RUSIN, WOJCIECH Honey for the Ants LP
Wojciech Rusin presents Honey for the Ants via AD 93. Honey for the Ants completes an "alchemical trilogy," after The Funnel and Syphon. These albums are informed by mystical and gnostic texts, celebrating the weird, unhinged and occasionally beautiful. In this album the tonalities have shifted from mediaeval and renaissance to modernist dissonances. New singers and instrumentalists contribute to an emotional and textural richness achieved in a collaborative process. Distant musical periods, real and fictitious, are nonchalantly interwoven to create a delirious mongrel that salutes the imagination. Wojciech Rusin is a Polish-born audio-visual artist based in London. He draws inspiration from alchemical and gnostic texts, early renaissance choral music and Eastern European mythologies. He released Syphon LP on AD 93 in 2022 and The Funnel LP on Akashic Records in April 2019. He designs and makes 3D-printed reed instruments, reworking ancient designs with contemporary 3D modelling technologies. In 2020 he released Meat for the Guard Dogs on Cafe OTO's Takuroku digital imprint, and the Rufus Orbis cassette for Boomkat Editions/Documenting Sound series. His music has been featured on BBC Four and he has worked for The National Theatre and The Southbank Centre.

HAYDEN AND THE APPARITIONS, BRIDGET Cold Blows The Rain CD
The reinterpreted traditional folk songs that make up Cold Blows The Rain are shaped by the land and the weather. Wrapped in mist and drizzle, the crawling drone of low heavy clouds on flat-top moors. The sound of the dark Calder Valley floor and sun starved hills in West Yorkshire in the North of England. A must for fans of Karen Dalton, ?XN, Shirley Collins, and Lisa O'Neill -- it's found a home on local Todmorden label Basin Rock (Jim Ghedi, Myriam Gendron, Michael Chapman, Juni Habel, Trevor Beales). Bridget Hayden is a soul who found a home among the hills of Todmorden, the oddly-named market border town in West Yorkshire. The experimental musician, who invites the ghosts in for the classic folk songs that make up her stunning new album, knows only too well about the wind and rain, fog and mist, how rare and treasured the breaks from it are. Her favorite thing to do in the valley, she says, is "to make the most of every tiny minute of sunshine." Such aspirations nearly derailed the recording of Cold Blows the Rain, her new eight-song collection released via the Todmorden- based label Basin Rock. Having hired the town's Oddfellow's Hall to record these new songs in the late summer of 2022, Hayden says the weather was so good she ended up basking in every second of it, only moving inside to begin recording when the sun was setting, working deep into the night to make up the time. The songs that make up Cold Blows the Rain are not made for the sunlight. They come, instead, wrapped in mist and coated with drizzle, those elements shaping the album as much as the voice and the instruments held within, as real but ambiguous as the ghosts that linger in the shadows. The sound of the dark valley floor. Underpinned by waves of analogue reverb, and led by Bridget's stirring and weather-beaten voice, the songs on Cold Blows the Rain drift and crawl like low heavy clouds on flat-top hills, shaped by the land. The backdrop is equally as arresting, all subtle gloom cast in shadow, a gentle but pronounced swirling of textures, crafted from harmonium and violin courtesy of The Apparitions (Sam Mcloughlin and Dan Bridgewood-Hill). 180gm heavyweight black vinyl. Includes download code.

ASTATKE & HOODNA ORCHESTRA, MULATU Tension CD
Ethio-jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke joins the Hoodna Orchestra, Tel Aviv's number one Afro funk collective, melding his enchanting vibraphone playing with their brass heavy force across original compositions that play tribute to the classic Mulatu sound while forging fresh paths. Produced by and featuring Dap-King Neal Sugarman, the results are gritty, yet majestic, soulful and uplifting. Mulatu Astatke requires little introduction at this point. Born in Jimma, Ethiopia, Mulatu went on to live and study in London, Boston and New York. Initially drawn to and trained in jazz and Latin music, he developed the sound he called "Ethio-jazz" over a series of seminal albums combining jazz, Latin, funk and soul, with traditional Ethiopian scales and rhythms. Long a cornerstone of the Ethiopian recording industry, his albums and even guest appearances were long sought after by record collectors and music enthusiasts around the globe. Formed in 2012 on the south side of Tel Aviv, the 12-member Hoodna Orchestra is a collective of musicians and composers who initially bonded over a shared love of Afrobeat. They have gone on to incorporate psychedelic rock, hard funk and soul, jazz, and East African music into their sought-after releases, winning praise and airplay from the likes of Iggy Pop and Huey Morgan on BBC Radio 6 Music. The collective draws together a huge array of musical talents such as guitarist Ilan Smilan and organist Eitan Drabkin of Sababa 5 fame, Shalosh trio drummer Matan Assayag, and percussionist Rani Birenbaum of The Faithful Brothers, many of whom also contribute compositions to the orchestra, ensuring its collaborative environment. Over time, members of the orchestra came to find they shared a growing interest in Ethiopian music, particularly the Ethio-jazz of Mulatu Astatke. One can imagine the band slowly marching out of the venue through the crowd at the end of their show, the audience clapping in time with the orchestra's brass and percussion, recalling another legend, the late great Sun Ra. On one hand, Tension is clearly a deeply personal tribute by the Hoodna Orchestra to iconic Mulatu Astatke, but at the same time the recordings emit a remarkable amount of chemistry, and together they have created an essential addition to Mulatu's rich discography that charts new directions in his Ethio-jazz trajectory and provides the Hoodna Orchestra with their strongest album to date.

CALDWELL, BOBBY What You Won't Do For Love/Open Your Eyes 10"
Be With presents the first-time reissue of the first ever heart-shaped red vinyl 45. Extremely limited! The smooth titan of blue-eyed soul, Bobby Caldwell transcended genre tags with consummate ease; he was a musical icon of real class and versatility, cherished the world over. Here are two timeless masterpieces of sophisticated jazzy soul brilliance that are strictly canonical. The originals of these red heart-shaped vinyl records go for stupid money -- if you can find one in good condition. Here's your chance to snag a real collectors item for fans of Bobby and, well, LOVE, the world over. The eternal "What You Won't Do for Love" became a national anthem. It perfectly captured Bobby's ability to infuse a contagious groove with introspective and relatable lyrics. With its instantly recognizable horn riff and Caldwell's soulful delivery, this timeless, chiller anthem continues to captivate audiences and define his musical legacy. A perennial favorite, it has been heavily sampled, such is its unique allure; Aaliyah sang over snatches of it on "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" and you can hear Caldwell's vocal sample used for the hook on Tupac's posthumously released "Do For Love." Bobby's dynamite "Open Your Eyes" was immortalized by the eternal J Dilla in the hip-hop canon with his production of Common's epochal "The Light," which heavily samples the magical "Open Your Eyes." On a post paying tribute to Bobby in March 2023, Questlove claimed that he "got word Brother Bobby loved it." Bobby's original has seen new life even more recently from the likes of Dwele and Kendrick Lamar and deservingly so, as its insistent drums and staccato piano created a modern-soul classic.

CALDWELL, BOBBY Cat In The Hat LP
2025 repress. Bobby Caldwell's second album, Cat In The Hat, from 1980, is a work of soulful sophistication. Featuring the eternal "Open Your Eyes", sampled by J Dilla for Common's "The Light", it's about as essential as records get. Like its eponymous predecessor, it's been out of print for far too long. Whilst Ned Doheny is known in Japan as "Mr California", native New Yorker Bobby Caldwell has always been "Mr AOR" to his Far-Eastern friends. His distinct charm is an irresistible blend of soul, jazz, and pop influences. He possessed phenomenal songwriting prowess, smooth vocal performances, was both a great soul guitarist and dextrous keyboard player and known for genius chord progressions. It all added up to a multi-layered brilliance entering the studio, and the singular sound he landed on was laced with soulful, sweeping strings and funky horns, touching lightly on disco, while allowing his supple voice to carry the stunning tracks he'd crafted. Bobby sadly passed away on 23rd March 2023, after a long struggle with mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress, due to an adverse effect from a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The reissue of Cat In The Hat will be available on vinyl across the globe, ensuring that fans -- and soul music enthusiasts worldwide -- can radiate in the deep beauty of this seminal album. Remastered and cut by both Simon Francis and Cicely Balston respectively, it has been pressed at Record Industry in Holland.

AMULETS Not Around But Through LP
On Not Around But Through, Portland-based experimental musician and tape wizard Amulets navigates the process of acceptance and the tumultuous journey of looking within. Over the course of eight tracks, he explores the emotional path of moving through rather than circumventing, in the process soundtracking a purposeful desire to face trauma and vulnerability. The Asian-American artist is one of the most gifted alchemists working at the intersection of experimental and heavy music today and this riveting album represents his most direct and immediate work yet. Infusing his trademark ambient soundscapes with ambitious blends of post-hardcore, emo, and metal, Not Around But Through connects the dots between personal and social dislocation, leaving listeners with a taste of the fragmented and fallen future they are all steeling themselves for. Traversing a landscape that varies from gentle and meandering to explosive and cathartic, Amulets uses cinematic tension and relentless attention to detail to construct his sonic apparitions. On "Lifelike" he collaborates with Midwife, incorporating Madeline Johnston's voice into a song that pulsates with post-shoegaze transcendent energy. Amulets' second album for Beacon Sound and his first new music in four years; his 2021 album The Blooming was released by The Flenser.

ISHIHARA, YOU Passivite LP
Passivit? is the entrancingly beautiful debut solo album from You Ishihara, the founder of Japan's legendary White Heaven. Originally released on CD in 1997, it received scant attention. Since then, it has steadily gathered adherents, who, like P.S.F. Records founder Hideo Ikeezumi, have praised its tremendous depth and discovered that they experience something new each time they listen. The album draws from rock and psychedelic music, the sounds of '60s America as well as elements of jazz, bossa nova, soul, and even electronic music. Joined by a choice group players including Michio Kurihara (White Heaven) on guitar, Chiyo Kemekawa (Yura Yura Teikoku) on bass, and Koji Shimura (Acid Mothers Temple), Ishihara creates an enigmatic late-night meditation that unfolds in a cool darkness pierced by scattered flashes of light and heat. Listening back today, Passivit? sounds timeless and encapsulates the concepts and brilliance that have marked Ishihara's near 50-year career and standing as a key figure in the history of Japanese underground music. Black Editions presents Passivit? for the first time on vinyl in a meticulously remastered deluxe edition with notes by Masato Matsumura (Studio Voice, Tokion) and by Shinji Shibayama (Nagisa Ni Te, Org Records). Pressed to high quality vinyl at Record Technology Inc. Housed in a metallic silver tip-on jacket with gloss film laminate finish, matte pigment stamping, two inserts with liner notes in Japanese and English.

AMAMI Wrong Way/Wrong Way Dub 7"
The Swiss trio AMAMI returns with Islands, a new EP featuring four explosive tracks along with their Dub versions. Following the success of their previous projects Giant and Soleil, the group continues to explore the intersection of Dancehall, Dub, and Afro-Pop, while staying true to their live approach, without sequencers or computers. Issued from the EP comes "Wrong Way." The track kicks off with a powerful Jamaican influence, mixing steppa, rockers, and dub into AMAMI's signature explosive fusion. This track, a real dance floor igniter during the group's European tours, is an energetic bombshell that turns every set upside down. In addition to the original song, the 7'' features a Dub version, paying homage to the Jamaican Dub scene. For this remix, AMAMI collaborated with Dub legends Vibronics from the UK. These bold reinterpretations honor the genre, emphasizing bass, drums, and sound effects like delay and reverb, all while staying rooted in a dynamic and experimental vibe that invites dancing.

