LEGENDARY PINK NEWS ARCHIVES
(UPDATES FROM 2002)
THE OFFICIAL LIVE ARCHIVES HAVE BEEN RESTORED: The Official Live Archives, which have been offline for several months, have been fully restored. The Live Archives contain about 30 live Pink Dot shows and several solo performances by Edward Ka-Spel, all of which are available for public download. As an extra bonus, all the MP3 files hosted over the past year at LegendaryPinkDots.org have been put online again as well. Download while you may! LETTER TO LPD FANS FROM BENNY (ORIGAMI GALAKTIKA): On Christmas Day, I received the following e-mail from Benny of Origami Galaktika. He asked me if I would put it online in the usual places so that he could thank everyone for the kindness they showed him when he opened for the Legendary Pink Dots on their North American tour. So without further ado...here it is: Hello everybody! I hope you're all doing well and that the Great Lord and/or the High Spirits (whichever you prefer) look upon you with grace and that you will all be granted good lives. I would like to use this as an opportunity to express my gratefulness and appreciation to the following people: First of all to The Dots and their collaborators for inviting me along on this, my first journey to the US of A, and by doing this giving me the chance to see and meet all you people. When Edward first asked me (in Oslo, summer 2001) I immediately replied "Yes I'd love to, if it turns out to be possible, and if I'm granted the right to enter the country"...(it's hard to tell right?!) of a year went by and then I got a mail asking if I was still into it and the ball started rolling... Luckily, it turned out I was allowed to enter by the authorities that seem to believe they're in charge... Then second, to everybody that I will not mention by name, you know who you are!!!! Then third but no less important, to all you people that were there for treating me so nice and being mostly open-minded to what Origami represents and what I represent within the Origami Republika. It's about love, it's about freedom, it's about life. Also to the one guy in New Orleans that was shouting so loud during my gig that I was almost scared and to the crowd in Orlando where most people seemed to have way more important things to do than pay attention to this tall, weird guy with the braided beard, making all these slow and drony sounds. And I must not forget the guy in St. Petersburg that went to the wrong gig. I guess Lynyrd Skynyrd were playing somewhere else and you, my dear friend, didn't notice that it wasn't where you bought a ticket to enter. But I'm not angry, (I've heard that hillbilly life isn't always easy and you had probably had a hard day throwing rocks at your neighbours) I'm sorry that I could not play "Freebird in Chains" for you. Maybe next time... Those of you that I have promised to write will hear from me sooner or later and those of you that would like to get in touch, my e-mail is galaktika@hotmail.com. But please remember to write "Pink Dots" or something I will understand in the subject line, ok!? It is hotmail and as those of you that have hotmail know I do get a lot of shit there... I could go on but my point is just to say thank you all, hope to see you again!!!! All the best to all of you, take care, make a difference. Sing while you may and treat your neighbours nice. Love + light, Benny MARTIJN DE KLEER: "SO CLOSE YET SO FAR OUT": Beta-lactam Ring Records is now accepting orders for Martijn's new 2 X LP. From the label press release: " All the I's are microdotted and all the mushroom teas crossed as Martijn's guitar gently seeps, crawls, oozes, boils and burns. And even though Martijn's Dotted past is in some evidence, this is hardly an LPD karaoke album. This is a fully fleshed-out beast of original design. Martijn's vocals occasionally punctuate the parade, but the majority involves instrumental clusters, some based in rock form and others more like giant swelling clouds, all thick with psychedelia (acid rain?). Besides the requisite fuzzing guitar (see also Damon and/or Helios Creed), Martijn employs such merry men as Ryan Moore and cEvin Key. A beautiful production that is filled with sonic surprises at every turn and is sure to make any day trip, erm, trippier. 8 tracks over 2 albums, exactly the way any good psych record is supposed to be, damnit! The finale is a particularly rewarding climb to Heaven on a honeyed ladder, from which view is all poppies, beautiful poppies, and the sound is perfectly Kleer. 