cuco P?rez's "Calab? Bamb?," the compilation offers a cross-cultural listening experience that is both meditative and invigorating. Despite creating these works in isolation during the last years of the Cold War, each artist was inspired by a borderless world of sound. The compilation pays homage to these nomadic musicians who respected the traditions they drew from, while contributing their own experimental takes on percussion-led music. In Tribal Organic, Glossy Mario and Luca Fiore have unearthed a treasure trove of rhythm-driven tracks that blur the lines between nations, genres, and cultures. This compilation offers more than just music; it's a listening experience that is both spiritual and grounded -- bold, exploratory, and deeply rooted in the beat of the Earth. Also featuring Terry Keegan, Van Kampen, Votu, Four Drummers Drumming, ?????, Angklunk, and Cipriani One Man Band.

CRACKAZAT In the Sky 12"
Crackazat seamlessly blends contemporary electronica with dancefloor euphoria on his new record In the sky. Crackazat has had quite the run of amazing releases on Heist since his first outing back in 2021. Alfa, 2022 follow up Demucha, and his mini album Senses released in 2023 have shown that Heist is the perfect label for him to show off his keyboard wizardry and broad musical influences. In the sky hits you right in the feels and sees the talented musician navigate from synth-happy dancefloor cuts to electronic and jazzy deep house. What might stand out most on his new record is how Crackazat feels totally at ease with all these different styles and how he blends his voice seamlessly in the tracks to add depth, meaning, and energy. This might be most apparent on the title track, which is built around a syncopated Alfa-esque key loop. There's gorgeous vocal chops and warm arpeggiated synths in the background that give the track lots of texture, while the percussion shuffles along in perfect swing with the song's energy. Add some lovely strings, leads, and a moody breakdown, and you've got yourself a fine piece of dancefloor magic. On "Burnin'," Crackazat channels his inner raver with '90s inspired percussion, a honky piano loop, and some very catchy and quirky vocal chops. He freely sprinkles claps and snares around like it's Christmas and the big breakdown has the kind of madness-inducing energy that gets every clubber going! EP closer "Dark" is Crackazat in his most contemplative mode; a vibe he always loves to explore on his Heist outings. The bass is deep, the kick heavy, and the synth licks are mellow but powerful. His voice and effects give this track a beautiful extra dimension that would even make Fred Again jealous. The stripped-back percussion has clear influences from contemporary African dance music, which adds yet another layer to Crackazat's broad sonic landscape.

CLARKE, JOHNNY Don't Stay Out Late LP
2024 repress; LP version. Kingston Sounds present a reissue of Johnny Clarke's Don't Stay Out Late, originally released in 1977. Johnny Clarke stands tall as one of the great vocalists that ruled the Jamaican reggae scene from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s dancehall period. This re-issue of his Don't Stay Out Late set shows his versatility to sing any song that was put in front of him and make it his own. Under producer Bunny "Striker" Lee's guidance, Mr. Clarke produced a run of singles and albums few could match. Johnny Clarke (b 1955, Jamaica, West Indies) cut his first record "God Made The Sea And Sun" after winning a local singing contest in the Bull Bay area of Jamaica. Although the single was not a hit, it led to two follow up tracks for producer Rupie Edwards, "Everyday Wandering" and "Julie" that fared much better, both on the island and overseas in England and Canada. These tracks also brought the singer to the attention of producer Bunny Lee and a working relationship that would go on to produce a prolific catalog of music. Johnny Clarke's Dread Conscious/Love Song style were to grace many hits around this time in 1974. There were such tunes as "None Shall Escape The Judgement", "Move Out Of Babylon", "Rock With Me Baby", "Enter The Gates With Praise" to name but a few. All new songs added to a host of cover tunes, recommended by Bunny Lee, many taken from singer John Holt's catalog, that suited Clarke's vocal style. The rhythms were cut at various studios around the Island. Randy's Studio 17, Channel I, Treasure Isle, Dynamic Sounds, and Harry J's by a group of musicians loosely called The Aggravators and voiced King Tubby's studio. All great tracks backed by great rhythms, cut by Johnny Clarke with a voice that few could equal.

WANDINGER, LUDWIG Is Peace Wild? LP
An album of hypnagogic nocturnes that relentlessly searches for a sense of calm in the great unknown, Is Peace Wild? is German producer, drummer and visual artist Ludwig Wandinger's long-awaited debut solo full-length. He dreamt it up while unpacking the breakdown of a long relationship, working in hotel rooms during the downtime between a series of chaotic live shows. To help empty his mind, Wandinger developed a suite of soulful reflections that prioritize harmony over rhythm and clarity over trivial complexity -- music that confronts the eternal duality of romance and tragedy. Almost beatless and consistently sublime, Is Peace Wild? is punctuated by hypnotic lyrical contributions from multidisciplinary artist, poet and activist Yves B. Golden and producer and vocalist Evita Manji, both of whom bless the album with indispensable friendship and familiarity. With a series of albums and EPs under his belt already, Wandinger is a tireless solo artist and a prolific collaborator. Is Peace Wild?, though, emerges as Wandinger's most personal work to date. The title track opens the album, and Golden's voice breathes softly over Wandinger's warm, lulling arpeggios. This airiness doesn't last long: on the noisy, sombre "Vien," Wandinger interrupts his elegiac, organ-like synths with metallic crashes and distorted, rasping bass, weaving twinkling, pensive notes into the spaces in-between. The oscillation between darkness and light is remarkably even-handed, capturing the aching sense of longing -- or "Sehnsucht" -- that's at the core of German Romanticism. And it's even more evident on "Xhausted Form," one of the album's heaviest tracks. The album's illusory qualities are fully dilated on "Fire." Manji's hypnotic freestyle was recorded in a single take as they were lying in bed on the verge of falling asleep, and provides a quiescent counterpoint to Wandinger's muted trance vibrations. "The world is on fire drowning in its own fluids," they slur into the abyss, vocalizing playfully while Wandinger freezes the sentiment in vanishing 4/4 thuds and dissociated processes. This makes the baroque "Overlife" and the noisy "Eternal Image" all the more dynamic. On the latter, Wandinger creates a noisy, apocalyptic atmosphere for Golden's sardonic words, cooling his euphoric synths with hissing white noise and burnished cybernetic textures. Open-ended and tangled with emotional paradoxes, Is Peace Wild? can be interpreted in many different ways. For fans of: Aphex Twin, Kali Malone, Sarah Davachi, Kara-lis Coverdale, Tim Hecker, Sigur Ros, Laurel Halo.

