P.G. SIX Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites 2LP
"Amish Records is pleased to finally announce an expanded and remastered edition of P.G. Six's 2001 debut album, Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites, to be released as a gatefold double LP and digitally on Feb 24, 2023. Fully remastered by Giuseppe Ielasi, artist Meredyth Sparks reimagines the beautiful Chris Krol cover art in an evocative gatefold design. An eight-song bonus LP entitled Live Cuts and Radio Favorites will be included. Documenting performances from the calendar year just before and after the release of Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites, the bonus album gathers radio and live shows. P.G. Six plays both songs off the debut and the music of others: Pearls Before Swine's 'I Saw the World' (1968) becomes minimalist, approaching modern classical in his repetitive and percussive piano work; X's 'Drunk in My Past' (1983) feels refracted beyond the horizons of Los Angeles punk; Gubler even looks back to his more recent past with 'Cover Art,' from the debut album of Tower Recordings; looking forward, the bonus LP also includes versions of songs that would later appear on the album The Well of Memory (2004), which Amish will release in an forthcoming expanded edition."

FUZZTONES, THE Lysergic Ejaculations: Live in Europe 1991 2LP
Lysergic Ejaculation: Live in Europe 1991 finally reissued on double-LP. Considered one of the best garage revival live albums ever. It was recorded in Europe back in 1991 and this album exposes The Fuzztones at their wildest. When the LA garage psychedelic rock scene was happening back in the late '80s-early '90s The Fuzztones were one of the scene leaders. With frontman Rudi Protrudi's snarling vocals and wicked guitar this record is simply raw. Crank this one loud. WARNING: Explicit images included inside. Not to be sold to people under 18 years old. BLOODLOSS In-A-Gadda-Da-Change LP
Finally on vinyl, Bloodloss's In-A-Gadda-Da-Change was originally recorded in Seattle and released in 1993 only on CD format. Recorded prior to their Warner/Reprise release Live My Way, In-A-Gadda-Da-Change finds Bloodloss squealing and writhing in a swamp of sound where Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits gather on an insane trip backed by a band of electric psychos, crooning about smoking, toilets, back shaving, fish wives, and dancing on hate street with such vigor that you can't help but cheer him them. Bloodloss's sound might be a bit abrasive for Mudhoney fans, but their music is richly rewarding and truly unique. The band: Renestair EJ; Mark Arm (Mudhoney, Monkeywrench); Guy Maddison (Mudhoney); Martin Bland (Monkeywrench).

DOHENY, NED Hard Candy LP
2023 repress. Ned Doheny's Hard Candy, originally released in 1976, is widely considered the finest blue-eyed soul album of all time. It has long been a source of great frustration then, that this perfectly-formed Southern California masterpiece has been unavailable on vinyl for almost 40 years. Be With Records continues apace by marking its third release with the first officially licensed reissue of Doheny's nautical classic. Perhaps most famously, this impeccably smooth set features the timeless "Get It Up For Love", a wonderful example of mid-70s mid-tempo white-(hot)-funk. Produced by the legendary Steve Cropper, it featured a veritable who's-who of the Laurel Canyon soft-yacht sound (JD Souther, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, the entire horn section for Tower of Power) yet bombed mysteriously. It's been a cult record since. Features the original artwork for both jacket and full color inner sleeve; 180 gram vinyl.

ALMQVIST, THOMAS Nyanser LP
Reissue, originally released in 1979 on Mistlur Records in Sweden. Nyanser is widely considered Thomas Almvqvist's masterpiece. With his adventurous, virtuoso guitar technique to the fore, the album explores a unique path through world music, folk, jazz, and acoustic experimentation, whilst retaining a very personal vision. The majority of the album is a solo exercise with Thomas playing Rhodes, flute, synthesizer, and percussion as well as his idiosyncratic guitar on all tracks. Alongside Thomas in the studio were an array of young, experimental Swedish musicians in the nascent stages of their careers including the much-lauded Swedish composer Ann-Sofi Söderqvist, vocalist Turid Lundqvist, and perhaps the key contributor to the album, Hans Peter Andersson, whose alto, tenor and baritone saxophone contributions shift the album from into the realms of jazz, most notably on "Horisont" and "E.M." The whole ensemble comes together on the centerpiece of the album, the joyous aquatic harmony of "Coral Reef". The album presents a very visual aesthetic, each track evoking images of landscapes and far-flung corners of the earth. Almvqvist himself considered the visual aspect of his sound very important, describing his approach as "picture music." Nyanser is considered one of the earliest examples of a fusion of world music, jazz, and folk traditions, certainly from a Scandinavian artist. Despite its impact on release being minimal outside of those aficionados tuned into such sounds, over the years the album has become something of a "lost" cult classic and a fine example of the experimentalism going on in Scandinavian music at the time. The English translation of nyanser -- "shades" -- is a particularly apt description of the sounds contained within. Thomas very sadly passed away in 2008 at the age of 55. Be With Records hope this reissue will go some way to bringing his unique output to a wider audience and secure the legacy he deserves as one of Sweden's great guitarists and musical visionaries. It sounds sensational. Audio remastered from the original analog tapes. Mastered by Simon Francis. Cut by Pete Norman. Artwork restored at Be With HQ. Includes new insert with liner notes and original photos.

BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS, ART The Big Beat LP
"The timeless 1960 hard bop classic The Big Beat was the album that first introduced one of the greatest line-ups of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers to the jazz public with the legendary drummer and bandleader joined by trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Bobby Timmons, and bassist Jymie Merritt. Shorter was the band's newest member, and it was immediately clear that his presence would steer the group's sound in a new more modern direction. Three of the album's six pieces were penned by Shorter including the swaggering set opener 'The Chess Players,' the imaginative 'Sakeena's Vision' written for Blakey's young daughter, and the tribute 'Lester Left Town' which was dedicated to influential jazz tenor forefather Lester Young. However, it was Timmons' unforgettable gospel-influenced tune 'Dat Dere,' a suitably soulful follow-up to the band's previous hit 'Moanin',' that the album would ultimately become best-known for. This excellent edition of The Jazz Messengers would go on to record a phenomenal run of classic albums including A Night In Tunisia, Like Someone In Love, The Freedom Rider, Roots & Herbs, and The Witch Doctor. This classic vinyl edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal."

HUBBARD, FREDDIE Breaking Point! LP
2022 reissue. Released in the Blue Note Tone Poet series. 1964 release. "Despite having performed on several of the most revolutionary avant-garde jazz records of the 1960s, including Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz and John Coltrane's Ascension, Freddie Hubbard's own albums tended to hew closer to the mainstream. Perhaps no other single album captures the trumpeter's awe-inspiring breadth of ability and versatility than Breaking Point!, which was recorded in May 1964 shortly after Hubbard had departed Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in order to form his own band. On this six-song set featuring five of Hubbard's original compositions, his new quintet -- with James Spaulding on alto saxophone and flute, Ronnie Mathews on piano, Eddie Khan on bass, and Joe Chambers on drums -- moves assuredly across vast stylistic terrain. On the stunning title track alone the band shifts from free-form exploration into a playful Calypso and back with ease. The rest of the program traverses modal jazz ('Far Away'), the blues ('Blue Frenzy'), and stunningly beautiful balladry (Chambers's 'Mirrors') to create one of the more remarkable albums in Hubbard's formidable Blue Note oeuvre."

MCLEAN, JACKIE Tippin' The Scales LP
2022 reissue. Released in the Blue Note Tone Poet series. 1979 release. "Jackie McLean's 1960s Blue Note output is a fascinating body of work, especially viewed with the benefit of hindsight. In between recording two venturous modernist sessions -- Let Freedom Ring and One Step Beyond -- that would set the tone for the alto saxophonist's future explorations, came the seemingly more conventional and relaxed quartet date Tippin' The Scales. Recorded in September 1962 but not released until 1979, the date featured McLean with Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass, and Art Taylor on drums delivering a swinging hard bop set that presented 2 originals by McLean ('Tippin' the Scales' and 'Rainy Blues') along with three by Clark ('Nursery Blues,' 'Nicely,' and 'Two For One'), as well as a tender version of Vernon Duke's 'Cabin in the Sky.'"

The result is Hail To The Underground, a collection of renditions by Jack Harlon & The Dead Crows selected for their musical importance and personal meaning, with the general throughline being that none of the original artists are household names. DROP COLLECTIVE Lagrimas Negras 7"
After their album Come Shine (BR 050CD/LP), Drop Collective dares to revisit the immortal bolero, composed by the Cuban Miguel Matamoros, of which there have been so many versions. Although the band prefers to record their own-penned songs, this is an arrangement that the band is very fond of and is part of their live repertoire, so they couldn't resist. In October 2018, Drop Collective were invited to perform at the 50th anniversary of the BCN Jazz Fest which paid tribute to Bebo Valdés and, at the same time, they were given an ambitious task: to do a version of "Lágrimas Negras" inspired by the one made by the Cuban pianist himself. Daniel Ferruz, the band's keyboardist, took on the challenge of making the arrangement with the initial difficulty of the personality that Valdés's version already has. He confesses that he was afraid to change things, but finally he decided to give it a roots reggae approach, but with more rocker spaces. He kept the sax solo and lyrics intact, and introduced a novel reharmonization at the end. The result is spectacular, the band from Barcelona fuses with their usual ska-jazz mastery, sounds of the two Antillean islands in a version that will surely become a classic. The recording was made at La Panchita Studio (Barcelona) and the B-side includes a dub version of the song by the dub wizard Chalart 58.

DANCE CRASHERS, THE Rawtown CD
Young Valencian band that favors a pure style, remaining faithful to the origins, but with a powerful and contemporary sound. Rawtown is a conceptual album, musically shielded by a succession of songs in which the band walks through many of the Jamaican styles always with a reason and devoted to their own roots. After two years of intense work, The Dance Crashers release Rawtown, their second album. It is a concept album divided into four chapters inspired by the lunar phases, in which the action takes place in the fictitious neighborhood of Rawtown. These four phases illustrate a cyclical process that goes from darkness to light, being darkness the reflection of individualism and light the symbol of the fullness of collective feeling. The storyline is musically shielded by a succession of songs, sung in English, in which the band goes through most of the styles of Jamaican music, ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, dancehall... always in a justified way and firmly devoted to their own roots. In the first phase, the new moon, the city is too big, and the individual is too small. The air and the noise suffocate him/her. Follows the routine, does not stop doing things and needs to flee. "Concrete Jail", "A Day in Your Life", and "Cry" reflect these feelings perfectly: individualism, precariousness, and indifference. In the second phase, shaped by the tracks "Spoiler", "Riot", and "What If", you enter the stage of transformation. The crescent moon illuminates the awareness, the anger against the elites, against racism. As a consequence, the need to show empathy towards sisters and brothers and to fight collectively. In the third phase, the full moon phase, the fullness of collective brotherhood is reached. With "Unity", "Now and Then", and "Dirty Paradise", the individual stays in the same space, in the same streets, but perceives them differently. He/she makes a shelter of the environment and the people, with their lights and shadows, where he/she is not alone. Finally, the phase of renewal and closing of the cycle, "Keep On", "Still Here", and "Manifesto". Inevitably one has to learn to live with contradictions and what is really important is this new beginning, in which no one is better than anyone else. A point of liberation, of harvesting what has been sown by previous generations and in which the way is made for the generations to come.

"Rare recording of Dave Brubeck, Eugene Wright and Joe Morello when Paul Desmond missed his flight to Vienna. The Dave Brubeck Quartet suddenly became a Trio for this Vienna concert when, after the previous evening's concert in Hamburg, Paul Desmond went out and never made his plane to Austria. NOVA, JACQUELINE Creacion de la Tierra - Ecos palpitantes de Jacqueline Nova: Musica electroacustica e instrumental (1964-1974) 2LP
Jacqueline Nova (Ghent, Belgium, 1935 - Bogotá, Colombia, 1975), a representative figure of Colombian avant-garde music, developed important and radical work within the field of electronic and instrumental music, as well as in interdisciplinary forms. This album, Creación de la Tierra - Ecos palpitantes de Jacqueline Nova: Música electroacústica e instrumental (1964-1974) ("Creation of the Earth - Throbbing Echoes of Jacqueline Nova: Electroacoustic and Instrumental Music (1964-1974)")¸ under the curatorship and research of the Colombian composer Ana María Romano G., recovers Nova's most important electroacoustic works: "Creación de la tierra (Creation of the Earth)" (1972), "Oposición-Fusión (Opposition-Fusion)" (1968) and "Resonancias 1 (Resonances 1)" (1968-69), as well as the music for the film Camilo el cura guerrillero (Camilo the Guerrilla Priest) (1974), composed during her stay at the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales (CLAEM) , of the Torcuato Di Tella Institute, in Buenos Aires, as well as in the Study of Phonology of the University of Buenos Aires. The compilation also includes the instrumental works "Omaggio a Catullus" (1972-1974), "Transiciones (Transitions)" (1964-1965), and "Asuimetrías (Asymmetries)" (1967), in which she explores randomness, timbre possibilities or the encounter between acoustic and electronic media. The interest in experimenting with the human voice, and interdisciplinary work involving visual arts, were some of the aspects that have defined Jacqueline Nova's work. Ana María Romano has written: "Nova lived in an environment hostile to change, to debate and discussion, hostile to her being an autonomous and lesbian woman. She undertook feats that make her a pioneer, even though she did not set out to be taken as one, but only as a result of the commitment, dedication and passion of a creator with her society. Jacqueline Nova died in Bogotá of bone cancer. Her tragic and early death not only cut short a career in full creative force, but also directly affected the development of electroacoustic music in the country. After her death there was a great silence -- close to 15 years -- in musical creation with electronic means. Nova challenged a conservative milieu and survived alone, working in a field thought to be exclusively masculine. But it was a woman who strengthened the use of technology in Colombian music. A risky bet that sadly represented a high cost: Nova was relegated during her lifetime, but her noises managed to shake and question the comfort zones of the Colombian musical establishment." Includes a booklet with extensive information written by Ana María Romano G.; edition of 300.