2-220 gram audiophile vinyl lps, packed in a full color gatefold sleeve." BETA-LACTAM RING PRINTS AND ARTWORK FOR SALE: Beta-lactam Ring Records is now offering prints of the cover art from Edward Ka-Spel's "O'er A Shalabast'r Tyde Strolt Ay", Martijn de Kleer's "So Close Yet So Far Out." Prints are available in very limited quantities and can be purchased here. LIVE DATES FOR EARLY 2003: The Legendary Pink Dots and Edward Ka-Spel have tentatively scheduled the following shows for early 2003. More details will be posted to this website as they emerge. The two festival dates in January are "100% confirmed", according to Edward. He also reports that the shows in Athens, Greece are looking "extremely likely". These will be the first live Pink Dot performances in Greece. January 25: Cannes, France (Festival) "EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE" NOW SHIPPING: The wait is over! Per Corey over at Litany, the new Tear Garden CD "Eye Spy With My Little Eye" is being shipped as I type! FINISHED COVER ART FOR "EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE": Once again, thanks are due to Scott over at Litany for keeping me in the loop and sending me the final version of the cover art for the upcoming Tear Garden release. Click here to see the image. Edward is very pleased with this release and tells me that it is "the missing album" between "Tired Eyes Slowly Burning" and "The Last Man To Fly". Pre-orders are still being taken here. "BASILISK" CD NOW AVAILABLE: "Basilisk" is now available from Beta-lactam Ring Records. You will also be able to order this release from TEKA once the Dots return from their North American tour in mid-November. "Basilisk" features all of the music from the original cassette release and three bonus tracks: "The Ocean Cried Blue Murder: A Ferry In A Storm On A Walkman", "Ideal Home" with vocals by Keith Thompson, and a previously unreleased version of "The Glory, The Glory." TOUR PHOTOS FROM LEE'S PALACE IN TORONTO POSTED AT LITANY.NET: Litany has posted some photos from Lee's Palace in Toronto on 6 October. The gorgeous light show, courtesy of General Chaos Visuals, is prominently featured in these shots. "EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE" UPDATE: Scott at Litany passed on the following information regarding the new Tear Garden CD: "Some of the tracks were recorded in the 80's and sound "lo-fi" at times. The songs are time-sequential-ish and start with demos from 1986 and work up to a new track (entitled "Changer") which was recorded just for this release. Everything is pretty close to being finalized and "Eye Spy With My Little Eye" should hit the presses relatively soon." If you still need to pre-order a copy, you can do it here. "ALL THE KING'S HORSES", "ALL THE KING'S MEN" & "COLOURS" BY NIELS VAN HOORN ARE NOW AVAILABLE: You may now place your order for "All The King's Horses" and "All The King's Men" through Soleilmoon and "All The King's Men" through ROIR. Track lists are as follows: The new Niels Van Hoorn CD is also available through Soleilmoon. According to the label press release: In the middle of 2001, Niels Van Hoorn (Legendary Pink Dots) received a friendly e-mail from Ryan Moore (Twilight Circus Dub Sound System / Legendary Pink Dots) offering assistance with his new solo album. He promised "no stress, just fun!" And that is exactly what happened. Moore ended up playing drums and congas, which were looped and later employed for multi-track recordings. Van Hoorn's experiments with a Boomerang Phrase sampler resulted in the first sax loop on the album, which were mixed live with effects to a 2-track tape. For the most part, Van Hoorn placed himself in the middle of his studio, encircled by his collection of saxes, clarinets, flutes, analogue windsynths and keyboards, and would walk around to each, improvising. Everything was then recorded by Moore and passed through his "effects kitchen" for some sonic baking. And voila! "Colours" came into being. Both Niels and Ryan hope you enjoy listening to it as much as they enjoyed producing it. NEW RELEASES FROM BETA-LACTAM RING: "BASILISK" AND "O'ER A SHALABAST'R TYDE STROLT AY" CD: Beta-lactam Ring Records has just announced the release of Edward's "O'er A Shalabast'r Tyde Strolt Ay" on CD. There will also be a limited sub-edition (35 copies) which is packaged in a handmade wallet with 6 CD size inserts on archival photopaper. The CD issue of "Basilisk" is due soon from BLRR as well. For the time being, there

microphone of a Walkman. BLRR will also be issuing the CD release of "Apparition" and "Atomic Roses". More details are coming soon. LOVE AND LOUD COLOURS: Now shipping: An authorized lyric collection by Edward Ka-Spel, prolific vocal wizard of the Legendary Pink Dots and The Tear Garden. The illustrated book will present song lyrics selected from the nearly forty albums' worth of Edward's musical ventures from 1980 to the present. In addition, the book will be graced by a CD-single featuring an exclusive four-part Edward Ka-Spel creation. You can check all details at www.loveandloudcolours.com. Numbered books are sold out as of June 2002, but plenty unnumbered books are available. As of now the book & single will be available only through www.loveandloudcolours.com and at select (maybe all?) Legendary Pink Dot appearances along their North American tour. NEW TEAR GARDEN CD: The new Tear Garden CD, entitled