MEMBRANES, THE Dark Matter/Dark Energy 2LP
In 2015, Membranes released their first album for 25 years. It was a critically acclaimed double album about life, death, and the universe. An ambitious work, it became the band's best-selling album in a long and unconventional career. Dark Matter / Dark Energy was both the band's critically acclaimed return and best-selling release and, due to public demand, it is now reissued as a double vinyl album in stunning and experimental, ground-breaking new artwork and packaging. The album was inspired by Membranes' John Robb, meeting John Incandela the head scientist from the CERN project at a TEDx talk they were both giving. Incandela had just completed his work on the Higgs Boson particle project, and Robb became friends with him and other scientists from the project. Their conversations about the universe were mind-blowing, and the album attempted to capture these in musical form. The band toured the album around the world, supporting The Stranglers, The Sisters Of Mercy, and Mark Lanegan, who called the Membranes one of his favorite all-time post-punk bands and said that "John Robb is a legend -- I'm truly honored to know him." MEMBRANES, THE Dark Matter/Dark Energy (Pink Vinyl) 2LP
Pink color vinyl version. The band toured the album around the world, supporting The Stranglers, The Sisters Of Mercy, and Mark Lanegan, who called the Membranes one of his favorite all-time post-punk bands and said that "John Robb is a legend -- I'm truly honored to know him." The Membranes were formed in Blackpool in the late seventies and were big John Peel and music press favorites with their innovative bass driven discordant "Death To Trad Rock" sound providing a template and influence for many bands over the years including Big Black, Mercury Rev, The Wedding Present and even the likes of the Lambchop who covered them. CUDDLING MONSTERS (ZENTASKAI & LAURA MERINO ALLUE) Cuddling Monsters_CM Vol. 02 12"
Arriving on a limited 200-copy translucent orange vinyl, "Dark REM" on Cuddling Monsters' second release on Mask Records is a hunched-over and direct dub techno cut with forceful drums and deft percussion, adding texture next to warm, sustained pads. There's a real sense of urgency in this most frictionless groove, which means it cannot fail to cast a spell on the dance floor. The fantastic "Event Horizon" is then infused with the aura of deep space -- sustained chords with a cosmic edge add vast scale to the well-programmed deep techno drums. "Monster Talk" is a mid-tempo dub track with underlapping drums and rattling, rusted chords that disappear to infinity. It's cavernous and evocative, with myriad little details occupying the mind. "Temporal Aura" is another standout sound that blends deep techno, dub, and minimal into a serene soundtrack that encourages inward reflection while driving onwards through the cosmos. Mask Records founder ZentaSkai and his creative partner Laura Merino Allue are Berlin mainstays helping shape the underground. Cuddling Monsters is a new project that debuted on the label in March, 2024. It is all about crafting music with analogue instruments, which they believe "offer distinctive sonic qualities, creative constraints, and genuine sound reproduction." They explore Detroit-infused house, dub techno and minimal soundscapes with raw edges and a great sense of atmosphere.

ZEROS, THE Don't Push Me Around LP
Restocked. The Zeros are a pioneer punk rock band formed in 1976 in Chula Vista, California. Comparisons with The Ramones are often made when describing the energetic and fierce guitar driven sound of the group. The first singles recorded by the band instantly catapulted The Zeros into a top draw on the local scene and have become legendary. Unfortunately, the band never cut an album during these days. This release compiles all their early singles, some rare tracks (including the previously unreleased "Left to Right") and songs taken from a 1978 live show. Munster are thrilled to reissue this essential '80s power pop gem as part of a series of releases celebrating Bomp! 50th anniversary. Their debut single was released in 1977 on Greg Shaw's very own Bomp! Records. It included "Don't Push Me Around" and "Wimp," two of the greatest punk rock songs of all time, both written by Javier Escovedo. It was followed by another single in 1978, "Wild Weekend" and a third one in 1980, "They Say That (Everything's Alright)." The first singles recorded by the band instantly catapulted The Zeros into a top draw on the local scene and have become legendary. Unfortunately, the band never cut an album during these days.