FAUST Momentaufnahme I CD
Originally part of 2021's Faust Box Set release commemorating the bands 50th anniversary Momentaufnahme I and II are now set for their own standalone release by popular demand. This is for all those that missed out on the limited-edition box set release. They collect together music recorded at the band's studio -- a converted schoolhouse in rural Wümme between 1971 and 1974 in a similar vein to the way in which The Faust Tapes (released in 1973) was assembled. These two albums range from minimal electronic pulses, ambient dreamscapes, vocal collages to heavy drone, ritualistic percussion and psychedelic grooves. Highlights include the hypnotic space jams of "Vorsatz" and "Rückwärts Durch Die Drehtür", the delicate acoustics of "I Am... An Artist" and the radiophonic workshop-esq "Weird Sounds Sound Bizarre".Let's let founding member Jean-Hervé Peron explain more: "Faust? were originally a group of musicians, each following our own inspirations, desires, illusions: many facets, many directions, different styles, different languages. We often had to struggle with the clash of our egos but there was also a natural tacit understanding of each other's role. We had the privilege to work with a great producer and an extraordinary recording engineer. From spring 1971 to spring 1974 we existed as a group. Then Faust became a Gestalt with various incarnations. Momentaufnahme? Don't panic here, it is only German for 'Snapshot'. Momentaufnahme I and II present a collection of unreleased snapshots which offer a wonderful insight into the world of Faust. Some tracks are extremely raw and experimental, others are fully rounded productions. So far we have MA I and MA II but we plan to do more of these when we come up with more material or new ideas."

PALMER, MICHAEL Angella LP
"Originally released in 1984, back on vinyl. The eighties were a particularly difficult time for Jamaican singers: reggae music, on record and live and direct, was dominated by deejays and a singer had to be very, very special to encroach on the talking artists' monopoly on popularity. Only a handful of singers had the style and stamina to take on the challenge and musical maestros such as Barrington Levy, Frankie Paul and Michael 'Lick Shot' Palmer stood head and shoulders above the competition. Michael Palmer, also known as Palmer Dog, was one of the most popular and successful vocalists of the dance hall era and had risen to prominence on the sound system circuit by "employing similar improvisatory techniques at the mic. He certainly needed them to stay ahead of the fierce competition from the sound system deejays who were turning reggae music away from its international ambitions and returning it to its origins in the dance halls of Jamaica."

LONG RYDERS, THE September/November LP
"First album in four years from the band who helped invent alt-country and Americana. Produced by Ed Stasium, best known for his long relationship as producer and engineer for the Ramones. Ed has also produced two previous Long Ryders' records and worked with Smithereens, Soul Asylum, Motörhead, Marshall Crenshaw, Living Colour, the Hoodoo Gurus, and Julian Cope. Long Ryder guitarist/mandolinist Sid Griffin states, 'September/November is two-thirds the distilled alt-country genre we helped found back in the 1980s, one third Paisley Underground adventurism yet seasoned with a dash of our own crazed soulfulness thrown in.' Due to the unexpected passing of bassist Tom Stevens, bass duties on the new album were shared by Murry Hammond of Americana stalwarts the Old 97s and the Long Ryders' own Stephen McCarthy. Guests appearing on the album include D. J. Bonebrake of Los Angeles's punk legends X and Royal Academy of Music violinist Kerenza Peacock of the Coal Porters (now a popular LA session player for Disney and the Los Angeles Philharmonic)."

DINOSAUR JR. Puke + Cry: The Sire Years 1990-1997 4CD BOX
"Four-CD box set featuring all four albums recorded by J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr for Sire Records. Formed in 1984, Dinosaur Jr carved a singular path through the latter half of the 1980s, issuing three highly influential albums in the process before finding a home with Sire Records, who issued a run of four excellent albums as the alternative American rock scene the band had long been part of exploded, dominate and then retreated during the 1990s. Critically lauded on release, 1991's Green Mind took Dinosaur Jr's reputation to a new level, aided by the singles 'The Wagon' and 'Whatever's Cool With Me', and remains one of the band's best collections, and a firm fan favorite. Next, 1992's Where You Been continued that global ascent, becoming Dinosaur Jr's most successful album up to that point, reaching #50 in the US (where it sold over a quarter of a million copies), hitting #10 in the UK album charts, and spawning the hit single 'Start Choppin'. 1994's Without A Sound, the band's 6th album, continued that growth in popularity and commercial achievement, reaching #44 in the US (their highest ever album placing there) and featuring the hit singles 'Feel The Pain' and 'I Don't Think So'. Such was their appeal that the they also reached the mainstream during this period, contributing 'Blah' to the hit US TV show Melrose Place before 1997's Hand It Over appeared at a time of declining international interest in American alternative rock. Nevertheless, the album received the widespread approval and appreciation amongst critics and reviewers, and was followed, unusually, by an EP of non-album songs recorded for the Matt Dillon movie Grace Of My Heart, which became the band's last significant released before a lengthy hiatus. Collecting together all of these recordings, alongside B-sides, alternates and session tracks, 'Yeah Right' is a perfect accompaniment to the band's original independent period, and captures Dinosaur Jr as best heard -- loud, heavy and ready to explode."

SCOTT, KENNETH Light Blooming 12"
Follows well-received collaborative outings for Circus Company as 1/2 of the SF dynamo duo Moniker whose classic "Billy D" anthem and respective Patrice Scott remix graced the early catalog, followed by the galactic flex Straylight EP with Cali brethren Dave Aju on velvet vocoder vox b/w a stellar Kai Alcé remix on the Another off-shoot imprint, and of course his indelible contributions to the arrangements/derangement of the wondrous KAMM LP Cookie Policies. Kenneth Scott is essentially an extended family household name for the label and so they present his initial solo release for the Circus Company label proper. Schooled as always in the deepest of electronic music roots and classiest of track traditions, the three pieces that form the Light Blooming EP puzzle display all the prized synth wizardry and production ingenuity the label have come to expect from the Berlin-based veteran."Firesound" kicks you off in fine form, with a glistening array of pads and tight arpeggios that give way to a soulful funk strut that any fan of Detroit-style electro flavors will enjoy to the fullest. We then move to the stylized 4/4 pulse of the aptly-titled "Lost Sonar", an extended live set for Lost Sonar Collective skillfully condensed and finessed into a smooth-as-silk true deep house cut, where warm synth tones set the sound bed while shards of sharper percussion and angular textures flash and fizz throughout, creating an ultra-fresh contrasting feel while a rock-solid groove grinds us along faithfully. Scott then finally closes out the set with the powerful and titular "Light Blooming" which begins with a similar rising pad intro before unleashing fierce and raw overdriven drum programming, teasing us out to the two-minute mark when the mighty sub bass line and multi-layered arps drop in to devastating effect, bubbling and building to a bold harmonic apex, before eventually bringing us down softly and somehow with ease after such a glorious rise. Filled with early-Warp feels and futurist sci-fi hopes in equal measure, the Light Blooming EP is three tracks of pure funk precision and expressive musical class from the man Kenneth Scott.

"New studio album by Billy and CTMF! Featuring Billy at his song writing best! Includes covers of Richard Hell and Jimi Hendrix songs, along with a newly recorded version of 'Bob Dylan's Got a Lot to Answer For'! We asked Billy a few questions about this mighty fine album... Great album title! It will seem counter-intuitive to some but why do you favor failure over success? If the Pop Rivets (the first group I was in in 1977) had been 'successful' in the formal sense, then it would have been a disaster -- no learning about sound, growth, and independence. Luckily, we considered ourselves successful from the outset by doing what we wanted the way we wanted. We believed the hype of punk rock -- do-it-yourself and lived it, unlike the 'successful' leaders of the movement. I've always wanted small gigs where your open and exposed. The same with recording -- excitement, mistakes, humor, and hopefully joy. The reason to become 'successful' is to cut yourself from your origin and roots. In short, we'll decide what success is, not a critic, the world, or public opinion. The album opens with a cracking cover of Richard Hell's 'Love Comes in Spurts'. You've previously recorded this with Thee Headcoats on Brother Is Dead... But Fly Is Gone! from 1998. What made you want to revisit the song? Has Richard heard it? If so, what did he think? I forgot that we did it with Thee Headcoats. If I had that LP, I'd give it a listen. I do remember covering it live with The Pop Rivets in 1978. Richard said he liked it a lot and told his girlfriend he only wants my tunes at his funeral. I said, 'not too soon I hope.' He assured me he's well."

GRAY MATTER Take It Back LP
2023 repress on blue vinyl. "Gray Matter officially formed in the summer of 1983 but Geoff Turner, Mark Haggerty and Dante Ferrando had been playing in bands since their early middle school days. By early 1983, Dante and Mark were playing in Iron Cross, but when the band's image began to reflect its supporters more than the members themselves, Dante quit. Soon after Mark also left and the two reunited with Geoff and Iron Cross roadie Steve Niles and started playing shows around Washington, DC as Gray Matter. The band's first album, Food For Thought was originally released on R&B records in 1985 while the members were still in high school. Food For Thought was the name of Dante's father's restaurant (and Gray Matter's rehearsal space) and was soon to host many of the shows by Rites of Spring, Gray Matter, Embrace, etc. that gave rise to DC's Revolution Summer in 1985. The Take It Back EP, released in September 1986, was recorded in the immediate afterglow of Revolution Summer and features that era's raw melodic energy contained only by Gray Matter's impeccable song craft. Shortly after the EP's release Mark left DC to go to college and the band went on one of its frequent hiatuses. Gray Matter re-emerged in the spring of 1990 and released a 4 song double seven inch in 1991 (DIS58.5). The band released its final full-length, Thog in 1992 and continues to appear for one-off shows from time to time. In late 2008, Dischord Records began recutting much of our vinyl catalog here in the United States. We began by re-pressing current titles, and later re-issuing others, all re-cut at Chicago Mastering Service. This edition of Gray Matter's Take It Back has been expanded into a full-length LP with the addition of the 4 songs from the band's 1991 double seven inch. The vinyl was re-cut from original source tapes, is being reissued on colored vinyl and features a free MP3 album download coupon."

CENTRE HENRI POUSSEUR Centre Henri Pousseur: 50 Years 2CD
"Henri Pousseur and Pierre Bartholomee founded the Centre de Recherches musicales de Wallonie In 1970; it was renamed Centre Henri Pousseur in 2010. The Centre is the only artistic institution in Belgium that is completely dedicated to the development and performance of mixed music; the year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of its unceasing efforts in the service of this particular field of musical creation. The Centre has selected eight mixed compositions, each of which was developed in the Centre's studios in Liège by and with composers closely associated with the institution, from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, from Flanders, and from other countries. This release not only highlights some of the most recent developments in mixed music, but also recalls the musical originality of Henri Pousseur, the Centre's founder: one of his most important mixed compositions was updated by the Centre on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his death in 2019. We are sure that this well-filled release -- it contains more than two hours of music -- will be a fine testimonial to the special character of the Centre Henri Pousseur and to its close and lively collaborations with composers and performers. Features: Claire Bourdet - violin; Kim Van den Brempt - piano; Wibert Aerts - violin; Galle Hyernaux - guitar; Frederik Croene Elisa Medinilla - piano; Toon Fret - flute; Vincent Royer - viola; HERMESensemble conducted by Koen Kessels; Karin de Fleyt (flute), Peter Merckx (clarinet), Marc Tooten (viola), Nicolas Dupont (violin), Stijn Saveniers (cello), Gaetan La Mela (percussion), Geert Callaert (piano), Patrick Delges, Xavier Mees, Gilles Doneux, Jean-Marc Sullon (electronics)."

MERTENS, JEF No Mathematics LP
Hailing from Geel, Jef Mertens has been researching, documenting and subtly exploring the experimental music scene in Belgium and beyond for the better part of two decades. As a filmmaker, he's dug deep in the realm of Flemish primitive fringe (Dronevolk) and chronicled the makings of giants like Sonic Youth and Borbetomagus. After running the now-defunct free tape label Dadaist Tapes, Mertens comes with a release of his own: No Mathematics, the first record collab between KRAAK and Feeding Tube. It's an entrancing debut, where shruti box and guitar conjoin to create circling ragas of solemn yet resounding force.

AMBASSADOR HAZY The Door Between LP
Cardinal Fuzz and Feeding Tube Records present the new Ambassador Hazy LP, The Door Between. Following 2002's much loved and long sold out The Traveler, Ambassador Hazy is back with The Door Between (the title taken from an old detective novel) which is a perfect metaphor for album's explorations into consciousness and perception, seeing the connectedness between all things while also embracing one's solitude and separation from others. Themes that were amplified as the record was recorded alone in a basement during a pandemic. With some new mics and toys featuring on this recording, Sterling experiments a bit more with recording techniques and different sounds which bring about a more overtly psychedelic sound than on The Traveler and with a few songs being more explicitly drug related (and or induced). The Door Between is about being an outsider, or at least that feeling of being outside of things and the ways one might find connection be that through drugs, music, love. So while "Orange Halos" starts the proceedings the overtly upbeat and infectious melodies we have come to know and love from Ambassador Hazy -- by the time you reach "Going Down" you are dropped into Martin Rev/Suicide synth/drum machine head trip. So, join Ambassador Hazy -- maybe crack open a beer, smoke a joint, take a tab or just sit in your favorite chair -- drop the needle on The Door Between and let it transport you to that other place.

AMBASSADOR HAZY Glacial Erratics LP
Cardinal Fuzz and Feeding Tube Records make available the debut release by Ambassador Hazy, Glacial Erratics, previously releases as a private press edition in 2020. Ambassador Hazy is a solo recording project by Sterling DeWeese who was previously in a slew of obscure bands including Heavy Hands, Dirty Rainbow, Terrapin Gun, Madison Electric, and Black Fantastic. Glacial Erratics is really a comeback record as Sterling had totally stopped playing for seven or eight years after he got married and started a family and the business of life took over -- but the calling was always there and as his youngest began to grow -- the time became available for Sterling to answer the call. First though he needed to get his ½" reel-to-reel 8-track back in working order and set up a studio space and fit it out with gear. Soon he was playing again with some local musicians and recording some of those performances live to tape but the hassle of getting everyone together at the same time was hard, so in the downtime Sterling began focusing on recording on his own. Thus, the name Glacial Erratics was born, as it was all a bit of a hodge podge (i.e. erratic) and ended up being done over several years (i.e. glacial). Once there was enough material finished, between band tracks and solo tracks Sterling compiled them. The resulting album is a kaleidoscope of contagious hooks and artfully crafted songs, laid to tape and brought to life in brilliant color. "Black Smoke Rising" is a blur of fuzz guitar and stuttering snare hits as Sterling says "I believe in the future -- don't take it away" and over 14 tracks you are treated to artfully crafted acid pop gems that are riddled with potholes and weird left turns, with hooks that seem to bubble out of nowhere before receding into themselves. The lo-fi aesthetic works perfectly, with the songs benefiting from the warm fuzz tones of the instruments and vocals recorded onto that now fully functioning ½" tape machine. Sterling eventually self-released Glacial Erratics after seeking advice from his good friend Josh (Travelling Circle, Lime Eyelid) who had recently self-released his LP -- the record eventually reached John Westhaver (TBWNIS).