OTTE, HANS The Book of Sounds 2LP
Performed by Carlos Cipa. The new recording of The Book of Sounds is an intimate exploration of the piano by pianist Carlos Cipa -- a way of looking into the sound, of listening into the moment when Cipa's fingers press down on the piano keys. The Book of Sounds, composed between 1979 and 1982 by composer and pianist Hans Otte, is a musical pendulum movement of one hour in twelve "pieces," as the composer himself describes them. Chords and melodies repeat themselves, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly; they follow each other in harmonic cadences and yet never dissolve -- a timeless back and forth. The Book of Sounds is the European-German answer to the concert music of American minimalism. But it is also the essence of many questions about society and the human condition at that time. Inspired by Zen Buddhism, Otte was convinced that a return to simplicity, to the unagitated -- a piano, harmonic cadences, a middle register -- frees the listener to focus on what is really important in art: the human being. Introspection begins with listening. Seldom have simple chords and melodies been so selectively staged. It is a process of endless reduction -- no wild sound dramaturgies, no climaxes, hardly any beginning or end. The interpreting pianist simply prepares a tableaux of perception for the listener. Cipa naturally sets accents; he recorded the 12 pieces on three different pianos -- a Steinway grand piano, a Yamaha piano, and a Yamaha CP-70, an early electric piano -- to help shape the tonal characteristics. Carlos Cipa hits the nerve of the times with this new recording. What music can be as art is still up for debate today. The Book of Sounds is not "art-proof" and in this it is still a provocation today; absolutely unspectacular and practicing relaxation. It is a wonderful invitation to feel, experience, and perhaps even find oneself in the confrontation with the work -- and for a moment not to fuel the discourse. Cipa, who otherwise appears as a composer himself, here carries out Otte's intended gesture of withdrawal in a double sense and steps into the background as creator but also interpreter, in order to bequeath The Book of Sounds to the loudspeakers and headphones at home in one step forward.

KING TUBBY Explosive Dub LP
2025 restock. "There are very few people who define a genre the way King Tubby defines dub. From the early days of dub in the 1960s, King Tubby (born Osbourne Rodduck) influenced a generation of producers across a variety of genres and continued to do so until his death in the late 1980s. While King Tubby was known for experimenting with different sounds, he was also truly never one to settle for mediocrity. Flexing his signature dub muscle on 1975's Explosive Dub, a compilation of various Tubby gems 19 tracks long, the true beauty of his ability is brought to light. It's obvious to the listener that King Tubby spent hours perfecting each track and remix before releasing it to the public. Explosive Dub, a previously hard to find collector's item is a shining example of King Tubby's work. Though many of these tracks have been previously released by different labels on a variety of dusty pressings and formats, Clocktower's reissue of Explosive Dub features audio mastered from the original analog tapes."

BESTIA ASTRUM Fury 161 CD
The debut album from Bestia Astrum (aka Abby Helasdottir/GYDJA) is a grim exploration of Fury 161, the prison planet from the movie Alien. An industrial ambient travelogue of the spaces in the planet's dark and rusty facility, beginning on a wind-swept shore and ending in the eternal repose of stony sleep. More than just an alternate soundtrack to a film, Fury 161 takes cues from the long and troubled production of Alien, incorporating themes from earlier concepts proposed during its development hell, including the treatment created by Vincent Ward, who imagined the movie's location as a wooden planet that was home to an order of space monks. Motifs of eremitic religiosity permeate the album, as well as themes of Yeatsian apocalypticism, abject anatomy, and the intersection between the sacred and the profane, betwixt the beautiful and the grotesque. Full color matt-laminate digipak with gold spot color, accompanied by a 16-page booklet with an essay by Abby Helasdottir.

The Anti Group Communications (T.A.G.C.) was devised by Adi Newton and Steven James Turner as early as 1978 as a multi-dimensional research and development project. PITCHSHIFTER Peel Sessions 1991-93 CD
Cold Spring present the first ever release of Pitchshifter's legendary BBC sessions for the late, great John Peel. These ultra heavy industrial metal tracks were recorded over two sessions at the iconic Maida Vale studios: 28th April 1991 and 30th March 1993 and were sourced directly from the BBC Archives (with thanks), with careful remastering for CD and vinyl. The 1991 session was recorded during the same period as Industrial, with the 1993 session recorded around the time of Desensitized. Founded in Nottingham in 1989, Pitchshifter's early style was heavy industrial metal, being cited as one of the originators of the genre along with Godflesh -- a style which they termed "Death Industrial". These sessions and albums mark the end of that classic period, before a shift towards the more commercial, beat-driven Industrial style from the mid-'90s onward that they are still known for.

SEA OF WIRES, THE The Sea Of Wires 2CD
The Sea Of Wires were a very early '80s electronic duo hailing from the industrial wastelands of Coventry. Followers of the German electronic scene of the time (Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Popol Vuh, Cluster etc), Chris Jones and Tony Murphy used elements of Kosmische Musik in their compositions, with a variety of warm synths, analogue effects, and layered experimentation. This double-CD collects cassettes which appeared on their own Sea Of Wires label: Individually Screened (1980, then 1981 on the famous Flowmotion label); Chris Jones' Diversions (1981, featuring Murphy on synth); and Beyond The Edge Of Tomorrow (1982), representing the absolute peak of their sound. These tracks appeared as a double LP on the illustrious Vinyl-on-Demand label back in 2014 as part of the massive 12LP boxset 80's Minimal Synth. Wave Vol.2, but are presented here on CD for the first time ever. FFO early Human League, Vice Versa, We Be Echo, Tangerine Dream. Double CD in a matt-finish gatefold ecopak.

MCPHEE, JOE Straight up, Without Wings: The Musical Flight of Joe McPhee Book
Restocked. In Straight Up, Without Wings, Joe McPhee surveys sixty years in creative music. Starting with his trumpeter-father's influence and formative years in the U.S. Army, McPhee recounts experiences as a Black-hippy-cum-budding-musician based in upstate New York, perched at an ideal distance from Manhattan's free jazz demimonde of the 1960s and its loft scene of the 1970s. A natural storyteller, revealing never-told tales and reveling in the joys of noise, McPhee puts the influence of -- and encounters with -- Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, and Albert Ayler into the context of an independently-minded young player, ravenous for experience, dealing with the crucible of racism, seeking to break out beyond the bounds of a regional Hudson Valley scene that he knows like the back of his hand. The memoir draws forward through thrilling passages in Europe and across the United States, as McPhee gains momentum, as his music becomes the impetus for multiple record labels, as he collaborates with figures from Peter Br?tzmann to Pauline Oliveros, and as he eventually goes on to inspire musicians far and wide. Written as an oral history, deftly conducted by Mike Faloon to preserve McPhee's unique narrative voice, Straight Up, Without Wings includes "reflections" by eight musicians from across the protagonist's rich history. Photography: Ziga Koritnik, Ken Brunton, John Corbett. First printing, edition of 1000. 166 pages. Dimensions: 8.5" x 6" x .5".

MAD REY Please Don't Wait 2LP
"After a stay in Detroit in 2022 (where I met some of the artists whose music I admire the most), I returned to Montreuil, illuminated and brimming with energy. I had my MPC2000XL repaired, found a second-hand Yamaha Motif ES6 at Zikplace in Croix de Chavaux, and a Korg Triton on Le Bon Coin. The three instruments connected together rekindled my practice of electronic music in my home studio. Passionate about the new setup, I tried to record a little each day. After two years of work, I felt the desire to bring together the eight tracks that brought me the most joy during their recording. A certain nostalgia and/or melancholy can arise from the sounds of the instruments used, each dating from the late 1990s. They plunged me back into the house and R&B clips that played on MTV when I was a pre-teen, which I adored. The recording is raw and conveys a message of peace, humility, and unity. It pays homage to the early hours of house music. The title of the project, Please Don't Wait, is simple and refers to the passage of time, urgency, and the present moment. It's a message that invites movement and action." --Mad Rey

SAHIN, MELIKE Akkor LP
Singer, songwriter and composer Melike ?ahin presents her new album Akkor. An empowering assertion of survival that propels traditional Anatolian pop and folk influences into the future, Akkor rises like a phoenix from the flames to reintroduce the Turkish superstar diva to an international audience. An expression of ?ahin's personal growth, the album is an affirmation of her growing status as the voice of a generation, and hose lyrics have been adopted as a call to rights for the women's movement in Turkey. Recorded live in London with producer Martin Terefe (London Brew, Buika, Jamie Cullum), Akkor features a selection of the most talented and forward-thinking musicians on the scene, including guitarists Dave Okumu and violinist Raven Bush, as well as Sterling Campell (David Bowie) on drums, Glen Scott (Eric Bibb), and Nikolaj Torp Larsen on keyboards. Bringing an international feel to her heart-rending performances, the record represents the most focused and complete expression of ?ahin's sound to date. Powerful and vulnerable in equal measure, Akkor demonstrates an orchestral grandeur and a dramatic flair drawn from ?ahin's love for traditional Anatolian pop and folk music, injected with the urgency of contemporary production. Bound together by ?ahin's inimitable voice Akkor skips between Middle Eastern melancholy and classic disco hedonism, for an album that is as stylistically open, pluralistic and affirmative as the messages the music carries. Akkor -- which translates as "candescent" -- finds Melike rising again and burning brighter than ever before.

COLTRANE, ALICE Monument Eternal Book
Hardcover. 12.6" L x 9.8" W (2.75 lbs). 192 pages. "Edited with text by Erin Christovale. Foreword by Ann Philbin. Text by Franya J. Berkman. Interviews by Ashley Kahn, Erin Christovale. Rashid Johnson, Cauleen Smith and others pay tribute to a truly extraordinary figure in 20th-century American jazz. This volume unpacks the cultural legacy of musician, spiritual leader, wife and mother Alice Coltrane. Accompanying the eponymous exhibition at Los Angeles' Hammer Museum, the book takes its title from Coltrane's 1977 autobiography and devotional text, Monument Eternal, in which she reflected on her newfound spiritual beliefs and the path to healing and self-discovery. Coltrane was 'ahead of her time,' as her son, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, says: she was 'one of the first people to move outside the mainstream, and certainly one of the first female, Black, American jazz musicians to record her own music in her own studio, and to release music on her own terms.' Alice Coltrane, Monument Eternal explores themes including spiritual transcendence, sonic innovation and architectural intimacy. The project juxtaposes works from 19 contemporary American artists with pieces of ephemera from Coltrane's archive -- including handwritten sheet music, unreleased audio recordings and rarely seen footage -- to honor her cultural output and practice. Alice Coltrane was born in Detroit in 1937 and took up music at an early age, beginning piano lessons at seven years old. In 1967 her husband, saxophonist John Coltrane, gifted her a harp, on which she went on to record seminal albums including Journey in Satchidananda and A Monastic Trio, making her one of the very few harpists in the history of jazz. Coltrane moved to Southern California in 1972 and founded the Sai Anantam ashram. She lived and worked in Los Angeles, where she died in 2007 at age 69. This book was published in conjunction with Hammer Museum."