PERRY & THE UPSETTERS, LEE 'SCRATCH' End Of An American Dream (Red Vinyl) 2LP
"The End Of An American Dream is the 2007 album by Lee 'Scratch' Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry), who was a Jamaican record producer, composer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and the use of studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing tracks. From his Black Ark Studio in Kingston Jamaica, he worked with and produced a wide variety of artists, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, Susan Cadogan, The Congos, and Max Romeo. Later, he moved to Switzerland and reinvented himself as a performance and visual artist but continued to produce innovative music -- collaborations include The Beastie Boys, The Clash, Keith Richards, George Clinton, and Adrian Sherwood. The End Of An American Dream is the first in a series of three albums he made with English musician and producer Steve Marshall a.k.a. John Saxon and is available for the very first time on red color vinyl. BAKER, CHET Great Moments With Chet Baker (White Vinyl) 2LP
"The new compilation Great Moments With showcases the remarkable moments of Chet Baker's career, featuring both his vocals and trumpet work. It spans his final five and a half years, during which he collaborated closely with the Wim Wigt Timeless Records agency in the Netherlands. The album includes a mix of bebop and ballads, along with the previously unreleased bonus track 'But Not For Me.' During this period, Baker benefited from the agency's management, leading to fewer missed performances and increased fame. His relationship with Wigt and his team, including his girlfriend Diane Vavra, key figures like tour manager Peter Huijts and record engineer Max Bolleman, significantly enhanced his career. The double album traces his journey with Wigt, beginning with the opening track 'Ray's Ideas,' and the ballad 'Everything Happens To Me' and concludes with the previously unreleased track 'But Not From Me.' The album highlights his work with European musicians and features recordings from various sessions, including performances with Dexter Gordon's rhythm section, his own trio, and a rare live recording from Zagreb. The Great Moments With LP not only celebrates Baker's legacy but continues to inspire and resonate with new generations. Great Moments With is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on white colored vinyl. The 2LP includes new liner notes by Jeroen de Valk and is housed in heavy cardboard linen laminated gatefold sleeve."

MARCELO D2 & SAMBADRIVE Direct-to-Disc LP
Brazilian rapper Marcelo D2 presents this new direct-to-disc album via Night Dreamer. Recorded alongside electrifying live band SambaDrive, the album revisits some of Marcelo D2's most important tracks, mining 25 years of ground-breaking music from the Brazilian legend and capturing his now timeless "samba hip-hop" sound in full flow. A generational voice in Brazil who emerged in the mid-'90s as founder of hip-hop group Planet Hemp, Marcelo D2 has achieved the charmed status of both household name and musical innovator, collaborating with the likes of the late great Sergio Mendes and esteemed producer will.i.am. Since the release of his debut solo album Eu Tiro ? Onda in 1998, he has developed an instantly recognizable sound that skips between classic Brazilian groove and contemporary rap, guided by the motto "looking for the perfect beat." Now, in 2024, Marcelo D2 is telling his story again in a new light. Inspired by the iconic jazz-samba trios of the '60s and '70s, SambaDrive emerged from the improvised and often spontaneous jams that would preface Marcelo D2's live shows. Touring the world and reunited with producer Mario Caldato Jr., the group dropped in on Amsterdam's Artone Studio in October 2022 to record an album of ten tracks, drawn from four of Marcelo D2's most loved albums. The first of three tracks taken from Nada Pode Me Parar, "MD2 (A Sigma no TAG)" sets the tone for an album that bubbles with astute musicianship and virtuoso lyricism. Opening out into expansive jazz samba solos against which Marcelo D2's strident verses stand tall, "A Maldi??o do Samba" (which translates as "The Curse of Samba") shimmers with energy and intensity. Raising the pulse one notch more, "Desabafo" drops into a classic pianoled jazz samba groove, referencing the iconic sound of Claudia's 1973 track "Deixa Eu Dizer," which is sampled on the original. Taken from 2008 album A Arte Do Barulho, "Desabafo" showcases the stunning breadth of Marcelo D2's sound, traversing eras, rhythms and styles with ease. A celebration of Marcelo D2's legacy, an exposition of a master at work and as consummate a recording of live samba rap as you're ever likely to hear, Marcelo D2 and SambaDrive looks back to light a way forward, each track shining like a blueprint of the genre-defying hits they would become.