FAKI, LEN Fusion EP 01/03 12"
Announcing the release of Len Faki's extended debut album, Figure x34 is the first in a series of special EPs that give a glimpse into the body of work which the label head has put together as Fusion over the course of the last two years. Using the double album format, Faki finally found himself free to explore the whole breadth of electronic club culture, inspired by decades' worth of his own experiences as a DJ and clubgoer. "Don't Be Stupid Day", centered around the namesake vocal, is a slow-burning, deep techno roller, while "Hymn (In The Name Of Fantasy)" contrasts a dreamy, wisp-like melody with heavy punches of broken up bass. Both cleverly represent the wide variety of sounds found on the more ambient and house-leaning disc two of the album. Disc one is a contemporary take on the techno that has defined Faki's life and career since the '90s. "Hymn (In The Name Of Freedom)" borrows on the trancey lead synths and booming bass from those early days, making for an unusually euphoric and uplifting Faki track. Finally, "Temple" aligns with his reputation as a DJ, steadily layering mechanic percussion for an ever-increasing sense of rhythmic urgency.

No/On collects eight songs that positively sear as they blast their way into a space once again demanding to be torn apart. EVEN DRONES Ethics 2LP
After two decades of releasing music on 12" vinyl under multiple pseudonyms the duo from Even Drones have completed their first LP. The 20-track double vinyl carries the classic "album era" approach of the '60s and '70s into a modern contemporary work. Each of the four sides of Ethics feels like the chapter of a story balanced into a synthesis of counterpoints from piece to piece. Twisted arrangements are stringed together with danceable tracks and are woven into finespun transmutations of sounds. Sometimes peaceful and regulated, sometimes abstract and complemented with tamed feedback, noises, crackling, and delightful patterns. Like a continuous thread through all titles of the album, the multi-instrumentalists somehow managed to harmonize a twisted array of methods and structures into a coherent listening experience. This full feature-length metamorphosis with no boundaries of styles or genres is released just in time for the tenth anniversary of the band on Freund der Familie. Gatefold.

The first live Miles Davis electric band release since 1977's very dark and heavy Dark Magus. The album features live performances from shows at Boston's Kix Club. The double vinyl release contains reimagined versions of songs from The Man With the Horn (1981), tunes from the pre-electric Gil Evans collaboration Porgy and Bess (1959), and a dedication to the Boston venue called Kix. While this was one of the first live Miles Davis performances in over half a decade it certainly did not show! SAWAI, GENJI Sowaka LP
First time reissue. Sowaka, recorded in 1984, displayed an innovative sound that went beyond genre -- mixing dub, world, jazz, electro, hip-hop, and avant-garde. A perfect match of some of the most experimental artists of that time resulting in an extremely sought after and singular piece of music of the golden Japanese era. A talented crossover. In 1984, working with Bill Laswell, Michael Beinhorn, and Midori Takada would be unlike working with anyone else Genji Sawai had before, pulling him out of the J-jazz experimental scene he was based on. Rather than work off written music, they'd build songs like cooks. Genji might supply the ingredients, perhaps the tonal choices -- sax, FM synths, drum machines, and Bill would task himself to do the "cooking", creating the overall image of the song. It's the use of imagery to have a conversation with each other, musically, that just felt so different to Genji. Unlike the other musicians who contributed to Sowaka, musicians of impressive, rarefied technique like Midori Takada, Shuichi "Ponta" Murakami, and Kazuhiko Shibayama, notation or sheet music wasn't a part of Genji's vocabulary with Bill. With him, drawings were how songs were built from the ether. Whatever image a demo conjured up -- that's where the song had to go. You hear it on songs like "Hikobae" that predicted the chopped and screwed sound that would revolutionize hip-hop years later. On this track what started with a mental picture, of some kind of tree shoot, metastasizes a vision full of no-wave sax skronk dosed with pointillistic dub affectations. Although, Sowaka wasn't tied inherently to its original meaning -- the final utterance from the Buddhist Heart S?tra -- its philosophical meaning wasn't too divorced from the true meaning (or at least, his truest meaning) Genji placed on it here: getting things done. Simply put, all his high-minded ideas wouldn't have come to fruition unless all involved put some serious work into getting the project over the finish line. In five cracking days the album was put on tape and was then jettisoned off to NYC for Bill to put its final touches. Somewhere, between the mind, body, and spirit, closer to one's neck and booty, was this music urging you to simply move elsewhere, further, until you're closer to where Genji's music would land. Includes liner notes.

OI! N'AST Sangre Y Fierru LP
A precursor band of the punk-oi!-folk in Spain, this is one of the most brilliant and original recordings of the style. With the Asturian bagpipe as a banner and sung almost entirely in Asturian language, the band reviews in the lyrics a great part of the topics of oi! and the Asturian mythology. Aggressive and combative music in a historical album. Coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of its release in CD format, Sangre y Fierru, by the Asturian band Oi! n'Ast ("Oi in Asturian"), an iconic record of the Spanish punk-oi!-folk scene, is released remastered on glorious vinyl. Following in the footsteps of Dropkick Murphys, the band was formed in the late '90s to combine punk spirit and Asturian soul, quickly gaining a loyal and fervent local following. In 2002 Sangre y Fierru is released in CD format (first reference of the label Guns of Brixton Records) obtaining good repercussion, which leads them to play in Spain, France, and Switzerland during the following years. The band ended their career in 2006 with a certain bitter taste for the end of an era, but their only album has created a legacy and has grown in importance in these two decades. Sangre y Fierru was one of the most revitalizing surprises of the time, including twelve street-punk songs in Asturian and Spanish, to which now, in the remastered LP edition, two bonus tracks have been added, "Kaos" and "Gotta Go" (a tribute to the influential band Agnostic Front). There are nods to Asturian mythology in "Gauson el Terrible" (Asturian leader in the fight against the Roman invasion), to the miner's revolution of "Ochobre 34" (October 34) and criticism in "A la Cai" (To the Streets) and "Velenu Nel Cuerpu" (Poison in the Body). There are also cries of unity in "La Mesma Voz" (The Same Voice) and, directly, hymns of Asturian pride in "Fechu n'Asturies" (Made in Asturias), or "Azul y Amariellu" (Blue and Yellow), the latter with the collaboration of Pirri, singer of the hard-core band Escuela de Odio. Of course, without forgetting soccer, "Sangre en la Gradas" (Blood on the Terraces) and beer, "Juntos en el Bar" (Together in the Bar). An album that is a real steamroller of direct and simple punk, to which Hugo's voice gives it a rough and concise character. The cover of the LP is the work of the tattoo artist from Gijon, Fu, who had already designed the CD in 2002.

PERK, LEE Tumbleweed Revisited LP
Fifties textures, rockabilly echoes, sixties British essences, and strolls through the New York of the seventies in an album originally self-produced in 2021 in CD format that deserved to be released on glorious vinyl. Now remixed, remastered, and with two bonus tracks. As a natural follow up to the 2016 album All In, Lee Perk brings you back to his sonic coordinates in a more balanced and sophisticated way, if possible. With fifties textures creeping through tracks like "Bad Times" and "Faster than Ever" and a set of rockabilly echoes in "A New Blend", carrying the flame of classic names like the ones of Roy Orbison, Everly Brothers, or Buddy Holly. "Run Your Filth," a previously unreleased track, also follows that direction and could have been a great A-side. But Tumbleweed Revisited also pays a visit to the brilliant and poppy sixties, crystalline, in songs of an unpolluted pop like "Talk", "Moonhall Park", or "See Me In the Morning", and more lysergic, in "Not Yet Enough", which opens the LP in a luminous way. "Scare Me" is a track with deep enthusiasm and disposition to dance a sweaty night club and Perk becomes a chameleon-like chronicler reciting "Bird And Giraffe" with sober instrumentation. "Carrie Fisher" previously released as a demo and the bonus track "Great Again (Trump's Theme)", complete a remarkable album that closes with "Años y Años de Soledad" in which Lee Perk leaves English to sing in Spanish. Alfredo Niharra himself (aka Lee Perk) plays all the instruments on the album, with the sporadic collaboration of Alex Blasco on keys, Juan López on bass, Carlos Screamers on double bass, and Ricky Ibáñez on drums. Juan López has been in charge of the remastering and remixing. It is proved that the guy from Getxo (outskirts of Bilbao) is a skilled and restless guy who underpins his sound in those that shone at the beginning of the second half of the last century and that, somehow, have marked his growth as an aficionado and his course as a musician, although without disregarding trends closer in time. Proof of this is his career as a member of Tulsa, Quite Fantastic, The Dolly Beatles, Leslie, The Fakeband... Tumbleweed Revisited is an album that deserved to be released on glorious vinyl.

OLIVEROS, PAULINE The Well & The Gentle 2LP
The Well & The Gentle, featuring two of the major works by Pauline Oliveros, are presented here in a first-time reissue on double vinyl, originally released in 1985. If Oliveros had followed a more conventional path she may have, all social obstacles aside, been considered among the major composers of her time. However, Oliveros approached composition in a more egalitarian manner. She wrote music for musicians to interact with or, in the composer's words, she wished to create "an inclusive and interdependent and unfolding world of relationships." Oliveros'd propensity towards inclusion is part of what makes this work so remarkably distinctive. The Well & The Gentle is carefully crafted, allowing performers to participate in the creation of the work. Players are asked to collaborate, focus, react and make imaginative choices. Only then can the performers "pass through stages of awakening to the possibilities inherent in making music, working together, leading to the essence of what can shape musical impulses and individual freedom simultaneously." Unlike most major composers of the era, Oliveros's work focuses on collaboration and improvisation. For Oliveros, the processes involved in making music are as fundamental as the music itself. Oliveros creates, as Arthur Sabatini put it so eloquently in the liner notes, "A world in which sound and the practices entailed in making music merge; become, at once, source and atmosphere, energy and essence, presence and dynamic." Gatefold sleeve with extensive liner notes.Pauline Oliveros was an electronic music pioneer, accordionist, composer and educator who resided in Kingston, New York. Her instrument was tuned in Just Intonation and she often included it in her meditative improvisational music. Her music is not meditative in the sense that it is intended for listening to while meditating, rather each piece is a form of meditation, such as her aptly titled Sonic Meditations. A central figure in post-war electronic art music, Oliveros is one of the original members of the San Francisco Tape Music Center (along with Morton Subotnick, Ramon Sender, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Anthony Martin), which was the resource on the U.S. West coast for electronic music during the 1960s. The Center later moved to Mills College, where she was its first director, and is now called the Center for Contemporary Music. Oliveros often improvised with the Expanded Instrument System, an electronic signal processing system she designed, in her performances and recording.

BELLAOUEL, SABRINA Al Hadr CD
On Al Hadr, Sabrina Bellaouel taps into myriad influences: from spirituality, astrology to club culture, romance, the body and self-love. Creating a balance between places, identities, and sounds is a huge part of the charm of Al Hadr. As a true Libra, she's finding a balance between honoring her roots and carving out her future. Following two solo EPs, also on InFiné -- 2020's We Don't Need To Be Enemies and 2021's Libra (IF 2081LP) -- the French-Algerian producer and vocalist's unique style of electronic R&B blossoms with Al Hadr, a 13-track album featuring collaborations with dance producer Basile3, experimental club DJ and writer Crystallmess, jazz musician Monomite, and pop singer Bonnie Banane, among others. Born, raised and based in Bagneux, outside the southern périphérique of Paris, Bellaouel lives between worlds. At home, her Algerian heritage and Muslim faith have fused tight familial bonds and a keen sense of history and culture; as "Berbers", she speaks French and Arabic. In her headphones, she finds comfort in the sparse experimentalism of Radiohead and romantic tales of Jill Scott. On the hot club dance floors of Paris, driving house beats connect her to her body. In swirling these private and public passions together on Al Hadr -- which translates from Arabic as "the present time" -- Bellaouel is the most vulnerable she's ever been on record. Classic neo-soul and silken R&B blend with club electronics. Tender harmonies are sung and rhymes are spoken in English, French, and Arabic, exploring love, faith, and identity. Samples of drum machines are the backbone for wisps of woodwind, strings, keys and environmental "found sounds", including Bellaouel's own live recordings.

TIETCHENS, ASMUS Ptomaine 2 CD
"Asmus Tietchens is a sound artist and composer from Hamburg, Germany. He got interested in Musique Concrete by listening to a German radio program when he was ten years old. In 1965, at the age of 18, Asmus started experimenting with tape loops and turned them into musical collages. Soon, the use of synthesizers was added. In 1980 his debut album Nachtstücke was released, produced by Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream. This was soon followed by a series of albums of electronic pop music for the Sky label, home of many Krautrock bands. Tietchens often uses special source materials for his compositions such as water ('Seuchengebiete'), human voices ('Von Mund zu Mund'), paper ('Papier ist geduldig'). He is associated with the industrial music scene through his collaborations and releases on labels such as United Dairies, Esplendor Geometrico or Dom Records. Tietchens never studied composition, he has no academic background, everything he does is self-taught or learning by doing. Nevertheless, he was professor for sound design in Hamburg in recent years. Ptomaine was originally released on RRRecords in 1996 as a 3 LP set. This is the second volume of the first ever CD re-issue."