DE MASI, LUIS BACALOV, PIERO UMILIANI, STELVIO CIPRIANI, FRANCESCO Digitmovies Collection Box Franco & Ciccio 5CD
Five OSTs from Francesco De Masi, Luis Bacalov, Piero Umiliani, and Stelvio Cipriani. Per Un Pugno Nell'occhio: De Masi composed and conducted an orchestral comment alternating between dramatic and comical passages enriched with delicious Morriconian citations typical for the cult Leone movies. The record opens with gun shoots (reprising the opening credits style characteristic for some Leone westerns) that introduce "Titoli", a funny theme with the great harmonica sound of Franco De Gemini accompanied by Jewish's harp, bell tolls, organ, harpsichord and fast vibe passages. A masterpiece from the Silver Age of the Italian Film Music, luckily rescued. 2 Samurai Per 100 Geishe: This unprecedented OST was written by Nico Fidenco and Luis Bacalov. Despite the humor in the film, the OST is very orchestral and dramatic as it develops, with a recurring oriental feel. The authors put together a mystical holy melody which is contrasted with many battle motifs. Digitmovies used the mono master tapes from the original recording session. I Due Sanculotti: The soundtrack of the film was entrusted to Maestro Umiliani, (1956-1984) a prolific author of soundtracks who was active from 1958 to 1984. He made his debut as a musical composer for film, in 1958 thanks to Mario Monicelli, who called him to compose the musical score for the movie I soliti ignoti. Given the success of the film, in the following years Umiliani was called by the great and good of Italian cinema. From comedies starring Tot? or Franco and Ciccio to espionage, from westerns to thrillers, from documentaries to drama all the way up to horror. I Due Par?: Maestro Umiliani composed a funny circus theme for "Head credits" alternating with the music of the atmosphere with an Arab flavor, to western-style Deguello music, Waltz, Mexican Mariachi, American march, a wild South American dance music for trumpet, and suspense. I Due Della Formula 1 Alla Corsa Piu' Pazza, Pazza Del Mondo: Stelvio Cipriani composed a brilliant OST with an amusing recurring main score with a touch of beat style. The author recalls the score in different versions and alternates it with a love theme in Bossa tempo, and with adventure-style music with harp interventions for the gang of bandits who try to make life difficult for Franco and Ciccio.

FRANCI/FRANCESCO DE MASI/ROBERTO NICOLOSI/ MARCELLO GIOMBINI/BRUNO, CARLO Digitmovies Collection Box Peplum 5CD
Five OSTs from Carlo Franci, Francesco De Masi, Roberto Nicolosi, Marcello Giombini, and Bruno Canfora. Il Gladiatore Invincibile: Carlo Franci, also known under the pseudonym Francis Clark, studied in Rome with Goffredo Petrassi. He is an orchestra conductor and a composer for theatre productions. For this film the composer wrote a symphonic score to describe the heroic endeavors, where dramatic and violent passages for the battle scenes are alternated with a romantic and nostalgic love theme which is gloriously reprised in the finale. For the realization of this CD, Digitmovies used the mono master tapes of the recording session which took place over half a century ago and have been kept in good condition until now. Gli Schiavi Pi? Forti Del Mondo: Francesco De Masi composed and conducted a symphonic OST with heroic tones alternating with robust action music and a sweet love theme along with cheerful and comical passages. For this CD, Digitmovies used the master tape that half a century ago was assembled for the release of the original LP, and have added new previously unreleased material, including a rare stereo mix which has been properly restored and remastered. A dutiful homage to artistic music by the unforgettable Maestro Francesco De Masi. La Regina Delle Amazzoni: This CD was made possible thanks to the mono master tapes from the recording session which were kept in excellent condition. Robert Nicolosi composed and directed a symphonic OST containing all the classical elements of Peplum, but with an interesting idea. The main score is modern (for that time period), but there are hints of blues, jazz and swing, which the composer dances between again and again. This creates a soundtrack with two dimensions. Le Sette Fatiche Di Ali' Bab?: For this CD Digitmovies was able to use the mono master tapes of the original recording. The author composed a recurring main score in a Middle Eastern Arabian Nights style, alternating between suspenseful music and music with violent and dramatic motifs for the battle scenes. Giombini transforms the main melody into a delicate and exotic love theme, contrasting with the exciting action scenes. La Regina Dei Tartari: For this CD, Digitmovies used every note contained in the mono master tapes of the original recording session. Maestro Canfora, for this particular OST removed the strings and used only the brass, woodwind and percussion. These create atmospheres with an ancient flavor, between heroic and mysterious, alternating with vigorous music for battle, and the recurring presence of a delicate love theme.

ROSSELLINI, PIERO UMILIANI, CARLO SAVINA, GIANNI FERRIO, RIZ ORTOLANI, RENZO Digitmovies Collection Box Commedia 5CD
Five OSTs from Renzo Rossellini, Piero Umiliani, Carlo Savina, Gianni Ferrio, and Riz Ortolani. Il Segno Di Venere: The mono master tapes of the original recording session have survived in excellent condition. Digitmovies has used every note recorded to assemble the entire OST. The main score is cheerful, but also vaguely contemporary in orchestration. The music reflects a Roman setting and the relationships between the characters involving love, jealousy and loneliness. Il Vigile: At that time, RCA had issued an extended-play in mono with four selections. For this CD Digitmovies was able to access the original recording session in mono which allowed the label to create a CD containing the complete OST as well as material from the extremely rare LP. Maestro Umiliani composed a very pleasing OST which, in its various musical nuances, perfectly embodies the comic vein of the great Alberto Sordi. Il Moralista: Only a 45rpm EP was recorded for this film, with the main score written by Franco Migliacci and Carlo Savina and performed by Fred Buscaglione. Nothing had been previously released from the instrumental OST, but thanks to the mono master tapes it was possible to release all of Savina's background music. This CD contains the song from the opening credits, and a single with a different intro. Travolto Dagli Affetti Familiari/Il Vizio Di Famiglia: Gianni Ferrio is without a doubt one of the biggest names in film music. He used his immense talent to create music for Gialli films, Westerns and erotic comedies and also left an unforgettable mark in Italian television and pop music. For this film, Gianni Ferrio composed an enjoyable score where the recurring main melody is happy and carefree for the male protagonist and is alternated with romantic orchestral phrases. For Il Vizio Di Famiglia, unfortunately a country style song is missing, which is played during the scene where Edwige Fenech is on a motorcycle (but it could also be archive material). The composer created spirited and funny background music played by an orchestra and synthesizer, which is alternated with lounge music with sounds of pop music as well as the mysterious moods of giallo films. Geg? Bellavita: Riz Ortolani composed "Nun me scucci?," the brilliant and funky main theme sung in Neapolitan by the protagonist Flavio Bucci, which describes Geg?'s laziness to work and his passion for women. This pleasant motif returns in an instrumental version, alternating with a recurring upbeat tarantella in a pop version, and a romantic love theme. This is another CD that enriches the discography of one of the most beloved composers in the world.

MICHELINI/FRANCO MICALIZZI/MANUEL DE SICA, LUCIANO Digitmovies Collection Box Poliziesco 5CD
Five OSTs from Luciano Michelini, Franco Micalizzi, and Manuel De Sica.La Polizia Accusa: Il Servizio Segreto Uccide: Luciano Michelini created symphonic background music that alternates romanticism with drama and mystery. This CD opens with the theme of the opening credits, a dark motif produced by strings, percussion and piano which is reprised later in the film. Da Corleone A Brooklyn: Franco Micalizzi composed and conducted an OST which contains all the elements of a genre that still has a large audience of loyal enthusiasts, even after decades. The nostalgic main theme is performed by an orchestra with wind and rhythms typical of this genre. Maestro Micalizzi wrote a second recurring theme, a motif with a pop flavor that we hear in a version sung by a male voice with an orchestral accompaniment and guitar accompaniment which is reprised in several fast and slow orchestral versions. For this CD, the stereo master tapes of the original recording session were used. Genova A Mano Armata: Franco Micalizzi wrote one of his best OSTs for the Poliziesco genre with this one. The OST opens with the strong main score written for woodwinds and percussion, which is then reprised with different arrangements throughout the film. It is also alternated with moments of suspense. For this CD, the master tapes of the recording session were used. La Banda Del Gobbo: Franco Micalizzi composed and conducted one of his most iconic OSTs for the crime drama genre with this soundtrack. Within the soundtrack emerges a recurring main theme, using a Moog synthesizer, that is then developed by an energetic woodwind section. It is then reprised in slow and fast versions. Camorra: Manuel De Sica wrote an orchestral comment based on a recurring symphonic tarantella, which is the main theme retaken in symphonic version or with a solo guitar, alternated with lounge tracks like "Rough", sung by De Sica himself, who was 23 years old. RCA printed a promo LP, put together by De Sica, 30:30 minutes long. In 1994 the same material was printed on CD, paired with "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis" Digitmovies were able to have access to the original session mono masters, which brought the label to discover some unpublished material.

JUSTICE Audio, Video, Disco 2LP+CD
2025 repress, with CD format included. Justice, the French duo formed by Gaspard Aug? and Xavier de Rosnay -- the band of a whole generation. When the two friends were still bright students in graphic design, in 2003 they made Justice a place to experiment a hybrid genre between music and image, which blends pop and electronic borders, and showcases the talents of two fascinating, passionate pop culture craftsmen, bored with hierarchy. They met Pedro Winter, who had just founded his label Ed Banger Records -- he immediately signs them after listening to "We Are Your Friends," which, with its joyful and vitamin-enriched electro beats combined with exhilarating voices, became the hymn of a whole generation and one of the most important tracks of the year 2000, celebrating a reconciliation of pop music and the dancefloor. It was awarded an MTV Video Award in 2007, bringing about the famous live TV appearance with Kanye West outraged that his million-dollar clip was outclassed by a home-made bomb. (Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, Justice, Ed Banger and So_Me became a constant source of inspiration for Kanye and his superstar rapper colleagues. Kanye even employed So-Me as director for the video for his hit song "Good Life"), Jay Z will use "D.A.N.C.E" for his next album. From now on, the duo's ascent was constant and then lightning struck: remixes for N.E.R.D., Britney Spears, Franz Ferdinand, U2, Daft Punk, Lenny Kravitz and an EP in 2006 (Waters Of Nazareth) defining the "Justice sound," this famous ultra-powerful compression of pop and baroque melodies, both dark and threatening; lightning and animative; and above all, the famous Justice image, the cross from which an earlier version figures on the first EP. 2007 was the explosion that would turn the duo into the emblem of a whole generation: their first album, anticipated like the Messiah, swept everything away as an epic soundtrack and was more than a magnificent synthesis of our time. 800,000 sales worldwide and 4 years later, the album is considered a mainstay of the 2000s -- one of the few who bridged the gap from the Pitchfork world to MTV without losing its credibility. Housed in a mindfuckingly deluxe gatefold sleeve.