WHITEY Mental Radio CD
NJ White -- aka Whitey -- explodes out of the shadows with the announcement of his highly anticipated album Mental Radio. Pulling in influences from across decades of sound and putting it through the Whitey blender to create something musically fresh, Mental Radio is an album that in turn is furious, raw, amused, politically razor sharp and poignant, a satirical take on 21st Century life, a musical pop art collage. As an individual, Whitey prefers to speak via his work, and has eluded all interviews for well over a decade -- leading one journalist to describe him as "the musical equivalent of Bigfoot." Despite this elusive stance, his music continues to rack up many millions of plays and draw fans from all ages across the globe. Across a string of acclaimed albums, Whitey's music has made its mark, from rock'n'roll clubs to electronic dance floors, fashion catwalks to movie soundtracks, television to computer games, from Breaking Bad and the Sopranos to Grand Theft Auto. Whitey has built a strange home in the shadows between mainstream entertainment and the vanishing underground, an outsider who celebrates his outsider ethos in his work -- and yet whose music is embraced by both popular and alternative culture. Whitey is a prominent spokesperson for independent music -- his viral letter about "fair fees for artists" was shared 500,000+ times; and made Newsweek, The Times, BBC Worldwide, and the front editorial of Music Week. Whitey's back catalogue has previously received praise from the likes of The Independent, The Guardian, Record Collector, Uncut, and Rock Sound, to name a few. Vinyl is housed in a gatefold sleeve. SKALPEL Recut 2LP
Double LP version. Music from Skalpel's iconic debut for Ninja Tune, reinterpreted by top Polish producers! Poland's ambassadors of jazz-inspired electronics invited outstanding local producers of downtempo, dance music, hip-hop, and jazz to remix this album. The result is Recut, the best remix album in the history of Polish phonography. A record every bit as worthy as the historic original. It's an extraordinary tale of the past and present of Polish electronic music. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Skalpel's debut album, which was released by the famous British label Ninja Tune in 2004. The Polish duo, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pud?o, gained international acclaim by venturing into the then lesser-known territory of Eastern European jazz, updating it with electronic tools. Pitchfork enthusiastically praised the album: "On these tracks, Skalpel smudge the line between organic and electronic effortlessly, like a landscape artist working with charcoal, creating NoPaper Records deep nuances of light and shadow that give the work its overall depth. Its rhythmic dexterity and melodic sweep are hard to deny." Featuring remixes from Latarnik, Pejza?, Expo 2000, Magiera, Kacper Krupa, Zuchy, Emade, Zura, ETNOBOTANIKA, Steez, En2ak & Rafa? Dutkiewicz, Kixnare, Envee, Daniel Szlajnda, 2K88, and Pstyk.

TESTBILD! Bed Stilt LP
Matching breezy, Bossa nova-tinged sophistication with softly spiralling psychedelia, Testbild! arrive in the Quindi lounge as though they've always been there. On their 12th album, Bed Stilt, the Swedish collective cast their attention back to the earlier days of their 25-year trip through sweetly mysterious pop-not-pop rendered in warm tones and shot through with surrealism. The project was spearheaded by Petter Herbertsson in his hometown of Malm? in the late '90s, although the story on their website credits the inspiration and source material to a chance meeting and unpublished manuscript from a retiring scientist. The collective's evolution since then is a tangled web of facts and fiction spun by a revolving cast of collaborators including Siri af Bur?n, Katja Ekman, Rikard Heberling, Douglas Holmquist, Mattias Nihl?n, and Petter Samuelsson. Along the way, their music has touched on chamber pop, post-punk and modern jazz with the elaborate harmonies and catchy songwriting charm of the Canterbury scene. The tracks which make up Bed Stilt were in fact track recorded in Malm? back in the mid-'00s, lying in wait for the right opportunity to be brought to light with some delicate overdubs and finishing flourishes in the here and now. Tomas Bod?n -- better known as Civilistjavel -- lent some additional synth work as well as mastering the record. Musically, Testbild! stay true to their idiosyncratic approach on Bed Stilt with six immaculately rendered sojourns through lilting harmonies and brushed rhythms, feeling nostalgic but beguiling in equal measure. The finger-picking delicacy and languid harmonica of "Streams" strike a pastoral mood neatly countered by the elegant slide into dislocated ambience for the track's final stretch. By contrast, "And Her Eyes Are Red" surges with a big beat urgency which plays beautifully with the mellow jazziness of the chord sequences, boldly toying with song structure to dart down curious tangents without losing the immediate impulse of a great pop record. Somewhere in this tension between clarity and chaos we can understand the addictive charm of Testbild! -- a band steeped in the considerable craft of making accomplished and unconventional music so very easy to sink into.

VA 10 Years of Rhythm Section International 6LP BOX
Rhythm Section International, the impossible-to-define label founded in South East London by Bradley Zero in 2014 has reached the ripe old age of ten years. Funny thing is, it feels like it could have been almost double that. It's hard to imagine the Landscape of the London music scene without this foundational force whose influence is felt more than ever. With this special anniversary release, the label takes stock at this milestone to present a compilation in three parts: Past, Re-Imagined, and Future, to honor the label's tradition of always paying homage to what has come before while setting sights firmly forwards. With 100-odd releases in their extended back catalogue covering every imaginable style and boasting influence in every inhabited continent on earth, it's been quite a decade for the independent label, which began on a shoestring budget with funds made via the now legendary Rhythm Section pool hall parties in Peckham. From humble beginnings to an era defining output - few would have predicted the slow and steady rise of the imprint and the impact it has had on generations of DJ's, musicians and listeners -- at home and abroad. Spanning six discs and 30 tracks, the compilation begins by presenting one track from each year of the labels output -- highlighting some forgotten classics from the archives over the first two discs. For discs three and four, the label invited its stable of artists to pick a track from the back catalogue to re-imagine in their own style. This process resulted in some incredibly playful contributions from the likes of Ruf Dug, Session Victim, and Private Joy -- whose playful reinterpretations add new depth to old material. Finally, the last two discs are entirely new material for 2024, carrying the torch of the previous SHOUTS compilations -- whose sole aim is to shine light on new music from emerging artists. Featuring Prequel, Silentjay X Jace XL, Dan Kye, Mallard, Duke Hugh, Vels Trio, Astroturismo, Nicola Cruz, Special Feelings, Retiree, Local Artist, Jerome Thomas, MMYYKK, The Colours That Rise, CATO, Hiatt Db, Klein Zage, Wallace, Retromigration & Monty DJ, Bamao Yend? & Low Jack, RONI, Gayance, Magi Merlin & funkywhat, Pinty & Tomos, DJ Pitch & MLE, douniah & Dhanya, Nitai Hershkovits & Rejoicer, Frank Liin, and Cousin Kula.