Eye Spy With My Little Eye is now finished and expected to be released in October. The track list is as follows: "ALL THE KING'S HORSES", "ALL THE KING'S MEN", AND "LILITH & THE ROSE" NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER: You can now pre-order the new studio CDs "All The King's Horses" and "All The King's Men" from The Terminal Kaleidescope. Also available for pre-order through TEKA is Edward's 10" picture disc Lilith & the Rose. At the time of this update, it is anticipated that the Pink Dots will be able to ship all of these items to those who order from TEKA before embarking on their 2002 North American tour. ELECTRICALLY INDUCED VIBRATIONS LP NOW AVAILABLE: The Anomalous Records compilation "Electrically Induced Vibrations", which features tracks by Edward Ka-Spel ("Burdon") and The Silverman ("Cartilage Music") is now available from Anomalous Records and The Terminal Kaleidescope . 2002 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES (AS OF 10/22/02): The Legendary Pink Dots have announced the itinerary for their North American tour. The support act will be Origami Galaktika from Norway. The obligatory disclaimer: Schedule changes may still occur. Changes of dates and venues will be posted to this website as they occur. October 6: TORONTO/ Lee's Palace EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE: Edward is hard at work on the forthcoming Tear Garden release, entitled "Eye Spy With My Little Eye". This CD is part of the Subconcious Communications "From The Vault" series. The cover art (courtesy of Litany) can be seen here. All tracks will be exclusive to this release. ALL THE KING'S HORSES & ALL THE KING'S MEN:
The first details of the two new LPD studio albums, due this fall, are starting to emerge from Chez Dots. "All The King's Horses" is actually finished and will be released by Soleilmoon, while "All The King's Men" (to be released by ROIR) is awaiting the final mix. Word from Edward is that these albums are more "song based" than the last few releases, with the exception of the 25-minute opus "All The King's Men"/ "The Brightest Star" which concludes the ROIR CD. UPCOMING RELEASES FROM BETA-LACTAM RING RECORDS: Many new Pink Dot related releases are in the pipeline at Beta-Lactam Ring Records. First up is "So Close Yet So Far Out", the latest solo offering from the ultra-talented Martijn de Kleer. This will be a double LP pressed on 220 gram vinyl via direct metal mastering. Packaged with various inserts, the first 250 copies will also include postcards autographed by Martijn. The music itself ranges from pure psychedelia to melodic abstract collages. Martijn is joined on this LP by cEvin Key, The Silverman and Ryan Moore. Expect this release sometime in October, but for now you can listen to a short MP3. Also due in October is the CD edition of "O'er A Shalabast'r Tyde Strolt Ay", Edward's most recent musical masterpiece. The CD edition will be slightly re-mixed and will include bonus material. Last but not least are two new Legendary Pink Dot CDRs, which will be packed with professionally printed inserts and burned onto white washed discs. More details are coming soon, so stay tuned. ELECTRICALLY INDUCED VIBRATIONS: Edward Ka-Spel and The Silverman are featured on the new "Electrically Induced Vibrations" compilation which will be released in August 2002 by Anomalous Records. Edward's song is entitled "Burdon" and the new Silverman piece is called "Cartilage Music". Both tracks are exclusive to this release. The LP itself is on multi-coloured vinyl and is limited to 414 copies. 100 of these copies will be given to contributors and a large number of pre-orders have already been placed, so act VERY quickly! TANITH AND THE LION TREE 2 x LP NOW AVAILABLE: Over a decade after its initial CD release, Flesh Eating Ants Records is proud to present Edward Ka-Spel's classic "Tanith and the Lion Tree" in the format it was always intended: on ultra-thick vinyl. "Tanith and the Lion Tree" has been repackaged as a double LP set on grey-coloured, 220 gram audiophile quality vinyl. Edward has also provided 3 brand new bonus tracks to complete the second LP. For those of you who may not know, the original planned vinyl release would have seen the final two tracks omitted to allow the piece to sit as a single LP, however the bonus material fits so well with the tracks ("Phoney War" and "Old Man Trouble") that a double LP was entirely necessary. The complete work has been remastered by Edward to better fit the medium, and a few changes have been made. The release is limited to 512 hand-numbered copies, and the item is now in stock and has been shipped out to those who have pre-ordered. CACIOVALLO COLLECTION SOLD OUT AT SOLEILMOON: The new 10 CD collection (limited to 24 copies) has sold out at Soleilmoon. The string of e-bay auctions have also ended. Congratulations to everyone who ended up with one of these sets! NIELS VAN HORN/MARK SPYBEY CD OUT NOW: The longtime LPD hornblower has collaborated with Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air) on a new disc entitled "De Klaverland Klompen Voetbal Club". Read a review and listen to samples in The Brainwashed Brain, then buy it from TEKA mailorder or Soleilmoon. LEGENDARYPINKDOTS.ORG: legendarypinkdots.org is a new page created and run by the Dots themselves (with a little help from their friends). Among other things, you will be able download unique MP3 files. |