WOLF EYES & ANTHONY BRAXTON Live At Pioneer Works, 26 October 2023 LP
LP version. Formed 29 years ago (1996) by Nate Young, Wolf Eyes is currently a duo generally characterized as "noise," though they have called themselves "psycho jazz" (among other things). Extremely prolific, they have literally hundreds of releases and are a towering presence in underground music. Saxophonist Anthony Braxton was an early member of the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) and has won a MacArthur and been named an NEA Jazz Master, though his work is hardly confined to jazz. He's also an extremely prolific recording artist, debuting on record in 1968. Braxton famously first heard Wolf Eyes at the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville and immediately bought all the band's CDs that they were selling that night; a year later, they made their first album together, Black Vomit (also a concert recording). Their new untitled album (calling it Live At Pioneer Works, 26 October 2023 is merely a way of helping people distinguish it from their other collaborations and to give it a vintage) is the third Wolf Eyes/Braxton release. The LP has no track titles or even side designations. ESP has tried to keep that same spirit in the other formats."Both parties clearly understand what the other stands for and adapt their approaches accordingly. Braxton purists are in for a solid headache, of course, but something really clicked between these artists, and it was all in good fun. As far as Wolf Eyes' discography goes, this is also one of their best-recorded albums." --Fran?ois Couture, All Music Guide, regarding Black Vomit

HIGOR, NYRON Nyron Higor CD
At the forefront of a rising wave of Brazilian artists captivating international audiences, Nyron Higor brings a quiet yet potent sense of wonder to his new self-titled album. Born in Macei?, Higor's latest work is rooted in the traditions of Northeastern Brazilian music and golden-era MPB. Within the peaceful surroundings of his home, Higor weaves these roots together with global influences and contemporary production techniques, for a uniquely dreamlike vision of hope. Following the success of his self-released debut Fio de L?mina -- an instrumental record of delicately balanced rhythmic and harmonic patterns, which earned support from tastemakers like Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, and John Gomez -- Higor's new album is a move towards a more expansive, lyrical exploration of transcendence and triumph. Taking his demos and unfinished tracks to S?o Paulo, Higor worked alongside friends and collaborators from Brazil's vibrant contemporary music scene -- including fellow Maceioense artists Bruno Berle, Batata Boy, and New York-based Brazilian vocalist Alici Sol -- assembling a rich musical landscape and a cutting-edge development on the musical world from which he emerges. For Higor, the process of recording and producing in close collaboration with Berle and Batata Boy allowed him to fully cultivate the emotive power of his compositions. Album opener "Ciranda" sets the tone with a slow frevo rhythm, as wistful trombone melodies and melancholic acoustic guitar harmonies create an atmosphere both intimate and grand. Lead single "S?o S? Palavras," featuring Alici Sol and Bruno Berle, captures both the lightness and depth of young love in an all too fleeting minute-and-a-half moment of soaring brilliance. Building upon the instrumental sound of his debut, "Louro Cantador" with its playful organ, birdlike whistles and elegant acoustic guitar, emanates a kind of rare natural beauty, as each sound dances amidst the gentle pulse of Higor's bass. Through ten carefully crafted tracks, Higor's acuity for sound and silence draws listeners into a place that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. This album is a testament to the timeless themes that define Higor's artistry, as well as his creative drive to overcome the obstacles he faces. Conveying his feelings of jubilance for his work, Higor notes, "This work is liberating, contemplative and victorious!" Each track invites the listener to experience the raw intimacy, the joy and longing, and the otherworldly ingenuity of Brazilian music, which seems to endlessly keep listeners coming back for more.

GREEN COSMOS Abendmusiken LP
The music of Green Cosmos makes listeners realize that their never-ending quest for love can find fulfillment. You take a long, slow breath and feel the magic of transcendent wisdom. It's like looking up from your room to the brightly lit windows of the home of your neighbors. Might someone be standing there, watching? Listen to Abendmusiken and imagine what life would be like if you were one again with God's original ideas. Green Cosmos enchant listeners with their blend of jazz, the sound of heartbeats, emotional outburst, and folk-music. There is not one note too many, and everything gets to the heart of the matter. A saxophone that sails ahead on a world-map of sound, driven by the beat of Kalimba and drums, sometimes fraternizing with a bass that's now insistent and then shy, and closely listens to a reassuringly omniscient piano until the music merges into a unit that's greater than its parts. It's no exaggeration to say that this band has created something new and unique, and that the excellence of the moment got captured in this recording. This, quite simply, is beautiful and exciting music that steers us through the night. And if you are standing by a window seeing someone looking at you from their window -- give them a wave!

FOWLKES, EDDIE "FLASHIN" The Truth EP 12"
FREQ003 introduces a vinyl repress of the iconic The Truth EP by Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes, a pioneering figure in Detroit techno who played a crucial role in shaping the genre's early sound. Originally released in 1995, this timeless EP is a testament to Fowlkes' distinct blend of raw, soulful techno and deep house. The FREQ team has meticulously remastered the tracks, ensuring the warmth and energy of the original production is preserved. A key inspiration for our narrative has been the origins of techno and the way it became commercialized and streamlined for the capitalist market, with the original creators losing control of the genre. The label has woven this concept into its story, though it's expressed in a more coded and abstract form. Given the deep influence that Detroit Techno and its early pioneers have had on both FREQ lore and its team, it is a true honor to feature Eddie Fowlkes on the label. FREQ Records is the record label accompanying the manga FREQ, created by Nicola Kazimir, illustrated by goodnewsforbadguys, and written by the legendary Dai Sato, who has written scripts for Ergo Proxy, Eureka Seven, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, among many others.

TARWATER Silur CD
Originally released on the Kitty-Yo label, Silur was the third "proper" album from Tarwater and to many was the pinnacle of their lengthy recording career. Although in recent years the duo have angled towards more of a "pop" sound, back in 1998 when Silur appeared it genuinely shook up the indie rock world with its fusion of melancholy slow-core, electronic soundscapes and the kind of smoked jazz loops you would more likely have expected to hear on a library record. Basically, with all that electronic knowhow and songwriting expertise this duo set the scene alight with Silur and it's an album that still manages to sound hugely enjoyable decades.

GEMINI 4 Gemini 4 CD
It started as an experiment, freestyling in the low-tech glamor of Melbourne's Soundpark studio, no rules, no speaking, no plan. Gemini telepathy wrought wild. Total delirium. The soundtrack to a film Kubrick never made. Guided by Neptune retrograde. Gemini 4 is the project from Hugo Race (Dirtmusic, ex-Bad Seeds) and Michelangelo Russo (The True Spirit). Their electronic take on the blues, John Lee Hooker's World Today, evaporated critics and audiences in 2017, merging the blues master's legacy with a psychedelic and hypnotic atmosphere, expanding the sonic space and shifting towards a more electronic horizon. In Gemini 4, they have reached that horizon, and it has become the space itself in which they experiment beyond limits in a zodiac-flavored brew of instrumental electronica somewhere between soundtrack and chillout.

RACE & THE TRUE SPIRIT, HUGO Starbirth/Stardeath 2CD
Hugo's True Spirit deliver a lush, sonic love letter of rock, electronica and dramatic orchestration, based in blues, hypnotic repetition and sonic exhilaration. Michelangelo Russo is a huge part of this atmosphere; his approach to music is that of an artist with a palette of mysterious implements and machinery, but the entire band and production is incredible from start to finish. Starbirth is 48 minutes of mind expanding, mind blowing, heel tapping tunes. Starbirth is international maverick and music icon Hugo Race's 15th album with his band of True Spirits. CD version (GRAM 2009CD) contains bonus disc Stardeath, recorded at the same session as Starbirth but only available digitally and on compact disc. Stardeath is a dub version of remixes that will send you searching for your own exploding star somewhere in the sky.

RACE/MICHELANGELO RUSSO, HUGO 100 Years CD
Hugo Race (Dirtmusic, Fatalists, ex-Bad Seeds) and Michelangelo Russo (True Spirit), fuse rock, blues, ambient and electronic sounds on their raw, compelling new album 100 Years. In 2017, the duo released John Lee Hooker's World Today, a tribute to the blues legend's delta blues legacy reinvented in a swirling mix of analog grit and deep trance pulses. 100 Years showcases the duo's sonic chemistry against Race's stark songwriting. Inspired by the raw majesty of early blues recordings, the album was recorded in two days in a non-stop live Hugo Race and Michelangelo Russo 100 Years session. Amplified harmonica, open-tuned guitars, smoky vocals and primal foot beat walk listeners through a landscape of dreamlike devastation, a hypnotic wall of sound suspended in time and space celebrating endurance and redemption, hand-made from ancient roots.

WYATT E. Zamaru ultu qereb ziqquratu Part 1 LP
LP version. After two years in the making, Wyatt E. seals their long-awaited return with the highly anticipated narrative sequel to ?l b?l?ti d?r?: Zam?ru ultu qereb ziqquratu Part 1 ("Music from inside the Ziggurat"). This is the first chapter of a set of two concept albums in which the band deepens its exploration of ancient Babylon with an almost mythical approach through the eyes of the exiled captives from Jerusalem. Featuring contributions from seven international collaborators, Zama?ru ultu qereb ziqquratu is poised to become one of the most ambitious projects in the doom scene in terms of production and conception. The album pushes sonic boundaries by featuring two drummers recorded simultaneously, creating the immersive effect of distant crowds. An eclectic mix of instruments, including the saz, viola, sitar, and bugle, blend with both analog and digital elements to enrich the soundscape. A nod to Turkish composer Faz?l Say is also present, with a quotation from his symphony Mesopotamia. For the first time, two vocal tracks appear alongside the instrumental pieces. Iranian singer Nina Saiedi lends her ethereal voice to "The Diviner's Prayer to the Gods of the Night," sung in Akkadian, while Jerusalem's choir conductor, Tomer Damsky, delivers a captivating performance of Im Lelya in Aramaic adding a deep vocal layer to the album. The final mix, crafted by renowned producer Tim De Gieter, known for his work with Amenra, Brutus, and Absent in Body, brings everything together with a masterful touch. VA Spiritual Jazz 17: SABA/MPS - Esoteric, Modal and Progressive Jazz from the Saba & MPS Labels 1965-78 CD
"High quality music to be enjoyed by many people all around the world, no matter where they are." --Andreas Brunner-Schwer, MPS Records. The German SABA and MPS family of labels extended this sentiment to include music from musicians all around the world, no matter where they were from -- and here on Spiritual Jazz 17: SABA/MPS, Jazzman explores that very theme. Throughout the '60s and '70s both labels released a wealth of music from a wealth of international jazz musicians coming from both North and South America, Europe, the Caribbean and the Far East. The aim was to release jazz that was exciting, innovative and interesting, regardless of style: there was swing, blues, bop, avant-garde, fusion -- and spiritual jazz. Plurality became a defining feature and the immense breadth of their output made both SABA and MPS worthy European counterparts to American imprints such as Blue Note and Impulse. On Spiritual Jazz 17: SABA/MPS Jazzman features, among others, international contributions from Americans Elvin Jones, Nathan Davis, and Dave Pike, Europeans Pedro Iturralde, Jef Gilson, and George Gruntz, and the Japanese Hideo Shiraki. The extensive liner notes outline the history of the SABA and MPS labels, and go some way to explain the spirit and philosophy behind the long-standing record company and the musicians who bore their souls to the recording process. Friedheim Schulz, who oversaw many of the sessions, has fond memories: "These guys had ideas, they had their special thing, it was the time when there were lots of ideas and new sounds and what have you, and [SABA proprietor] Hans Georg was always of the mind that people should do their own kind of music. So he gave them the chance to record and then he would just put out the albums and that was it! The musicians would really play what they wanted to play." Their great legacy is a lineage of music that has transcended the fatigues of time, and Jazzman has picked prime examples from the SABA and MPS catalogues to uphold its own legacy in the long-running series of Spiritual Jazz. Also featuring Tony Scott and the Indonesian Allstars, Albert Mangelsdorff Quartet, Orchester Roland Kovac, Fritz Pauer, and Joachim K?hn Group.