MCPHEE & JOHN EDWARDS, JOE Tell Me How Long Has Trane Been Gone (for James Baldwin And John Coltrane) CD
"Joe McPhee, born 1939 in Florida, USA, is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser, conceptualist and theoretician. He is currently the member of Trio X, Survival Unit III and has collaborated with Pauline Oliveros, Peter Brötzmann, Evan Parker, Raymond Boni, The Thing, Trespass Trio, and Universal Indians among many others. With a career spanning nearly 50 years and over 100 recordings, he continues to tour internationally, forge new connections and reach for music's outer limits. John Edwards is a true virtuoso on the double bass whose staggering range of techniques and boundless musical imagination have redefined the possibility of the double bass and dramatically expanded its role, whether playing solo or with others. Perpetually in demand, he has played with Evan Parker, Sunny Murray, Derek Bailey, Joe McPhee, Lol Coxhill, Peter Brötzmann, Mulatu Astatke and many others. In 2019, McPhee and Edwards met at Artacts festival in Austria and performed together as a duo for the first time. The concert was held at a public school with the duo performing in front of the Wilder Kaiser Mountain and left the audience stunned and speechless. This CD is a recording of this amazing concert. Joe McPhee plays sax and sings, John Edwards plays the double bass."

SKEIN Spectra & Affrays CD
"In early 2002, Achim Kaufmann, Frank Gratkowski and Wilbert de Joode first got together as a trio at a small venue in Amsterdam. Since then, the three musicians have been touring and performing internationally on a regular basis, while constantly developing, deepening and enriching their musical rapport now documented on five CDs so far: kwast on Konnex; Unearth on Nuscope; Palaë and Oblengths on Leo Records; and Geäder on Gligg Records. To celebrate their ten-year anniversary as a trio in 2013, Kaufmann/Gratkowski/de Joode invited Richard Barrett, Tony Buck, and Okkyung Lee to form the sextet Skein which led to a series of concerts and a release on Leo Records in 2014. An extended version of Skein performed at the 2016 Berlin jazz fest, and the original Skein line-up came back together again to perform at the 2017 Kaleidophon festival in Ulrichsberg, Austria. In 2018 Skein performed the first time in the actual septet formation at the Konfrontationen Festival Nickelsdorf and in 2021 at the Klangspuren Festival Schwaz. 'The music is very much like a chemical reaction as maybe seen from the inside. Sounds are discontinuous and fragmented; the decomposing anions and cations oscillate under their own electrostatic charges to form new links where they can, rather than where they are willed, until one must wonder if any of the equations will ever reach equilibrium. This is a fine album of startlingly free improvisation. It's spectacular.' says Ken Cheeetham in Jazz Views."

RANDOM, ERIC The Worm Turns CD
"All-new album by Eric Random, Manchester electronic music pioneers known for collaborations with Cabaret Voltaire. Eric Random is a British pioneer of post punk electronica. Born in 1961 Eric soon joined the Buzzcocks' road crew. At the age of 17 he became a third of a group called The Tiller Boys, the other two being Pete Shelley and Francis Cookson. They played their live debut in 1978, supporting Joy Division at Manchester's Factory club. For Pete Shelley, The Buzzcocks were his main concern, so The Tiller Boys soon fell apart. Eric founded Free Agents with Cookson and soon met Richard Kirk and Stephen Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire. Thus, he got involved in the Sheffield scene as much as the Manchester one. Despite the two cities being only an hour's drive apart, their respective music scenes were very different. Manchester was the number one spot for postpunk with band like Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, James, Magazine or A Certain Ratio. Sheffield went a very different way. It is birthplace for groups like The Cabs, The Human League, Clock DVA, ABC or Heaven 17, all influential European acts of electronic music. Eric Random felt home in both scenes. His first solo efforts were recorded and produced at Cabaret Voltaire's Western Works studio. A change in sound became obvious. Eric later merged his electro funk with ethnic influences. Playing with people like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sparked an interest in Sufi music. He travelled extensively, regularly to India where he once even spent eleven months in a row. Random also fronted Nico's band until her untimely death in 1988. They recorded and album together, Camera Obscura, produced by John Cale. Random then went on a long hiatus. In 2014 he made his comeback. The Worm Turns was recorded over the last few years, during the pandemic, and finished in late 2022. It sees Eric following the path of his latest albums, electronic dance music that leaves his ethnic influences behind."

AGNEL LANZ VATCHER Animals CD
"Debut album by free jazz trio consisting of prepared piano, turntables and drums. With solid training as a classical musician, Sophie Agnel took a close interest in modern jazz before committing in the early Nineties to the shifting, deliciously uncertain ground of free improvisation, thanks to her fascination for the powers of expression displayed by a few great keyboard-heretics such as Keith Tippett, Fred Van Hove or Christine Wodrascka. She began reworking the prepared piano techniques imagined by John Cage and transformed her instrument into a sort of extended piano. Coming from a Punk music background Joke Lanz started in the mid-80s to play experimental and noise music. Best known for his internationally acclaimed project Sudden Infant, Lanz is presenting his work since 30 years all over the world. Born in Switzerland and currently operating out of Berlin, he is one of the most prolific and profound artists working in the border zones where performance and body art meet Improvisation and Noise. California native Michael Vatcher, now residing in Amsterdam, quickly progressed from hitting household furniture to taking vibraphone and snare drum lessons as a child. The trio impresses with precise playing, intensity, spontaneity and a great sense of musical humor. Radical playing techniques, curiosity and the exploration of sound possibilities create constant tension. Their first trio release Animals brings together 13 tracks full of twists and turns, creative lightness and complex virtuosity."

RAPOON These Are Dreams CD
"Founded in 1992 after Robin Storey left Zoviet France, Rapoon soon became an outstanding ethno-dark ambient project that has gained a cult following all over the world. More than 80 albums have been released over those nearly 30 years, some more beat driven, others more playful and with ambient sounds and ethnic influences. Rapoon has never stopped evolving -- think of Cultural Forgeries, an album full of unplugged acoustic music. Or Downgliding, full of compositions on the piano. Recent Klanggalerie albums include Waiting by the River, an album that introduced vocals to the Rapoon sound, or Little Rocket Man which was inspired by the political situation in 2018 with Trump as president in the United States. These Are Dreams is a new album full of rhythmic music that was composed over the last few years. It has the Rapoon trademark sound but is beat driven from start to end."

FOX, HARDY Wallpaper CD
"Hardy Fox was the primary composer of The Residents. He created an incredible body of work, using all kinds of names other than The Residents, amongst them Combo De Mechanio, Sonidas De La Noche, Dead Eye Dick, Charles Bobuck or Black Tar And The Cry Babies. Hardy first stopped touring with The Residents due to health issues. Soon afterwards, he left the group completely to concentrate on his solo work. After several albums as Charles Bobuck (later only Bobuck), the name given to him when still a member of The Residents, he later dropped all pseudonyms to work as Hardy Fox. His first self-titled solo recording was an album full of minimal love songs, a portrait of the young Hardy Fox. The second, Nachtzug was about his last days touring with The Residents. It was followed by Rilla Contemplates Love, a concept album about the thoughts and feelings of a gorilla. Wallpaper was originally released on Hardy Fox's website and is an adaptation of The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The music was created by Hardy, the text was read by Joey R."

AIN SOPH An Die Freude: Live in Vienna October 13, 2021 CD
"Recording of a live concert of Italian masters of dark ambient and neofolk Ain Soph. Ain Soph arose in Rome in the early 1980s, composing disturbing industrial-ambient soundtracks for their esoteric rituals. The music of their first tape releases is dark, frightening and evocative. In 1988 they released their first LP, the masterpiece Kshatriya, blending neoclassical arrangements, noise and experimental sounds. At the beginning of the 1990's, Ain Soph radically changed direction, first releasing a collection of sacral-hymn songs, then exploring traditional folk music and psychedelic hard rock. The album Finis Gloriæ Mundi from 2018 added electronic beats to the Ain Soph sound. In October 2021, the band played a show with Der Blutharsch and The Infinite Church Of The Leading Hand in Vienna, during the difficult time of the Covid pandemic. Both gigs were recorded, and now Klanggalerie are very happy to present to you the Ain Soph concert in Vienna on CD."

LEWIS, FURRY Live at the Gaslight at the Au Go Go CD
"Walter E. 'Furry' Lewis was born in Greenwood, Mississippi in the 1890's. It was in Memphis in the late 1920's that Furry began recording for Vocalion and RCA Victor. When the depression hit, blues recording slowed down considerably. And as the thirties marched forward, country blues records sold less and less. Furry Lewis, like so many great bluesmen, slipped into oblivion. He made his living as a street cleaner for too many years. In the late Fifties, Sam Charters rediscovered Lewis and recorded him for Prestige. But Furry still had to make his living in the Memphis sanitary department with no means of making another career in music and with no knowledge of the social security to which he was entitled. By the late sixties, things began to stir in earnest, and his musical career took on a second life. His playing is not strictly in the Mississippi delta tradition. Aside from ragtime and Southern Tennessee blues influences, Lewis is uniquely creative unto himself. He uses the guitar in very untraditional ways, as a drum, as a second singing voice and as a walking bass. You can hear all of these techniques on this recording. This album was recorded at the Gaslight in New York City's Greenwich Village in September 1971. It was Furry's first New York appearance in well over twenty years. The occasion was this live performance that was arranged by writer Jim Nash, who had learned of Furry Lewis from Jimi Hendrix several years earlier. A justifiable analogy can be drawn between the late Hendrix and Furry. Both have used the guitar in unusual and creative ways that are outside its tradition realm, and both have proved themselves as master showmen. The set makes its CD debut with this release."

EMI Cada Segundo Dura Una Eternidad LP
Cada Segundo Dura Una Eternidad is Emiliano Brancciari (leader of No Te Va Gustar) at his most personal and intimate version. 12 rock songs in the most classic sense, illuminated by the modernity of subtle and forceful arrangements. Emiliano puts on the singer-songwriter costume and gets up to the level of his most notable referents: soloist Keith Richards, Tom Petty, Gustavo Cerati, or Phosphorescent, to name a few. The album has a brilliant display of codes and references to the best of Anglo-Saxon rock, both British and North American, reinforced by the participation of experienced local musicians who recorded in the sessions in Long Island City, under the detailed and perfectionist production of Héctor Castillo. In January of 2022 Emiliano Brancciari recorded his first solo album "Cada Segundo Dura Una Eternidad", under the name EMI. The result is a perfect collection of songs that have, at the same time, his personal stamp and a sound axis totally different from what he has us accustomed to as the leader of No Te Va Gustar for more than 28 years. Cada Segundo Dura Una Eternidad is Emiliano Brancciari at his most personal and intimate version, and EMI is the alter ego with which he allows himself something more than just an escape.

KUF Yield 2x12"
KUF create emotion-laden dialogues across layers of time and dimensions of sound. With three albums the Berlin trio pioneered an astonishing inversion of the typical electronic band set up, by pairing a plethora of disembodied, sampled voices with acoustic real-time interaction on bass, drums, and keys. Yield, their fourth album, presents a shift in focus. Less weight on the vocal core -- lots of new integrations of sampling, synthesis and band action in different constellations. This diversification of sources pulls the conceptual stops out and yields a dazzling array of magical instrumentalism. Bold. Catchy. Flourishing. From Gold (MACROM 048CD/LP, 2016) to Universe (MACROM 055CD/LP, 2018), KUF solidified an irresistible marriage of android vocal cords and highly energetic beats. Their third album Re:Re:Re (MACROM 060CD/LP, 2020) applied the concept to remix/cover version hybrids of classics from Macro's stellar back catalog, tackling originals by the likes of rRoxymore, KiNK, Patrick Cowley, Santiago Salazar, and Stefan Goldmann. With proof that the concept could be applied with supremely gratifying results to such diverse contexts, time was ripe to go back to the drawing board and reimagine the perimeter. Now Yield breathes the freedom of playful reassembly of the main ingredients. A sampler's cut-up capabilities triggered by frisky fingers. Persistent bass. Adamant drums. Rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw MPC-based chunky techno. Twelve slices of hyper-integrated real-time magic.

MARTYN BAND, JOHN The Smiling Stranger In Bremen: Live At Schauburg 1983 2CD
"John Martyn's extraordinary talent rightly secures him a unique place in music. Emerging from the 1960's folk boom, John is without doubt one of the most progressive and influential artists. Guitarist, singer and songwriter, his inspirational and innovative music is evidenced in his extensive back catalogue of studio and live albums, each providing a fresh chapter in the evolution of his music. John signed for Island Records and released his first album London Conversation in 1967. By the end of the 1970's he had released a string of acclaimed albums and his music had evolved from fingerpicking acoustic folk to embrace rock, blues, jazz and reggae. John created an astonishingly distinctive sound with his uniquely percussive guitar playing fed through a tremolo/wah combination and echoplex. Always exploring, transforming and refreshing, by the early 1980's John was concentrating on electric guitar, playing it in his own unique style and in his own band (Jeff Allen, dr., among others also Snowy White and Van Morrison as well as Alan Thomson, b, also with Robert Palmer, Chris Rea and Eric Clapton). 'The bearded musician from the north of Britain had obviously consumed a substantial quantity of rum and cola before beginning the concert... and with the help of further drinks musical energy was released, which made the evening a complete success... two impressive hours of most intense music.' The Weser Courier, Bremen's largest daily newspaper, reported a day after John's concert at the club 'Schauburg' in June 1983. No doubt about the rum, but John would have been apoplectic at the suggestion he was from 'the north of Britain' although born in Surrey he was Scottish through and through, and fiercely proud of it!"

