Wagon Christ is Luke Vibert.
Overall impression: good. This is the first single
from the upcoming Wagon Christ album "Tally
Ho!" Luke Vibert (aka Wagon Christ, Plug) unleashes 4 whacky new
tunes. "Rendleshack" (the album track) starts out as a hyper-speed
drum 'n bass / sample barrage but then slips into a nice, playful mid tempo
groove as typically cool Vibert samples and sounds accompany the crisp,
militaristic snare. "Breakage No. 1" is a bit funkier with big
synth sweeps and lines, samples, etc. "Breakage No. 2" slows
the pace down a bit, more jazz-funk and a bit more atmospheric than the
first "Breakage". "Filthy Drummer" has a nice upfront
beat backed by all manner of synthwork and samples. Once gain, Vibert's
blend of tongue in cheek, funk, jazz, d 'n b, and interesting samples/sounds never fails
to entertain me, and this single is no exception. I'm really looking forward
to the next ep, "Lovely"