QUARTETO NOVO Quarteto Novo LP
First reissue in 25 years of the Brazilian jazz holy grail, licensed from Universal Music Brazil. A mix between traditional music of northeast Brazil, bebop, jazz, and folk to create an organic sound. Featuring Hermeto Pascoal, Airto Moreira, Theo De Barros, and Heraldo Do Monte. Quarteto Novo only released one album, yet they number amongst one of the more in?uential acts in Brazilian music. Originally set up as a "Trio Novo" by a pharmaceutical company who wanted a live band at an event, they were then picked up by Geraldo Vandr? (who was, at that time in 1966, the winner of a Brazilian music popularity competition) for a tour of the Brazilian northeast. After the tour, the trio -- comprised of a very young Airto Moreira (percussions), composer, solo artist and soundtrack composer, producer and arranger Theo de Barros (bass and subsequent guitarist) and Heraldo do Monte (guitar) who also went on to have a fairly successful career -- was joined by multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal. Recorded in 1967, this was the first album for Airto, and it was a hugely in?uential release -- mixing the traditional music of northeast Brazil with bebop jazz and folk. Quarteto Novo emphasized northeastern Brazilian music and acoustic instruments for an "organic" sound. This first reissue in 25 years of this holy grail is a must for any lover of Brazilian jazz, samba and folk music. Jazzybelle is a new label launched by Olivier Rosset (founder of Chronowax) and Elvin Pagiras, from Modulor (key French distributor who are also behind renowned reissue labels We Want Sounds and Le Tr?s Jazz Club). Jazzybelle will be focused on Brazilian musical gems, but not exclusively.

MAZUREK, ROB Nestor's Nest LP
Rob Mazurek graces the Keroxen Records waves with a genre defying album of field recordings, modular electronics, trumpet harmonies and spirit call chants. An unstoppable force since his first recordings in the early '90s, Rob Mazurek has been at the forefront of experimentation and adventurous improvised music for most of the last four decades. The American composer, cornetist, and visual artist has been developing his own style of improvisational music with a myriad of collaborators, too many to list but amongst them true giants of the 20th and 21st century music cannon like Bill Dixon, Pharoah Sanders, Jeff Parker, Roscoe Mitchell, Yusef Lateef, and Nan? Vasconcelos amongst many many others. Nestor's Nest is yet another addition to Mazurek's mammoth catalogue of cosmic unity, coming like a spur of the moment whilst staying at Nestor and Pura's house in Tenerife during the Keroxen Festival edition of 2023. Dead time doesn't exist for the American cornetist and whilst hanging at the organizers house Mazurek decided to record and interact with his colorful tropical surroundings. Mangos, Papayas and Star Fruits all make an appearance here as does the quietness of an idyllic garden juxtaposed with Mazurek's stormy interferences, unleashing his modular synths and other acoustic paraphernalia into an ecstatic mix of pure celestial energy. As he beautifully states on the albums back cover: "Fruit from the trees of life, Stop All War. Stop the Killing, Open the senses, Breath. Listen. Feel!" Made from field recordings in and around the Keroxen Tanque and the House of Nestor and Pura in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Final mix at Marfa Experimental Studio, Marfa Texas. Mastered by Daniel Baez.

SANTUCCI, ENZO SCOPPA, PIERO UMILIANI, CISSI Olimpiade LP
The reissue of 1972's Italian jazz funk classic, directed by Il Maestro Piero Umiliani. Trumpetist Francesco "Cicci" Santucci and saxophonist Enzo Scoppa cut their teeth in the late '50s, playing with the Italian group Modern Jazz Gang, along with other Italian jazz greats such as Sandro Brugnolini and Amadeo Tommasi. In June 1971, "il maestro" Piero Umiliani made his Sound Workshop recording studio in the heart of Rome available to them, so that they could create an album under his supervision. The result was Olimpiade, a jazz-funk album featuring Franco d'Andrea on electric piano (who would go on to play with the group Perigeo a year later), and Belgian musician Joel Vendrokenbrak on organ. It should be noted that this session was also released on Dire, under the name On the Underground Road, but is here reissued for the first time with its magnificent original cover. A poster of the artwork and a printed insert featuring the Sound Workshop studio are also included with this reissue.

PEVERELIST Pulse Echo 12"
The fourth instalment in Pev's Pulse series finds him further widening the scope of his sound as he touches on the distinct energies which inform his unique strain of soundsystem techno. "Pulse XIII" deals in stark, tweaked-out acid lines cutting through a taut drum machine backbone, balanced out with a sci-fi pad which lets you know its Pev at the controls. "Pulse XIV" finds him dialing up his jungle roots once more for a dreamy excursion into diced up breaks, cascading synths and dislocated piano chord chops. There's a deeper dub techno spirit to "Pulse XV" and "Pulse XVI" deals in the raw, bleep-informed jack tracks that have started to creep into Pev's sound as the Pulse series has evolved. Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

HEAD & THE STRANDS, MICHAEL The Magical World of The Strands LP
2025 repress. Highly-anticipated vinyl represses of this stone-cold classic. Now comes with new gold foil embossed artwork. After a couple of demos for the French promoter who paired him with his childhood hero Love's Arthur Lee in 1992, Pale Fountains and Shack legend Michael Head entered a Liverpool recording studio the following year, with a new project in mind, The Strands. Michael teamed up with his brother and lifelong companion, John, his long-time drummer Iain Templeton and two new recruits, Michelle Brown on bass and Les Roberts on flute. The recording sessions would last two years and were only halted because Michael was offered a new major label deal. A deal, not for his current work, but for him to record as Shack again. So it came to be that Stephane Bismuth, the French promoter, was left with 100 or so minutes of a thwarted project, only a third of which had made it to the mixing studio in Sheffield in the summer of '95. Patch-working and weaving rough mixes and sketches -- by engineer Steve Powell, made in Liverpool -- with completed mixes by producer Mark Coyle who had hired an arranger and string section for sessions in Sheffield, Stephane Bismuth founded a new label Megaphone and finally released The Magical World of The Strands, in autumn of 1997.

GYPSY MITCHELL Love Is... Infinite LP
Love Is... In?nite is the debut album from Dallas soul artist Gypsy Mitchell. Born in 1952, Gypsy co-founded the legendary gospel funk group The Relatives (Heavy Light/Daptone) in 1970, then spent the following decades on the Chitlin' Circuit playing guitar alongside R&B and funk titans such as Buddy Ace, Johnnie Taylor, The Bar-Kays, and Joe Simon. Gypsy's raw vocals evoke Bobby Womack and Darondo, his guitar Nile Rodgers and Ernie Isley, yet this isn't a reheated retro number but ten deeply personal 30th-century soul songs from an authentic Texan artist who manages to blend vintage, modern and interstellar sounds in the most natural way. Guests include Houston rap legend Paul Wall, Hi-Rhythm keyboardist Archie Turner, and arranger Pete Lanctot (Aaron Frazer, Durand Jones & the Indications). Lovingly produced by Zach Ernst and Matthew Strmiska (Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears), Love Is... In?nite is a refined, quintessentially Texan record that blurs the boundaries between vintage soul and contemporary psychedelic and breakbeat sounds. Despite all this, the album's grace lies in the brilliant songwriting and musical knowledge of an artist devoid of cynicism and calculation, who just says what he has to say.

POTTOK, SIAN Deep Waters CD
The debut album from French singer-songwriter Si?n Pottok. A unique sound enriched by horns and electronic textures. Featuring Mamani Ke?ta, NNEKA, Abou Diarra, and Sanseverino. Deep Waters is much more than just an album. It embodies a "here and now" where the raw intensity of the earth and the yearning for a new vibration intersect. Si?n Pottok has found this unique balance in the Kamele Ngoni, a traditional West African harp the practice of which she has been perfecting for several years. Surrounded by layers of brass and electronic sounds, she invites listeners to dive into a universe where every note is a nugget of emotion, a vibrant echo of the times. With this record, Si?n asserts herself with the strength and simplicity of a landmark debut album, in the tradition of visionary artists such as Bj?rk and Joni Mitchell. With Valentin Couineau as producer and Cyril Atef (Matthieu Chedid, Brigitte Fontaine, Bumcello) on drums and percussion, Si?n surrounds herself with talented musicians who enrich her compositions with singular textures. Exceptional collaborations with NNEKA, Mamani Ke?ta, and Abou Diarra also enhance this album. Deep Waters is a powerful and authentic work, a sonic voyage that promises to leave a lasting impression.

EMBRYO Opal LP
2025 restock; LP version. 180 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve. The Munich based band Embryo was founded in 1969. Opal was their first album. Released on the OHR label in 1970, the band led by Christian Burchard combined numerous genres into a huge crossover project. Jazz-rock, folk, blues, soul, contemporary music, and world music. Even if Opal doesn't sound as perfect as later recordings, the album is considered very influential. Embryo themselves describe their style as follows: Pop music is the appropriate level of communication for Embryo, just as they found their origins in all musical styles, from folk blues to jazz soul to serious and contemporary music, the musical past of Embryo's musicians is also connected to such different styles. The group has always remained true to this motto: Always open to new things and gladly committed to improvisation. In the 50th year of the release, the original magnetic tapes have been re-recorded and carefully remastered.

CHILDREN OF THE MUSHROOM Children Of The Mushroom CD
With only one 45 released back at the time, Children Of The Mushroom epitomized the psychedelic-garage sound coming out from California in the late '60s. Formed in Thousand Oaks by Jerry McMillen and Dennis Swanson, they evolved from a mid-'60s teen-beat band called The Captives. In 1967, they became Children Of The Mushroom, a name which reflected their new psychedelic sound and image. The following year, they caught the attention of a couple of young producers, who signed the band for a 45 release. Recorded in 1968 for Soho Records, "August Mademoiselle"/"You can't erase a Mirror" is one of the masterpieces from the first psychedelic era: feedback, fuzz, organ, and mysterious vocals. Soon after, the band incorporated a new guitar player, shortened their name to The Mushroom and started playing in a more heavy-psych vein, in a similar style to Iron Butterfly. This retrospective album includes both tracks from their monster 45 with sound taken from the masters plus previously unreleased tracks by The Mushroom, recorded in 1968. These are raw, lo-fi home recordings (some of the tracks were recorded in a real garage!) with lot of fuzz guitar and organ. It's the sound of a psychedelic band in 1968 playing free and wild, without any producer or record label executive telling them what to do. An incredible document. CD version includes two newly discovered bonus tracks: fantastic live renditions of the two songs from their 45 recorded at a band reunion in 2006.

VA Sunrise Dream 12"
Sunrise Dream is a collection of tracks designed for those who know and value those moments when music creates a suspended space, a boundary between the real and the dreamlike. This vinyl version captures that essence, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in sounds that mingle with the early morning light. Each track has its own unique character: Jonny Rock's "Legenda" opens the record with a purposeful groove, while Thanksmate's "Take A Chance" adds a more meditative undertone. With "Oceano," Dobao takes listeners into a deep, liquid dimension, followed by the hypnotic rhythm of "Whirlwind" by Giammarco Orsini. Hiver, with "The Frontier," explores electronic landscapes that move between tension and release, while Sam Goku's "Lucid Oscillation" concludes the compilation on airy, floating notes. Sunrise Dream on vinyl offers a tactile and immersive experience, a sonic journey designed for those who experience music as a ritual, for those who seek detail and atmosphere. These tracks are fragments of a collective idea, a synthesis of shared moments that find new life with each listen.

PASSARANI, MARCO Digipack Vol. 1 12"
Roma techno legend Marco Passarani dusts off his Studiomaster moniker to present a selection of vibey dancefloor burners on 12" vinyl brimming with energy and packed with 303 squelch, thumping drums, moody synths and perfectly-placed vocal cuts. Marco took the Studiomaster name from his Studiomaster P7 console, which he runs his in-the-box mixes through, to bring extra dirt and character to his tracks. The Studiomaster alias first appeared on the Passarani Bandcamp page just as summer began in 2023. The newly built B.K.S. studio space was running smoothly, and the machines have been buzzing ever since, as Marco fires off vital, futuristic, acid-drenched club tracks, under pseudonyms like Passarani 2099, Analog Fingerprints, and Kids of Rotten Future. In contrast to an internet full of streaming files and AI generated artworks, the Studiomaster brand brings the look and feel of rare 12" white label promos, minimal on design and information. The tracks here are collected on vinyl for the first time, "They represent proper studio jam sessions," says Marco "meant to be performed in the club. There are no songs here, just pure dance floor tools!" And it's to those in the club that this release is dedicated: to those still dreaming about the future while dancing in the dark.