We rehearsed in my place for three or four weeks. One evening we got a call regarding some missing guarantee, which ultimately led to the decision to cancel the tour. Just for fun, we played one of the planned sets for a last time. Even though I do not recall pressing a record button, somebody recently dug up a Revox tape of that very set. After performing some digital sonic archaeology on it, it was just released under the very appropriate title Early Water.' And Manuel Göttsching adds: 'Unfortunately, some of the concert dates were not confirmed in time and we had to cancel the complete tour just on the day before we wanted to leave for France. On that evening, nevertheless, we recorded our last rehearsal 'just in case'. It turned out as a flowing harmonic piece, reflecting much of the optimistic air of 1976. MELCHIOR BAND, DAN Welcome To Redacted City LP
"Ask Dan Melchior about the underlying narratives that play out in his records and he'll say he doesn't pay much attention to them. He simply goes where they lead him. A lot has come to pass in Melchior's life over the last few years. He made a cross-country move from his longtime home in Carrboro, NC to greener pastures of Austin, Texas. He's embarked on a brand new relationship, and... oh ...there was a global pandemic that shut down the whole world for a couple of years. It's difficult not to try connecting the dots when listening to his latest album, Welcome To Redacted City, his third release with Atlanta label Midnight Cruiser Records. Songs such as 'Going Outside,' 'The Right Influencer,' 'Incel Country,' and 'Voyager' find the U.K. born, U.S. transplant singing and playing guitar through 21 honest-to-goodness songs backed by a full band -- Chris Girard bass, Anthony Allman keyboard, and drummer Clark Blomquist yielding a cohesive, live band feel that's aligned with Melchior's earlier recordings with his Broke Revue band and many of his older releases for In The Red Records. Loads of distortion and exquisite melodies careen with a poetic and renewed vigor here, each element underscoring an album that is decidedly of the times. Each song navigates a maze of modern dilemmas, viewed through the T.V. and computer screens as the world goes to hell. But Melchior channels his anxieties into 21 uplifting numbers that sit alongside personal disasters and triumphs -- the kinds of things that one obsesses over while living in isolation. The driving bass in 'Voyager' and the ominous voice in 'Get Right Back' spouting, 'They say you can never go back home again,' expand upon any and all expectation, as Melchior's words carry just as much weight as the low rumble of the music. Jumping from captivating melodies into bluesy punk-inflected chargers, the dots start to connect themselves in Redacted City, giving rise to an album steeped in menace and delight, paranoia and confidence."

ESKORBUTO Eskizofrenia (Black Vinyl) LP
Black vinyl. Includes a big poster. Munster Records proudly reissues Eskorbuto's first LP from 1985, one of the most influential punk albums in the Spanish and Latin American scenes, which showcases what they are known for: radicalism, a self-taught style and crude lyrics. When asked to describe the album tracks in an interview at the time of its release, band member Iosu preferred instead to tell some anecdotes about the band and share his views on a few issues. Some excerpts from that interview give a good idea of what this record and band were about: "Many bands have good ideas and I like what they're saying, but when it comes to it, they're just a lie. You're not alive, you're not dead, just condemned. It's worrying, you're part of what you most hate: the system. It's unbelievable. The earth is a big toilet where we all survive and if it's flushed we'll all go to shit. When we were recording 'Rogad A Dios A Los Muertos' and listened to the vocals without music, it seemed like a sort of evil ritual. If we've used the Simmons electronic drums it's because it suited us during the recording. If it's good, hurray for science! The last lyrics we've written say: 'Ignorant people that were afraid of us before/become friendly without our permission/cowards pretending to be brave/badmouthing us in front of people/but careful, we warn you, we're the same as when we started'."

NEO ZELANDA Mix Zelanea LP
First time reissue, originally released in 1986 on Spanish experimental label Auxilio de Cientos. Formed in 1981, Neo Zelanda was the way of expression of a woman, Ani Zinc, who since then began to experiment with vocal music, manipulated tapes or sound collages. As a child, radio had been her only contact with music. She received her first shock listening to "Remember Love", the repetitive song by Yoko Ono. She later found out about Llorenç Barber, Spanish experimental music pioneer. After recording a single ("Paso Hambre") and several cassettes ("Radio-Sabotage", "Ese Lenguaje"), which helped her to gain international recognition, and the inclusion of her work in various contemporary cultural centers (Juan March Foundation, among others), her first LP saw the light of day in 1986 on her own label, Auxilio de Cientos (also home to Diseño Corbusier, pioneer Belgian EBM/industrial band The Klinik, and the amazing compilations Pas De Deux and Terra Incognita). Mix Zelanea brings together part of her experimental work with voices and sound effects ("Si Esto Es Amor" or "Il Drama"), together with new compositions, in which she is accompanied by some friends and welcomes the use of conventional instruments such as drum machines, keyboards, etc., resulting a richer and more diverse outcome ("Alemana Mix", "Extenso Mundo Brillante", etc.)

AMERINDIOS Tu Sueno Es Mi Sueno, Tu Grito Es Mi Canto LP
Reissue. Tu Sueño Es Mi Sueño, Tu Canto Es Mi Canto, is the second and last album by Amerindios, released in 1973. The band was formed in 1968, and although its style was associated with the current then called "nuevo canto", Amerindios innovated by adding instruments such as electric guitars, something that was unusual. The band was formed by artists of great importance in the field, such as Julio Numhauser, founding member of the legendary Quilapayun, Mario Salazar, and Patricio Castillo. An essential album to understand the popular music of Chile in the pre-dictatorship days, for its texture, fine melodies, and excellent songs. Includes the song "A Pie Camino", the last song broadcasted by radio Magallanes and Corporación on the day of the Pinochet coup the state on September 11, 1973. Also includes the song "Mi Río" was winner of the Viña del mar festival in February 1973. A classic. From the original IRT masters (originally released on alternative IRT Label Machitun).

LOS JOCKERS Nueva Sociedad LP
Reissue, originally released in 1967. The band was composed of singer Alan Ferreira, guitarists Sergio del Río and Mario Pregnant, bassist Gustavo Serrano, and drummer Peter Buksdorf are the essential lineup of Los Jockers, which recorded a few singles and released the LPs En La Onda De Los Jockers and Nueva Sociedad, both in 1967. A third album, Los Jockers Y Una Buena Pichanga, already registered changes in the line-up, with the future Aguaturbia member Carlos Corales (guitar) and Willy Cavada (drums) and the former bass player of the almost unnoticed Gaffas, Jimmy Cerda. On the same level as Los Mockers, Los Blue's Men, or Los Saicos are Los Jockers: a band that alternates, for the first time in this album, songs in Spanish and English. It was released in '67 after Los Jockers entered the Guinness Book of Records for having played for 54 hours without stopping. Such a feat took place at the record fair at Paseo Ahumada, grabbing the front pages of the newspapers, colleagues, and even soccer players greeted them and even President Eduardo Frei Montalva invited them to La Moneda. In other words, it was an achievement worthy of national heroes. Los Jockers were also one of the first bands to present a wild and rock aesthetic, in fact, their live performance generated several controversies with the Chilean establishment, such was the scandal they caused, that once a group of hooded outraged people surprised them at night in La Serena and burst into their room to shave their heads. On other occasions, while they were playing on top of a truck next to the Coppelia in Providencia, cadets from the Military School assaulted them. Valuing the rebellious and naive spirit of a song like "Nueva Sociedad" (New Society), which is actually the Kinks' "Party Line" with a new lyric that originally spoke of the "Nueva Suciedad" (new dirt), a "daring" that was not tolerated by the label. Garage rock electricity underlies songs like "La Verdad", "La Corbata De Mi Abuelo", and "Yo Te Quiero". From the original IRT masters.

LOS LARKS A Go-Go LP
Reissue, originally released in 1966. Los Larks were the first exponents of Chilean rock to reach an important repercussion, supported by their aesthetics, close to that of the fab four, and their style, framed in what was then called "a go go" pop rock perfectly executed, highly danceable. This led Los Larks to success despite their short career, just two LPs, and some singles, and to be the main representatives of the visual phenomenon called at that time "colerico". This album is essentially covers of the hits of the moment in the "beat" world, with classics by the Monkees, Dave Clark Five, and of course, their favorite, the Beatles. A legendary album, the first record ever by a Chilean pop-rock band. From the original IRT masters.

LOS JOCKERS En La Onda De LP
Reissue, originally released in 1967. If you like the Rolling Stones of the glorious '60s, or the Yardbirds, or the original psychedelia, this album is for you. The Jockers were one of the pioneer bands of Chilean rock, ahead of their time, and the first to differentiate themselves from the more romantic "new wave" style, by being ahead of the curve in adopting the psychedelic clothes and long hair that were the image of rock in the world at that time. Los Jockers were formed in 1964, and started playing live in 1965, and were one of the first rock groups to have great success locally. They used flashy clothes, influenced by the British mods at first, and by psychedelia, and had a very aggressive and raw live show. Their music was called "pop contracultural" (counterculture pop). Their version of the Rolling Stones' classic "Satisfaction" hit the radios before the original Stones version was known locally, and it was such a smash hit that during their show at the "Viña del Mar Festival" they had to play the song five times. Precursors of Chilean rock, mainly influenced by British rock, this is an essential album to relive the days when rock was young, original, and fresh. From the original IRT masters.

LOS JAIVAS Todos Juntos 2LP
Todos Juntos was recorded in Chile in 1972-1973 and was presented for the first time to the public in Argentina in 1976 by Record Parnaso S.A. This double album contains all the material that Los Jaivas recorded for IRT during 1972-1973, plus a supplement of three previously unreleased recordings. Disc one is the re-release of the album Todos Juntos, which appeared in Argentina in 1976 under the Parnaso record label, with a different repertoire and order from the LP known as La Ventana, released in Chile at the end of 1972. Disc two completes the catalog of works recorded for IRT, to which are added three unreleased tracks from the same period: the music that Los Jaivas made for the documentary Descomedidos y Chascones, made by Carlos Flores Delpino and produced by the experimental film department of the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, the theme "Ta Hueca La Vaca Está Loca", an improvisation recovered from a television special produced by UCV television in Valparaíso, and a live recording of the theme "Marcha Al Interior Del Espíritu", taken at the Chilean-French institute of culture in Valparaíso. At that time, the painter René Olivares, who is already part of the Jaivas family settled in Buenos Aires, creates a new cover design for the 1976 edition, which is delivered here to the public in this remastered version, restored and enriched with valuable archival documents. COLLIER, GRAHAM Down Another Road @ Stockholm Jazz Days '69 CD
"Previously unreleased recording of bassist/composer Graham Collier's seminal British jazz album Down Another Road recorded live in 1969 at Stockholm's Jazz Day festival, his all-star sextet includes jazz heavyweights Harry Beckett, Stan Sulzmann, Karl Jenkins and John Marshall. Since its release in 1969 on Fontana, Down Another Road has become a cornerstone of British jazz, with the LP now a much sought-after rarity that regularly exchanges hands for over £200. It's considered the revered composer Collier's greatest album by many of its fans, thanks to its highly melodic, almost pop-like themes and irresistible '60s groove, spurred on by the on-point drumming of Soft Machine/Nucleus drummer John Marshall. To make 'Down Another Road @ Stockholm Jazz Days '69' even more special, the abstract track 'Danish Blue' has been replaced by the similarly epic free jazz composition 'Burblings for Bob', which is released here for the first time. All the other tracks that everyone loves are present and correct -- 'Lullaby for a Lonely Child', 'Aberdeen Angus', 'Molewrench' etc. but with a rawer live feel to them, longer arrangements and more soloing -- with the band in scintillating form. Remastered from the original tapes by Caspar Sutton-Jones @ Gearbox Records. Sleeve notes by Graham Collier biographer Duncan Heining."

JODI Pops De Vanguardia LP
Limited 2023 restock; LP version. Includes download code. Out-Sider present the first reissue of Jodi's Pops De Vanguardia, originally released in 1971 as a private pressing. Pops De Vanguardia contains tracks mostly written and recorded in 1969 (with some dating back to 1966) by brothers Joern and Dirk Wenger at their homemade "Jodi Experimental Studio" in Paraguay. Joern and Dirk, born in Paraguay but of German origin, started playing in beat/psychedelic band The Rabbits, who released a very rare EP in 1969. After the group split, Joern and Dirk traveled to Germany where they studied arts and received musical lessons from none other than Stockhausen. The two brothers built their own homemade studio and spent many hours recording songs and experimenting, creating their own sound effects (echo, reverb, etc). They called their music "spontaneous pop". Pops De Vanguardia was recorded at their own rudimentary studio with two tape recorders. Joern played guitar, organ and was the lead vocalist, while Dirk played drums and percussion. From ultra-catchy garage-pop to killer instrumental Farfisa numbers and proto-psychedelic sounds, Pops De Vanguardia is often considered the best lo-fi garage album to come from South America. Jodi could be seen as precursors of the indie-pop and lo-fi garage which would appear some decades later. An ultra-rare and obscure album from Paraguay - ahead of its time, raw and homemade sixties garage, jangly pop and basement psych sounds. Comes with insert with detailed liner notes in English/Spanish and rare photos. CD version includes five bonus tracks (dating from 1969-1970), including three fantastic previously unreleased tracks, one track from a rare private EP and the beat-fuzz-psych track "Buscándote" from The Rabbits 1969 EP, Lo Más Nuevo.

ROACH, STEVE Rest Of Life 2CD
"Rest Of Life is Echoes Radio's March 2023 CD of the Month. Echoes is a daily two-hour music show distributed by PRX and broadcast on 120 radio stations from Maine to Hawaii (and Alaska!). Emerging from a place of deep peace, expansiveness and renewal, Rest Of Life is Steve Roach's new 130-minute opus to quietude. With a graceful, nurturing quality expressed in five different reflective moods, the first 70 minutes (disc one) is impressionistic, emotion-infused electronic soundscapes. As Steve reflects, 'I consciously tuned into the soul tone of Structures from Silence and Quiet Music. Not in a nostalgic sense but exploring and expressing where this feeling lives in me now in the depth of myself at this point in time. As stated in the Quiet Music release notes years ago, the heart of this deep listening occurs not only within the experience of the music itself but also within the place that you are after the music fades and you return to the silence, this rest of life.' Disc two, The Knowing Place, embraces a vast majestic textural landscape that plays with the unexpected harmony of chance and expanding time. The single, extended composition evolves over 60 minutes: gently ecstatic mystical spaces emerge and finally surrender to a deeper embrace of living, breathing, stately thematic chordal passages and melodic interweaves that include processed viola performed by Linda Kohanov. The spacious symphonic arc and emotional resonance of the track culminates in a restorative journey, fully integrated and renewed. 'The title Rest Of Life,' Steve reveals, 'is drawn from my relationship to time itself. The priceless value of time and how we engage, rest, immerse, play with, step out of, create and love within our precious time on this planet. Every day I feel the Rest Of Life revealing itself in subtle yet dramatic ways.' Two-CD in six-panel digipak."

