Aphex Twin is Richard D. James

Overall impression: good. The new Aphex single, finally. This is the US domestic version. Windowlicker you've probably already heard and/or seen (see "Windowlicker" video). I love it:  it's pop, it's hip-hop, it's goofy, it's heavy and it's deep ... it's Aphex Twin. It reminds me a bit of the Aphex sound of the early 90's only with some of the off-kilter sequencing of more recent years. The second track, which is entitled with some sort of math equation (I guess) is more of a collection of sounds than a song persay. It seems to be the result of thorough sample/sound manipulations and collage, probably via RDJ's software suite. It's schizophrenic as hell, but for some reason I can't explain it doesn't annoy me ... much. Not the greatest track, but intriguing. The final track, "Nannou", is simply a music box song with a bit of an Aphex flair. A bizarre assortment of tracks, but 1 and 3 definitely get a thumbs up. I miss the days of 12 track singles though ... don't you? Looking forward to the full length probably out later this year ...