CHANT 1450 RENAISSANCE ENSEMBLE + SYLVAIN CHAUVEAU A Modern View on Early Music CD
The recordings on A Modern View on Early Music show a bold mix: breathtaking a cappella interpretations of the Octonaires de la Vanit? du Monde by Paschal de L'Estocart (1582) and pieces from the Geneva Psalter (1562) meet the reworkings of Sylvain Chauveau. The voices of chant 1450, trained in early music, sing these pieces with lyrics about transience full of emotion and elegance. Sylvain Chauveau processed individual pieces electronically, whereby transience remains sonically present in his always surprising versions. The reworkings do not take early music as a fixed, quasi-museum repertoire, but as a starting point for something new -- everything is in flux, is reinterpreted, changes. A wonderful stream of fantastic music emerges, with ancient and contemporary music coming closer together than one might initially expect. Le Beau du monde -- A Modern View on Early Music, is the second collaboration by chant 1450 and Sylvain Chauveau after Echoes of Harmony - Early Music Reworked (SR 447CD, 2017), both released by Sub Rosa.

LEVY, CLARA Outre-Nuit: Performing Scelsi, Saariaho, Vega, Houben CD
Outre-nuit as Outre-noir by Pierre Soulages displays the greatest nuances on subtle variations. Between Clara Levy's two original compositions is Giacinto Scelsi's "Xnoybis" (1964), a piece that makes you feel like you're listening for the first time. It is a journey amongst the reliefs contained within one single pitch. Written in three parts, the piece is an instinctive approach to the sound spectrum (the term "spectral music" was coined a decade later). Next comes a nocturne by Kaija Saariaho, which focuses on the sound material metamorphosis. Erika Vega and Eva Maria Houben, two young female composers, close the program with their own pieces. All pieces performed by Clara Levy. Levy (1991) is a French violinist and improviser living in Brussels whose career is mainly focused on new music performance. She has been developing solo project addressing different topics at the core of contemporary music practice: the blurred lines between interpretation and composition (13 Visions) or the listening experience and dramaturgy of the concert (Outre-Nuit).

ESSYAD, AHMED Moroccan Electroacoustic Music 1972-74 CD
Composer Ahmed Essyad was born in Sal?, Morocco, in 1938. After studying music at the Rabat Conservatoire (Morocco) he moved to Paris in 1962, where he became a student of Max Deutsch and, later, his assistant. Trained in the avant-garde practices of Western musical composition, he also claimed the Amazigh folk music of Morocco as a fundamental source of inspiration for his work. In 1965, he was already incorporating elements of oral tradition in his work so as to question the language of his time, and therefore had to cope with the limits of musical notation and communication with musicians who did not share his cultural references. It was difficult to agree on what was implicit, "behind the notes," especially regarding the management of musical time and micro-intervals. In search of new compositional tools, he turned to electro-acoustic music. Working in a studio made it possible for him to be the interpreter of his own work, which ensured a certain continuity with music of oral tradition. The pieces presented here were produced between 1972 and 1974 in a studio dedicated to electro-acoustic music, the S.M.E.C.A, which was part of the Music Workshop founded by Jorge Arriagada in Paris. The studio was equipped with EMS and Minimoog synthesizers, a piano, a marimba, a xylophone, as well as various percussion instruments and a tape delay system. The practice of electro-acoustics may have been a mere parenthesis in Ahmed Essyad's long and prolific career as a composer of contemporary music, but the works presented here are nonetheless important. They show how strongly he both supported North African popular forms of expression and opposed its folklorizing through simplistic and "exotic" representations. It's not about fusing together East and West -- impossible, he says: "the real point is to open up an imaginary space where another modernity can exist outside the largely Eurocentric framework of avant-garde music. Synthesis means anticipation, knowledge. As for me, I'm increasingly ignorant. I write to discover what I don't know. Music feeds me, it pollinates me. It's my daily wine."

Her compositions, strongly rooted in tradition, are resolutely contemporary, seeking out the paths of modernity through their intersection with other musical universes. She has been living and working in France for several years, collaborating on a wide range of projects, notably with the Ensemble Chak?m and the band Atine. Mount Jacinto is the creative vision of Costa Rican artist Sonya Carmona, formerly a member of Colornoise and Las Robertas. Inspired by the majestic Mount San Jacinto in Palm Springs and the expansive landscapes of Northern California, Sonya sought to embody a sense of freedom and openness in her new musical project. The band lineup includes Gini Jungi of Annie Taylor on guitar, drummer Adrian Oesch, and a touch of Latin American flair with Peruvian Joel Morales on bass and Mexican Yan-Cey on synthesizer. In their music, chamber music elements intertwine with gentle bass lines reminiscent of Air's Moon Safari and melodic compositions rooted in raw alternative rock. Their debut EP, Outward Signs, released in March 2023, explores modern pop-rock psychedelia with a groovy touch of twang. The album was recorded with JooJoo Ashworth from Froth and mixed by Alex Newport (Bloc Party etc.). The title track, "Silver Lining," is a standout on the album, showcasing the evolution of Mount Jacinto's sound over recent years. The debut album Silver Lining is more than a collection of songs -- it's a deeply personal journey through love, loss, and self-discovery. Created during a period of transformation in Sonya Carmona's life, it captures raw emotions and the resilience required to find one's true self. Tracks like "Forest" delve into the path to self-acceptance and the importance of confronting inner struggles, while "The Reason" explores the inner dialogues people have during pivotal moments. The album blends heartfelt, intimate lyrics with lush, soulful soundscapes. Musically, Silver Lining combines classic '60s and '70s influences with a modern indie vibe. It reflects the profound changes Carmona has experienced, offering listeners a moving musical journey.

LEWIS, J. D. (PUMA) Shake It - Make It Loose LP
The Outer Edge presents a true gem on the label: the first-ever vinyl reissue of the highly collectible Shake It - Make It Loose LP by J.D. (Puma) Lewis. Originally released on the infamous Metrovynil label in 1984, it stands as the best and most authentic boogie/'80s funk album ever produced in Germany. However, little is known about this legendary release, and the credits are sparse and often confusing. In reality, Shake It - Make It Loose was a collaboration between just two musicians: John Davis and Reginald Hudson. Both were first-class, highly talented musicians and composers from the U.S., who spent most of their lives living and working in Southern Germany. The combination of their musicianship and the cutting-edge technology at the studio resulted in a masterpiece of pure, state-of-the-art funk and boogie. The album features all the hallmarks of great '80s music: fresh synths, drum machines, and powerful lead vocals from John Davis. As said, these sessions took place at Hartmann Digital, a state-of-the-art studio in Untertrubach, Bavaria, where iconic artists like Nena, Yello, Visage, DAF, and Soft Cell recorded. The use of such an expensive studio would have been out of reach for the two musicians without Puma's backing, which also explains why there is a title like "Dancing Shoes." In the end, the album was signed to the Deggendorf-based Metrovynil label. The original pressing looked and sounded fantastic, featuring a stylish cover shot of John Davis in a sharp suit. Now, with this first-ever vinyl reissue, The Outer Edge is thrilled to include additional photos and more background information in a deluxe gatefold sleeve. This reissue includes all six tracks from the original Hartmann Digital sessions, plus two bonus tracks. From the original reel tapes, the label unearthed additional material that Hudson and Davis produced together in the early to mid-'80s. Shake It - Make It Loose is a classic boogie-funk album that belongs in every serious funk and disco collection. It showcases the undeniable talent of two true musicians and stands as a testament to the friendship between Reg Hudson and John Davis.

REIDY, JULES Ghost/Spirit CD
"Jules Reidy's sublime music maps the human experience in glittering constellations of sound. The guitarist is a driver of Berlin's fertile contemporary music scene. A wide-eyed imagination combined with technical mastery guide each work in Reidy's extensive catalog, from solo guitar albums and collaborations with innovative peers, including recent works with claire rousay, Oren Ambarchi, Andrea Belfi, and Sam Dunscombe to major commissions from JACK Quartet and Zinc & Copper. The songs of Ghost/Spirit collectively convey an astral sense of yearning and wonder, pushing towards transcendence. The album charts a deeply personal journey with love, spirituality and transformation expressed in fractal guitar figures, ethereal vocal vapors and rippling microtones. Reidy's guitar approach unlocks the tonal and textural possibilities of the instrument from their use of alternate tunings and astute processing. The maximalist melodics of album opener 'Every Day There's a Sunset' are bolstered by rumbling bass samples from Andreas Dzialocha, Reidy's collaborator in the duo Sun Kit. On 'Satellite,' cello samples from Judith Hamann stretch out through the cosmos, orbited by spiraling finger-picked guitars, while stacked trombone chords echo out into the ether. Thundering drum samples from Berlin metal mainstay Sara Neidorf push the album to ecstatic peaks on 'Every Day There's a Sunrise,' fragmented rhythms breaking apart in the atmosphere. Field recordings of the Berlin S-Bahn recur throughout the album, another endless cycle of leaving and returning that shuttles beneath the album's whirling tones. Ghost/Spirit captures the inherent power and agency in choosing to offer yourself up to the universe and let go, ego death and prayer rendered in incandescent sonics. Reidy's inimitable skill as a guitarist, producer and composer is on full display, and when combined with the intensity of experience, the resulting album is a remarkable work of art."Jules Reidy is another musician transforming the capabilities of an instrument, in this case the guitar -- somewhere between Vini Reilly, Glenn Branca and Kevin Shields." --The Guardian"You grasp for names that might fit Reidy's elusive emotional register, searching in vain for an affective Rosetta Stone. The music feels both warmly familiar and uncomfortably alien; therein lies its power." --Pitchfork"Like looking through a tinted window then trying to adjust to the world's normal colours. REIDY, JULES Ghost/Spirit LP
LP version. WREKMEISTER HARMONIES Flowers in the Spring LP
"Wrekmeister Harmonies, the duo of JR Robinson and Esther Shaw, are sonic shape shifters with expansive ideas. From special performances to collaborations the band have worked with David Yow (Jesus Lizard) Ryley Walker, Ken Vandermark, Bruce Lamont, Mark Solotroff, Sanford Parker, Jamie Fennely (Mind Over Mirrors), The Body, Mary Lattimore, Olivia Block, Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), Chris Brokaw, Fred Lonberg-Holm, and Thor Harris (Swans). Inspired by artists such as Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, and Lou Reed, the duo approach each album as a new sonic adventure. Flowers in the Spring was born of deep, careful listening as much as composing. It explores music as a meditative practice with a focus on microtonal shifts and intersectional overtones. Robinson explains: 'It's the subtle movements within and without, the fine threads of sound, loud or quiet, interior or exterior that become valuable.' Limiting himself to just four mixer channels on each piece; precisely layering guitar and electronics, intently listening and manipulating either the intensity or the duration of each loop to yield unexpected interactions, moments of beauty as well as dissonance." Flowers in Spring emerges from fizzing distortion, hewing monolithic slabs of drone from the rock face while electronics push through fissures. 'Fuck the Pigs' uses layers of noise as it metaphorically shifts into the depths of winter, arctic winds howling while the guitar scars like frost across a windowpane. In contrast 'A Shepherd Stares Into the Sun' is pure light and heat, overwhelming in its sheer celestial enormity. 'Flowers Variation" was born of nature's microscopic subterranean movements in its primordial gloom and buzzing synth pads. Each track holds multitudes of micro sonic details coming together to form the album's expansive ecosystem.""an immensely rewarding listen that takes both his band -- and the hybrid genre he's helping invent -- to new heights." --Pitchfork"Robinson's musical vision is as naturally imposing on a recording as you imagine his grey-bearded, urbanshaman -- with-knuckle-tattoos-appearance would be in the flesh."- The Quietus"Intense, genre-defying" --Brooklyn Vegan