Limited edition pressing of 500 copies worldwide. All pressed on olive green vinyl, housed in a full color sleeve with leather effect laminate, with hype sticker and black polylined inner bag. Continuing Riot Season's quest to get all of the classic early AMT albums released on vinyl, the label turns to 2006's Starless And Bible Black Sabbath, and with the help of Makoto Kawabata's studio wizardry, it is possible. This latest instalment in the Acid Mothers Temple Vinyl Archives - First Time On Vinyl series has been meticulously put together with the help of Makoto Kawabata with the original CD artwork recreated for these vinyl editions from archive photos stored in the vaults at the Acid Mothers Temple in Osaka, Japan and the original audio remastered by James Plotkin. Here's what Brainwashed.com had to say upon its original CD-only release back in 2006: "The title track is the meat of the beast, beginning with a minute of booms and gongs reminiscent of a thunderstorm before launching into some slow, heavy Sabbath-esque riffs. Squealing guitar and synth effects accompany the vocals of bassist Tabata Mitsuru, whose voice captures some of the sound and feeling of Ozzy's more than it does the melody. The pace is slower than most AMT fare, but things speed up considerably around the eight-and-a-half-minute mark."

WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTIONS Fly Hi/Gimme With Move D Remix 12"
Reissue alert! Whirlpool Productions' Fly Hi/Gimme appeared first in 1993 on the one time and made-up label 5th&Madison. The fascination that a young Justus K?hncke had for the then bubbling sounds, strictly rhythms and nu grooves of New York house music sparked the idea to join in the chant with a production of his own. Add his co-producer Fred Heimermann, the buzzing DJ and brilliant music journalist Hans Nieswandt, and a visitor from San Francisco named Eric D. Clark, the singer Heather Sachs and samples by Mel Torm? to the flamboyant picture and you know why the records sounds like it does: swinging house music through the lenses of a colorful cast or how some German people thought New Jersey's Zanzibar would sound. "Fly Hi" embodies the sophisticated deep and soulful approach, while "Gimme" satisfies the more hysteric approach. Favored and championed by DJs like Tony Humphries at the time, officially released by Snap's Logic Records and never vacated from Move D's record bag, it's reissued in all its glory for the first time on Running Back. Additionally, Move D puts his fingerprint on it with a disco leaning and upbeat remix of "Gimme." Extensive liner notes by Hans Nieswandt upon request. Life is still in hi-fly!

BYRD, DONALD Byrd Blows On Beacon Hill LP
This 1956 Donald Byrd quartet session, subsequently released in 1957 on Transition Records, sees the young trumpeter leading a Beacon Hill based rhythm section featuring bassist Doug Watkins, pianist Ray Santisi, and drummer Jim Zitano. The perfect line up for getting through a selection of classic standards such as "Stella by Starlight," "Polka Dots and Moonbeams," and "What's New." The atmosphere is easy and relaxed, and far from the hard bop/soul mood that later became Byrd's signature. This is a highly-sensitive quartet that swings lightly and without unnecessary overplaying but with just the right hint of blues to make the music highly intriguing. Clear color vinyl.

MORGAN, LEE Candy LP
Recorded in 1957 when Lee Morgan was only 19, and released on Blue Note in 1958, Candy sees the young trumpet genius as leader of a marvelous quartet featuring the infectious rhythm section of Sonny Clark on piano, Doug Watkins on bass and Art Taylor on drums. Being Morgan, the only horn he has plenty of space for showing his innate sense of swing and melody. The whole quartet shines throughout a repertoire based entirely on standards including both up tempo numbers and ballads.

S.Y.P.H. Pure Freude Singles 1979-1981 CD
With their unpredictable live performances and songs such as "Zur?ck zum Beton" and "Industriem?dchen," S.Y.P.H. caused a ruckus at the end of the '70s -- as one of the bands that began to write lyrics in German around D?sseldorf's Ratinger Hof (German '70s punk club equivalent to CBGB's, where D.A.F. originated). Right from the start, the band broke with genre-conformist expectations and borrowed from rock, punk and kraut just as much as from Dadaism and the reality of everyday life. Now, a reissue series sheds light on S.Y.P.H.'s first creative phase from 1977 to 1982. S.Y.P.H. formed in 1977 in Solingen and began playing concerts in nearby D?sseldorf. Initially clearly based on punk, the band's sound quickly developed and became increasingly difficult to categorize. In the intensive years that followed, S.Y.P.H.'s productions often featured guests from the D?sseldorf scene around Ratinger Hof or CAN's Holger Czukay. This is a collection of the band's early singles: four tracks - including "Industriem?dchen" and "Europa" -- were originally released in 1979 on the EP Viel Feind, viel Ehr. Thirteen further tracks -- including "Falsche Freunde" and "Knudelblues II" -- were released in 1982 as Der Bauer im Parkdeck. Three further songs are unreleased.