A collection of improvisational electronic mantras, premiered earlier this year on NTS, where Parisian artist Shelter explores odd meters, Indian-inspired drum cycles and expansive drone harmonics. TASADAY Echi Senza Fine LP
From a research work started in full lockdown three years ago, finally sees the light (or darkness) Echi Senza Fine, a remastered collection of sound material by Tasaday. Inspired by the controversial media story in 1971 of the discovery of a tribe in the Philippines that apparently had technology that had stood still in the Stone Age, the project officially borrows the name Tasaday in 1984 from the evolution of Nulla Perreale, in turn union of Die Form (musical part) and Orgasm Denied (performative part). To put it in the words of Marcello Ambrosini, the Tasadays find in Die Form the controlled destruction of the form after its careful design and construction, while in Nulla Iperreale the spontaneity free from any possible superstructure. They declare themselves new primitives, not in the perspective of a nostalgic return to a pre-industrial or prehistoric external world, but in the exception of an inner experience in stark contrast to the leviathan of the single utilitarian thought that has dominated the West for centuries. Their production-action does not allow itself to be tempted by the repetitiveness used by many industrial groups of those years, thus resulting seminal in the evolution of the scene. Their impulse to go further and not remain caged in the format of the new wave is witnessed by their particular sound vocabulary that sees, along with the use of conventional instruments, the use of DIY tools such as Chopper Vox and highly sui generis tools, like the Camolofono, cariole loaded with sheets, stones, tubes, chains, and "garbage" of various shapes and sizes. A discography dotted with primordial electronic experiments that reaches the new millennium through several vinyl records and an endless number of cassettes. From this undefined and mysterious number of tapes that is born Echi Senza Fine: 14 tracks remastered, collected by Asymmetrical, who also edited the release insert, a collage of visual and textual material from their fanzines. Transparent vinyl; insert; edition of 300.

DRAKE, BOB Legendary Lore of the Holy Wells Of England CD
"Bob Drake takes a professional detour to explore an intriguing byway with this atmospheric, uncharacteristic, stripped down, highly intriguing (and I think highly successful) experiment in minimal exposition. There are thirteen chapters -- for voices, organ, piano and cathedral -- on texts drawn directly from the 1893 edition of The legendary lore of the holy wells of England: including rivers, lakes, fountains and springs, by the English antiquary and inventor of the folding umpire's chair, Robert Charles Hope. Hallucinatory, educational, intriguing, mysterious and almost certainly efficacious to the elevation of the spirit -- not to mention some serious compositional heft. This is a unique musical object and whomsoever likes to take the road less traveled, this was meant for you. Written, performed, and recorded by Bob Drake, between May 2021 and June 2022. Recorded June and July 2022 at La Borde Basse, Caudeval France. Instruments: Hammond model BC organ (c.1940), Challen upright piano. Background ambience recorded in Saint Maurice Cathedral, Mirepoix. KYE, DAN Small Moments 2LP
2023 repress. Dan Kye is the mysteriously evoked moniker from multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocal sensation Jordan Rakei. The New Zealand-born artist -- who now resides in London -- presents his first long-player from Dan Kye, Small Moments, on Bradley Zero's Rhythm Section INTL. An ode to the dancefloor, the musical project was born out of Jordan's lockdown experience, created from the comfort of his own home. Recorded with just a laptop, extra live instruments and guest musicians, Small Moments seamlessly transcends across electronica, jazz and funk, with each genre being effortlessly fused with Jordan's melancholy vocals. Allowing himself to push the boundaries, Jordan's Dan Kye moniker draws on the energetic and uplifting elements of house and techno and perfectly mixes it with the sultry vocals and emotion that come with the live elements from Jordan Rakei. The record offers listeners a journey through more floor-heavy tracks such as "Mogeri" and "Raro" to more groove infused offerings such as "Rainbow Road", whilst tracks, like "Sober", take on a more lyrical and anthemic feel. After meeting Bradley Zero online whilst living in Australia, Jordan eventually moved to London in 2014. The same day he landed, he went straight to a Rhythm Section party to meet Bradley, and it was here that he first got a taste for house music. He enjoyed Rhythm Section INTL's ability to draw on both live and electronic talent; and thus, after Bradley asked him for some productions for the parties, the idea for Dan Kye was born. Small Moments is a musical masterpiece that can be enjoyed as much on the dancefloor as it can in the comfort of your own home and is a perfect step into Jordan's landscape and idealism of dance orientated music.

"The Art Ensemble Of Chicago, expanding to a chamber orchestra, marks its sixth decade as a vital force on the world music stage with an ear-opening live recording on two LPs. Recorded in France in 2020 at the Son D'Hiver Festival, this recording celebrates the legendary group's historic ties to Paris, where it was formed in 1968. When trumpet great Lester Bowie died in 1999, followers of the Art Ensemble of Chicago couldn't help but wonder whether the legendary quintet, which owed so much to his special and outlandish gifts, would -- or should -- go on. That it did, in his memory, with no loss of spirit. But the subsequent passing of two other founding members Malachi Favors Maghostut in 2004 and Joseph Jarman in 2019, made it even more difficult to envision a future for the band. Leave it to the AEC's proud surviving members, saxophonist/composer Roscoe Mitchell and drummer/percussionist Famoudou Don Moye to keep its flame glowing. In typical bold fashion, they not only extended the life of this beloved band, they redefined it in glorious and unexpected ways. With the addition of brilliant young players including poet and spoken word artist Moor Mother, cellist Tomeka Reid and violinist Jean Cook, and esteemed elders including trumpeter Hugh Ragin, flutist Nicole Mitchell, and bassist Jaribu Shahid, AEC became a full-fledged chamber orchestra. 'Come rejoice in a higher place!' urges the magnetic Moor Mother. In both honoring the band's illustrious history and soaring to new creative heights as a 17-member aggregation, Mitchell and Moye and company do just that. Would AEC have become the creative force it is had it not gotten the opportunity to find itself in Paris all those years ago? Will AEC return to celebrate their seventh? 'We can't control the clock, everything takes place in its own time,' says Mitchell. Don't be surprised if the time continues to be right for the AEC for years to come."

SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER Neuclidea 12"
Space Dimension Controller's first release in 2023 is also his first outing to Running Back. Needless to say, it pushes all the right buttons. Warm and playful, but forcing and with fresh jive, "Neuclidea" and its siblings revolve around classic SDC values. Nevertheless, the Irish melodist is also moving on to new pastures. Hardware sequencing, vintage digital synthesizers via analog processing spawn a sound that pirouettes as much around the lost cyber-hippie poetry of Border Community as it's the effigy of fast Balearic euphoria -- if Ibiza would have been a party scene in Gattaca. Completing this treasure chest is a remix by Hodge for the pragmatic minded out there. Using some heavy drums of the west, his version of "Neuclidea" extracts the trance-like elements of the original and turns it into a floor-polishing brush. To sum up: music for heartbroken and lovesick victims alike.

BOSWELL, SIMON Deliria (Stage Fright) LP
"Finally on vinyl. Stage Fright (Italian: Deliria) is a cult 1987 Italian slasher film directed by Michael Soavi. The soundtrack is composed by Simon Boswell (Santa Sangre/Hardware/Demons 2). The soundtrack is a classical roots rub shoulders with the distinctive 'thrashy' sound of '70s English punk music, dreamy synth landscapes and the programmed rhythms of the indie dance music that he produced so much of in the '80s. Altogether, this enabled him to compose a score that was very contemporary, hypnotic, scary and, when needed, both beautiful and aggressive. Limited colored vinyl."

WAVECRAFT x SATURATE! Halftone LP
The future of heavy bass music has always found its portal via Saturate!, and now alongside Wavecraft, the label have another glimpse into infinity in the form of Halftone. From the onset of this compilation, you can feel the ominous bass ballast even before it first hits you. Swelling up like a tsunami to engulf your brain with grinding terror. The heaviness is abundant across these tracks, with contributions from synth destroyers like Suahn, Kryptt, and Low Poly melting your speakers and eardrums alike. Dark atmospherics rule the day here, which effectively sets the tone for the rabid roughness on display when the bass morphology takes hold of each track so mercilessly. Slow knuckle draggers and upbeat head bangers both hold dominion in this realm, leaving no sonic stone unturned. Always at the crest of the future music wave, Halftone shows you just how deep this rabbit hole can get. Also features Chark, Phydra & Tobacco Rat, Flix, Moniker, Styl & Niceotope, and Seda.

BABILBON 10 Beats and Riddims Basque Label LP
Babilbon is a collective formed by musicians with experience in other Bilbao bands: Josu Santamaria (Akatz), Aresan (hip-hop producer), Xixo Yantani (Cherry Boppers), DJ Ibai, and Joseba Negro (Priscilla Funk, Potato) with the idea of bringing a modern twist to the old Jamaican rhythms, fusing them with dancehall and hip-hop rhythms, as well as other styles of black music, without any pretension of sounding purist. For the purpose, the band gives the microphone to ten vocalists from Bilbo and "surroundings" to the delight of locals and strangers. The selection is of bells and whistles, but behind the rhythmic recitation of rhymes, puns, breaks, and Jamaican riddims, there is a solid and versatile band that, adapting to the guests, builds a homogeneous sound around the Babylonian assortment of languages, dialects, accents, textures, styles, personalities, moods, cultures, and subcultures. "Parazoa Dantzatzen" by Mad Muasel was the album's advance single and already gave clues as to where they headed. The lady pioneer of dancehall in Spain, riding on reggae and dancehall rhythms making rhymes on what she feels and dancing the problems and worries away with style. Suprah, from the neighborhood of Repealed, opens the album with "Mano vs. Mente" (Mind vs. Hand) and the struggles between brain and hands-action. From the neighborhood of Irala, the bilingual and viperine rapper Xatiro adapts himself perfectly to the Jamaican flavors in "Turista Jauna" (Mr. Tourist). The charismatic singer of the legendary Akatz, in his incarnation as Dr. Bita Banton, over a huge composition by the Basque improviser of verses Bilintx, approaches toasting with the help of reggae breaks in "Gure Alegriya" (Our Joy). With more than a decade of career joining rap and reggae, Gatom, explains the Basque dialect of Bermeo it is necessary to give and receive love in "Maitasune Jaso Ta Emon" (Give and Take Love). Ras Reguilón & Daka, other veterans in linking reggae and word, from Sopela propose an infectious "Renace Desde Dentro" (Reborn from Inside) that invites to immediate dance and positive thoughts. Fundación de Raperos Atípicos de Cádiz (F.R.A.) unite the south and north in "Vamosh Pa'l Norte" (Let's Go to the North), recalling their summer tours in the Basque Country in a hilarious apotheosis in a spoken "Andalusian similar to Basque". And from neighboring Cantabria, two tremendous artists, Inés Pardo, a very fine vocalist who is a regular at Lone Ark Studios, singing "My Favourite Song" a beautiful summer rocksteady and Priteo, a respected rapper with a long career, doing a brutal freestyle, walking rough, "Caminando Estilo Kinki" (Walking Kinki Style).

Signed by Polydor, they released three singles produced by James Last, including the outstanding hit 'Moscow'. The band went on tour with The Bee Gees, The Nice, and Deep Purple. Following a line-up change and internal frictions, the band finally folded in 1970, but the masterminds Achim Reichel and Frank Dostal tried to keep the flame burning as Wonderland Band and a new album called Wonderland Band No. 1. MUSLIMGAUZE Turn On Arabic American Radio 2LP
The relationship between Bryn Jones's music as Muslimgauze and the track/album titles he would provide (sometimes right on the tapes he would send in for release, but often determined later, sometimes even giving two different pieces months apart the same title, accidentally or not) has always been a little mysterious. Jones himself can no longer be asked, and as you continue to investigate the swathes of material he provided, you hit sources like the DAT or DATs that make up the contents of the new double-LP Turn On Arab American Radio. Nine tracks, the first LP/four tracks titled "Turn On Arab American Radio," and the other LP/five tracks labeled only "Arab American Radio." None of them sound particularly radio-esque, although given the simultaneous vastness and ornate focus of Jones's Muslimgauze work that gap between name and sound is far from atypical. Instead, here the de rigeur percussion loops that underpin this particular set of tracks, while occasionally clipping into the fierce distortion that Jones either loved to use or couldn't get away from, steer away from both the more consistent application of that distortion as well as the Middle Eastern and Asian influences he often used. It'd be a stretch to call anything here basic boom-bap production but they come closer to it than a lot of Muslimgauze production. And while those loops are, as always prominent, they're not actually the focus; settling into steady vamps as structures for Jones to pursue an extended and often more gentle exploration of the other sample sources he has here. There are stringed instruments, the sound of water, but most prominently or strikingly the human voice. Nothing is in English but tone and the occasional word ("familia", "passport") still provide guides. There are ululations, snatches of melody; but most often speech, dialogue, often tense and harried sounding. Is this what Jones was thinking of or referring to with his Arab American Radio? As with so many other questions about Muslimgauze, we'll never know the answer to that one. (Most pertinently in this case we might wonder who appears here, and what the context of these recordings is. But Jones never provided that with his submissions.) Here, even though those inexorable loops pound on, indefatigable, that emphasis on some of the people Jones chooses lends a measured gentleness to much of Turn On Arab American Radio, at least within the context of his body of work.