POLONIO Acaricia la Manana LP + 7"
2025 restock; 180-gram LP with bonus 7". Eduardo Polonio has been one of the key figures of Spanish music since the late 1960s, especially as a pioneer in the field of electroacoustic music. He was a member, with Luis de Pablo and Horacio Vaggione, of Grupo Alea Electr?nica Libre (1970-1972), the first Spanish group to play electronic music live, and he has been one of the main figures of Barcelona's Laboratorio Phonos studio since 1976. He was also a founding member and president, between 1988 and 1994, of Spain's Electroacoustic Music Association. In 1994 he received the Magisterium award at the Grand Prix International de Musique ?lectroacoustique in Bourges, France. His deeply personal body of work has often gone beyond recorded sound to establish a dialogue with physical space and other artistic creations, as exemplified by his numerous collaborations with sculptors, video artists, painters, experimental filmmakers, and stage designers, and his own work in the field of installation art. In 1976 Polonio moved to Barcelona and became involved with the city's Phonos Electroacoustic Laboratory, meeting composers Andr?s Lewin-Richter and Josep Mar?a Mestres-Quadreny. This was the beginning of the creative period reflected on Acaricia la Ma?ana (1984), which contains 11 pieces recorded between 1976 and 1984 at Phonos and remastered at Cuenca's Gabinete de M?sica Electroac?stica. On these pieces, Polonio employs various synthesizers, including Polymoog, Minimoog, EMS, and a Farfisa organ, for a sort of suite constructed as a collection of short pieces from imaginary countries. The cyclical repetition of these short melodic sequences, which bear a clearly modal and even tonal quality, are built from three or four electronic tracks, but the texture is more heterophonic than polyphonic, as the composer plays with imbalance in the superposition of the repetitions. Each synth track is also underlined by noticeable differences in timbre, resulting in a suggestive heterophonic texture that captivates with its fragile and pleasant appearance and reveals a great refinement in the rhythmic and melodic treatment. It's not an exaggeration to say that Acaricia la Ma?ana is a classic, and an essential record in the history of Spanish electronic music. This facsimile reissue of the 1984 LP released by Uni? M?sics includes a bonus 7" featuring four previously unreleased tracks recorded by Polonio during the same period of 1976-1984.

POLONIO Bload Stations - Syntax Error LP
2025 restock. Vinilisssimo present a reissue of Polonio's Bload Stations * Syntax Error, originally released in 1987. Eduardo Polonio has been one of the key names of Spanish music since the late 1960s, especially as a pioneer in the field of electroacoustic music. He was a member, with Luis de Pablo and Horacio Vaggione, of Grupo Alea Electr?nica Libre (1970-1972), the first Spanish group of live electronic music; and he was one of the main figures of Barcelona's Laboratorio Phonos since 1976. He was also a founding member and president, between 1988 and 1994, of Spain's Electroacoustic Music Association. In 1994 he received the Magisterium award at the Grand Prix International de Musique ?lectroacoustique in Bourges, France. He is responsible for an absolutely personal body of work, without any kind of stylistic debts, which has often gone beyond the recording tape in order to establish a dialogue with physical space and other artistic creations, as testified by his numerous collaborations with sculptors, video artists, painters, experimental cinema directors, stage designers, and his own work in the field of installation art. Following Vinilissimo's reissue of Polonio's 1984 LP Acaricia la Manana (MRSSS 037LP), the label present (with Geometrik Records) Bload Stations * Syntax Error, his second solo album. It includes ten tracks composed between 1977 and 1985 and recorded at Laboratorio Phonos, Estudiomar, and Laboratorio Alea using the Minimoog, Polymoog, EMS Synthi AKS synthesizers, and the Yamaha CX5MII computer. The tracks were later mixed at the legendary Gabinete de M?sica Electroac?stica de Cuenca. The album was conceived as a sort of suite made up of mainly short music pieces from imaginary places. It begins with a hypnotic drone number, the longest track on the entire album, just over eight minutes of wonderful guitar arpeggios played by Jose Manuel Berenguer. As the album progresses, the dreamy atmospheres and surrounding environments point out the stops of the sound trip crafted by Polonio. Occasionally, the looped passages need no more than two minutes to draw an instant as hypnotic as attractive, and the sensations that the sounds generate wander between restlessness and pleasure. Syntax Error is an astounding work that will give the listener a new perspective of the Spanish musical avant-garde in those years. An essential pieces of Spanish electronic music. Presented in facsimile artwork; 180 gram vinyl.

This album, A Divina Comedia Ou Ando Meio Desligado, further testimony to their limitless creativity and considered by many to be their best, was recorded during the height of the Brazilian military regimes crack down on artists, and fellow members of the Tropicalia movement, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil had already been sent into exile in the UK. TOIVANEN TRIO, JOONA Gravity CD
Joona Toivanen Trio returns to We Jazz Records with their new album Gravity. A landmark work for the long-standing group, the album showcases the forward-looking sound of the band, moving way beyond the basic scope of the "piano trio." There's a startling sense of telepathy and intimacy at work in the music of the Joona Toivanen Trio, something you can glean from the opening moments of Gravity. It's that rare synergy that can only come with years of time spent together onstage, in the rehearsal space, on tour throughout Europe, en route to the next show. To look at the discography of the Finish piano trio is to see a relationship that stretches back to the year 2000, when they self-released their first album, Numurkah. Only, the connection between pianist Joona Toivanen, drummer Olavi Louhivuori, and bassist Tapani Toivanen goes back even further. "Tapani is my younger brother and we moved to a neighborhood in Jyv?skyl? in central Finland when I was seven," Joona Toivanen says. "And on my first day at school I met Olavi, who was in the same class as me!" Nowadays, the trio is geographically split between Gothenburg, Sweden (Joona), Copenhagen, Denmark (Tapani), and Helsinki, Finland (Olavi), but the unit sounds together as ever thanks to their extensive track record in developing their band sound.

OZCAN & JONAH PARZEN-JOHNSON, BERKE CAN It Was Always Time LP
It Was Always Time, the debut duo release from Berke Can ?zcan and Jonah Parzen-Johnson on We Jazz Records, is a refreshing and full-throated expression of joy and curiosity. In a year when 76 countries hold national elections and listeners find themselves in an existential battle against apathy and cynicism, this effortlessly authentic album offers an innocent reminder that the antidote to stagnation is curiosity and the fuel for change is the joy of building something transformative together. In April 2022, Brooklyn based baritone saxophonist, Jonah Parzen-Johnson, found himself on a flight from New York to Istanbul to play a one-off duo concert with a veteran drummer and sound designer at the center of Istanbul's vibrant music scene, Berke Can ?zcan. They met for the first time 30 minutes before soundcheck. The concert that followed could have been the culmination of years of collaboration. Both urgent and timeless, their musical partnership is instantly solid, innocent and joyful. Recorded across continents, time zones, and cultures, It Was Always Time meticulously builds on itself, weaving layers of found-sound samples over acoustic percussion to frame poignant saxophone melodies that melt into rich synth interludes. Although the album is almost completely improvised, the depth of texture and devotion to melody make it feel through-composed. From track to track, each musician places their trust in the other, and as ambition evolves into empathy, the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. This is not a protest album, or music that sets out to directly change the world. Rather, in the subtle way that only art is capable of, the music made by this international duo of strangers turned friends is a reminder: Be curious, find joy, build something better together. It's time. It was always time.

UNIONEN Unionen LP
LP version. Unionen is a new quartet of four star-level Norwegian and Swedish jazz musicians. The group takes its name from the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway under a common monarch 1814-1905 and brings together St?le St?rlokken (Supersilent), Per "Texas" Johansson, Petter Eldh (Koma Saxo), and Gard Nilssen (Supersonic Orchestra). It's not hip to say "supergroup" but this sure is one super of a group, with each member contributing to the band sound that is unique in all the best possible ways. From misty introspection to proper rock-out-hardjazz, Unionen is set out to blaze their own trail. Tracks such as opener "St?hlbad" draw you in with their subtle intensity, while the "rock cut" on the album, "6983" brings forth energy that sounds very much "live". Whatever Unionen do, you can feel they've been around the block a time or too, and are not just opting for easy licks to wow the listener. This is deep music that is set to stand the test of time in its originality. Early live shows of Unionen have been triumphant, with UK's Jazzwise calling them a "highlight scoop" at the Cologne Jazzweek. The album consists of eight originals, each of which defies clear classification. The compositions, including writing credits by all four members in a true fashion of the "unionen", display a genuine musical storytelling desire, matched by the ability to build a narrative that holds the listener close. On the instrumentation side of things, you hear classics like grand piano, fender Rhodes, double bass and drums, but also jazz rarities like Cor Anglais, contrabass clarinet and MPC. It's all part of a coherent sound image so you'll likely not think of how stuff was made but how it makes you feel. Unionen's music is highly emotive, more autumn than summer, more misty than sunny, more evening than midday, and first and foremost more unified than separated. No need for a monarch here, this is true democracy in the form of a jazz quartet. RIYL: Supersilent, Fire!, Scandinavian jazz, the darker side of vintage ECM.

FUKUI, RYO Mellow Dream LP
2025 repress. "Regular edition" on 140 gram vinyl. We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' new sister-label) present the official reissue of criminally overlooked Japanese jazz gem Mellow Dream by Hokkaido pianist wunderkind Ryo Fukui, originally released in 1977. Released in conjunction with the its legendary predecessor 1976's Scenery (WRJ 001CD/LP/LTD-LP). Firmly standing on the foundation he laid down with Scenery, Ryo Fukui continues his exploration of modal, bop, and cool jazz sounds with meticulous grace and absolute mastery. As its title suggests, Mellow Dream ventures into slightly mellower, more soulful, and sometimes more contemplative territories (the Bill Evans-reminiscent "Mellow Dream" and "My Foolish Heart") while still packing the commanding punch Fukui's work is loved for, as heard on the amazingly bombastic "Baron Potato Blues" or the gigantic McCoy Tyner/John Coltrane-influenced "Horizon" which sees each member of the trio -- Satoshi Denpo is on bass and Yoshinori Fukui is on drums -- demonstrating their virtuosity for nine exhilarating minutes. With his sophomore album, Ryo Fukui swings from melancholy to vibrant joy with ease, and reminds you that jazz is best served with a pinch of blues, and displays an immensely rare combination of pure talent, unique personal approach and focused discipline. The man undeniably deserves a spot in the pantheon of all-time great jazz pianists. After releasing the outstanding Scenery and Mellow Dream back-to-back, Ryo Fukui worked on developing his live skills, often performing at Sapporo's Slowboat Jazz Club (which he co-founded with his wife Yasuko Fukui), and even releasing two live albums. He sadly passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that all jazz lovers should explore. Sourced from the original masters. Mastered at half speed; 140 gram vinyl; includes sticker.

