Overall impression: so-so. Luke Vibert (aka Plug) releases another batch of tracks under his Wagon Christ moniker which has been unused since 1995's "Throbbing Pouch". "Tally Ho!" is basically comprised of mid tempo songs that focus on a bass and snare groove, then layer some melodies and odd samples on top. Luke likes to use really crisp drum sounds (snares, hi-hats, etc), various samples as atmospheres, and funky beat/bass combinations. There's a few oddballs here and there like "Juicy Luke Vibert" which features a somewhat humorous spoken blurb by Vibert (with miscellaneous samples to cover up the naughty words) and "The End" which also has spoken bits by Luke backed with a nice, gritty bass groove accompanied by bell-like tones. "Tally Ho!" isn't as dark or hectic as Plug's "Drum 'n Bass for Papa", it goes for more of a fun loving, tongue in cheek vibe. My fave tracks are "My Organ in Your Face", "Rendleshack" and "The End" (which is much too short). A decent outing by Vibert, but there just isn't much here that's all that mindblowing or even memorable ... I won't be listening to this all that often. I liked this stuff better in small doses such as the "Lovely" and "Power of Love" eps/singles ... on the album it gets pretty dull after a short while. Plug is more my style ...
