Basically if you have any more categories that should be included, .

DELAYED
All apologies to the delay in this week's issue, things have been busy and contributors haven't been contributing as much.

MUSIC
IN BRIEF

Arvo Pärt: Kanon Pokajanen (ECM New Series)
Austere chords, gothic a capella choirs, Slavic text... Thoughts of some god-awful Batman soundtrack come to mind, right? Well, not with the latest album by Estonia's Arvo Pärt, one of the leaders of the popular "holy minimalism" movement in today's orchestral music "scene." Based on the "canon of repentance" of the Eastern Orthodox Church, Kanon Pokajanen draws us into a world where it seems that all time has stopped and gives us no option but to focus on the mere beauty of this recording. The simple chord patterns and uncomplex harmonies cause us to lose sight of the intricacies of the music and, instead, just allow us to be overcome by it and surrounded by its blanket affect. This recording proves that religious music actually conveys a sense or spirituality.- Carter Adams

EVERYBODY LOVES BELLE & SEBASTIAN BUT ME
So I picked up "The Boy with the Arab Strap" on recommendations from credible friends and I'm struggling with it. It's too cute, washy, whiny, and wanky. 13 years too late for The Smiths and 4 years too early before reaching puberty, these people just plain bug me. I've complained about the album before but friends tell me "it's pop," "it's saccharin," well, if that's your bag then you might enjoy this album like everybody else. The Chipmunks, Hanson, and Nelson were cute too, but I still didn't like the music. I personally should have saved my money. - Jon Whitney

MOVIES
REVIEWED

MODULATIONS REVISITED
Well, I saw the flick this week, myself, and while it was enjoyable, it was entirely too incomplete. You have to accept the fact that they only had 90-120 minutes to work with, but there could have been less nose-picking and more talk about interesting meaningful stuff. I'm beginning to dislike English musicians more now than ever because they all seem to talk about themselves as if they're so important. Sorry, Brits, but London isn't the Center of the Universe. The Germans, on the other hand kick ass... I'm going to propose to Panacea, we're going to raise children in the country. - Jon Whitney

FEEDBACK
KISSING ASS OR THANKING US?
Subject: from a zombie

`Jon Whitney. I don't want to come off as a "kiss-ass", but i'd like to personally thank you because i don't think many of us know the amount of work you and continually do, in promoting Meat Beat Manifesto. Your the only person that i know, and can trust with "official" information. And i wouldn't know or have half as much shit as i do now if it wasn't for Brainwashed.com.

`Good work. From an a fellow meathead.

A Thank-You-Note isn't kissing ass, asking for things and playing nicey nicey to get something is. Please take into consideration all the hard work everybody else has put into this site as well. It is truly a team effort.

Subject: UNKLE

Jon,

I just checked out this weeks's version of the Brain, and I have to say that I think you are completely wrong on the UNKLE. A lot of the shit is really a bit much, especially some of the vocals, but it's one of the best releases that I hvae heard in a long time. The song "Lonely Soul" could quite possibly be the best thing that I have heard all year. I just had to tell you that.

Everybody's entitled to my own opinion... :P But seriously, it's only opinion. I didn't like it.

RIVERDANCE OCCULTISM???
I work in a newspaper during the week and noticed something interesting when you flip the advertisement for "Riverdance" upside down. It perfectly resembles the Tarot Card for "The Hanged Man". So I scanned them in and you can compare and contrast on your own... Coincidences? I think not.