BRAND, JENS Ratchets/Motors LP
"Jens Brand has created a large number of installations, musical performances, and interactive media works. He uses the concepts of parallel activities rather than ideas of fusion. The pieces presented on this recording focus on sonic events related to electronic music (such as intense volumes and dynamics, white noise, square or sine waves) but stay entirely acoustic. On a live performance of the ratchets, the sounds are generated with the idea of a physical, sculptural, yet invisible presence. It might happen that the body of a person moving around in the audience has more impact on the sound then the variations produced by instruments themselves. 'I was always interested in the idea of making acoustic music that has the quality of electronic music,' muses Dortmund based musician and visual artist Jens Brand. 'Electronic music is fantastic, but I don't like speakers very much.' Take his performance entitled 'Motors And Styrofoam'. Pieces of glistening white Styrofoam fitted with small motors hang from the ceiling above the audience's heads, squatting balefully in mid-air like lopsided clouds. Acting as a resonator, the Styrofoam amplifies the whirr of the motors, which builds up into a loud, persistent drone overlaid with overtones. Equally uncompromising is 'The Ratchets', which deploys a number of football rattles, those small wooden devices originally used by hunters. The ratchets are set in motion by motors whose speed and direction are controlled by a computer: they click busily away, producing a dense, enveloping sound reminiscent of heavy rainfall. In performance, the sound of the ratchets is spellbinding in its rawness and intensity, attaining impressive volumes as it interacts with the features of the space." --Rahma Khazam, The Wire Recorded and edited by Radboud Mens at Galerie Weisser Elefant, 2022. 180 gram vinyl, 300 copies.

HASTINGS OF MALAWI Choreological Exchanges LP
Recorded at the height of the global pandemic, and at a time when remote communication was becoming increasingly prevalent, Choreological Exchanges is part of Hastings Of Malawi's continuing investigations into the medium of communication itself. Prior to telephony becoming digital, all phone calls were routed through mechanical telephone exchanges, and the majority of the sounds on side one are the sounds of these exchanges and some of the voices of the engineers who worked with them. Hastings Of Malawi make strange records and this one is no exception although it has a more linear narrative structure in opposition to what critics have described as their Dadaist approach. Their records certainly resist genre classification and do not really fall into the category of music. Hastings Of Malawi have themselves described previous records as films without light, radio plays and as poems. This one is a dance -- a dance that takes place within the chain, or pipe, that is brain -- mouth -- telephone -- telephone exchange -- telephone -- ear -- brain."It is a dance record but not in the way that these are usually understood. An invitation to dance appears twelve minutes in on the first side. It is a dance within the wires, movement around noise used as a sculptural material rather than unwanted signals and a joyful exploration of sonic materiality. The second side begins with the voice of a telephone engineer, who states that in the top floor switch room of the exchange is the only vestige of human control. Is this top floor switch room the human brain? The sounds on this side, float between the mechanical telephone exchange and the body where the messages are created and interpreted -- it is an exploration of the relationship between thought and the material devices in which telephone sound is propagated and transformed. Side two ends with a long list of randomly generated words created by digital voice synthesis." --Hastings of Malawi

PUCE MOMENT Epic Ellipses LP
Puce Moment is part of the French contemporary music scene. Their music is climatic, often inhabited by a strong emotional power. A procession of harmonic structures organized in a ritual way, sometimes close to trance. It can be written or improvised, vocal or instrumental. The electronic and electroacoustic arrangements summon new spaces and abstract landscapes, which can go from the purest sound to the rawest distortions. Vast, slower, deeper -- distant echoes of half-faded things -- and when you are lost, voices appear. Voices whose only reference would be the timeless SeeFeel. Nicolas Devos and Pénélope Michel are visual and sound artists, one trained at the Beaux-Arts and the Fresnoy studio national des arts contemporains and the other a classically trained cellist, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. They created Puce Moment, envisaged as a sound research laboratory open to experimentation, to multi-disciplinary encounters and to decompartmentalization. Their work is akin to a fictional ethnology expressed through protean projects and mutant visual, sound and musical creations. Epic Ellipses is their fourth album. They have composed the original soundtracks of more than a dozen dance performance, fiction or documentary films, virtual reality in variable formats (Christian Rizzo, Mylène Benoit, Vania Vaneau, Benjamin Nuel, Laurent Pernot, Carolina Gonçalves). Or in the form of film-concerts including David Lynch's cult film Eraserhead with which they have toured intensively since 2012 in France and Europe, and since 2019 Koyaanisqatsi, the cult experimental documentary by Godfrey Reggio.

SOTE Majestic Noise Made in Beautiful Rotten Iran LP
Green vinyl. It's an all-electronic affair, harmonically maximalist, predominantly symphonic-synthetic, requiring active listening. Some pieces function as challengers of musical structural habits, provoking the short attention span culture, others present a problem-solution scenario, collectively via a neoteric noise aesthetic and detailed melodic weaving. Ultimately, the objective was to engineer an assortment of works full of sound, euphonic, and vivid in nature. The making of this album was intentionally a very personal process, going into self-therapy territory at times interpreting the composer's contemplating mind dealing with tolerance, destruction, compassion, misery, grace and tyranny in an auditory manner. Some pieces function as challengers of musical structural habits, provoking the short attention span culture, others present a problem-solution scenario, collectively via a neoteric noise aesthetic and detailed melodic weaving. Ultimately, the objective was to engineer an assortment of works, awash with euphonic sound vivid in its essence, with a deep focus on various synthesis techniques within a compositional framework. Dedicated to Peter Rehberg aka Pita.Ata "Sote" Ebtekar composes music with a deeply-held conviction that rules and formulas should be deconstructed and rethought. He alters musical modal codes from their original tonality and rhythmic tradition to achieve vivid, synthetic soundscapes. Over the last three decades, his work has been published by labels such as Warp, Sub Rosa, Opal Tapes, Diagonal, Mute, and Morphine, among others. In 2018, he founded a new label called "Zabte Sote", which focuses on releases by Iranian experimental electronic composers from around the globe. Known for creating compositions that range from the delicate to the abrasive, using sounds both of acoustical and electronic origins, Ebtekar sees music as the expression of cultural habits in sound and anti-sound (silence). Seeking to expand such traditions he creates music that, while rooted in many cultures at once, belongs to none in particular. Sote's work deals with various blueprints, in particular his solo all synthetic music, his electroacoustic audio/visual group project, and his multi-channel sound installations. Sote is on the jury panel of The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, and has created commissioned work for and performed at a.o. Berghain and CTM Festival (Berlin), Unsound Festival (Krakow), Cafe Oto (London), Jazzhouse (Copenhagen), TodaysArt Festival (The Hague), Bozar (Brussels), Ultima Festival (Oslo), Donaufestival (Krems), Donaueschinger Musiktage, Mira (Barcelona), Terraforma (Milan), and many more.

LILLY JOEL PLAYS THE ORGAN Sibyl Of The Rhine CD
Lynn Cassiers and Jozef Dumoulin have been making music together since over 20 years. But it's a vast and fascinating list of unrelated events that brought them to make this recording, featuring the music of 12th century sage and mystic Hildegard von Bingen in a setup of voice with electronics accompanied by pipe organ. Yet it feels like an unexpected and vibrant evidence -- coming home somewhere else. The music of Hildegard von Bingen is essentially monodic, made to be performed by a voice and maybe one fixed pedal note played by an instrument. A big part of the work has been to find the right approach and tone for this setup. To see how these melodies resonate today and what they call for, inventing spaces where they can unfold simply. Improvisation played a key role in this process; listening, feeling, dreaming. A tune of Robert Schumann and Tom Jobim have been added to enhance and stabilize the colors that presented themselves. The result -- Sibyl Of The Rhine -- is an object of a mesmerizing beauty, made to be heard over and over. But it's also a clear blueprint and a powerful source for further live reenactments. Lynn Cassiers and Jozef Dumoulin both established themselves in the realm of contemporary jazz and improvised music. Besides other collaborations they play as a duo called Lilly Joel, mixing free improvisation with electronics. Lilly Joel Plays The Organ is a special edition of the duo with Jozef Dumoulin replacing his usual electronic setup by the ancient pipe organ, an instrument he played extensively as a teenager. Personnel: Lynn Cassiers - voice and electronics; Jozef Dumoulin - pipe organ.

LIEBFRIED, KALAS Amp Wall Monument Confrontation 2LP
Debut LP from upcoming artist Kalas Liebfried. Amp Wall Monument Confrontation critically engages with the imperialist history of the Otto von Bismarck Monument at the Deutsches Museum in Munich by re-contextualizing it through sound and performance. For one day in June 2021, a sculpture made of 21 guitar amplifiers was installed in front of the monument, with seven electric guitars connected to it. Seven guitarists performed a four-hour drone composition. Sides A and B comprise arrangements of the sound material recorded on site, taking up the structure of the score. Sides C and D feature interpretations of the same material by Lamin Fofana, Sarah Badr aka FRKTL, Elsa M'bala, Cedrik Fermont, and Jay Glass Dubs. The double LP is accompanied by a booklet with the original score and an essay by the Australian art historian Damian Lentini (curator, Haus der Kunst, Munich), which proposes further perspectives to a critical engagement with German colonial history and current polyphonic postcolonial discourses.

SPACE GHOST Dance Planet LP
2023 repress. Sudi Wachspress returns to Tartelet Records with Dance Planet, a third LP of emotionally-charged house music to welcomes you back to the dancefloor. The spirit of true house runs deep in the sound of Space Ghost. Oakland native Sudi Wachspress is intuitively plugged into the romantic, mystical energy of 4/4 club music as a unifying force of empowerment and liberation, carrying the torch from vital forebears like Larry Heard, Alton Miller, and Blaze. His new album, Dance Planet, carries a greater responsibility to spread spiritual affirmations. As the global dancefloor community emerges from a mentally-taxing recess and confronts their social self like it's the first day of school, Space Ghost's message couldn't be more supportive. "Don't be afraid to be yourself, don't be afraid to let go," he intones on "Be Yourself". More than just a beat and a hook, his music is pointedly created to heal and energize. "I'm a big fan of old-school house vocals that have a positive message," says Space Ghost, "tracks that can perhaps enhance your mood or strengthen your confidence in yourself." Wachspress has always represented a beacon of musical uplift, both on his previous Endless Light (TART 008LP, 2018LP) and Aquarium Nightclub (TARTALB 011LP, 2019) LPs for Tartelet and on his swathes of self-released music and 2020's Free 2 B on Apron. BIRCH, GINA I Play My Bass Loud CD
"London-based Gina Birch began her storied career in music in 1977 when she formed the feminist punk band The Raincoats with fellow Hornsey School of Art student, Ana da Silva. Gina and Ana witnessed an early performance by The Slits and although neither of them knew how to play any instruments, they knew they had to start a band. Just months after they picked up their instruments, they were on stage doing their thing around London and the UK in the fledgling and groundbreaking punk rock scene. The Raincoats quickly developed a large and loyal group of fans and supporters, among them Red Krayola, Swell Maps and Geoff Travis and his new record label, Rough Trade. The Raincoats went on to record three albums for Rough Trade that are frequently found on lists of the most important records of the punk rock era and are still name checked as influences by artists today. Originally, The Raincoats broke up in 1984 but were talked into reforming in 1994 when Kurt Cobain asked them to go on tour in support of Nirvana (sadly, that never happened). With a renewed interest in the band led by Kurt and Kim Gordon, The Raincoats records were reissued with liner notes by Kurt and Kim themselves. Worldwide tours and a brand-new fourth album on DGC resulted in 1996. The Raincoats still perform today for special events and have started their own record label, We Three Records, to handle their back catalog. Gina is a respected painter, a celebrated filmmaker and video director (directing videos for The Libertines and New Order to name a few) and is a mother of two wonderful daughters. FUNCTION Awakening From The Illusory Self 12"
2023 repress. Dave Sumner returns with a new Function record, entitled Awakening From The Illusory Self. Released as a 12" EP on Tresor Records, it follows on from Existenz (TRESOR 315CD/LP), his last full-length album released in November 2019. Packed in a beautiful sleeve printed with three special neon colors, the EP kicks off with the fast techno of "Misinterpretations Of Reality", it features a minimal acid-infected crescendo and throbbing pulse. As ever with Function, this idiosyncratic rhythmic work finds a place out on a limb from contemporaries, shapeshifting impulses that infer and guide this raw drum sound. The second track "An Optical Illusion Of Consciousness", Function moves towards a different direction, bringing more elements to the mix. It recalls the Dutch '90s techno sound with its melodic blurred synth leanings stretching and morphing across saturated, playful drums and hefty low-end movement. Its bind is perfectly weighted, a phenomenal track that nurtures its inner dancefloor soul as melodies fade away and tighter patterns take precedence. "Spiritually Unconscious" points to all the trademarks of Function's celebrated sound. A smooth 909 groove underpins bubbling atmospheres and hallucinatory effects, and a nod to the Motor City vision with its fleeting synth strings. At the core is potent, repetitive simplicity, its beat playing with weight and dynamics but never at risk of being lost. Closing track "Compulsive Thinking: Repetitive and Pointless" kicks a juddering swagger, finding public addressed system emissions drenched in reverb resonating above bleak analogic synth drones. It haunts and creeps towards a thunderous apex, finding its depth in sparse drum movements. An enduring fixture in the techno and electronic music landscape, Sumner continues to step through new terrains, reinforcing his spike and vision. Awakening From The Illusory Self finds him as ever delivering the goods in elating moments of pure club heft. Includes download code.

TIGA There Is No Distance Between Us 12"
Turbo Recordings present a 12" vinyl release of Tiga's trance pilgrimage to the center of your personal space, There Is No Distance Between Us. Co-produced by Tiga and on-again/off-again musical life partner Jesper Dahlback, the track was originally released digitally as a B-side to the Tiga mega-hit "Easy" and is now available in its glorious physical manifestation with an insane after-hours techno remix from Paris producer u.r. trax, perhaps the first Turbo artist with a Master's Degree in something other than Comparative Tiga Studies. "Yeah, I'm back up in your area," says Tiga from atop the rock-climbing wall inside his virtual panic room. "Something just didn't sit right with me about this track not existing on the material plane. Here I am singing about human connection and not giving you something you can hold in your filthy hands? Anyone who knows me knows I hate hypocrisy, so I had to make things right, vinyl-style. If I could make the world's problems go away by pressing records, I would. And I can, so I will. This is only the beginning."