VA Als die Welt noch unterging: German Post Punk Underground 1979-1984 LP
LP version. Als die Welt noch unterging ("When the world was still ending") is a chronicle of the emergence and development of punk and new wave in German-speaking countries from 1979 - 1984. The apocalyptic sentiment around 1980 gave punk and new wave the necessary push. It led to an incredible outburst of activity and creativity. Against the backdrop of the nuclear armament, nobody believed that this world would have a great future anymore -- so suddenly everything was allowed, regardless of the consequences. This is the subject of a book by German author Frank Apunkt Schneider, in which he unfolds the history of the New German Wave and the German punk underground right through to the regional, cassette and fanzine scenes. To mark the 20th-anniversary of this book, a compilation curated by the author brings this period back to life. Featuring Autofick, Carambolage, Siluetes 61, Hans-A-Plast, Kosmonautentraum, Holger Hiller, Die Zwei, Family 5 Tagein, Rassemenschen helfen armen Menschen, Lustige Mutanten, Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle, Neues Deutschland, Die Egozentrischen 2, Male, B?rchen und die Milchbubis, Die Zimmerm?nner, The Wirtschaftswunder, Palais Schaumburg, Cretins, and Konstantin.

PAN AFRIKAN PEOPLES ARKESTRA 60 Years 2LP
In 1961, a giant awoke in South Central Los Angeles: a musically radical, deep-rooted, politically engaged band, its members drawn from the community it represented and served, and its music composed by them alone -- The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. The brainchild of pianist and composer Horace Tapscott, the Arkestra was intended to preserve Black music, nurture Black musicians, and above all contribute positively to community building in South Central LA. 60 Years celebrates six decades of his radical and uplifting musical and social vision. Digging deep into the Arkestra's archives, the album gathers breath-taking unreleased material, including previously unheard compositions, from every stage of the band's development -- from Tapscott's earliest iterations of the group, recording at home in 1961, to the current incarnation of the band, led by the new generation of young musicians. Tapscott passed on in 1999, but the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra was built to outlast him: over more than half a century it has stayed true to its roots and to Tapscott's vision, welcoming multiple generations of players into its fold, and celebrating their music. And with current leader Mekala Session -- son of the Arkestra's veteran altoist Michael Session -- at the helm, the Ark is still going strong. 60 Years selects a song from every decade of its life, show-casing a musical family tree that includes renowned musicians such as Arthur Blythe, Dwight Trible, Phil Ranelin, Butch Morris, Kamau Da?ood, Sonjia Maia Harper, Nate Morgan, Linda Hill, Adele Sebastian, Michael Session, Jesse Sharps and of course the late, great Horace Tapscott himself. Remastered from archival sources by the Arkestra's longstanding engineer Wayne Peet, 60 Years is presented by The Village -- a label operated by members of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. With archival photographs documenting the Arkestra's history, the album arrives with liner notes featuring track-by-track commentary from Arkestra members past and present. For decades, Tapscott's musical brilliance and the majesty of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra was almost unknown outside South Central. 60 Years is the sound of all this history emerging at last, and also of history in the making. To quote Zekkeraya El-Megharbel, Arkestra conductor and trombonist: "There's more to be said, but words feel like they don't do the job."

GREEN CHILD, THE Looks Familiar LP
Limited black bio-vinyl. 600 copies worldwide. Includes obi-strip and download card. The Green Child has grown into four people. Originally the recording project of Raven Mahon (furniture maker and member of Grass Widow, Rocky) and Mikey Young (recording engineer and band member of Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Shutdown 66), The Green Child now boasts Shaun Gionis (of Boomgates) on drums and Alex Macfarlane (who runs the excellent label Hobbies Galore) on guitar and synths. This invigorated quartet from Naarm/Melbourne began writing the group's third album Look Familiar in 2023, working up demos in rehearsals, animated by having live drums present in their chameleonic sound. The Green Child still draws heavily on a refined psychedelic pop, with Raven's scenically measured vocal often shadowing the ebb and flow, but the energy of having four people in the room resulted in making the songs more upbeat.

GHETTO BROTHERS Power-Fuerza LP
2024 repress. The Bronx in the 1970s, marked by the presence of notorious gangs, presented a complex and challenging urban landscape. Amidst the crumbling infrastructure and economic decline, neighborhoods bore the scars of disinvestment, reflected in abandoned buildings and neglected public spaces. The prevalence of street gangs, such as the Ghetto Brothers, contributed to an atmosphere of heightened tension and occasional violence. Graffiti adorned subway cars and buildings, expressing both social unrest and the vibrant creativity of the community. Despite the challenges, there was a resilient spirit among residents, evidenced by grassroots efforts to address social issues. The Bronx during this era was a dynamic yet tumultuous mix of cultural expression, social struggle, and the determined spirit of a community facing adversity. The Ghetto Brothers, originating from the Melendez family who moved from Puerto Rico to the South Bronx in the 1950s, faced challenges involving violence and crime. Despite this, Benjy, a key figure, directed the group towards community improvement. The Ghetto Brothers embraced music, crafting a potent, NYC-flavored musical fusion that caught the attention of record mogul Ismael Maisonave (Salsa Records). Their collaboration resulted in the recording of eight tracks in a single electrifying day at Manhattan's Fine Tone Studios, skillfully produced by Latin studio maestro Bobby Marin (Harvey Averne, La Lupe, Brooklyn Sounds). This musical odyssey showcases the band's ability to seamlessly blend genres, creating a NYC-flavored stew that captivates listeners with its authenticity. The hypnotic rhythms, infectious guitar riffs, and impassioned vocals reflect the Ghetto Brothers' commitment to expressing their unique experiences and uplifting their community through the universal language of music. Power-Fuerza is not just an album; it's a sonic testament to the Ghetto Brothers' fusion of resilience, cultural richness, and musical innovation. Each track is a vibrant tapestry, weaving together the raw energy of the South Bronx streets and the soulful melodies born from the trio's Puerto Rican heritage. Embrace the timeless resonance of the Ghetto Brothers' Power-Fuerza, one of the best Latin funk albums ever recorded.