SAI, YOSHIKO Mangekyou CD
Wewantsounds presents the release of one of Japan's most coveted albums of the '70s, Mangekyou by singer-songwriter Yoshiko Sai. Produced in 1975 by Master musician Yuji Ohno, the album features Yoshiko Sai's superbly crafted songs and crystal-clear voice over Ohno's lush, funky sound and breezy arrangements. A strong buzz has been growing around the album over the years and original copies now change hands for large sums of money. This is the first time Mangekyou is available outside of Japan, featuring remastered audio, original artwork and a four-page insert including new liner notes by Paul Bowler. Yoshiko Sai holds a unique status in the Japanese music landscape. The Japanese singer songwriter made a strong impression with her blend of ethereal melodies, poetic lyrics and crystalline singing. A private, almost enigmatic artist, Sai only made four highly praised albums during the '70s and all but retired from the music industry in 1979, which adds to the mystic surrounding her persona. Only thanks to the persistence of Japanese guitarist Jojo Hiroshige from the noise group Hijokaidan did she come out of retirement to record new material in the 2000s. She was originally noticed by key record labels and swiftly signed to Black Records/Teichiku. This led to the recording of Mangekyou ("Kaleidoscope"), in the Spring of 1975. While she penned all the material for Mangekyou, the arrangements were assigned to Ace producer Yuji Ohno, one of the top arrangers in Tokyo at the time. Ohno helped craft the album's superb funk sound and also played keyboards. The album displays Sai's unique craftmanship when it comes to songwriting and alternates between mid and up-tempo songs such as "Yoru No Sei" (Night Spirit) and "Fuyu No Chikadou" (Winter Underpass) and more atmospheric ballads such as "Tsubaki Wa Ochita Kaya" (Did The Camellia Fall?) or "Yukionna" (Snow Woman). It's worth noting Ohno blended his rich arrangements with elements of Japanese traditional music, with the use of such instruments as the Shakuhachi (bamboo flute), Tsuzumi (hand drum), and Biwa (wooden lute), giving the music its unique twist. All in all, listening to Mangekyou is a unique experience and it's easy to see why the album and Yoshiko Sai garnered such a cult following over the years.

JONASZ, MICHEL Clara Et Les Chics Types OST (1980) LP
LP version. Wewantsounds presents the sought-after soundtrack for cult 1980 French film Clara Et Les Chics Types, featuring Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil, and the Splendid troupe actors. The jazz-funk soundtrack, composed by Michel Jonasz and featuring Manu Katch? and Sylvin Marc, has never been reissued since 1980. Remastered from the original master tapes, the release includes two never-released bonus tracks and a four-page booklet with liner notes by French music expert and musician Guido Minisky (also a member of Acid Arab) who interviewed Michel Jonasz and actor Christophe Bourseiller for the occasion. A gifted singer songwriter, Jonasz had had a few hits in the '70s and had also teamed up with Gabriel Yared to write a couple of albums for Francoise Hardy, Musique Saoule (1978) and Gin Tonic (1979). This was the background that saw the film Clara Et Les Chics Types come together. The brainchild of famed screenwriter Jean-Loup Dabadie who had risen to fame screenwriting smash hits for directors Claude Sautet and Yves Robert in the '70s, the bittersweet comedy followed a group of friends who have an amateur group dealing with the vicissitudes of everyday life at the dawn of the '80s. For the soundtrack, Michel Jonasz was hired and gathered some of the best session musicians including drummer Manu Katch? (in one of his first sessions) and bassist Sylvin Marc (who had recorded a couple of albums for Jef Gilson's Palm label in the early '70s). Together they weaved a mainly instrumental blend of jazz funk, reggae, and pop which matched the narrative perfectly. Although all the ingredients were there for a success, the film unfortunately stalled and so did the soundtrack. Jonasz went on to become a huge star in France shortly after, but strangely, the Clara soundtrack was never reissued, not even on CD. Teaming up with the artist and Warner Music France, Wewantsounds has dug out the original master tapes to reissue the album including two bonus tracks. The audio has been remastered by Colorsound in Paris.

EL SHARIYI, OMAR Music From The East (1976) LP
Wewantsounds presents the reissue of Ammar El Sherei's sought-after instrumental album Music From The East from 1976. Here, the iconic Egyptian musician and composer revisits seven classic compositions by another Egyptian legend, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, in his own hypnotic way. Mixing Arabic music with funky arrangements and electric keyboard experimentations, the album is a perfect showcase for El Sherei's artistry. Curated and annotated by Lebanese-born Arabic music expert Mario Choueiry from Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, this reissue has been newly remastered and comes with original Soutelphan artwork. Musician and composer Ammar El Sherei (1948-2012) is a giant of Egyptian music. Born in Upper Egypt in 1948 into an upper middle-class family (his grandfather was MP during King Fouad's reign and his eldest brother became the Egyptian ambassador to Australia), El Sherei attended a special school for the blind in Cairo (he lost his eyesight in his early childhood). He got noticed by his teachers there who recommended him to the Hadley School for the Blind in America so he could perfect his studies through a correspondence course. Thanks to this, he quickly learnt piano, oud and composition. Once his studies completed, El Sherei began playing in various Cairo bars and clubs and quickly made a name for himself on the Cairo music scene. He also started writing songs for many established Egyptian artists and quickly rose to fame, becoming one of the most sought-after composers for films and TV series. In 1976, El Sherei signed to leading Egyptian label Soutelphan and recorded Music from the East, an homage to the leading Egyptian composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab. On the album, El Sherei masterfully interprets classics from Abdel Wahab including "Enta Enta," "El Kamh El Leila," and "Balad El Mahob." With the help of innovative keyboards of the time, such as the Steelphon S900 or the Farfisa (as seen on the album cover), El Sherei creates hypnotic instrumentals that blend traditional Arabic melodies with jazz, funk and groove. Popular with vinyl collectors and diggers alike, Music from the East is a sought-after gem on the international Arabic Funk scene.

VA Tokyo Bliss: Japanese Funk, Boogie And City Pop From King Records 1974-88 LP
LP version. Following the success of the Tokyo Glow and Funk Tide sets, Wewantsounds once again teams up with Tokyo-based DJ Notoya for a breezy selection of funk and boogie recorded in Japan for King Records in the '70s and '80s. Most tracks here are making their debut on vinyl outside of Japan and the album, like its predecessors, has been designed by Optigram's Manuel Sepulveda and is annotated by DJ Notoya. The audio has been newly mastered in Tokyo by King Records and remastered for vinyl by Colorsound in Paris. For Tokyo Bliss, Japanese Funk expert DJ Notoya has picked a diverse selection of great funk, boogie and city pop tracks recorded between 1974 and 1988 for King Records, one of the most venerable record labels in Japan. These tracks -- which are in demand on the Japanese groove scene -- are mostly new to international ears and showcase the breadth and quality of Nippon music recorded during the '70s and '80s. The selection kicks off with the group Buzz, a folk duet formed in the early '70s by Hiroshi Koide and Masakazu Togo who released a handful of albums for King during the '70s. The track "Garasumado" (Glass Window) is from the 1974 album Requiem The City which was produced by Nobuyuki Takahashi, the older brother of future YMO superstar Yukihiro Takahashi. At the time both were members of cult group Sadistic Mika Band. Next comes the synth boogie sound of singer Mami Ayukawa, who was active on the Japanese music scene in the mid-'80s, followed by drummer Johnny Yoshinaga's 1978 hard funk "The Rain" featuring great keyboards action from Hiroyuki Namba, one of Tatsuro Yamashita's key musicians. Keiko Toda's mid-tempo delight "Fade In" was released in 1983 and adds a touch of class to the ensemble with its languid rhythm and synth riffs. The rest of Tokyo Bliss alternate between the stylish funk-folk floater "Bokura no Date" by Koji Kobayashi from 1978 and the '80s funk bomb "Your Love's Away" by Kumiko Sawada, produced by prolific guitarist Kazuo Takeda with his group Creation, who is backing Sawada here. The selection closes with the superb Moog and Fender Rhodes-led space funk instrumental "Paper Machine" released in 1977 by Fujimaru Band and which ends the set on a perfect note.

AL-QASAR Uncovered LP
Wewantsounds presents the release of Al-Qasar's new album, Uncovered, a side-project from the group featuring covers from the Western and Arabic repertoires, as well as new originals composed by the group. The album was recorded in Europe and Africa and features guest appearances by Alsarah, Mamani Keita, Cheick Tidiane Seck, and Sami Galbi. Al-Qasar's new album keeps exploring diverse sounds from around the world. One says there's nothing like the original. But when the psychedelic collective tackles such a Depeche Mode classic as "Personal Jesus," you know you're in for a brain-melting, transcontinental journey. The lyrics are in Turkish, and the song's iconic riffs are played on electric saz. The cast is mouth-watering, with studio wizard Thomas Attar producing, playing guitar and saz and Turkish artist Sibel on vocals. "Promises," the second single, is an Afro-futuristic heavy-psych track sung in Bambara which features Malian singer Mamani Keita (who played with Salif Keita) on vocals and the revered "Black Buddah," Cheick Tidiane Seck (Gorillaz, Black Eyed Peas, Santana) on keyboards and backing vocals. On drums you've got Souleymane Ibrahim (from the Tuareg group Mdou Moctar) who unleashes a powerful beat. The rest of the album is sizzling and features Swiss-Morrocan Rai rising star Sami Galbi, Sudanese singer Alsarah, Tunisian virtuoso oud player Nada Mahmoud and Sufi singer Mariam Hamrouni. Produced by Thomas Attar who also plays guitars and synths, Uncovered has been recorded between Tunis, Lisbon, Bamako and Paris and is enhanced by Matt Hyde's warm and massive mix which will enthrall all the group's fans.

GRAUZONE Grauzone (40 Years Anniversary Edition) 2LP
2025 restock; double LP version. Heavy 350gsm sleeve. WRWTFWW Records reissue Swiss cult band Grauzone's self-titled album in an expanded "40 Years Anniversary Edition" packed with the original 1981 album plus nine extra songs, as well as extensive liner notes by Swiss music historian Lurker Grand. The pioneering band from Bern (Switzerland) had a short-lived but highly-regarded career which birthed a cult discography that still fascinates and resonates today. Consisting of core members Martin Eicher, Stephan Eicher, and Marco Repetto, and on-and-off participants Christian GT Tr?ssel, Claudine Chirac, and Ingrid Berney, the elusive group broke new grounds in the early '80s, experimenting with punk and industrial music, early techno sounds, minimalism, new wave, pop, and various electronics. With an innovative and polished approach to design, visuals, performance, and all-around style and philosophy on top of their superb music, the constantly transforming unit developed a whole experience -- the Grauzone experience: wild and unpredictable, yet sophisticated and cohesive, or as Swiss music historian Lurker Grand would call it, "an Art band with a Punk attitude." Completely rejecting the music industry rules and refusing to play the game of promotion, touring, release schedules, and TV appearances even though they had a multi-platinum international hit with the song "Eisb?r", the band quickly disintegrated in full convention-defying glory, leaving behind an inspiring music legacy for the world to discover and discover again, one generation after the other. This extended version of their debut (and only) album beautifully crystallizes the Grauzone miracle/accident -- where pop and youthful experimentation meet at (new/cold/no) wave and industrial crossroads, and where classic hits ("Eisb?r", "FILM 2", "Raum", "Tr?ume Mit Mir", "Der Weg Zu Zweit") flawlessly mesh with unconventional deep cuts ("In Der Nacht", "Film 1", "Maik?fer Flieg"). Very simply put: good timeless music with an edge. Stephan Eicher went on to be, arguably, the most successful Swiss musician ever, with an international career extending from pop chanson to experimental escapades and collaborations with Moondog, artists Sophie Calle and Sylvie Fleury, and author Martin Suter among many other luminaries. Marco Repetto flourished as a techno and ambient producer, releasing multiple projects including releases on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label. Sourced from the original reels and put together under the supervision of band member Stephan Eicher.