GUTIERREZ Y LOS CAPORALES DEL MAGDALENA, ALFREDO Asi es... Con salsa! LP
Reissue, first reissue on vinyl. ¡Así es... Con salsa!, by Colombia's Alfredo Gutiérrez y Los Caporales del Magdalena, is a legendary collector's album, yet still undeservedly obscure. It's an experimental mash-up of seemingly disparate genres from different origins that on paper would seem to be at cross purposes. Yet at the same time the release is a masterpiece of raw pan-Latin fusion from the dawn of Colombian salsa that holds its own as a bonafide heavy duty pioneering record of the genre. Probably the most shocking musical element is Alfredo Gutiérrez's fiery accordion, an unexpected instrument in the idiom of salsa, as it's usually associated with the tropical music of Gutiérrez's Caribbean home region of Sucre. Gutiérrez has always been a provocateur which has earned him the richly deserved sobriquet, "El Rebelde Del Acordeón" (the rebel of the accordion). Gutiérrez started Los Caporales in 1968 as a rival to Discos Fuentes supergroup Los Corraleros de Majagual, and the band had made three popular albums prior to ¡Así es... Con salsa!, yet most of the repertoire on those records consisted of typical Colombian tropical and coastal rhythms and genres, none were devoted to salsa. From the start, Gutiérrez lays down a salsa manifesto when the album kicks off with "Guadelupe no va", a four-minute workout with pile-driving force that demonstrates the uncompromising power of this 14-piece orchestra. Gutiérrez was given the green light by Codiscos A&R head Humberto Moreno to dedicate an album to New York style salsa, giving more prominence to the voice and compositions of Lucho Pérez, a proven expert in Cuban genres and one of many vocalists in the band. Several tunes on the record are remakes of older compositions by Lucho Pérez from his early tenure with Discos Fuentes group La Sonora Dinamita, the new versions are much more raw and menacing, as if put through a Bronx filter. The band was made up of Codiscos' regular stable of ace studio musicians from Medellín for the recording date. The album was both a success and also not abnormal in its mixing of salsa and costeño Colombian sounds, as there were several other similar hybrid records by other artists at the time. Both the desperation of the lyrics (about not being able to afford anything) and Lucho Pérez's forceful delivery leave an indelible impression of street-wise authenticity, which is backed up by the fact that both band members grew up poor. Includes three tracks from other Caporales albums. Includes insert with liner notes.

PEREZ Y SUS KENYAS, RAY Ra! Rai! LP
Ra! Rai!, released in 1969, was the fourth and final album of Venezuelan piano player, composer, arranger, and vocalist Ray "Rai" Pérez's original configuration of Los Kenya. The oddly titled record is undeservedly obscure except to the most avid collectors and historians of Venezuelan salsa. It marks the end of the second period where the upstart pianist was making his mark on the scene and restlessly searching for a formula that would lead to both creative and commercial success. The late 1960s was a very busy time when Pérez was juggling several different studio bands: Los Dementes, Los Calvos, and Los Kenya. The singer Dimas Pedroza, who had left rival orchestra Federico Y Su Combo Latino to join Ray Pérez in early 1969, did not stay long with Los Kenya, due to some personal differences with the band leader. With a co-lead singer missing to support Carlín Rodríguez in Los Kenya, the band's new conga player, Julián Orta, recommended a young, non-professional friend of his, 22-year-old Edmundo Vega Francia. Pérez treats you to a rather eclectic and slightly odd mix of genres, influences, and arrangements, making this one of his more eccentric and interesting efforts. 1960s California "sunshine pop" rock, calypso, soul and jazz are all added to the pot of salsa cooked up by "El Loco Ray" and his band on Ra! Rai! Throughout the record the dual trumpet section keeps things bright and jumpy, in the style of La Sonora Matancera and Ricardo Ray. Pérez utilized this approach to differentiate from the heavier trombone sound of Los Dementes. Always searching for different sounds on the keyboard, Pérez brings in classical and blues-inflected piano licks as well as traditional Cuban guajeos, much like his two major influences on the instrument, Eddie Palmieri and Ricardo Ray. Luckily for salsa fanatics, the record contains some fabulous dancefloor bangers in that genre. In addition, the highly syncopated track "Mi Sonsito" brings in the Cuban son montuno, dedicated to the salseros of Francia's barrio and performed in a rapid tempo. Overall, from the pop numbers to the salsa tunes, the sound is similar to that of the Colombia-based Venezuelan expatriates Nelson Y Sus Estrellas. While it may not be one of his most well-known albums, Ra! Rai! deserves to be, not only for its strong salsa dura anthems but also for its brave, quirky eclecticism and youthful, rebellious spirit, all of which are reflections of Ray Pérez's unique genius. Restored and remastered from the original tapes. Fully licensed from the maestro himself, with its original Pyraphon artwork intact.

LAGOS Y SUS ORATES/LOS DESTELLOS, COCO Guajira Boogaloo/Guajira Sicodelica 7"
Coco Lagos would play the conga drums for artists who passed through Lima, accompanying Pérez Prado, Oréfiche, and Chano Scotty, among others. In the late '50s, he started working as a regular musician in the recently founded record company MAG, alongside musicians such as Ñiko Estrada, Mario Allison, Lucho Macedo... He would record two albums for MAG, always accompanied by the pianist Alfredo Linares, with whom he shared the credits for the musical arrangements. The outstanding "Guajira Boogaloo" is taken from Lagos's second album -- and was also released as a separate single -- and has become a much in-demand DJ favorite. On the flipside, Los Destellos deliver their killer "Guajira Sicodélica". Los Destellos truly defined the sound of Peruvian cumbia with the incorporation of diverse influences and the use of electric guitars.

SAKAMOTO, RYUICHI Thousand Knives Of Ryuichi Sakamoto LP
2023 repress; LP version. Wewantsounds present a reissue of Ryuichi Sakamoto's first solo album Thousand Knives Of, originally released in 1978 on the sought-after Better Days label. Save for a small-scale release in 1982, this is the first time the album is being released on vinyl outside of Japan. 1978 was a key year for Japanese music. Haruomi Hosono, one of the country's most innovative musicians had just formed Yellow Magic Orchestra pursuing the sonic experimentation he had started with his solo album Paraiso. The album, recorded between December '77 and January '78, featured both Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi. Hosono quickly invited both musicians to form YMO but before the group could release their first album, Sakamoto entered the Nippon Columbia studios in April 1978 with a plan. Sakamoto had become an in-demand session musician after studying composition at the Tokyo University of Art and had played on many key albums of the time, such as Taeko Ohnuki's Sunshower (1977) and Tatsuro Yamashita Spacy (1977). This led to an invitation by Hosono to feature on Paraiso. A penchant for avant-garde and improvisation had gotten Sakamoto interested in electronic music early on, and with Thousand Knives he decided to get Hideki Matsutake on board as he had mastered the art of synth programming following a stint with Electronic Music pioneer Isao Tomita. Thousand Knives took several months to record as Sakamoto would be busy during the day with his session work and would only record at night. Named after Belgian-born poet Henri Michaux's description of a mescaline experience, the album is a reflection on how synthesizer technology might come to change the face of music. The first side conceived as a long suite opens with the title track and a recitation of the Mao Zedong poem "Jinggang Mountain" filtered through a vocoder, before morphing into a mid-tempo synthpop instrumental. It is followed by "Island Of Woods", a ten-minute track buzzing with insect-like synth sounds. Side one ends with "Grasshoppers", a beautiful acoustic piano melody underlined by a subtle synthesizer soundscape. Side two opens with "Das Neue Japanische Elektronische Volkslied", acknowledging the influence of the German sound spearheaded by Kraftwerk. The track features a mid-tempo metronomic beat skillfully intertwined with a Japanese folk sounding melody. The album ends with two catchy up-tempo synthpop tunes in the form of "Plastic Bamboo" and "The End Of Asia", which both became staples of YMO's and Sakamoto's live shows. YMO's sound included various influences from its three members but there is no denying Thousand Knives paved the way for the group's Computer Music sound. Remastered from the original tapes by renowned producer and engineer Seigen Ono.

SAKAMOTO, RYUICHI Hidari Ude No Yume (Deluxe Double LP Version) 2LP
Limited restock, last copies of this dexluxe double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. Includes the album's full instrumental version. Wewantsounds present the reissue of Ryuichi Sakamoto's third solo album Hidari Ude No Yume (Left Handed Dream), originally released in 1981 on the Alfa label. Save for a small-scale Dutch vinyl release in 1981, it is the first time the album's original Japanese edition is released outside of Japan (the European release on Epic Records included significantly different tracks and mixes). Hidari Ude No Yume was recorded at the legendary Alfa Studio "A" in Tokyo during the Summer of 1981. it came after B-2 Unit in 1980 and his debut album Thousand Knives Of... in 1978 (WWSCD 024CD/WWSLP 024LP), the very year Sakamoto was invited by Haruomi Hosono to join Yellow Magic Orchestra alongside Yukihiro Takahashi. In 1981, Sakamoto decided to record an album rooted in pop, following the more experimental B-2 Unit and his landmark electro debut. Sakamoto invited British producer Robin Scott to co-produce. They entered the Alfa studio in July 1981 with his fellow YMO musicians Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, keyboard programmer extraordinaire Hideki Matsutake who'd been on Sakamoto's first two albums and became YMO's unofficial fourth member, violinist Kaoru Sato, saxophonist Satoshi Nakamura, and American guitarist Adrian Belew (David Bowie, The Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club). Together, they created a fascinating mix of pop, ambient and electronic music with elements of avant-garde and traditional Japanese music, the whole firmly rooted in a solid groove. From the funk of "Relâché" to the new wave feel of "Venezia" and the ambient minimalism of "Slat Dance," the album is remarkably consistent while displaying a wealth of global influences. The album was released in Japan in 1981 and Epic Records picked it up for Europe a year later but decided to release it in a significantly altered version. The sequencing was completely reshuffled and two tracks, "Saru No Ie" and "Living In The Dark" were completely dropped while three others, "Relâché", "Tell 'em To Me", "Venezia" were heavily remodeled with English lyrics and different names. Last but not least, a new English-sung track, "The Arrangement," was added, making the album nine tracks instead of ten for the Japanese edition. Newly remastered from the original tapes by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman. Comes with original artwork featuring cover shot by famous photographer Masayoshi Sukita. Four-page insert with new introduction by journalist Anton Spice.

KHORSHID, OMAR With Love LP
2023 restock. Wewantsounds present the first vinyl reissue Omar Khorshid's cult instrumental album from 1978 originally released in Lebanon. The album features Khorshid's trademark twangy electric guitar sound over Arabic melodies enhanced by fascinating fuzzed-up arrangements and early synthesizer sounds. Wewantsounds' series of Arabic music reissues are curated by Lebanese-born Arabic music expert Mario Choueiry from Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. The album has been newly remastered and comes with the original Voice of Lebanon LP artwork. One of the greatest guitar players of the Arab world accompanying such stars as Oum Kalthoum, Abdel Halim Hafez, and Farid El Atrache, Omar Khorshid was born in Cairo in 1945. After studying music from an early age, he joined the Egyptian pop group Les Petits Chats in 1966 and played with them for a couple of years. After seeing the group playing, Abdel Halim Hafez then recruited Khorshid for his band which led him to subsequently play for Egyptian diva Oum Khalthoum and a few other Egyptian pop stars. Following the political troubles faced by Egypt in the early '70s, Khorshid decided to move to Lebanon in 1973 and started recording under his own name for a few Beirut-based labels. In 1977, he was invited by Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat to perform at the White House for the celebration of the Camp David Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty. In 1978, Khorshid moved out again -- to Syria this time -- for a about a year before returning to his homeland of Egypt to concentrate on live performances and on his nascent film career. Unfortunately, Khorshid efforts were cut short and he didn't have time to fulfil his ambitions tragically dying in a motorbike crash in May 1981, aged just 36. With Love released by the Beirut-based Voice of Lebanon label in 1978 is a testament to Omar Khorshid's greatness and encapsulate the unique sound of his guitar playing over modern arrangements establishing him as one of Arabic music's true innovator. Featuring reworkings of such favorites as Mohamed Abdel Wahab's "Ahwak", Farid El-Atrache's "Hebbina Hebbina" (a Brian Eno favorite), and the Rahbani Brothers' "Rahbaniyat", the album is a fascinating example of modern Arabic music that aimed at fusing traditional influences with the more contemporary ones, and has become highly sought-after by lovers of this Middle Eastern sounds around the world.

EL SHARIYI, OMAR Oriental Music LP
2023 repress. Wewantsounds present the first vinyl reissue of Ammar El Sherei's superb instrumental album Oriental Music from 1976. Here, the iconic Egyptian musician and composer revisits six classic compositions by another Egyptian legend, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, in his own hypnotic way. Curated by Lebanese-born Arabic music expert Mario Choueiry from Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. The late musician and composer Ammar El Sherei was one of Egypt's musical giants. Born in Upper Egypt in 1948 into an upper middle class family (his paternal grandfather had been an MP during King Fouad's reign and his eldest brother became the Egyptian ambassador to Australia) El Sherei moved to Cairo with his family when he was five and attended a special school for the blind (he had lost his eyesight in his early childhood). A child prodigy with a unique gift for music, he got noticed by his teachers who recommended him to the Hadley School for the Blind in America so he could perfect his studies by correspondence. El Sherei quickly learned piano, oud, and composition with unparalleled ease. He began playing accordion in the Cairo bars and clubs and started making a name for himself on the Cairo scene. El Sherei got his first taste of success when he managed to place a song with famed Egyptian singer, Maha Sabry. Following, his ascension was meteoric and he went to become a very successful composer for films and TV series especially. A true innovator who didn't hesitate to bring some western influences to traditional Egyptian music and was one of the musicians responsible for ending the lengthy song trend of the '70s. He embraced modern instrumentations and was asked by Japanese keyboard maker Yamaha Corp. to help develop new electronic keyboards that could handle quarter tone. Early in his career El Sherei recorded albums for Soutelphan, including Oriental Music celebrating the music of another Egyptian legend, composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab, who had co-founded Soutelphan. Here he masterfully interprets six classics from the master including "Ana Wehabieby" (aka Ana Wa Habibi), "Ya Wabour Koly", and the classic "Ahwak" made famous by such talents as Abdel Halim Hafez or Fairuz. Using early electronic keyboards like the Steelphon S900 or the Farfisa as seen on the album cover, El Sherei creates beautifully hypnotic instrumentals that blend together traditional melodies with modern instrumentation, adding jazz and pop elements in the mix. Newly remastered. Comes in original artwork.