NILSSON, HARRY A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night LP
"The phrase 'standards album' was unheard of in 1973, yet within 20 years it had become common parlance in the careers of artists going back to the basics to underscore their vocal prowess. With A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night, Nilsson created the template of the solo contemporary singer accompanied by a live orchestra, which set the bar for what followed from Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, Bryan Ferry, and countless others. The decision to make an album like this one would have been unusual for any contemporary artist around at that time, but it was especially strange for Nilsson. His two most recent rock albums had been incredibly successful, and RCA was surely clawing for another guaranteed hit, but, for Nilsson, this was just another twist and turn in his career. It is mind-boggling how far ahead Harry Nilsson was in recording A Little Touch. But where other musicians have turned to a standards album as a way to extend or even resurrect their career, Nilsson made one at his absolute artistic peak. No one has had the guts to do it like he did, before or since -- and Nilsson knew it. 180gram, double-gatefold black vinyl with tip-on jacket. BARRETTO, RAY Acid LP
"Ray Barretto's songs are cinematic. Artfully composed, richly orchestrated, each one feels like something deserving of big-screen wonderment. And, indeed, from Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets ('Ritmo Sabroso') and Oliver Stone's JFK ('El Watusi') to Lee Daniels' Precious ('Teacher of Love') to Tom McCarthy's Spotlight ('Cocinando Suave'), his music as a bandleader made it into movies of major importance across the decades. Of course, you don't need to be a card-carrying cinephile to appreciate the moods and magnitudes expressed by his work, especially his seminal 1968 album Acid for Fania Records. It takes more than a minute into Acid before Barretto begins showing off on the congas, leading into a nearly three-minute solo marked by fabulous flourishes that culminates with the full band, including pianist Cruz, showing their united might. Elsewhere on Acid, the group would have dutifully jumped headfirst into this mode, but here it is just a spectacular finish to a rhythmic story -- Barretto's story -- told like the best film you've never seen. 180gram orange vinyl in tip-on jacket. (AAA) Lacquers cut from tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. Listening notes booklet by Gary Suarez. Art print by Clay Conder."

HAYES, ISAAC Black Moses 2LP
"For all the name Black Moses conjures, for all that it confers, it was not a name Isaac Hayes gave himself; that title was bestowed by a radio DJ sermonizing an intro to one of his songs. It was not a name Isaac Hayes -- raised by his god-fearing grandparents in a former sharecropper's shed after his parents died before he turned two years old -- thought was even appropriate. It seemed sacrilegious to him. But that name, it meant something that even Hayes had to acknowledge. He had ascended to a plane that no Black performer before him had ever reached before. He topped the R&B charts and, eventually, the pop charts without ever having to compromise who Isaac Lee Hayes Jr. was. He had shown his people that James Brown's 'I'm Black and I'm Proud' edict was possible. He dripped in gold chains inside his album gatefolds and drove cars literally trimmed in it. Unapologetically. Black Moses towers as Hayes' crowning solo achievement. Its 14 songs stand as a 90-plus-minute testament to Hayes' nonpareil greatness, songwriting ability, singing, and arranging. A monument to authenticity, Black Moses projects a self-confidence so mammoth it feels like receiving the stone tablets of swagger down from the mountain of cool. Following half an electric album (Bringing It All Back Home) and a romping raw rocker (Highway 61 Revisited), Dylan renewed the sound he was seeking with number three. ROACH, FREDDIE Brown Sugar LP
"Freddie Roach's first three albums introduced him to the world, but Brown Sugar (1964, on Blue Note) showed it who he was. It was the album that Roach made to capture the energy of soul jazz. To somehow take the sounds in the city, in the clubs, and bring them to a record. In his original liner notes, Roach writes that the album is an ode to late nights and loud clubs, to backs damp with sweat, arms wrapped around waists. 'Not caring for the moment about troubles or problems,' he wrote of people dancing, 'their bodies quivering under smiles that seemed to promise 'after the dance.'' After talking to Alfred Lion, president of Blue Note, they decided that the album needed to be made up of standards -- not the standards of the stage or screen, but the standards of the people. 'To get the 'soul,'' Roach wrote, 'I decided to do show soul tunes.' 180gram black vinyl. Foil stamped. Mastering by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. Listening notes booklet by Ashawnta Jackson."

BIG PUN Capital Punishment 2LP
"The beats on Capital Punishment, from 'RZA,' 'Rockwilder,' 'Domingo,' and other A-list maestros, are grimy, radio-friendly, yet low-ley cutting-edge, affirming its status as an undisputed classic. Big Pun was as much a visionary -- conceptualizing every song -- as a consummate pro in the booth. Citing Picasso and Baby Jesus while purporting to 'twist your temples into pretzels,' Pun made Minute Rice out of multi-syllables. There's no way to describe Pun's febrile liberties with the king's English. He doesn't really breathe; when he does, it's a sharp gasp for air that almost mimics his Ginsu-like wordplay. Pun's habit of sucking wind before spitting an ill verse mimics the effect of a lit grenade about to land and decimate entire sections of the population. If Pun's dense rhymes invoke mixed metaphors, that's likely because he's an impossible amalgam of wanton wooer and lyrical hitman, an overweight lover with a murderous mouthpiece. Originally released in 1998 on Sony. Red and yellow color double vinyl in direct-to-board, widespine jacket. Mastered by Cicely Balston at AIR Mastering. Listening notes booklet by Will Dukes."

COLTRANE, ALICE Transfiguration 2LP
"Recorded live at a UCLA concert hall in April 1978 and released on Warner Bros, Coltrane plays piano and organ accompanied by Roy Haynes on drums and Reggie Workman on bass. The trio conjures both a universe and a universal consciousness; Coltrane has no qualms with the commingling of exhilaration and asceticism it demands of listeners. In fact, she demands that you come closer, to its tone and to your natural self. What this feels like in one aspect is Black music's Bonnie and Clyde fantasy realized. Alice and John were both fugitives from received values and ideas that felt too limiting, and their shared refuge was this sound that can only culminate in the spirit displacing and becoming the body through a series of collective gestures made both into song and a live ritual as is this album. There are very few pieces in the so-called American Songbook with stakes this high and encompassing in their insistence on transformation. One is John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, another, Transfiguration. Black color double vinyl in direct-to-board, double gatefold jacket. Mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. Listening notes booklet by Harmony Holiday."

PERKINS, DUDLEY Expressions (2012 A.U.) LP
"Available for the first time since its original release in 2006 via Stones Throw, Dudley Perkins & Madlib are pleased for the reissue of their sophomore collaborative LP, Expressions (2012 A.U.), their acclaimed follow-up to their 2003 debut effort, A Lil' Light. While the former can be accused of being excessively avant-garde, it's Expressions where both Perkins and the Beat Konducta find a more fluid symmetry. In everything from his collaborations with MF Doom and the late Jay Dee to his more recent pairing with Freddie Gibbs, Madlib is easily one of hip-hop's golden revolutionaries. At times his production has been accused of being sparse, but that's not the case with Expressions. This time around, Madlib's production is hitting all the funky corners with layered grooves that evoke the attitudes and emotions of A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory. Limited to 500 copies, the VMP exclusive version of Dudley Perkins Expressions (2012 A.U.) is pressed on opaque olive green vinyl at Precision Record Pressing (PRP). The LP comes in a single, direct-to-board, foil-stamped and numbered jacket."

OAAGAADA Music Of Oaagaada LP
Mysterious quartet Oaagaada has for some years been one of the best-kept secrets in the vibrant Finnish scene. Now, the band is ready to share their eagerly-awaited debut album on We Jazz Records. Oaagaada's music is "togetherness music" in the lineage and spirit of the great acoustic free jazz innovators, but always moving forward and developing on its own path. This music is far-removed from the sterile "contemporary hi-fi sounds" but it doesn't mean that it would be decidedly "lo-fi" either. Recorded at the band's home base, H?meenlinna's Odd Funk studios, this is simply how Oaagaada sounds, and their album rendition is true to the band's much-loved live energy. Music Of Oaagaada flows naturally, with the opener "Oag-Ada Sweet" clocking in at mere 52 seconds, and the longform four-part Suite Tuli ("tuli" is "fire" in Finnish) heating up the entire side B of the LP. "Seagull Shapes", driven by the meditative sounds of the shruti box, makes for thrilling listening and echoes the spirit of the likes of Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders without sounding that much like either of them. Live, Oaagaada is at home in acoustic settings which offer proximity and intimacy with their listeners. RIYL: Art Ensemble Of Chicago, ESP-Disk', Archie Shepp, Don Cherry.

SALMON (KIDDUS I, BAZBAZ & TCHIKY), THE The Salmon CD
The Salmon is the project of a legendary trio of "soul men" brought together to celebrate a long friendship, musical freedom, and creativity. Inspired by the original sounds of reggae, country, blues, and soul, they swim upstream like salmon, against clich?s and norms. Their journey delights listeners and transports them to distant, soothing landscapes that reconnect them with the essentials: the love of music. The group consists of three friends with well-established careers: Kiddus I, the reggae legend with an enchanting voice, the "Last Crooner on Earth," hero of the 1977 film Rockers, and a member of the Inna De Yard project; Bazbaz, a French pianist singer-songwriter with nine albums to his credit; and Tchiky, an outstanding guitarist who has been accompanying De La Soul for about ten years. After a first EP released in 2020 featuring the tracks "Enough is Enough" and "The Long Road," and a pandemic later, The Salmon finally resurfaced in January 2022 from the hills of Kingston, where the trio, finally reunited, will make Jamaica vibrate alongside seasoned musicians, both French and Jamaican, such as Delroy Wormbass, Viryane Say, Sly Dunbar, Christianne Prince, Pam Hall, Fabrice Colombani, Fonso, Yann Cl?ry, David Hadjadj, Flabba Holt, and Style Scott. Their first album is a pure Franco-Jamaican gem imbued with the native land of reggae and reflects the trio's desire to return to the roots of their inspirations.
